Poem: Alouette – “Head on My Lap”

The Alouette, created by Jan Turner, consists of two or more stanzas of 6 lines each, with the following set rules:

Meter: 5, 5, 7, 5, 5, 7
Rhyme Scheme: a, a, b, c, c, b

The form name is a French word meaning ‘skylark’ or larks that fly high, the association to the lark’s song being appropriate for the musical quality of this form. The word ‘alouette’ can also mean a children’s song (usually sung in a group), and although this poetry form is not necessarily for children’s poetry (but can be applied that way), it is reminiscent of that style of short lines. Preference for the meter accent is on the third syllable of each line (please see examples below).

I worry for you,

My reasons see through,

No such opacity and —

You never look up,

Drinking coffee cup,

Living in your box of quick sand.

You won’t admit truth,

Reality isn’t proof,

What world do you inhabit?

Not ever seeing,

A blank lost being,

Following the white rabbit.

Life’s not Wonderland,

It’s not a game grande.

You need choose to be living,

Not a ghost fading.

A person jaded.

Wake-up, be aware, forgive.

We can’t live this life,

No passion or strife,

Dig-down in your belly, find —

Life’s fire hiding, soar —

Past limits, encore!

Joy, vibrance; be kind.

Love, you’re secluded;

Don’t live deluded.

You’re my everything, my fire.

Darkness you have found,

Devours you around.

Let us be flames who aspire.

Be not sad, life changes,

Alter our exchanges.

Talk, laugh; head placed on my lap,

Tell my your secrets.

All your woes, bleakness.

Let no thoughts keep your soul trapped.

Maydays: Poem – Tankas – “The Best Kind of Mad.” #Maydays #amwriting

——-

Thank you to K.L. Caley from new2writing for hosting #Maydays prompts. Today’s prompt is good madness.

——

I love that you have that —

Good madness, a bit of quirk.

Laughing and smiling,

I’d rather have you a bit crazed,

I worry when you’re lost, sad.

——

When you’re mad I know you’re —

Alive; your heart beating genius.

Found in Wonderland,

Where my favourite Alice went,

Your my Mad Hatter; my match.

——

Not everyone would get —

Your peculiar mind which bends, forms.

Brilliant, but held,

By societies normal.

I love your real craziness.

——

Genuinely you,

I never worry you’re fake.

You always reveal,

A hint of absurdity,

You finish my sentences.

—–

Your crazy begins,

It meets with my own and we’re —

Blessed to be us; home.

In our otherly world lost,

We are the best kind of mad.

Writing 101: Poem – Free Verse – “Many Worlds We Meet” #everydayinspiration #amwriting

The Writing 101 prompt for today was to mine your own material. So, as suggested, I took a peek in my unfinished drafts.

——–

Alive in a small small world; sentimental wounded creatures.

Black tar of my soul poisoned; such venom it features.

The words I held back, these words were suffocation.

And I am letting them free; I need restoration.

You see all my pieces, jagged from all matter of places.

You’ll be safe love; you’re Herby ahead in the car races.

I flea, I fly, with you to wherever the road lies.

Regarding our destination Mr. Tumnus’ Narnia, unimpressed; its wise.

——-

No expectations; surprise, a journey worth the wait.

The trek through Diagon Alley, helps me relate.

To the Aztec’s Tenochtitlan; walking miles for no reason.

Gleaning vivid sensations in the green summer season,

Can you see beyond ease, to the road less travelled in Ithica?

Crossing paths with strangers, on dusty trails and gravelled–

Side-walks between silver sunlite windowed buildings sprawled,

Winding staircases into the sky never reaching heaven’s snowfall.

——-

Beyond there are treasures hidden in mountains beneath,

The tunnels, dwarves lived in once upon a time; further seek —

Lands beyond humanity;  you and I, revelling in freedom,

Life returned to Middle Earth; muggles and pixies sailing around Neverland’s sun.

And down under Broadway and a futuristic Chicago

Jazz bands play tunes, humming music with beats which glow.

A pounding precision of dystopian notes,

Singing in the sky, the stars ignite and your kind words devote.

Inspire a brilliant vision in our minds connected, which in us exists.

You see intelligent design behind all of nature’s gifts,

Maybe, some others ought to search beneath the Tuscan Sun and deeper?

Discover reasons why we’ve knowledge of a keeper?

A being and knowing above and below, and beyond belief.

It is because of what is and was; will always be.

—–

Let us not conform, not walk-the-line; step over, we’re not confined.

I need to be able to fly fantastically, to grow.

Until I’m used up and facing the glow,

Your dear eyes light in the dark,

Knowing my soul and its wretched depths seen,

I’m just a woman; you’re my hearts reprieve, my dream.

Relaxed in your arms, rolling to our own sides,

Connected by breath; skin of our hands glide,

Your smile my weakness and my relief,

Happily Ever After in a burst of the budding leaf.

You and I,

Sleep and sigh.

Together know peace,

In our own Wonderland

Maydays: Poem – Wrapped Refrain – “Choosing Your Path” #Maydays

Thanks to K.L. Caley from the blog new2writing for hosting #Maydays prompts. Today’s prompt is a path. Also thanks to The Daily Post for the prompt words Pensive and Flourish

——

http://www.pathwaysforbetterliving.com

——-

You can choose a single road to go,

Down the pathway you must choose growth.

To flourish in the sun baked streets,

Converse and learn with those you meet,

Be not afraid of darkened, beat-up trails, explore.

Wherever you go, there is always more to see, a door —

——

Where one path leads you to go this —

Route; doors lead you down another with —

Promises, blue sky, summer’s kiss,

Warmth envading your body in bliss,

Light chases shadows away, and makes a wanderer,

Of the ‘at home’ person, leading them down, farther.

——

An array of paths to choose from,

Delight down every trail you’ve chosen.

Mystery and mirth meeting mind,

Thinking which way to go; see signs,

Imploring you to take a chance, don’t be pensive, advance.

Down the rabbit hole, into wonderland; happy dance.

——-

Wherever you choose, whatever path

Be thorough as you search, and laugh.

There’s no time for seriousness,

Now is a time for curiousness.

Down, the yellow brick road, past the enchanted forest.

Choose where you must traverse; the way life leads you best.

Poem: Free Verse – “Paper Bag Princess.”

Here’s for the meanings and the seemings,

The words we’ve been breathing, though they are concealing,

We’re never hidden behind steal, or a solid wall of bricks.

And we’re shamed, peeking out of ‘the cupboard,’ hiding like the Indian did from a childhood book.

We move through our thoughts, the glances of others who don’t understand —

What it means to remain hidden.

——

They’re all out there with their sunglasses and dreamy looks,

In a world finding love, come together — some love separates.

And I haven’t spent the days before Valentine’s Day dreaming,

I don’t need a man to give me flowers or chocolates.

I don’t need more demands and inferences of combinations dialled,

Short and electric, but fizzles and drizzles, as the rain pours outside.

Dividing our time between sleeping and daylight,

And the sun keeps on rising;

I keep on imprivising all the things I’m construing,

In a mind filled with despising a guy who I left.

Who made me know what it hurts like to feel neglect,

After he’s gone on, but still calling — I wish he would stop.

That I could forget all about these “tygers” and their wants.

I’m not happy nor comfortable, unless they get their cut, pieces of my being;

They’re dividing me among each other, taking the best cuts and leaving the scraps.

—–

And outside is a puppy and I want to hold her, because she doesn’t need much —

Only to eat, walk, cuddle, play, and go wee.

She needs her nails clipped and her teeth brushed sometimes.

I’m a woman begging everyday of her life for things I’m uninspired to give,

If you won’t even attempt to do better, make it as important as a ‘business deal.’

I’m not above you or below you you dirty-thirty-something.

I’m just looking for meaning among people who are loyal.

I’m caught in my dreams, betwixt the real and the “real” in this Wonderland.

And if we look through the ‘looking glass’ we only see people in poverty,

Who are thinking only of eating and surviving.

Loving doesn’t matter much when you are looking for fresh water,

When you’re sickly and dying — or does it matter most?

——

But here, won’t you hear me —

In our first- world of problems —

I’m trying! I’m trying — but it’s never enough.

You dragons eat your steaks and leave me with nothing but my dry bones.

You ravish a ‘paper-bag princess’ and leave her without a stitch;

Clothes that cover her heart.

And you suck her organs dry of blood and all matter,

You leave a her exposed for the vultures to grasp at,

You break open a bottle of liquor and the whole room explodes,

Covered in champagne and the bubbles make you choke.

Sifting through closets, cover up my exposed heart,

I don’t want to reveal myself but in the “real” world I must.

Because if your broken your fixable and can be put back together,

A mirror that’s shattered and eternally busted.

——

And these words may make little sense but that’s what you call — prose poetry,

Of a girl, who’s  a woman, who’s a child, who’s lured by the promises,

Of a blackness so bleak no one can see in front of their face,

Because in the darkest depths, the light shines brightest.

Arise and save yourself,

Think of the words to describe your freedom desired —

Taylor Swift wrote it well: ” It’s too late for you and your white horse to catch me now.”
