Saturday Mix: Poem – Villanelle – “Dog of the House” #amwriting #saturdaymix #dVerse #poetry

Thanks to Teresa of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting last Saturday’s Mix prompt based on ‘sounds‘ in certain locations. I’ll be combing it with #dVerse prompt on using a Villanelle style of poetry thanks to Frank Hubeny at Poet’s pub for hosting that.

——-

Quiet before the bustling crowds come out,

An awkward silence, distant noise undefined;

Then there is barking, a chorus sings, shouts —

Dog owners fumbling, sidewalks to new route —

Down verdant trails, nature whispers sublime,

Many dogs scrambling, playing, all about,

The new dogs can’t win, woof triumphant shouts.

Man’s best friend loves parks, rabbits smell divine.

Aromas, squirrel chirps, bird tweets, still mouses.

Mouse souvenir of pride for mom, on her couch;

As Dad showers above, Mom’s scent resides,

Flowers, citrus, sprayed here and there in spouts.

Dad’s Dior cologne sprayed so thickly it clouds,

Sneezing many times, scent too strong, despised

Mom’s heels click, goodbye kisses resounding

Leaning love, licking smacking kisses now,

Mom’s laughter sprinkled, Dad’s chuckles confide,

He loves me, she loves me; for this is my home.

From a sick dog on the city streets found,

Home protector, sonorous barks resound.

Skilled, talented throwing the line,

Worm dangles beneath,

Fish doesn’t comprehend his fate.

——-

Struggle, fighting, swishing, pulling in,

Glinting scaled being,

Waged battle, he couldn’t win.

——

You reel him in proud,

Heavy fish squirming,

Another moment, then he’s still.

Day 29 – NaPoWriMo/A to Z Challenge/Photo Challenge: Poem – Italian Sonnet – “Arbitrary Blackness” #poetry #NaPoWriMo #AtoZChallenge #SylviaPlath

Thanks to NEKEEREJ of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting this week’s photo challenge. For NaPoWriMo the prompt is ” to take one of your favorite poems and find a very specific, concrete noun in it. . . After you’ve chosen your word, put the original poem away and spend five minutes free-writing associations – other nouns, adjectives, etc. Then use your original word and the results of your free-writing as the building blocks for a new poem. The last letter of the A to Z Challenge is of course the letter Z for a GoodRead’s quote.

———–

All warfare is based on deception. Hence, when we are able to attack, we must seem unable; when using our forces, we must appear inactive; when we are near, we must make the enemy believe we are far away; when far away, we must make him believe we are near.” — Sun Tzu, The Art of War

———

Noun – “arbitrary blackness”

– “drops dead, “head,” imagined you”, come home, never did, lost love, war, hoping, never returned so he was lost in the war, she becomes this blackness, because he is gone, “Satan’s men” – the Nazi’s in Germany, exit, dreamed was with him in bed, dreams always, but she is mad, he exists no longer, never returned so never was?

——-

They say this is no war for girls to fight in,

The men go off to fight their battles, estranged.

For everyone, life’s callous rearranged.

If he’s out there, he’s changed, sick as sin.

Everyone, everywhere drops dead, there’s no win.

In cities, in ghettos, wars collide.

Drop dead, silly head, mad but I’m alive.

Gone for all time, years ago in air thin

Arbitrary blackness fills my soul.

Satan’s men on trial, live in soul’s holes.

With those from the camps, fuel for fire.

Haunted dreams, PTSD now respired.

Mad to love you, but I wait and desire.

Arbitrary blackness still encloses.

Poem: Free Verse – “The Battle Infinite”

http://www.youtube.com

———

Demons dreaming,

Surround me as I wake;
Oh give me serenity,
Nightmares creep and ache.

Falling from a mind overwhelmed,

By imagination on overdrive;

Let my mind be at peace,

Let the demons finally cease.

No understanding have I,

Why the demons we slaughter,

Are always the same sin.

I defeated you before,

But you come back for more;

The snake, loathsome reptile,

From Eden you did break.

Losing tiny snake legs,

To strike a woman’s heel.

How dare you come back,

To bring me down again.

I pray you keep your distance;

You keep moving closer.

Claustrophobia, panic,

Praying you don’t turn me to granite;

Pulling out my weapons,

I’ll battle Medusa harder still.

You can see the braided,

 Depths of my scars;

We know each other well old foe,

But I won’t go down pleading;

I have light in my armour,

Not the kind which normal snakes like;

The kind which burns,

Makes snakes writhe for life.

Pain will be your only friend,

Old foe; you fight the same.

Each and every time I return,

I don’t know why I turned my back on you;

Those not weary do not see,

The enemy coming up behind,

A dagger piercing my back; my heart.

A knock to my head; concussions blind;

But I heal fast, and I heal stronger.

Building my muscles each movement,

I recover; blood may flow,

And I hurt all the same;

What’s worse, I can’t blame you for all,

I do this to myself.

Will you ever learn stupid girl?

When are you no longer a frightened child?

There are no excuses to justify my crimes;

I know what is right and yet,

Time and again I find my foe and fight.

A battle with motions memorized,

A continual siege; I win and lose.

Pound you into the ground,

Poison you with your potent venom;

But you bounce back and reform,

Taking on another sin,

To challenge me for awhile;

Making it sound excellent,

That such a rest wouldn’t be exuberant.

If I’m smart I liquefy you;

Your blood and more stain the ground.

But since I’m human,

I complicate the issues.

And there are days I pause,

To be attacked and left weaponless,

Filled with panic and worry,

Wandering the valley as the poison seeps deep.

Only in the coming of dawn do I delight,

Fortitude returns and I smile small,

Learning my lesson,

Time and time again.

Experience keeps teaching despite,

A woman who continues to decide who she is;

Not knowing, not realizing,

Life is a gory battle, no one escapes.

The scar tissue builds upon scars;

Wounds of war are often the worst,

When we are not expecting them.

Pulling the dagger from my own back;

It’s a pain I hate to remember vividly.

But I got up;

And I walked on.

Feeling the dawn heal me;

As I kept on the road.

To another traveller I might seem,

A terrified, desperate girl.

Yet more often I see the same look in another’s eyes;

The knowledge of heart break, repentance, and experience.

A cycle doomed to repeat until we’ve finally learned;

Bigger hands than ours must deal the blows.

Hands which hold,

Entirety of unknown and known universes;

Hands which cradle the world.

Sunday Photo Fiction: Nearsighted Daredevils.

There is a game we play, a dangerous thrilling dare. You can’t have perfect vision to play. In fact, if your eyes are enormously nearsighted you’ll have greater fun.

Your heart will pound as the adrenaline rushes through you. You’ve taken out your contacts and are wearing your glasses as you approach the road. When it’s your turn remove your glasses and prepare.

We’re all standing by the freeway and there aren’t many vehicles going by, but the ones that drive past are going at incredibly high speeds. When your visions poor, the lights from the headlights and taillights change, are gigantic blobs and lines of colour.

Step up to that yellow line that marks where the side of the road ends and the actual fourlane road begins. If you squint, you can make out the yellow line on the otherside, your goal.

Now walk across the road, go fast. You only see a blur of lights and motion. You’re blind remember? Your eyes -9.75. If you cross the road and don’t get hit you win, your body riding high on endorphins.

Such a fun game for stupid daredevils to play; at least until your bestfriend ends up dead.

Poem: Acrostic – “Not the End”

Thanks to The Daily Post for the word prompt friend.

—–

Acrostic Poetry is where the first letter of each line spells a word, usually using the same words as in the title.

Please see Shadow Poetry for further information.

—–

Feeling as if I didn’t want to be alone, so I went and talked to you in the back of the old store.

Remembering  all the fantastic times we shared together, that you never let me down; memories layered upon memories, even in the tough times.

I‘m worried because you’re sick now, and the fight against some diseases is an awful fight; you’re one of the strongest women I know and I pray for you each night.

Empathy, is the best word that describes how I feel for you; you are a champion and you fight for your family, your health, you fight to win.

Nothing would take my friendship away; years of ‘us’ have been built and are iron tough; time will go on and though we’re apart we connect as always.

Death won’t even be the end because you’ll be with me in heaven too; but not until we’re both old and grey, for now keep pushing ahead with my love, the love of all who love you,  behind you.

Savouring the moments we share, laughing, drinking wine, and thinking back on all that has been and all that will be; seeing a bright future ahead for you; don’t ever think this is the end.

Poem: Quatrains on Life

It’s hard to shut my mind off.

There’s no switch, so it keeps wandering,

Down the paths of will I and should I?

Through the trails of could I? Would I?

——-

I think I’ve been making some important steps.

I also think there are parts of the wheel,

That still haven’t turned and the process is slow,

But I try to do well just the same.

——

I’m stuck in a pattern and it’s not right,

To fear having so many people around,

To wonder how long until my body gives out,

To wish for meaning, but instead I’ll drift.

——-

Idle, conversation, I am merely there to be there,

To see a girl who lights up the world.

But her candle’s been flickering lately.

Even though she is doing well; I worry,

—–

She’s breaking the back of a milicious monster,

It starts with a “C” it’s a terrible disease,

But she doesn’t give it power,

It’s why she refers to it as ‘Boobitas.’

—–

Maybe, she is being cute but I have to agree,

Power lies with the fears we let overcome us,

And she has a life to live, a baby to love.

Better not to let the ‘C’ word devour.

—–

Tomorrow night there will be a party,

To celebrate her thirty years on earth.

Many will have with them their other half,

But I’m devasted by many guys these days,

——

I don’t want to be alone, but I’m not desperate,

But to date in your thirties living with Mom,

Makes the dating process harder.

Not to mention it’s hard for me to be out long with my health,

—–

I miss being a couple, but I don’t want my ex back.

I’ve been there before and done that.

And I’ve talked to many guys, they are quick,

And many are sly, they aren’t interested in putting effort in, or talk,

—–

They only want a woman whose warm,

I write stories and I read them too,

Guys in books they don’t exist,

And when I go to write a character,

——

I follow the literary tradition of writing books about guys woman want,

But don’t exist in the real world,

I’m not sure I could write a real guy,

I’m not sure what the ideal real-life guy is like,

——

He would probably eat a lot and want a lot of sheet twisting,

When you go out, he’d say ‘you choose.’

Then not tell you when he hates it.

And he wouldn’t go with you again,

—–

I don’t think there were ever wonderful princes,

I don’t think there are wonderful millionaires or billionaires.

I think there are a lot of people,

Choosing to stay single because they can’t find their person.

——

But then I see my friends with husbands,

I see their boyfriends and I know they are doing well,

Perhaps, I’m on the outside looking in,

But my past relationship was never quite right.

—–

These are only things I wonder, when I’m tired on a Friday night,

When I had plans but it didn’t work out,

At least I sold my old IPad, slow friend.

And my new one is so fast she purs.

——

And I’m submitting writing to all these different places,

I’m trying to build a portfolio of published work.

But it takes time to craft stories and poems,

Even posted here, they still require work.

—–

So, If nothing else I am productive,

And looking to live my writing dreams,

The mouse typing  in a pile of rodents spinning,

Tomorrow my friend is thirty and even that’s not enough time to be friends with her.

Poem: Minute – These Days

00004A290FD4.C0A801BA.000079A7.0015

There are days I cannot stop, I fly —

Hear me I sigh.

Look I’m so sore.

Wait for an encore.

—-

There are waters I cannot swim,

Dip my toes in,

The water is fine.

So I dive in.

—–

My body needs sleep and dreams

Funny how it seems,

I cannot win.

But each day I grin.

—-

The New Year brings so much with it

Can’t catch a drift.

Need to write more

Until my soul soars.

Poem – The Challenge

Maybe, I’ll be stronger ,

When I can face the challenge.

Maybe I’ll get through it.

When I have some freedom.

There’s liberty in government,

Then there’s liberty of health.

Sometimes there’s freedom of the heart,

Sometimes the chains of life are heavy.

I wish that I were so young again,

When everything was really nothing.

When I felt like I could not be harmed,

And when I couldn’t do no harming.

But life has taught me that we grow,

And drown in our struggles.

Sometimes all we need is a hand up,

A guardian, a wing and a prayer.

But though I try not to worry,

I feel at my back time always wins,

Filling up my days with such aggravation,

I try to get ahead, but my chains cause abrasions.

Healing is along process,

If you survive to Monday.

Or make it until the morning.

You are no weakling.

You are just a human fighting,

Embracing life’s challenges,

Not letting it overcome you,

You are forging freedom.

You are the broken spirit

Holding light in the darkness.
