“The Cave” – Mumford & Sons

—–

Your broken walk, your deceptive talk,

You meat-eater, man-eater,

Frigid walls of your heart echo without beat.

Cowardly harlot of bitter teeth,

Take all your bites,

Leave the bones picked clean.

Starving the peasants,

In your shallow retreat.

Malice, miscalculations,

Your sins they visit your neighbours.

The harvest is barren,

No fruit bursts eaten.

Devouring the land,

You think no one knows,

But I know your shame is complete.

And for some odd reason,

I pity the weak.

I pity your barren soul attacking,

Then, retreating.

I’ll not be the swimmer,

Drowned by your weighted pulls,

Clawing acrylic fingers.

——-

So I will hold on to hope,

No noose will scrap your delicate throat.

I’ll find strength in pain,

I will change my ways.

My name will be no whisper,

You will not be my defeat.

——-

My faults, my fears,

Pummeling my face.

But I am numb,

I weather the war.

The suffering you’ve caused,

Tears droplets from heaven.

You are not forgiven,

You cannot make me deaf,

I see all your faults and all your fears,

You cannot mask wretchedness,

Not change until it’s admitted.

——-

So I will hold on hope,

No noose will scrape your delicate throat.

I’ll find strength in pain,

I will change my ways.

My name will be no whisper,

You will not be my defeat.

——

I’ll invade the darkest cave,

Find your hiding place.

There’s no safety in your chambers,

Come out walking on your hands.

Do you comprehend,

The nature of dependence

When you see the Creator’s plans

The makers hands?

So much mightier than your,

Waifish fingers wringing.

Crawl and then arise,

I’ll ignore your Siren’s call,

Your voice a hollow sound,

Wounds my ears.

Aches my heart,

Heart of diamond rock.

Freedom’s a melody that calls to me,

A treble cliff in the sky,

Floating music notes that speak of remorse.

Your siren’s lure,

Has been escaped.

The magician knows,

Reality’s illusions.

——

So I will hold on hope,

No noose will scrape your delicate throat.

I’ll find strength in pain,

I will change my ways.

My name will be no whisper,

You will not be my defeat.

Day 21 – NaPoWriMo/A to Z Challenge /Music Prompt: Poem – Octaine Refrain – “Just Because You Can” #NaPoWriMo #AtoZChallenge #MusicChallenge

Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt us “to write a poem that incorporates overheard speech, I’m using a part of song lyrics.” The A to Z Challenge for a GoodRead’s author’s Quote is for the letter R. Also I’m incorporating MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie Music Prompt on the Dolly Parton Song “Jolene” performed recently with the a capella group Pentatonix.

——–

Please don’t take my man, just because you can,

Your beauty is immeasurable, unique,

I wish my man wasn’t who you were seeking.

I know my request you don’t understand,

You can love again and do it easily.

I wish you didn’t make him feel so pleased,

He loved me before your auburn hair strands,

Brushed past his face, and made him so weak.

Please don’t take my man, just because you can.
——

Please don’t take my man, just because you can.

Your voice so soft like summer rain, laughing,

Your sense of humour for him attractive.

You float through life a stunning star ambling,

Not thinking of women like me you hurt.

Your seduction done so freely, not worth —

The heartache you cause just because you can.

I can’t love again, so value what you have,

Please don’t take my man, just because you can.

Day 3 – NaPoWriMo/A to Z Challenge: Poem – Elegy/Couplets – “The Traveler Reaches Home” #poetry #NaPoWriMo #AtoZchallenge

Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt is  poem type called an elegy – a poem that mourns or honors someone dead or something gone by. Center the elegy on an unusual fact about the person or thing being mourned. ” An elegy generally combines three stages of loss: first there is grief, then praise of the dead one, and finally consolation.” Please see Literary Devices for more information.

I’ve paired this prompt with The A to Z Challenge quote, having the author/quoter’s name begin with the letter C.

“We are all the pieces of what we remember. We hold in ourselves the hopes and fears of those who love us. As long as there is love and memory, there is no true loss.” Cassandra Clare, City of Heavenly Fire

——-

Here we gather, today it finally hit —

Me, you won’t be coming back; such grit

You displayed, at the crux, as death grew near.

There was no “going gently” for you dear.

I always admired that you were strong,

At the finish you groaned your last song.

The pain was so great, it hurt us to see,

A candle flame who flared, flickering free.

Death was not easy, nor was your young life.

But you always shouldered through the strife.

A kind, giving person — philanthropist,

With death, you became a minimalist.

Objects hold memories, the Stone’s song we know —

well: “You Can’t Take It With You When You Go.”

As we remember, we wonder why —

Three-years ago you left, disappeared wide —

Across the world, sending postcards to —

Us all, as you adventured across through —

Every country you could see with no —

Face Time, Skype; we were scared you wouldn’t come —

Back; but you knew how sick you had become.

That’s why you left, returned, with all of your —

Stories to share as you withered, poorly —

Weak and fragile, all your living used up.

No matter we were so afraid it’s just

We didn’t understand your reasons ’til —

You said, “I’m dying fast, I have no more will —

to live, my time is drawing near, I see —

God’s blessed glory shining, in front of me.”

We forgive you for leaving twice; we know —

Your Heavenly home, will now shelter you.

It’s hard how it ended, but we’ll see you —

Soon — in the peace, Heaven granted for you.

Tale Weavers: Poem – Free Verse – “Without You” #taleweavers #poetry #amwriting

Last week’s Tale Weaver’s prompt was to use the code pictured below, in telling a story. Thanks to Michael from MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting.

——

Your garbled words, they don’t make sense,

They were the last words you wrote, then;

You disappeared, no trace of whence,

You’d return, so explain again,

Why you left me alone heart so rent?

Why you can’t explain our past tense?

You’re not weak, but through aged lense,

Disease stole my gentlemen.

You were young, full of life intense;

With passion for dreams, no pretense.

The man you were is gone; he’s distant,

Lost, his last thoughts code absurd.

I don’t understand, things he heard,

Why he aged quickly; ill concerned,

For someone who used direct words.

Now your life is finite, deterred.

You aren’t who I knew, you’re gone, turned;

Alzheimer’s stole you — who you were,

I’m the woman left behind blurred;

A ghost — now we’re both unheard.

Saturday Mix Flash Fiction: Soliquey – Blank Verse – “The Con” #amwriting #soliliquey #fiction #SaturdayMix

Thanks to Bastet from MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting Saturday Mix. This week’s prompt is a soliloquy at a train station. I’ll be using blank verse or unrhymed iambic pentameter as the Bard did.

—–

“Imagine a scene, a train is pulling out of the station and a person standing on the platform looking dejected. What can have happened. Perhaps this person is someone in the station wishing to leave but for some reason hasn’t. “

——

——-

So leaves the train, so leaves my heart,

Why him I once loved, now I know not?

Must have been his eyes so brilliant a green,

Gems such as emeralds, a sea-green storm brewed.

Was it his cavalier smile, his laugh?

With him I felt wanted, weak in the knees.

I was his Queen, he my adoring King.

He cared for me gently, said I shouldn’t stay —

On my own, for he loved me; fooled me,

Underestimated a woman cruelly scorned.

I saw cracks in the vase, facade crumbled,

An artist’s dream of beauty such a fake,

He left, emptied my pockets of money.

This con thinks he’s safe going to Bahamas,

Since he betrayed me, I say differently.

He’ll be doing some flying, and me thinks he’s done.
Thrown off the tallest bridge, out of the train.

Expensive was his end, but I’m appeased

I watched his train moving away, still —

Missing his voice, his touch, time spent loving.

But I know he never loved me, I was ‘means’ —

To an end; yet, the ‘real end’ was his own.

“I know that’s what people say– you’ll get over it. I’d say it, too. But I know it’s not true. Oh, you’ll be happy again, never fear. But you won’t forget. Every time you fall in love it will be because something in the man reminds you of him.”

― Betty Smith, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

******

One day you promised me the pain,

Would eventually heal, I’d be —

Free from photographs and the shame.

While I am here, tears streaming.

Out of my mind, of my head,

Did you burn memories seething?

They never left my soul, they’re undead,

While I’m here, tears streaming.

You and her, it’s the cut deepest,

Never heals, it bleeds; you beaming

A baby’s breath; life makes me weak.

While I’m here, tears streaming.

At times, I’m over you completely,

Then, an image leaves me grieving.

Heart of the girl, a heart too sweet.

While I’m here, tears streaming.

Conversation wouldn’t aid, I —

Learn to sew up all broken seams.

Especially in sleep, where I cry,

While I’m here, tears streaming.

A few hours, a few days and —

I’ll be fine again —breathing.

Didn’t have much, nothing so grand.

While I’m here, tears streaming.

Let go, let me free, unburden me,

Stop snipping my wings, inhaling

The past’s ashes, it chokes me,

I was here, tears dried; now I’m free.

Everyone’s felt broken, with force knocked down;

Leave your floodgates open, sad tears douse fires.

Learn to love when someone hurts you, when you drown —

In tears, the sweetest nector, they inspire.

There’s great might in being weak, don’t meltdown,

Pick-up the pieces, work with it –aspire.

Everyone’s felt broken, with force knocked down;

Leave your floodgates open, sad tears douse fires.

There is strength in you, a hero renowned,

You’ve more terror than the fire demons respire.

Beat, belittled, your relisiant admired.

You’re better than your worst days –you’re profound

Leave your floodgates open, sad tears douse fires.

Poem/Song: Free to Say “No.”

You probably only think I’m weak,

That I’m making you choose,

A choice you don’t want to lose,

You probably only think I’m weak,

But what choice do I have,

I can’t let a man hurt again,

You probably only think I’m weak,

But abuse is abuse,

He’s starving you of your right to choose,

—–

And every time I think back when,

A man like the one you have,

Hurt me so deep,

He never heard the word, “No.”

You think that’s just how it goes,

Bu you have a voice,

Sometimes you have to scream loud,

Don’t touch me again,

Don’t come near me again,

Leave me alone,

I deserve better then your abuse.

—–

You probably only think I’m weak,

He’s only hurt you once or twice,

And he apologized,

You probably only think I’m weak,

That I’m just seeing things,

Remembering memories,

You probably on think I’m weak,

But I see how he hurts you,

And that he doesn’t hear you speak.

——-

And every time I think back when,

A man like the one you have,

Hurt me so deep,

He never listened when I said, “No.”

You think that’s the way love goes,

But you have a voice,

Sometimes you have to scream loud,

Don’t touch me again,

Don’t come near me again,

Leave me alone,

I deserve more than your hurt.

——

You probably only think I’m weak,

But I’m trying to help,

Trying to make you see,

You probably only think I’m weak,

But bad becomes intolerable,

So, get up and leave.

You probably only think I’m weak,

But I’ve walked in your shoes,

Let’s both of us run away.

——-

And every time I think back when,

A man like the one you had,

Hurt me so deep,

He never heard the word, “No.”

It’s not the way loveing goes.

But we have a voice,

Sometimes we have to scream loud,

Don’t touch me again,

Don’t come near me again,

Leave us alone,

Because we are both free

—–

Free to be ourselves

Free to be safe–

Free to say, “No.”

Poem: For Suffering

If strength should find me,
I would prey, Lord take this pain away.

And he might answer:

“Yes, my child.”

And I could go on with my life.

And feel that I am fortified against the things that make me sad.

The sickness that I live with.

And I should prey, because prayer heals,

And I think God might be answering my prayers.

But I suffer just the same, as you prayed “Lord take this cup away.”

You promised to fight for me, If only I’d be still.

But having faith is so hard when all you want to do is move, not lie in bed all day.

Yet, I know that you are “I am,” with the whole world in your hands.

And I’m struggling still with the fact, that you would want this future for me

God, why must we suffer?

How could you cause us to feel pain, and love us so.

The answer given is sublime.

Take a look at He who suffered and died, it is so you might know Him so.

And in your misery become reliant on him.

Because when I am weak He is strong.

But I sing my fight song anyways,

I know that He fights with me now.

And every time I draw away,

He will bring me back again, in the most patient way.

I understand His reasons little

But that one day I should be with Him eternally.

And as a person of the world I walk a thin line.

That I must follow Him and His ways and still deal with being me, a hurting person,

Who wants to live just the way the world goes.

But strength I feel is coming from Him, so I might heal as he trains my soul.

And one day not feel this again, never in this lifetime or the next.

Suffering

www.dogpictures.co
http://www.dogpictures.co

The word suffer according to the Merriam Webster Dictionary means “to experience pain, illness, or injury; to experience something unpleasant  (such as defeat loss or damage); to become worse because of being badly affected by something.” Through the suffering of my beloved pet Nikki I have learnt what it is to suffer. But let us not forget that the suffering of people in this world is far worse than the suffering of any animal but the endurance of suffering through our pets can also be quite damaging.

Since rheumatoid arthritis has shown it’s face it’s been an utterly intolerably cruel disease to Nikki. At first she could still walk but it was a very slow and paced walk. Then her muscle began to give way and her walking became rarer, became a loping, an utterly hard process to watch as she tried to stay off of her previously injured front right paw and make her way around the upstairs floor. She could no longer go to the basement or go outside in the back yard because there were to many stairs for her and she could hurt herself badly. Now Nikki, having lost almost all her strength has one good point around supper time in the day where she can maybe get up to just snag a little treat but mostly she just lies there. And I ache for her suffering because without pain killers her legs hurt. And it still hurts her to raise her body off the floor and if she stands she stands for but a moment before falling and she has learnt the correct way to fall as to not hurt herself more. Her body, her legs are giving out.

I sit with her at lunch. Where she used to come and beg, I go to her and give her a few scraps from lunch. I give her some vegetables and pieces of toast with peanut butter. It makes me feel better that she is eating something because I had to hand feed hera portion of herkibble this morning. Today I am trying to get her to drink but even putting a short little dish or water by her head

www.magforwomen.com
http://www.magforwomen.com

and holding her head to drink, she isn’t interested. The only time I can see she feels pleasure is when we feed her little scraps or pet her because she pants and smiles. Other than that, her tail is between her legs and she just lies around on the floor. She was a snuggly dog before and she can’t snuggle. So I pet her many times as I pass her by so she still feels the love. My Dad had to pick her up so she could go to the washroom the other day and she could go on her own once she was on the grass but I wonder how long that will last.

There is one more medication for us to try, while Nikki suffers and waits. I wait for the vet to call us with the price and medication. I wonder if she’ll last that long. I didn’t think arthritis would simply take her out. She is old (12 years) but not that old. Through Nikki I learn suffering. Years ago I learnt it through my Grandpa as he faded away but it is a different kind of suffering I learn to see an animal suffer, more like seeing a child suffer. Nikki is helpless to the suffering. And maybe some people can disassociate themselves away from their pets and think they’re just animals that’s what happens, the have short lives. But you see with any sickness, even with my own, you never see it coming. You never know how damaging it can be. So I learn suffering through my little dog as she lays expressionless on the floor and I wonder how long she’ll last? Will she get better or will she end her days on the floor, remembering legs that use to run and run and run.
