#OctPoWriMo Day 19/Photo Challenge: Poem – Free Verse – “Free Love” #amwritingpoetry #photochallenge

For OctPoWriMo Day 19, the prompt is “What Do You Want?” I’m combining with NEKNEERAJ’s MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie Photo Challenge.

They say when you breath slow, head between your legs,
When your mind works out things,
Your lost words will flicker home.
You’ll not feel drained, the sky’ll end hailing;
You’ll soak up the rain, a starving tulip, not cowering.
There are ways to feed your soul, and feed mouths.
And you try to listen inside,
to the conscience that knows only His tones.
I have plans, great journeys ahead;
I plan for you to prosper and bloom despite your frail limbs.
Yet, I scramble; I’m turning up rocks as I limp;
Tilling this garden, as my hands bleed life.
Dirt acrid, stuck in my nails, tattooed on my skin,
An oder I’ll not forget —fresh, as the dew on the grass after the storm;
Nose-wrinkling pungent, life’s essence.
I peer into the vastness, to the valley where I beg to rest.
I’m tumbling with trepidation; I’m scared of unknown sensations.
I’m pushing against the grain — I’m not easily killed, defeated as weeds by chemicals and garden gloves.
Lie near me on the peppermint grass, stroke my hair as it floats ‘round my face;
Loose on the grass as whiskey, as in the pale chinook winds, we find peace and relax.
Lie beside me, for I am weary of fighting alone;
I don’t know how to carry your burdens — our burdens or mine.
My eyes slip closed and I sleep in Neverland,
Lost girl fierce, but never little.
Still, I’m the determined pink daisy as a-new-day’s sunlight feeds my soul;
So, nourish it well dear one, and for your love, don’t ask so much that I break.
Feed my soul, hear my prayers, Lord.
Sometimes I’m the wilting violets, the frost slips in as fingertips black pluck at my leaves, my frozen petals.
Feed my soul, and answer its song.
Have I chosen right?
Or, am I gliding towards a ledge,
More than hanging my toes over a bit;
Am I free falling towards darkness and sin?
Or, am I trying to trust, to hope, and to love?
A entrepreneur for authenticity and someone whose love sets us both free.
Oh Lord, am I free wheeling to death?
A cat who’s twitched too late before the coyotes growl at bay;
Before mistakes will cost me dear.
Yet, in the end, my love and I are asleep in the grass, Protect our small worlds,
I can’t find the answers and each day we struggle.

Hear our petitions when we forget, you carry us both when we stumble — even when we can neither find free love, but from you.

Photo/Music Challenge/ Saturday Mix: Poem – Decuaine – “No Pretty Tears” #amwriting #poetry #musicchallenge #SaturdayMix #photochallenge

Thanks to NEKNEERAJ of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting this Photo Challenge #219. Also, thanks to Sarah of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting Saturday Mix with a prompt based on writing a Decuain. Finally, I’m also combining with MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie ‘s Music Challenge #28 with the song “Cry Pretty” by Carrie Underwood.

Decuain:

The Decuain (pronounced deck•won), created by Shelley A. Cephas, is a short poem made up of 10 lines, which can be written on any subject. There are 10 syllables per line and the poem is written in iambic pentameter.

There are 3 set choices of rhyme scheme:

ababbcbcaa, ababbcbcbb, or ababbcbccc

For a longer Decuain poem, add more stanzas for a double, triple, quatruple, etc. Decuain.

Cry Pretty” by Carrie Underwood

I’ll keep my heart closed, remain unexposed,

For I’m just a girl, though composure slips —

I can’t stay rock solid, broke and alone.

To shatter is human as each soul someday splits,

Despite all the glue patching seismic shifts.

I’m trapped in these thorns, a city of ash-bones,

I cry as I struggle caged, my insides nicked.

No one cries pretty, but smiles hide your groans.

You can say it’s all fine, until fake tears loath,

No masking; no one cries pretty like stone.

*****

Lace and gems can’t hide my inner heart’s shame,

I try to be real, but false words infect —

In a crowd or at home, beneath poise tears rain.

Mirrors don’t lie, hurt a picture of neglect,

So, my eyes flow, as infection wrecks.

No one cries pretty, scarring pain isn’t myth.

You can’t pretend when the dam breaks, correct —

Those trails of mascara; they blacken and drip.

Scratching your face, skin red, itching with pain;

You can’t cry pretty — you’ll learn real tears save.

Three Line Tales: Fiction – Leave Him Wild #amwriting #3LineTales

Thanks to Sonya of Only 100 Words for hosting #3LineTales.

He flicks his tale and propels through the tank, but he used to swim without stopping in oceans lacking clear-walls; where he stalked his pray as it bled-out and struggled. Hunting once was meaningful, but now his razor teeth clamp down and tear flesh in a passive frenzy; he has rows of the sharpest cutting knives in his mouth.

The curious eyes staring back at him are baffling as pale up-right creatures tap the clear-wall forgetting he’s wild as he rams it; their shrieks cause his blood to roar — somehow he will return home.

#NaPoWriMo Day 24/ Photo Challenge: Poem – Elegy – “Mona Lisa’s Wish” #amwriting #poetry #photochallenge #MLMM

For NaPoWriMo Day 24 the Prompt is: “to write an elegy – a poem typically written in honor or memory of someone dead. But we’d like to challenge you to write an elegy that has a hopefulness to it.”

Also, combining with NEKNEERAJ’s MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie Photo Challenge.

“In the 18th century the “elegiac stanza” emerged, though its use has not been exclusive to elegies. It is a quatrain with the rhyme scheme ABAB written in iambic pentameter.” – (Poetryfoundation.org)

Mona Lisa’s smile, hiding ‘neath veiled eyes,

Legs kicked back in fine stilettos she aches;

Another breath consuming smoke, she respires.

In her last moments, she did not awake.

****

Tissue-paper eyes, refusing revival,

Her last tar-filled breathe such relief — she smiled;

As she never had before, without guile,

No enigmatic curve, carved-out deep-lines.

****

Etched on fair-skin, no more mystery lured,

Last wine sipped with tales of yesterdays.

Before, her portrait immortalized her,

Defined her, as one — not her, with mild gaze.

*****

Bruised under-eyes, her laugh-lines were disturbed;

Never allowed to fade into obscureness.

On show — as if she was mere vanity,

She wished for no portrait, but kind words.

****

You wouldn’t get a crook’s relieved destruction,

It set Lisa free; made her drop the gun smoking,

So now, she’s in the graveyard tucked;

A crook ruined her visage, as she had hoped.

****

To not hear whispers, your ‘ooos’ and ‘aaahs’ said.

To be free of the glass, the Louvres had her trapped,

A part of her soul in oil, now too is dead.

She’s gone, coy lady, all in Heaven’s grasp.

****

Music/Photo Challenge: Poem – Blitz – “Broken As Birds” #poetry #musicchallenge #photochallenge

Thanks to MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting the music Challenge, 4 week’s back, “Bird Set Free” by Sia. Also, thanks to NEKNEERAJ of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting Photo Challenge #201.

“Bird Set Free” — Sia

Broken like a cage, a bird flutters, pages in the breeze

Harnessed voice caught, sputters,

Sputters as clipped wings sprout feathers

Sputters as a tattered soul struggles

Struggles through the pain

Struggles, not able to sanguinely sing

Sing the fire of a scream inside

Sing the song of a creature chained

Chained and rejected

Chained, but the need to soar resides

Resides within a silent piercing message

Resides within her brokenness surviving

Surviving and holding on tight, nails piercing skin

Surviving in the melodies, phrases key —

Key to life, the writer writing,

Key to life, the singer singing with iron will

Will to shout as a bird set free

Will of vocals as a crescendoing sound

Sound of a voice roaring, echoing and never ebbing

Sound of a voice struggling back to life

Life, a vivid dream alive and brilliant

Life a scream torn from our insides, sick pain rising

Rising and lifting wings in the wind

Rising no longer with ghosts hiding

Hiding the lies that eat through us inside

Hiding our sadness, those tears until —

Until our voices are shrill from relief

Until melodies release the tension

Tension of of being muted and broken

Tension of piercing wails lifted

Lifted high, nails scratching to be alive

Lifted high not wanting to die, caged door open

Open to life and exploring, songs that twist

Open to life, shouting loud, a bird set free to fly

Fly to the edges of the ancient map

Fly to the fire of the sun, wings without wax

Wax poetic of those times you felt trapped

Wax on the candle dripping as light fades

Fades to be reborn in celestial fire

Fades as dreams rediscovered in ditties

Ditties thrown as a bird set free

Ditties forever sung, a piercing yell released

Released all anger, released all pain

Released all bitterness, soaring as the falcon —

Falcon dipping, bending, screeching

Falcon, no master, no cage, no traps

Screeching because birds glide to their own tunes

Trap escaped — now a birds truly set free.

#NovemberNotes Day 30/Three Line Tales: Nonfiction – Breaking the Shell #flashfiction #3LineTales #amwriting

For November Notes Day 30, the final prompt song is “Break the Shell” by India Arie. I’m combining with the #3LineTale prompt by Sonya of Only 100 Words.

Break the Shell” by India Arie

Hard decisions are frustrating, such as spray painting a mural and wanting it to be perfect, then watching it painted over in white the next day; but we can’t let indecision and fear hold us back as shadows too make a person whole. We want to live a life without pain but that life doesn’t exist because life hurts no matter what and is meant to be felt; if we stay inside ourselves, then we’ll never accomplish our potential. I am certain that flying free means breaking out of our shells to thrive and take chances; and if we don’t decide to try we’ll remain trapped on the ground, always wondering, what if?

———–

My prison or my home? I shall,

Never know what these empty halls —

Are; if they contain friend or foe,

If they care about me, don’t know.

Married off to a stranger, not unkind, not cruel,

Not a friend, not yet a foe, stately and no one’s fool.

——-

Behind these walls, a sullen keep,

I’m kept, without sunlight’s relief.

My thoughts aren’t considered, nor my —

Opinions valued, I’m defied.

No special princess, just his highnesses wife kept,

Safe from the world, from experience, trapped, bereft.

——–

Where did childhood’s freedom go?

Where are the green fields, wild flowers?

I just want outside but then you’d,

Never find me again, I’d far go —

Back to my father, to a life of freedom glad,

My prison? Tigresses caged attack when mad.

Photo Challenge: Poem – Synchronocity – “Art Hell” #amwriting #poetry

Thanks to NEKNEERAJ of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting this week’s photo challenge.

——–

I’m a vivid monument,

I’m his lover cruelly tricked,

Just art.

——

Result of magic powerful,

A priest with such evil intent,

Wounds me.

—–

For I had thought the toxic paint,

That burned my skin would kill me,

I wished.

——-

I only pass out the priest laughs,

Eyes glinting, evil smile, tells me —

“Enjoy.”

—–

For this was my punishment,

Tempting our ‘leader’ with my love,

Trapped now.

—–

Not quite alive, not quite so dead,

My man, the leader, loves artwork,

He stares.

—–

I wonder if he recognizes,

A shadow of his beloved gone,

Each night.
—–

He comes with pain others cannot —

Ever see; I could’ve been his,

Soft place.

—–

Never can I speak, the priest’s curse,

Ensured silence, a spell took —

My voice.

—–

—–

I pray to God help me find —

My love jumps as my voice cries,

Returned.

——

Becomes aghast, furious,

He thinks me a dream I tell him,

The truth.

—-

Our stories, our love, a life —

We’d planned and he listens,

With tears.

—–

Then such rage summoning priest,

Who is forced to repair me from this,

Art hell.

——

I’m taken from between life and —

Death; restored to my former self,

I’m saved.

—–

My hero never gave up on —

Me; didn’t believe I ran, now

We’re us.

—-

Priest I have no knowledge of,

My guy, our leader was enraged,

Priest dead?

—-

Or suffering hell as I?

Two years in art trapped, lost;

Now free.

Tale Weavers: Poem – Alouette – “Entrapped” #taleweavers #poetry #amwriting

Thanks to Lorraine from MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting last week’s Tale Weaver prompt on having a dark side or the dark side of life.

——

” . . .Don’t get to close its dark inside. It’s where my demons hide, it’s where my demons hide” – “Demons” by Imagine Dragon

——-

They’re people we meet,

In them darkness keeps.

A veil over haunted eyes,

Something telling weighs,

Light badly betrays;

Shadows lift, they’re undisguised

—–

Putting on a face,

Something’s hidden; pace —

Steadily, you’re caught thinking.

Truth can be harmful,

Darkness it swarms.

Seeming ruse has us shrinking.

——

To start, talk awhile;

Some demons revile

Other darkness isn’t asked for it’s,

Unfairly gifted,

Souls broken, shifted;

Waiting for light at home lit.

——-

No one is so lost,

They can’t be reformed.

Shadows hold tightly, a hand —

Gives hope in the dark,

Heals bruising black marks.

Keep helping, say: “Here’s my hand.”

—–

Though darkness found can —

Be fearful, programmed,

In those with no conscience led;

Most people are sought,

It happens a lot;

We’re trapped in nightmares dread

—–

But the light of hope,

In dawn always glows

Derelict souls need help, change,

Is possible;

Not impossible.

Leave no one entrapped; estranged.
