Day 27 – NaPoWriMo/A to Z Challenge/SPF: Poem – Triolet – “Taste of Spring” #poetry #NaPoWriMo #AtoZChallenge #flashfiction

Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt is a “challenge . . . to write a poem that explores your sense of taste! This could be a poem about food, or wine, or even the oddly metallic sensation of a snowflake on your tongue.” Also thanks to Alistair Forbes for hosting Sunday Photo Fiction. For the A to Z Challenge, today’s GoodRead’s letter is the letter X.

“I could recognise his soul in mine as much as he could find me in his. Our sole existences seemed to have been for this very moment when nothing else mattered.” X. Williamson (Distract My Hunger)

They air outside was warm, the taste of spring sprung,

Lilacs on my lips, flavor of crisp leaves.

In the garden, scent of spring on my tongue.

The air outside was warm, the taste of spring sprung.

Inhaling soft florals, fragrance in my lungs.

Breathing in and out, tastes chase what I’m grieving.

The air outside was warm, the taste of spring sprung,

Lilacs on my lips, flavor of crisp leaves.

#OctPoWriMo – Day 25 –  Alouette – “Insatiable Red”

Day 25 Prompt: Red
“When I was growing up I extremely disliked the color red, not sure if the fact I had red hair had anything to do with it or not. It wasn’t until a few years back that I started to enjoy red and now I love it. I completely embrace red! How about you? Love it? Hate it? Don’t feel anything about it? I have always enjoyed big red barns though, I think it is because my great grandparents lived/owned/worked on their ranch with a big red barn and farmhouse. I loved having family gatherings out there.”

“Red” – Taylor Swift

Too bright hurts my eyes, 👀

Step-back, blinded by —

Red; the colour kindly few like.

Forceful, seductive, 💋

Not for reluctant.

It’s sunsets with the fall of leaves bright. 🌅

Maple trees red sigh,  🍁

And red eyes crying.  😭

Mighty power, red does lend.💰

Most sold lipstick —red; 👄

Classic colour said;

Cadillacs, Mercedes Benz.  🚗

Royal, wealth of land,  👑

Expensive dye’s hand —

Made scarlet; a king’s fine robes. 🔱

Privilege, money. 💰

Repulsive, funny,

Never liked, but on my toes. 👣

Women opt for red

Cooler; warmer red

Men’s own own chosen taste;  💪

Brilliant red, sexy; 💋

Elegant, regal, next. 👑

Amount changes, moods, tastes.

Trashy women in —

Sultry plastic.

Grace of love felt; most fav shoes. 👠 👗

Naughty and nice, 👍

Santa and Christmas; 🎄

Lights saying stop, you’ll lose.

Curious colour,

Loved or hated fleur.

Rose, hibiscus, poinsettias. 🌹

Different meanings,

Red fleurs, never seen; 🌹

Dancers doing flamenco. 💃🏼

For myself I think,

Preference for pink. 💗

A tint of red, more like me.

A bit of lipstick. 💄

If I must wear it.

Sport’s teams, and broken heart’s pleas. 💔

Lady Gaga Live – ” Angel Down”

I’m so thrilled with Lady Gage’s new album. I love her dance and pop-music stuff but her new songs, some of them go deep. This is one of those songs and I used the lyrics “Angel Down” for this poem. What I love is how in the video she is live, and sounds the same as if you were listening to her on her new album. Talented singer!

——–

She built her life, she built it strong, made it so —

It wouldn’t fall;but you can fortify —

The keep, make it so no one can slip in,

There are always cracks within perfection;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

——-

You can see the lines forming before she breaks,

Memories from the past she thought would save.

She’s safe –an illusion broken when the mirror —

Of life shatters within her face, she’s beat;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

——

Trapped in a birdcage, no song to sing,

Her tunes aren’t lucid and her wings are clipped,

Such dreams as a young woman, such glad times,

Now she’s angry, so frustrated — life’s a lie;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

——

Paints her makeup mask, hide the mirror’s blood tracks,

She thinks she’s imperfect tries to conceal —

New dress, she’s pretty, long legs on display yet,

She can’t hide feelings, she doesn’t fit in here;

Angel Down, Angel Down

—–

He said heels were stupid, girls can’t walk on —

Four-inch needles; yet they made her happy.

Night of the dance, stumbled; wore light blue chucks,

Sitting on the radio at the party crying;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

——

Years pass, another day spent sifting in,

Her see-through life, on clothing racks, she —

Attempts to find the perfect fit,  but she —

Knows like her, it’s elusive, can’t be found;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

——-

Music saves some, for others it magnifies

A hurt and hole inside her –can God even fill?

Remembering hideaways, experiences —

To fill the void within, smile with tears dripping;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

——-

Time in lavish living rooms, won’t make her,

Feel love she’s so denied; she can’t even —

Love her own body, isn’t what it was,

She fingers trinkets bought, fears with tears smear;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

—-

Jewel she thought would invoke good memories,

Fill her with hope and joy again; sharp pains of —

Her past; but now her wings have been pried off,

She’s a habiscus plucked and dying slow;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

—–

Packing suitcases, her body trembles,

She’s going on journey; her state of mind —

Broken; but she’s trying to heal and she —

Prays new memories, stop her rapid descent;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

—–

Please somebody, please help an Angel Down and —

Unlock her cage –the one she created,

Show her some love, let her taste freedom.

Be someone she can trust, so she won’t fade;

Angel Down, Angel Down

—–

Angel found her feet and flew,

Sailed above clouds anew;

The sun glints of her smile and–

She’s brand new bird who trills;

Angel Found,  Angel Found.

#OctPoWriMo – Day 7 – Rondel – “The Chocolate Death” #amwriting #poetry #chocolate

Day 7 Prompt: Tasty

“Free write for ten minutes around the word tasty, try some word association, where does it lead – To a memory as a child with the first bite to your favorite food? To a moment when you cooked your first meal? Dig deep and allow your words to flow.”

——–

Delicacies on my lips land,

Smoothly sumptuous ambrosia.

Chocolate soft inside so rich, not bland.

Sweet, dark sensuous aroma.

—-

Moist soft cake, creamy center grand.

Icing with cocoa, melts just so,

Delicacies on my lips land,

Smoothly sumptuous ambrosia.

—-

Chocolate intense taste I understand,

Crumbs of cake near mouth, eating slow.

One more bite, save for tomorrow,

Devoured, pleasure sweet, on hand.

Delicacies on my lips land.

Flash Fiction for the Purposeful Practitioner: Art in the Eye of the Beholder.

” So what do you think?” Paul asked his husband. “It’s a print of a famous painting and the ocean and sky is calm and relaxing. You don’t like it?”

Trevor looked at the print hung over their bed: “Paul, it’s a print. I think if you’re going to buy a copy of a painting, you should at least buy a copy which is actually painted. This is a poster, how much did you pay for it?” Paul smiled with strain.

“Oh, it was only a cheap print framed. Maybe, we can go find an actual painting soon. I only thought this was a serene piece of art perfect for a bedroom.” Paul said sounding hurt.

Trevor sighed deeply; he hated it when Paul made him feel guilty.

“The ocean and the sky are serene but we could go down Whyte Ave this week during Art Walk and find an original actual painting, while supporting local artists. I’m sure a peaceful ocean and sky will be a common theme.” Trevor remarked, trying to convince Paul’s high taste.

Paul grinned.”That sounds fantastic! There is this great restaurant where they have real Italian food on Whyte and…”

Trevor tuned Paul out and flicked on the TV opposite the ocean print. An NFL game was on; true art, Trevor thought with a grin.

Event, My Thoughts

A Sunny Evening at the Taste of Edmonton

A Taste of Edmonton 2009
A Taste of Edmonton 2009 (Photo credit: Michael Kwan (Freelancer))

It’s around 10:00 pm and I’ve just returned from The Taste of Edmonton a second time. It is one of my favorite events in Edmonton in the summer time, the mixed aroma of all that delicious food in the air makes me happy. It is food comfort. It is also a comfort people watching. All the families, couples, groups watching them enjoy the many foods available in appreciation; no matter their age, way of dressing, or otherwise; the love of food brings people together. I am sitting by the city hall fountain surrounded by children playing in the water and eating their treats; it is a picturesque place to wait for my friends to arrive but alas, I get hungry go and buy some more tickets and buy a piece of cheesecake from Spaghetti Factory. Cheesecake is one of my favorites and I look forward to it each Taste of Edmonton. Once my friends arrive, we go in search of our favorite dishes, new and old. I point out some of my favorites from yesterday’s lunch: pineapple chicken and beef dumplings.
My friends choose some different desserts and menu items and I settle on Tirimisue for my final dish. It is so yummy. Then all three of us Tiana, Tara, and I save our remaining tickets for sangria and white and red wine. We settle down into some good conversation – wedding gossip, things we have been up to, just generally whatever. It has been a good night. The sun is sinking an interesting vocalist is singing old rock and roll hits from the 80 ‘s and 90’s. Holding 3 glasses of sangria I almost lose some I think. The crowd of people still walk and eat on the giant pad of cement that was once green grass and picnic tables. But it is a good time. I am happy to see my good friends; happy to be. It is the perfect temperature outside and comfortable inside the alcohol tasting tents. All too soon it is time to go home and I am left with the memory of one of those perfect summer nights where all seems well and the world stands still if only for a moment or a glass of sangria.
