Beauty Haul Fall/Winter 2017: Part Two – Makeup Products Galore #Beauty #Sephora #MakeUp

Goodmorning, welcome to PART II of my Fall/Winter Beauty Haul Series. I usually do Beauty Haul’s quarterly (I missed summer) so I have many new things to rate and show you for Fall and Winter, although some of the products I used in spring and summer.

Credit: Sites.psu.edu

Also, some of the products are ones I have bought while some of them are larger samples I have received through Sephora or through Luxebox. The makeup I buy and spend more money on, I do use up unless the product is absolutely horrible and usually, you can tell this right away and can return the product.

Anyways here’s PART TWO below. To read Part One on IT Cosmetics Products, you can read that in the given link.

1. Urban Decay Naked Skin Ultra Definition Liquid Foundation – (0.5 -Very Fair Porcelain Shade, Pink Undertones) – http://www.sephora.ca – $49.00 CAN

For this Urban Decay foundation, the Ultra Definition Liquid Foundation, I was not at all impressed. If you’re looking for an excellent Urban Decay foundation, the All Nighter Foundation is so much better! However, for those of who want a light foundation that’s buildable and has properties of optical blurring, so your face looks natural but free of blemishes (etc.) in photographs, this might be the foundation for you.

Urban Decay Naked Skin Weightless
Credit: Sephora.ca – Urban Decay Ultra Definition Naked Weightless Foundation – $49.00 CAN

You can build this foundation up and it appears decent but I didn’t find it had much coverage at all even after a couple of layers. My IT Cosmetics CC + Cream has better coverage. I also didn’t like that this foundation was a different color than the All Nighter Foundation even though it’s the same shade of 0.5. This Weightless foundation has yellow undertones and the next shade was too dark for me, even with pink undertones.

As well, this foundation is extremely liquid and I prefer one with a bit more of a gel or cream texture, not extremely heavy, but not running off the top your hand where you might apply the foundation from. Stick to the All Nighter foundation for Urban Decay and I do believe they also carry a medium-coverage one now that I haven’t tried. You can also find a better light coverage foundation in many brands so don’t invest your money in this one. I’m mixing it with my CC + Cream simply to use it up and not waste the fifty dollars. I’d give this foundation 2/5 stars.

2. Buxom Full-On Lip Cream – (Julep) – Sephora.ca – (0.14 oz/4.45 ml) – $24.00 CAN

Buxom Full on Lip Cream in Rose Julop Sephora
Buxom Full-on Lip Cream in Rose Julep – Sephora.ca – $25.00 CAN

Initially, I received a sample of this Buxom Full-On Lip Cream from Sephora and I absolutely loved it and wore it every day. It’s free of Parabens, Sulphates, and Phthalates and is full of moisturizing “hyaluronic (HA) spheres” which are acids that keep your skin looking youthful. These HA spheres “infuse lips with luscious moisture while vitamins A and E keep lips soft, sexy, and protected” and you can find this lip cream in fourteen bright, but not overpowering shades.

I’m a huge fan of this Buxom lip product, especially in the shade I received, Julep, which is a natural lip shade and made my lips red-peachy/pink, but didn’t look as if I was wearing a ton of lip product.

My only complaint is that you do have to apply this lip cream often as it wears off easily. But the flavor is pleasant and the lip cream so hydrating that it doesn’t diminish the value of the product a great deal me. I’d give it 4/5 stars.

3. NYX Dewy Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray – NYXcostmetics.ca – $10.00 CAN

NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray NYX Canda
NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray – NYXcosmetics.ca – $10.00 CAN

I used to use the NYX Matte setting spray so I decided to try their Dewy Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray so my makeup appeared more light and fresh for every day. Having radiant skin has also been a recent makeup trend, especially in summer and early fall. I love this NYX Setting spray and rarely use the matte spray now as my skin is not as oily as it used to be. I would say my skin is a great deal more dry than oily now.

Also, this setting spray is perfect and as good the Urban Decay original setting sprays. I buy the NYX Dewy at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada and it costs $11.99 full price, but I can usually get it for $8.99 CAN on-sale. As you can see the price online is right in-between.

I’m so impressed with the NYX setting sprays. They are professional quality, in my opinion, and have virtually eliminated the need for me to watch that my makeup doesn’t run when I sweat a bit. It also doesn’t rub off on coats or on others when I’m giving them a hug. For that reason, it’s an awesome product alone.

You can apply the Dewy setting spray lightly or more if you’re out all night. I never find the spray dries out my skin. It also helps keep your makeup looking amazing all day and is still flexible enough that you can touch up your blush or under your eyes, if needed at the end of the day. I’d give it 5/5 stars.

4. Benefit Roller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara – Sephora.ca – (0.30 oz/8.5 g) – $31.00 CAN

So many bloggers and beauty experts have raved about this mascara, The Benefit Roller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara, and I wanted to try it for myself. Luckily, I’ve received about three mini-sized samples of it since summer and this mascara goes a long way, especially if you’re using it with other mascaras. It doesn’t come in a waterproof formula, which is its only downside, but I don’t mind because this mascara works to lengthen and curl your lashes; it’s not for volume.

Benefit Cosmetics Ruller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara
Credit:Sephora.ca – Benefit Roller Lash Curling & Lifting Mascara (Black or Brown) – $31.00

This means, I can use it with any waterproof volumizing mascara I like. I love the Roller Lash mascara wand as it actually does cause your eyelashes to curl up and it is also useful in coating every single lash you have, even the small ones in the corners of your eyes.

You can wear it alone for a more natural eyelash look and it comes in black and brown. Or, like me, you can use it with another mascara, or two, to create your perfect long and volumized lash look.

My current favorite, for a long time has been Clinique’s High Impact Waterproof Mascara, which also is a jewel of a mascara and creates loads of volume while being waterproof. Otherwise, regular mascara comes off onto my under eye areas.

I would purchase a tube of Roller Lash mascara and think the price-point is in keeping with the Benefit brand and not too expensive for a mascara. I would give it 4/5 stars, only because I think they need to introduce it in a waterproof version for days people would like a more natural lash look but don’t want it all over their under eye area.

5. Tarte: Tarteist PRO-Glow Liquid Highlighter – Sephora.ca – (0.56 oz/15.9 g) – (Exposed – Nude Highlight) – $36.00 CAN

I’m a huge fan of Tarte makeup, their products are Vegan, mineral, good for you skin, for the environment, and cruelty-free. They also have excellent pigment. I received a large sample of this highlighter with a Sephora purchase and I love it. I’m not usually a huge fan of cream highlighters as for me, they fade quickly.

Tarteist PRO-Glow Liquid Highlighter in Exposed Sephora
Credit: Sephora.ca – Tate: Tarteist PRO-Glow Liquid Highlighter in Exposed – Nude Highlight – $36.00 CAN

Tarteist PRO-Glow in Exposed had good lasting coverage and you can put a bit of highlighting powder overtop of it to make it last and to enhance the highlighter. As well, I loved it during summer as the shade Exposed was light and subtle and perfect for a peachy barely-there makeup look. A little of this product goes a long way as it does wear off after a few hours, but compared to many liquid highlighters it’s longlasting and is truly beautiful on your skin.

I liked the shade I had a lot but you can also buy it in the shades Sparkle -Rose Gold and Opalescent. Tarte only had the one shade available all summer so it would be fun to try the other shades as well.

Plus, if you put setting spray over this, it does make this Tarte cream highlighter last longer. And again, I did think for the type of product and its longevity, that it was worth what you would pay for it. I would give it 5/5 stars.

6. Benefit Dandelion Dew Baby Pink Liquid Blush – Sephora.ca – (1 oz) – $38.00 CAN

I had gotten a special Sephora promo code in the summer and the box was full of large samples of Dandelion Benefit products, along with the Roller Lash Mascara. My favorite product other than the mascara was the Dandelion Dew Baby Pink Liquid Blush.

Benefit Dandelion Dew Baby-Pink Liquid Blush
Credit: Sephora.com – Benefit Dandelion Dew Baby-Pink Liquid Blush – $38.00 CAN

Benefit has always led the way in liquid blushes, but this is better than their cheek and lip stains as it’s creamier. Also, it’s a great product to use for a natural makeup look, in summer or on vacation, as it gives your cheeks a natural but visible flush. Also, the liquid isn’t too heavy. It’s also peachy-pink enough to suit many skin tones and has “radiance” so it gives your cheeks a nice dewy finish.

Moreover, if your skin is oilier it’s not a heavy product so it’s not going to make you break-out. I’ve found most Benefit products are excellent for those who have skin problems and for anyone else.

I love love this blush but will wait until spring and summer to purchase a full bottle, as I’m more likely to use it then. The powder is also available it’s called Dandelion Box o’Powder Blush and I did have a sample of it. It’s not great to wear alone but can enhance how long the liquid blush lasts. Also, you can buy the Dandelion Twinkle Highlighter, which is nice for a subtle highlighting powder.

You do have to put a decent amount product on to be able to see the liquid blush on your skin but not a great deal. A large sample lasted me almost two months so I think a regular-sized bottle would last half a year or a bit less. If you like natural looking makeup all year long, this is the liquid blush to purchase. I would give this product 4.5/5 stars, I loved it!

7. Urban Decay Brow Tamer Flexible Hold Tinted Brow Gel – Sephora.ca – (0.15 oz/ 4.44 ml) – (Neutral Brown) – $24.00 CAN

I don’t love this Urban Decay Brow Tamer Tinted Brow Gel, but I don’t hate it. It’s not as good as the tinted brow gel from Benefit, but apparently, they had an issue and had to pull all of that particular brow gel from the shelves due to allergic reactions from customers. A girl from Sephora told me this a few weeks ago. So, when I ordered Brow Tamer online in early-November, I couldn’t find many brow gels on Sephora as most of them were sold out after their 20 percent off sale.

Urban Decay Brow Tamer Flexible Hold Tinted Brow Gel
Credit: Sephora.com – Urban Decay Brow Tamer Flexible Hold Tinted Brow Gel – (Neutral Brown) – $24.00 CAN

This was about one of the only tinted brow gels left and I like it but I wouldn’t repurchase it. For a neutral brown, the brown I chose is too red for my hair and skin tone. It’s not bad if I mix it with an ashy brow pencil, but alone it’s not good. As well, the lighter shade called Taupe, which is ashier, was too light for my brows as even though I’m blue-eyed and blond with fair skin, my brows have always been darker.

The wand was nice for applying the Brow Tamer gel and it’s lasted about two and half months now which is great for a brow gel. I would recommend you try this but ensure you find the right shade in-store first as sometimes the colors online don’t match up exactly with the ones in-store. They can look quite different in person.

I would give this brow gel 3.5/5 stars and I’m going to use it all as it’s a good product and priced well compared to other brow gels. However, it didn’t give me the volumizing effect of the Benefit BROWtones Instant Color Highlights, which are available again on Sephora but not in my shade of light ash or ash brown. Perhaps, Benefit changed this product? I’m not sure.

8. Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector, Pressed Highlighter – Sephora.ca – (0.28 oz/8.5 ml) – (Champagne Pop) – $46.00 CAN (full-sized)

The Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector in Champagne Pop was a product I bought in summer as a treat and loved it. I only bought a mini and it lasted me three months. Sephora doesn’t have Champagne Pop in the mini-size right now but they do have the full-size which is a better value for your money — in most cases.

I loved this color, it’s a “soft white gold with pink-peach undertones” that can be used as a highlighter and as an eyeshadow. I love it because the pigment is awesome and it was a beautiful color to wear for a nude or natural look. I enjoyed the shimmer and glossiness of the Becca highlighter and can’t recommend it enough. I would like to try some other Becca highlighter shades in the future.

Becca Shimmering Skin Pefector Pressed Highlighter in Champagne Pop
Credit: Sephora.ca – Becca Shimmer Skin Perfector, Pressed Highlighter in Champagne Pop – $46.00 CAN

I should note that I went in-store and tried out tens of highlighters in the summer, attempting to find the perfect peachy color for me and Champagne Pop was it. I bought it online (it was out-of-stock in-store) and was so happy with the purchase.

Again, if your unsure about a Becca highlighter color, visit Sephora in-store first and try out the colors in store. I prefer buying online because of the greater range of sample makeup and skin care products available and because of the coupon codes I receive by email for larger samples. Becca highlighters are amazing stuff, and perfect for a non-heavy and dewy makeup look.

For the large-size, or even the smaller-size, it’s not a cheap highlighter but when I was trying out all these highlighters in Sephora I found that often, the more expensive highlighters had much better pigment. They also lasted a great deal longer on your face throughout the day. I would give it 4.5./5 stars as it is still a tad expensive, even though the pigment is excellent.

STAY TUNED for PART III. I Promise, it won’t take as long as PART II did!!

Beauty Fall/Winter 2017: Part One – IT Cosmetics Haul #beauty #amwriting

Wow, has it been a long time since I have been able to do a beauty post. I think back in Spring I did one, but this is the first time since then that I have had the opportunity to tell you about some of my more recent beauty finds. This will at least be a three part series so, enjoy and let me know what you think of some the products. Have you tried any of them? What did you think?

1. IT Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50 + (In Fair) – (www.sephora.ca) – $49.00 CAN

My wear all the time foundation for the last couple of years was an excellent Urban Decay Foundation called “All Nighter,” but I purchased this Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream from IT Cosmetics, as soon as the brand became available in Canada in spring. I had read from countless beauty bloggers with a similar fair skin, hat they loved this CC + cream both for its anti-aging benefits and because it functioned as a matte foundation.

Credit: Sephora. ca – IT Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better CC+Cream with SPF 50 + UVB/UVA Ray protection – $49.00 CAN (Matte Coverage).

Moreover, when I purchased this CC+ Cream with some other IT Cosmetics loot, I was extremely pleased with their products. The original CC+ Cream works well, providing the full coverage of a foundation. However, it also has moisturizer and anti-aging ingredients plastic surgeons and dermatologists use in their cosmetic skin treatments. For me, the moisturizer and anti-aging products were a plus as the last couple of years my skin has tended to be more normal and less oily. Since my skin is drier, and the extra moisturizer keeps my skin hydrated. I loved that the product had such a high SPF of 50+ as I burn easily and protecting your face from sun damage and future wrinkles is essential in the summer and all year round.

As well, for those of you who do not know the difference between a foundation, a CC cream, and BB Cream I’ll define those briefly. Foundation is extra coverage on your face to make your skin appear flawless and have an even skin tone. It can come in a cream, liquid, stick or in other version but it does not have extra moisturizer or anti-aging benefits. A BB Cream, however, ss essentially a moisturizer with light coverage and a CC cream has anti-aging products, moisturizer, and buildable or full coverage similar to the coverage of light to medium coverage foundation.

This specific CC+ Cream by IT Cosmetics, is one of the best CC + Creams I’ve ever used and it superior to many foundations, providing full matte coverage that stays most of the day. The product descriptions notes that along with having SPF 50 + UVA/UVB rays, the CC+ Cream works to “clinically increase hydration,” give skin a”smooth[er] texture, and enhance [skin] brightness.” As advertised, I have never found this CC + Cream to crack or crease and its great at hiding imperfections.

As well, the matte CC+ Cream from IT Cosmetics is anti-aging and the ingredients in the product include “hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacin, hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and antioxidants” that diminish ” wrinkles” and the size of pores.

If you wear makeup almost every day, a tube of matte CC+ Cream from IT Cosmetics lasts three months and feels lighter than my Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation which I save for when I’m going out and wearing my makeup for 18 to 20 hours. This CC+ Cream is a light feeling makeup for in the day and I definitely recommend it. Its price is also comparable in price to most foundations and the benefits of anti-aging ingredients, make thee CC+ creams one of my new favorites for almost every occasion. I give it 5/5 stars!

2. IT Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better CC+ Illumination Cream with SPF 50 + (In Fair) – http://www.sephora.ca – $49.00 CAN

The second time I ordered the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Illumination Cream I noticed they had a new version of the CC + Cream out so I decided to try it as it promised full coverage but with a “radiant finish.” I was as happy with this CC+ Cream as the one above, it still had great anti-aging ingredients such as Collagen and Hyaluronic acid which are essential to your skin staying youthful. However, I also liked that the Illumination formula felt a tad lighter on my skin.

IT Cosmetics - Your Skin But Better CC Illumination Cream
Sephora.ca – IT Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better C+ Illuminating Cream SPF 50 + UVA/UVB Protection (Radiant Finish) – $49.00 CAN

I don’t notice that is less matte than the original CC+ Cream or that it shows more glowiness or radiance. However, comparing the two together the first CC+ cream is actually a bit heavier in coverage while this one feels a bit more natural and mixes better with a liquid highlighter cream. The original CC+ Cream doesn’t mix well with liquid highlighters and tends to remain quite matte. However, to get that ‘radiant’ finish a person does have to add their favorite liquid highlighter. Tarte has a great one if you’re interested, check it out HERE.

I have continued using this CC+ Illuminating Cream into Fall and Winter, for the lighter feel and finish of the CC+ Cream compared to the initial CC+ Cream. I ordered it a third time this month and like the original cream, it lasts about three months.

Especially now that its winter, I notice I need the extra moisturizer and after a few months of using both CC+ Creams I do notice my skin is smoother and feels nicer. Also, if you are worried about breaking out I hardly break out with either CC+ Cream and when I attempted to switch back just to a light coverage foundation, it wasn’t comparable to either the illuminating or original CC + Creams not having the moisture or extra anti-aging products.

I have the  color fair in either CC+ Cream and its perfect for my pale skin but the product can be applied lightly enough so that if you were going on vacation somewhere hot and needed good coverage with the  SPF  50+ and UVA/UVB protection, you could use a darker shade of the CC+ cream or add a few drops of a darker foundation to the product. I give the Illumination CC+ Cream 4/5 stars only because I was expecting more luminance from it.

3. IT Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better CC + Airbrush Perfecting Powder SPF 50+ (www.sephora.ca) – $45.00 CAN

When I had oilier skin I went through powder almost as often as I used foundation and I had never found a product comparable to Clinique’s Almost Powder Makeup until I used this Perfecting Powder from It Cosmetics. One of my favorite things about the powder in summer was that the packaging is designed so that sponge has a little place beneath the powder compact so no germs or bacteria end up in the powder.

Also, I used the color fair which was perfect for me. It gave me coverage where I needed, say when using concealer beneath my eyes or over a concealed blemish.

IT Cosmetics - Your Skin But Better CC Airbrush Perfecting Poweder
Credit; Sephora.ca – IT Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better Airbrush Perfecting Powder SPF 50 + – $45.00 CAN

I do put a bit of powder on my skin for contouring and in only in certain areas of my currently normal skin type. When it was warmer, I put the powder where it might be oilier or where my makeup might fade. Now, I simply use a small powder brush to set concealer under my eyes, on my forehead, chin, and under my contour and blush and it lasts me the entire day.

Also, I love that powder feels light and but has excellent coverage. Again, in a warmer place where you tan, a darker powder would work to keep your face more matte. I liked this powder better than the illuminating powder for its coverage in areas a person needs.

My current compact, purchased in spring, has lasted almost a good six months. I’m only now getting down to the bottom of the package which I bought in early spring. IT Cosmetics also has a colorless powder if you don’t like the skin toned powder and don’t need it. As well, if you use the powder all over your face with one of the CC+ Cream it improves the coverage of your makeup a great deal

As well, the powder is made with “skin-loving Drops of Light Technology” that “transform” the appearance of your skin with “optical-blurring pigments that visually camouflage pores, dark spots, and fine lines.” When I put this powder on certain areas or if you put it on your whole face, it most definitely makes your skin appear “soft, flawless, and luminous” as advertised on Sephora.ca.

Moreover, the Air Brush Perfecting Powder’s anti-aging ingredients include “hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacin, and silk,” and the coverage of the powder is buildable. I do not have many lines or any wrinkles yet but the product also claims not to settle into lines or wrinkles which is always a bonus.

This is my new favorite powder and comparable in price to my old Clinique Almost Powder makeup as it lasts longer. It also feels lighter on my skin and my skin still feels soft when wearing it. A 5/5 star product for sure!

4. IT Cosmetics – Ombre Radiance Bronzer – http://www.sephora.ca – $44.00 CAN

My first impressions after ordering this Ombre Radiance Bronzer mid-summer was that the Bronze color would be too dark for me even though its a bronzer for most skin tones. I’m quite pale so something too orangy or dark looks ake on my skin especially for bronzing or for contouring.

IT Cosmetics - Ombre Radiance Bronzer
Credit: Sephora.ca – IT Cosmetics -Ombre Radiance Bronzer – $44.00 CAN

However, what I loved about this product as I used it was that it was ombre so that I could essentially mix the bronzer so I used about a medium shade of the ombre on my skin for contouring and the lighter more radiant end for bronzing. If I wanted a look not too matte but a little glowy, I could also mix the light bronzer and the dark bronzer together. Overall the ombre bronzer works well and is a good concept for a bronzer. However, having fair skin I have to be careful not to use the dark and matte end of the bronzer alone.

I liked that the bronzer was big in size for blending in the palette and I also felt like I was receiving my money’s worth. Nevertheless, the cover is similar to a clear bubble and is difficult to put away with other makeup as it sticks up and doesn’t lie flat.

Overall I think the IT Cosmetics Ombre Radiance Bronzer excellent product with 3.5/5 stars. I do think there should be two shades of this bronzer, one for skin with blue or pink tones (and less orange) and one for skin tones that are warmer. It would make it a more effective product for all women. As well, the packaging could be changed to make it easier to store.

5. IT Cosmetics – Brow Power  – Universal Brow Pencil (Universal Taupe) – http://www.sephora.ca – $32.00 CAN

IT Cosmetics - Brow Pow - Universal Brow Pencil
Credit: http://www.sephora.ca – IT Cosmetics – Brow Pow Universal Brow Pencil – $32.00 CAN

This Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil is absolutely one of my favorite brow pencils that I have ever used. It’s not quite a pencil that you sharpen but a thicker brow pencil turning out of the penciled cover with an “ovalled tip.” The pencil is easy to apply to shape brows and to fill in sparse eyebrows.

As brows are a huge makeup trend right now, finding your perfect brow pencil is difficult. However, this pencil is wonderful for many skin tones unless your eyebrows are black or have a warmer tone such as those women who are redheads or have more red in their natural hair color.

As well, if your brows are on the lighter side, you can apply less of the brow pencil. For instance, you can use it to shape your brows and then take the spoolie at the end of the pencil and brush through your brows, using the outside pencil shaping to fill in your naturally lighter toned brows. However, if your eyebrows are naturally a little darker such as mine, you can outline your brows and fill them in a little in the middle, for a more natural looking brow with a bit more definition.

Also, if you wanted a full-on brow look, shaping and filling in your brows with the pencil all over, will give you this bold look.  Moreover, it is my opinion that a brow gel such as Benefit’s Volumizing Brow Gel gives your brow hairs a more defined look and more volume with the Benefit Brow Gel or a similar product. You can also use less brow pencil inside your brows when using a volumizing brow gel.

IT Cosmetics writes that their Universal brow pencil is infused with “proprietary Brow Power™ Technology and brow-enhancing ingredients.” These include ingredients such as “biotin, saw palmetto, and antioxidants.” The “oval tip” of the pencil is also meant to “mimic” the “look of real hair” and the formula of the pencil is “budge-proof” and long-lasting.

My only thought was that a person who has a warmer skin tone might need a brow pencil that is a warmer brown and not a cool taupe. For me the Brow Power IT Cosmetics brow pencil is perfect and I would give it 5/5 stars.

It also lasts a bit over 2 months which is excellent for a quality brow pencil and the price is comparable to say the Anastasia Brow Definer or Benefit Goof Proof Easy Shape and Fill Brow Pencil which tends to be around $30.00 but come in more shades.

6. IT Cosmetics – Vitality Lip Flush Hydrating Lip Gloss Soft Stain – High Shine Finish – (Color: Je Ne Sais Quoi) – http://www.sephora.ca – $25.00 CAN

If you’re like me, you might not be a big lipstick person. Partly because you choose not to focus on your lips in your makeup routine, or partly because you want a more natural lip color that moisturizes and stays on your lips. Although this Vitality Lip Flush is a neat product as it alters lip color to your natural PH level, and your best pink lip color, it’s only moisturizing when you have it on your lips.

IT Cosmetics - Hydrating Lipstick
Credit: Sephora.ca – IT Cosmetics Hydrating Lip Gloss Soft Stain with High Shine Finish – $25.00 CAN

It is not long lasting and once it wears off your lips, they tend to feel dried out even though this lip product is supposed to hydrate well. The Lip Flush appears beautiful when you have it on but it needs to be re-applied every half hour or so. It’s also anti-aging and creates a “pink stain” on your lips which looks pretty, natural, glossy, and healthy.

The product is created with IT Cosmetics’s “Hydra-Luxe™ technology” with ingredients such as “plum oil, cherry oil, shea butter, aloe, and jojoba” that are all supposed to “hydrate, condition, and nourish” your lips. For me, I didn’t like how my lips felt when the product had worn off.

On the upside, it is a great product for all skin tones as it adapts to your perfect pink lip color. It’s not a bad product and I do think its benefits outweigh its ‘cons’ so I would give the product 3 /5 stars as its extremely versatile and moisturizing for the time it remains on your lips.

See You For Part Two of My Fall/Winter 2017 Beauty Haul!!

Part 1: February to May Beauty Haul 2016 – For Eyes #everydayinspiration

Happy May Long Weekend! I haven’t had a beauty post in a long while.

These products I’ve picked up are from February to the present month of May. I didn’t necessarily buy all these products at Sephora, but it is  easier to search for them all on the Sephora website. As I’ve mentioned, I often buy some of my makeup and skincare at Shoppers Drug Mart or at Beauty Boutique Online, but they do not always carry all the products and brands I use.

This is Part 1 of a beauty haul. I have a second part coming soon with products unrelated to the eyes. Also, a note, I’m using this post to fulfill a Writing 101 prompt to critique something; I’m certainly critiquing these eye makeup products and tools.

1. NARS – Dual Intensity Eye Shadow in Andromeda – (www.sephora.ca) – $33.00 CAN

Beauty - NARS Dual Intensity Eyeshadow in Andromeda 33.00
NARS Dual Intensity Eye Shadow in Andromeda -Colour appears less pink than it is. (www.sephora.ca)

I’m fond of NARS blushes and eye shadows because they have fantastic colour pigment. Years ago, I had bought a NARS palette with eye shadows and blush included, but I have never used NARS eyeshadow since I used up that pallete. I was searching for a lighter coloured eyeshadow with a bit of sparkle and shine to it when I saw this NARS shadow at Sephora. The colour Andromeda is perfect for highlighting your brow bone or the corner of your eye. It also is a beautiful colour to wear all over your eyelid if you are looking for a colour to make your eyes pop. Darker colours can make eyes appear smaller (even though darker shadow look lovely in an ombre or smokey eye). Another reason I like Andromeda is because in other eyeshadow palettes I’ve purchased, I always run out of the lightest colours first. My skin is pale so extremely dark colours don’t often suit me unless I’m going out at night but even then, I can only use a bit for effect. For the most part, a medium intensity or lighter coloured eye shadow suits me in the daytime and those of you who have lighter skin tones. I’m able to use Andromeda with my palettes to replace the lighter colours I use up quickly. There are many more gorgeous colours of NARS eyeshadow available at Sephora and I recommend NARS eyeshadow for their quality of pigment and variety of colour.

2. Make Up Forever – Smoky Extravagent Mascara: Dramatic Impact and Graphic Precision – (www.sephora.ca) – $30.00 CAN

I received this mascara as a sample from Sephora.  It is an excellent mascara due

Beauty - MAKE UP FOREVER - Smoky Extravagent Mascara
Make Up Forever – Smokey Extravagant Mascara: Dramatic Impact and Graphic Precision (www.sephora.ca)

to its wonderful volumizing brush. The shape of the brush is extremely wide at the bottom of the mascara wand and tiny at the top. This means you receive major volume where your lashes need volume in the middle of your eyelashes, but the wand still picks up the tiny lashes in the outer corners of your eyes. I’m extremely pleased with this mascara.

Using the product, I’ve had to use a waterproof mascara over top (as usual) as regular mascara tends to streak around my eyes due to my oilier skin. With the waterproof mascara over top the Smokey Extravagant Mascara, the product stays on well. On Sephora’s website, however; I found a waterproof version of the Smokey Extravagant mascara called Aqua Smokey Extravagant Water Proof Mascara. The price is exactly the same, so if  I bought this mascara in the future I would buy the waterproof version. Using the regular mascara or the waterproof version, Smokey Extravagant is a fantastic mascara, one of the best mascaras I’ve used in a long time. The brush on the mascara wand makes such a huge difference when you apply mascara, not to mention a mascara formula which doesn’t become clumpy over time.

3. Tarte – Lights, Camera, Lashes 4 in 1 Mascara – (www.sephora.ca) – $25.00 CAN

Beauty - TARTE - Lights, Camera, Lashes 4 in 1 Mascara
Tarte Lights, Camera, Lashes 4 in 1 Mascara (www.sephora.ca)

I received this mascara as a sample from Tarte when I ordered off their website. It is a great mascara. The brush is designed so it picks up every lash and I know many people who rave about this mascara. There is also a waterproof version available on Sephora called Lights, Camera, Splashes, for the exact same price. I was pleased how the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara wand picked up every one of my lashes coating them with mascara. I would have said it was the most awesome mascara, before I tried the Make Up Forever mascara above. The issue is, sometimes mascara wands which pick-up every tiny lash, fail to create volume in your eyelashes where you need it. The mascara itself appeared to be a great formula but I think the Lights, Camera, Lashes brush needs a bit of work. I believe it is an excellent mascara and I would use a sample again if I received it, but after using the Make Up Forever Smoky Extravagant mascara, I think the Tarte mascara doesn’t quite measure up .On the upside, Tarte products are made from natural minerals and are a Vegan makeup line so if you’re looking for these aspects and want makeup that is of excellent quality, Tarte is the brand to use. As well, a five dollars difference in price between the two mascaras maybe a deal breaker for some of you.

4. Stila – Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black and Midnight Blue – (www.sephora.ca) – $29.00 CAN

Months ago, I was searching for a

Beauty - STILA - Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black
Stila – Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner – Intense Black (www.sephora.ca)

waterproof liquid eyeliner to replace my Lancome liner, which changed after many years. I had used the non-waterproof version of the Stila liquid eyeliners and was not impressed. I was hesitant to try the waterproof version, but after seeing how intense the black eyeliner was on my hand, I decide to give the black eyeliner a try. It has become my new go-to for black eyeliner. The felt tip is pointy so you can give yourself a thinner line or build it up to be a thicker line. The Intense Black liner has lasted me four-months and is going strong.

Recently, I have seen a trend in magazines, of blue eyeliner with a paired down eye of basic eyeshadow.  I went and I purchased the same Stila liner I have

Beauty - STILA - Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Midnight Blue
Stila – Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner – Midnight Blue (www.sephora.ca)

in the colour Midnight Blue. I probably chose a darker blue than they showed in the magazine, but I’m extremely happy with this Midnight blue liner and have been wearing it everyday since I bought it. It’s dark enough that it doesn’t make your eyeliner completely standout, but the Midnight blue is change enough you notice it isn’t black liner. The colour goes well with blue eyes and I imagine it would appear beautiful on people with  brown eyes, as it is an opposite colour for brown eyes in makeup. I believe these Stila liquid eyeliners are a fantastic investment for eyeliner, whatever the colour(s) you choose. Sephora has other colour options available as well. Also, the waterproof liquid liner stays on your lash line well and works well for giving yourself a cat-eye flick. You are able to wipe a bit of liner away if you’ve messed up your line, as long as you do it immediately after applying. If you’ve waited too long, you can take some concealer on a Q-tip and gently make some of your eyeliner fade and disappear where you messed up.

For those of you who have trouble with eyeliner, especially liquid eyeliner. Here is a helpful YouTube Tutorial I found on Basic Eyeliner this morning:

5. Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion in Minor Sin – (www.sephora.ca) – $26.00 CAN

I have used various versions of Urban Decay eye shadow primer for years. Their

Beauty - URBAN DECAY - Eyeshadow Primer Potion in Minor Sin
Urban Decay – Eye Shadow Primer Potion – Minor Sin (www.sephora.ca

primers for eye shadow are the absolute best and help your eyeshadow stay put on your eyelid, without your eye shadow fading. I usually use Urban Decay’s basic primer but I chose to buy Minor Sin this time as it has a bit of a shimmery golden sheen to it and can be worn without eye shadow. Layering eye shadow over Minor Sin, also gives your eye shadow a slight sheen underneath, if you don’t apply too much shadow over top. Urban Decay eye shadow primers also last a long time. I usually receive over six-months use out of a large tube.

The only issue I have with  Minor Sin is I do not like  that its tube is not a squeeze tube such as my Urban Decay eye shadow primers have been in the past. Minor Sin comes with a brush and I don’t like the brush. I don’t believe it is as sanitary as a squeeze tube. You shouldn’t place the primer directly on your eyelid/eye area with the brush because bacteria could get into the tube once you put the brush back in. I think the best idea is to put some of the primer on the back of your hand and use your fingers to apply it to your eyes, however; I do not like this method either because it is easy to waste the product accidentally applying too much product to the back of your hand. The squeeze tube was both more sanitary and made the primer last longer as you only used as much primer as needed with the squeeze tube. I love how Minor Sin looks and works as a primer, but I’m not happy with the design change of the tube and brush.

6. Sephora – Must Have Powder Eye Shadow Brush #60 – (www.sephora.ca) – $19.00 CAN

Beauty - SEPHORA - Must Have Powder Shadow Brush - 60
Sephora – Must Have Powder Shadow Brush #60 (www.sephora.ca)

My last fluffy eye shadow brush I bought was from Shoppers Drug Mart and I still have it and use it. But Shoppers Drug Mart didn’t have the same brush available so I went to Sephora, whose brushes I have found to be better than Shoppers Drug Mart brand makeup brushes anyways. I didn’t choose Sephora’s top of the line brushes as I have with some of my makeup brushes such a foundation brush or a blush brush. I do not find it necessary to have top quality makeup brushes with eyeshadow brushes, which don’t go through the wear and tear other brushes do. I wanted another fluffier powder brush to blend eyeshadow above my lid and this brush works perfectly for the job. It’s not as fluffy as the Shoppers Drug Mart brush but it it is good enough and washes up well with dish soap. No hairs have fallen out of the brush so I believe for the price point and design, the brush is excellent.

7. Sephora – Crease Eye Shadow Brush #73 – (www.sephora.ca) – $20.00 CAN

Much of what I said with the last eyeshadow brush applies with this crease eye shadow

Beauty - SEPHORA - Crease Eyeshadow Brush- 73
Sephora – Crease Eye Shadow Brush #73 (www.sephora.ca)

brush. The crease eye shadow brush is used to blend a darker shade of eyeshadow into your crease area. I have and use my first crease eyeshadow brush from Shoppers Drug Mart and I like it better than the one I bought at Sephora.

Although, the Sephora brush is nice and the hair doesn’t fall out when you wash it, the brush is a bit big and fluffy for blending eye shadow in one’s eye crease. It works, but it is easy to accidentally apply too much eye shadow in your crease with this brush. But for my purposes, this brush is fine. I use it to go in after I have used my original Shoppers Drug Mart crease brush, and blend all the eye makeup in my crease together. The reason I bought both brushes was for blending purposes and not to actually apply eyeshadow, although; I will probably use the brushes for both jobs. I’m happy with both brushes, but wish the crease eye shadow brush was smaller and less fluffy. For the price point and quality, they are both excellent brushes.

Thanks for reading. Stay tuned for Part 2.

Beauty: Tartelette in Bloom Palette – Two Looks.

Tartelette in Bloom Palette (Amanda Eifert)

——–
I have a love/hate relationship with eyeshadow palettes. I’m particularly, careful when I buy one because I need to be able to wear and look good in all or most of the colours in the palette for it to be worth it for me to buy. My longtime favorite has been Urban Decay Naked Basics for pretty brown/skin tone coloured shadow that works everyday and can be taken from day to night by adding definition in your eye crease or the outside corner of your crease with a darker shade. It is a wonderful matte palette from a dependable eyeshadow brand.

But, I have been searching for a palette with a bit more variety in it after using up my last Urban Decay Basic’s palette. I have

——-

——

wanted a palette with some shimmer or sparkle in it, not all shades, but some. Also, I have wanted a palette that has a few more choices in the family of brown shades with at least three lighter colours. I have found this palette! It is the Tartelette in Bloom Palette by Tarte. I have other Tarte eyeshadow and blush and I adore that Tarte has natural Amazonian Clay based products with excellent pigment. The palette is $54.00 at Sephora but if you sign up for Tarte online you can often buy their products from five to thirty percent off your purchase on certain occasions.

Also, I would like to note that Tarte’s Lights, Cameras, Lashes mascara is awesome too. I have a sample from Tarte I’m currently using. It can also be found at Sephora for $25.00. It is great at coating every lash in mascara without missing lashes as some mascaras do. It can be bought in a waterproof formula ( Lights, Cameras, Splashes) which I think I’m going to have to try. But, I have the regular version, so I am going over it with a second coat of cheap waterproof mascara, so Tarte’s mascara doesn’t end up under my eyes.

Also, it is important to ensure your eyeshadow lasts and stays put on your eyes by using an eye primer such as the one below by Urban Decay. However, I think if you use your regular face primer on your eyes, it will keep your eyeshadow lasting longer as well, and that’s one less product you need to buy — but it is up to you.

Also, having the right tools helps when applying eyeshadow. I purchased these two eyeshadow brushes at Shoppers Drug Mart awhile ago and they are Shoppers Drug Mart’s own brand called Quo which you can find at Beauty Boutique online. Quo has a variety of makeup brushes. One Quo makeup brush line is cheaper and the other is more expensive; however, the more expensive line tends to last years (except their foundation brush).

**Also, please remember to keep your brushes clean and bacteria free. Dish soap and shampoo ( tea-tree oil shampoo is ideal) are both superb ways to clean your brushes once a week or every two-weeks if that is all you can do. If you have a makeup brush that gets ‘wet’ such as your foundation brush, you definitely need to wash that one at least once a week to keep it clean.

Echoes of My Neighbourhood:  Organizing Areas of Life

Thank you to Jacqueline of A Cooking Pot and Twisted Tales for this wonderful prompt each Thursday to share parts of our lives and neighbourhoods. Jacqueline is a talented lady. Take a listen to some of her spoken poetry on her blog from YouTube. You won’t be disappointed.

——

When we become a certain age when we are young, most of us get to have our own room at some point. In our room each type of different items have their place, various kinds of toys, clothes etc. As you grow older your room can become an area that incorporates different rooms into one by how you organize your spaces.

I’m aware I am a bit old to be living at home still and it is my dream to have my own condo someday soon. But my health has made it so I need to stay at home. I cannot be independent enough to be completely on my own.

Sometimes such as now, I’m doing considerably better then in the past. I do pay rent at home and help out where I can. I still feel I can’t help out as much as I should, but there are times I do not have the energy to do chores. I split up a chore often, so I can do it over two or three days so I don’t become worn out. My parents are extremely understanding, especially at the times when I’m feeling not well and can’t do much at all. I try, I guess that is what counts. Living at home also, allows me to take classes. I’m so happy for that.

Here are a few areas of organization in my room:

——

Jewelry Box (Amanda Eifert)

——

I bought this for $13.00 at Winners, it is a cardboard decorated jewelry box with a Paris theme. I like it a lot. It has small shelved in a areas on top and a couple of drawers underneath. I think it looks pretty and it keeps my jewelry from getting dusty or becoming tarnished. I do have more jewelry not in the box, but hung over a mirror, and a few bracelets where I store my perfume.

——

Perfume Rack (Amanda Eifert)

——

I bought this on the Modclothe website. As some of you know, Modclothe is a wonderful website for woman who are  average and/or plus size to find clothes that have a vintage twist to them. They are a fantastic place for fancy dresses, bathing suites for any body type, interesting accessories, lingerie, and even fascinating items for your house, condo, or apartment. This is a spice rack which I have used for my perfume collection and to hang a few cuffs.

I’m trying to use up the perfume I have. I have one or two bottles that are eight-years old. I don’t think perfume lasts that long but it still smells good so I wear it. My favourite perfume is by Chanel and is called “Chance eau Tendre.” I’m also a huge fan of Marc Jacob perfumes. I have his original perfume “Daisy” and have used up one or two other perfumes by him. I usually save up my Optimum points until I have $60 or $80 worth and use that for a new scent. But right now, no perfume for me. I need to use up two or three bottles first!

—–

Bedside Table/Makeup Table (Amanda Eifert)

——-

Here is an important area, my Bedside table and makeup table. The table is actually a stool from IKEA and it has been repainted a couple of times. The lamp was inexpensive,  I think about $20.00. The storage container my makeup is in, is a file-folder and office supply holder and was about $15.00 at Staples. It works well to organize my makeup and I only have a few items of makeup I have to hide behind it. My rule is to use my makeup up, so even though it appears as if I have a lot, I use it all. As you know from my beauty posts, I adore makeup!

There are a few items (fad items) such as a bright blue eyeshadow that eventually get recycled but other then that any new makeup I get via Luxebox for instance, that I won’t use or have a similar item, I give to friends who have skin tones that suit the makeup. I also add makeup items in Birthday presents for little extras for girl friends. I should note, the table is near my closet door mirror. I know they are ‘out’ now in terms of interior design but closet door mirrors are extremely handy and a great use of space.

——

Magnetic Whiteboard (Amanda Eifert)

—–

I think this Magnetic Whiteboard is a handy item to have in a bedroom/kitchen/or coat room. I write items I need or want to buy on it, for in the near future. I make notes such as what kind of ink cartridge my printer uses. I also post photos of friends and relatives. Currently, the magnetic section of the board is full of baby pictures from friends. At the bottom of the section is a foam cushion I can tac things on. Right now I have that POPSUGAR booklist which I’ve barely started tacked on the board. Hopefully, I make some progress on the list soon.

——

Planning/Colouring Area (Amanda Eifert)

—–

Yes, this is only a place on my carpet on the floor in my room. I sit here and I plan my novel and other pieces I want to write. You can see the notebook with scribbles in the back. I love pretty notebooks or journals too. Coles or Indigo, tempted me with a couple of notebooks the other week — one notebook for me and one for a part of a friend’s birthday present. Indigo or Coles have a great selection of journals, notebooks, and stationary. Papyrus is often good for that as well.

The other itens you see here are the mediums I use to do adult colouring with. It is a relaxing activity to do at night. I have three different sets of Faber-Castell Artist Pen Brushes in Bright Colours, Pastel Colours, Terra Colours, as well as some black Pen Brushes of varied thicknesses downstairs. Also, I have Staedtler Watercolour crayons with a watercolour brush, and a Prismacolour set of twenty-four pencil crayons. It was all art mediums we used to render a room in Residential Design. I recommend all these mediums because they are excellent quality and a much fun. At the least, if you enjoy adult colouring, buy yourself excellent pencil crayons. They have greater blendibility and are better if you mess up and use the wrong shade. You can often work away a misplaced colour with another pencil crayon. Michaels is wonderful to buy nice art supplies with forty-percent off coupons or in Edmonton buy local and get a discount if you are a student at Delta Art. I enjoy Delta Art because for a small shipping fee in the city you can choose your supplies online and have it the following few days. Also, instore all the employees at Delta Art are extremely knowledgable about all their products.

Mineral Makeup: Is It A Good Option for Your Skin?

Bare Minerals Powder
Bare Minerals Mineral Veil Powder http://www.sephora.ca

Mineral makeup is not a ‘new’ thing as many of us believe. “Bare Escentuals” sold it’s mineral makeup in the “1970’s,” launching a new powder foundation they claimed was more “natural” than traditional makeup. Mineral makeup began as an alternative to regular foundation. It’s popularity is due to an increase in people’s knowledge of mineral makeup and demand for makeup with as few artificial ingredients as possible. Although makeup with artificial ingredients has an upside, so does the use of mineral makeup.  Mineral makeup has an absence of “filters” such as “talc, chemical dyes, binders, and chemical preservatives,” as well as having “health benefits,” for the user.

Traditional makeup it is most effective in covering up blemishes on the skin. These products provide coverage but they may prevent the skin from breathing and can “worsen redness, blemishes, and dryness of the skin.” In turn, you may need to wear more traditional makeup products due to these issues if they arise.

Natural makeup on the other hand, can give you similar or better coverage in comparison

Clinique Even Better SPF 15 Liquid Foundation
Clinique Even Better Makeup SPF 15 http://www.sephora.ca

to traditional makeup. Often mineral makeups such as foundations, have a buildable coverage. Many woman claim that mineral makeup gives them a more “natural” appearing makeup look. As if, you are not wearing any foundation at all.

Mineral makeup also has an increased shelf life because it does not encourage the growth of bacteria in the product due to how mineral makeup is made. Products aren’t contaminated as they are with the use of traditional makeup products. Aspects of daily life such as heat, rain, and tears, may cause some traditional makeup to melt off or smear. The same issue does not occur with natural makeup which is resistant to unforeseen aspects our makeup goes through on a daily basis.

Becca Mineral Blush
BECCA Mineral Blush http://www.sephora.ca

When applying mineral makeup, a little goes along way. It is best to build coverage in small shear layers until you have the coverage you desire for your foundation. Always wait until your moisturizer has absorbed into your skin first, before applying mineral makeup.

Nonetheless, “Perry Romanowsksi, author of Can You Get Hooked on Lip Balm? Top Cosmetic Scientists Answer Your Questions About the Lotions, Potions and Other Beauty Products You Use Every Day,” doesn’t think mineral makeup is as great as consumers think.'”All makeup is mineral makeup,'” Romanowsksi says. “‘You’ll find the same mineral ingredients — titanium-dioxide, zinc-oxide, mica, and iron-oxides — in conventional products.'”

Mineral makeup includes ingredients such as “titanium-dioxide” and “zinc-oxide.” These are both products found in sunscreen and can protect the wearer of mineral makeup from the damaging and aging effects of the sun. Romanowsksi suggests, however, that a zinc-oxide mine does not exist, “zinc-oxide is synthesized in a lab.” Also, titanium-dioxide, may start out in a mine but it is refined in a lab undergoing an “extraction and purification process” and this Romanowsksi believes is a healthy procedure because titanium-dioxide from the mine can be “contaminated with mercury and lead.”

One of the best reasons to wear mineral makeup is because it is”non-comedogenic” meaning it is oil free and will not clog pores because it allows the skin to breathe. Although, one should note, many foundations and products that are not mineral products are also non-comedogenic.

What mineral makeup lacks, is what makes it so perfect for your skin. It doesn’t have

Omorovicza Mineral Touch Concealer
Omorovicza Mineral Touch Concealer http://www.sephora.ca

“artificial colours, oils, perfumes, or preservatives to clog pores and irritate skin.” A unique combination of “zinc-oxide, iron, mica, iron-oxides, and titanium-dioxides” that have “anti-inflammatory properties,” are helpful for those with problematic skin.

Mineral makeup can help stop conditions such as “acne, eczema, rosacea,” or those with skin which is “sensitive to sun” because of procedures such as “chemical peels.””‘[M]ineral makeup,’ New York dermatologist Neal Schultz, MD says, ‘ . . .is less likely to cause a reaction [for] women with sensitive skin.'” Because mineral makeup “‘doesn’t contain oil, it won’t aggravate acne-prone skin.'”

Tarte Palette
Tarte Energy Noir Clay Palette http://www.sephora.ca

Today, mineral makeup cannot only be found as a loose powder foundation. You can find “blush, bronzer, eyeshadow, lipstick, liquid foundations,” and other makeup items “presented as mineral products.”

Oddly enough, since mineral makeup has become uber popular, many cosmetics companies have added back to their formulas “the ingredients they omitted when they first introduced mineral products. For instance, after reading the list of [twelve] ingredients in a so-called ‘mineral eye shadow’ from a drugstore” it was hard to tell the difference between the mineral eyeshadow and many other regular drugstore eyeshadows –noted Ni’Kita Wilson.

Wilson says, “it’s impossible for mineral makeup companies to create a liquid foundation with a pared-down ingredients list because microbes thrive in water.” This means many liquid mineral product “formulations . . .include some kind of preservative.” Wilson says, “[w]ithout [preservatives], in liquid foundations [etc.] contaminated products [could] lead to skin infections.”

So, if you have “sensitive skin,” you could see how a “loose mineral foundation” works

Viseart Eyeshadow Palette
Viseart Eyeshadow Palette http://www.sephora.ca

for you. Your best bet is to search “for products with the shortest ingredients list.” Even mineral products with a “longer list of ingredients,” mean that there’s a greater chance  “your skin [may] react to” an ingredient in the formulation of the product.

Mineral makeup can also be a good option with people who “don’t have sensitive skin” issues. But you probably want to keep your expectations low. One mineral product such as mineral foundation isn’t going to correct all your skincare problems such as “large pores” or “uneven pigmentation.” You will still need products such as a good primer, concealer, and a “skincare regimen.”

I wanted to provide you guys with a list of some good mineral makeup brands you can take a look at, keeping in mind some of the facts I found out about mineral makeup as I researched it. Many brands only have certain products that they classify as mineral makeup. You can take a look at some of these products from Sephora and then research into the brand to see if they carry other mineral products. Hopefully this list will get you started. You can also go into your local drugstore to see if any drugstore brand makeup carries mineral products. One brand I can think of is Physician’s Formula. Thanks for reading!

When it beeps you can let go of your hair for a softer curl or hold it longer for more bouncier curls.

Makeup Mini Haul December 2015

I have picked up a few items makeup wise lately. I also have received a couple large samples in Luxebox or with other makeup purchases that have been excellent. So, I wanted to share those purchases/samples with you here today.

Tarte Eyeshadow Palette 2015
http://www.tartecosmetics.com Tarte Eye Shadow Palette

Tartlette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette (www.tartcosmetics.com) -$54.00 – I have been impressed by Tarte’s choice of palettes this holiday season. They had some great ones in summer too. I gave away a couple palettes with bronzer, highlighter, eye shadow, and blush combined, to a couple of friends this year and they were well loved Birthday and Christmas presents. When I saw this matte palette I was immediately drawn to it because it had a fair amount of light colours in the palette. The issue I find with many palettes of eye shadow is that they have too many medium and dark colors and not enough light colors. And it is important to have a good amount of light colours to choose from because those are the colours that go all  over your eyelid before you put on a medium color on your lid and darker colour in your crease. You may even use more of the light colour to blend your eye shadow at the end of your eye shadow process.

So, I’m pretty happy with this eye shadow palette. Basically, each row is a different kind of eye shadow look you can achieve. Although the palette does come with instructions on how to do and everyday eye with the purple colours and a nighttime eye with some of the skin tone and brownish colors. The very darkest colours are excellent if you use those colours to line your eyes. But I don’t really do that nor have I ever. I usually go with a liquid liner in black, brown, purple, or grey and I think it is so much simpler to do your eyeliner with a makeup designed to be a liner ergonomically. So, those dark colours are useless colours in the palette for me. But I do like the first three colours in each row. I have tried all three looks out and they are superb. Plus, Tarte has such pigmented eye shadow. You have to be careful you don’t use to much especially of the darker colours.

The only thing that I would change about the palette would be to make the lighter colours larger in size. Because what always happens  is you run out of the lighter colours earlier and have these medium and dark colours left because you use less of the colours due to the dark pigment. I also wouldn’t have minded maybe a colour in each row that was even lighter then what is provided, for the corner of your eye and your brow bone (instead of a colour to line your eyes). It would give your eyes that extra glimmer that is so refined. I was very happy to buy this palette at 30 % off. They are sold out on Tarte’s website  right now but you might be able to find it full price at Sephora.

Tarte Cheek Stain (Skintuitive) in Energy – (www.tartecosmetics.com)

Tarte Cheek Stain
http://www.tartecosmetics.com Tarte Cheek Stain

– $36.00 – For the picture of the cheek stain I could not get the picture in the colour I have which is called Energy and is a bubblegum pink. I usually do not like wet or cream blushes but I have found a couple of options that are actually nice. One of them is this Tarte cheek stain which I got a large sample from Tarte in the summer. What is neat about this Tarte Cheek Stain  is it is “Skintuitive.” So, you take the lid off and put it right on your cheeks or use a blush brush and really buff and smooth the blush in so it looks natural. You cannot leave the blush how it is at first or it looks like you have neon pink streaks on your cheek. As you blend the colour in, the colour adapts to your skin colour so that you get your perfect shade of pink (or whatever colour) for your cheeks. I am not sure if all Tarte Cheek Stains do this or simply the sample and colour I have but either way the Cheek Stain is a great product, remains on your cheeks all day, and doesn’t rub off easily. The product sinks into your skin and stays put. The process of applying this blush is actually easier then powder blush to apply once you get the hang of the product. Tarte has about eight different colours you can choose from on their site and Sephora may have even more.

Two Faced Lip Stick in Marshmallow Bunny
http://www.twofaced.com Two Faced Lip Stick in Marshmallow Bunny

Two Faced La Creme Lipstick in Marshmallow Bunny – (www.twofaced.com) – $32.oo – I have been using sites for these Makeup finds other than Sephora. I love Sephora but it is Christmas time and you can often find deals on a brands home website as I did with Tarte. Two Faced is having deals every day until Christmas. Today’s deal is: FREE Flat Buki Brush with any Love Flush Blush! Code: TFBEAUTY11. In case, you wanted to check that out. What is awesome about this lipstick is it is creamy and good for keeping dry lips away. It hydrates your lips as well as acting as a lipstick. I was looking for the perfect pink lipstick and I found this shade Marshmallow Bunny. The colour is pretty opaque and longer lasting but does need to be applied every few hours. The best part about this lipstick  besides the colour is it’s creaminess so your lips won’t dry out while wearing it. There are 32 different colours on the Two Faced website to choose from. I have slowly been trying out some of Two Faced Makeup and have been happy with it. I like their eye shadow sets and am particularly found of a highlighting powder they carry.

Bioderma Hydrabio Lait: Moistuirising Cleansing Milk for Sensitive

Bioderma Cleansing Milk
http://www.murale.ca Bioderma Hydrabio Moisturising Cleansing Milk to Cleanse and Remove Makeup

Dehydrated Skin: Cleanses and Removes Make-up, moisturisers – (www.murale.ca) – $21.95 – Bioderma skincare products come in many types for different skin. This particular Cleansing Milk which removes makeup well, is for dry skin. I don’t have dry skin but I have not found the product to be oily or anything close to it. Generally, I use wipes to remove my makeup but a couple of posts ago I told you guys about a mascara from Dior that I was using. It was so hard to take off my eyelashes and sometimes got on my skin around my eyes. Bioderma Cleansing milk is amazing and will remove any makeup on your skin or eyes. The only problem I found when removing my eye make up,  with some of the cleansing milk on cotton round,  was that if you swipe to hard,  your contacts will pop out. First world problem! I was not expecting much from a makeup remover that acts like cold cream but I have been impressed by this product and Bioderma. Perhaps it merits looking into some of their other skincare products. They are priced well. But Murale was the only place I could find that carried the products.

Blinc Brush it On Slide it off Eyeliner
http://www.blincinc.com Blinc Brush it on. . . Slide it Off Liquid Eyeliner

Blinc Brush it on Slide it Off Eyeliner – (www.blincinc.com) – ($26.00) – I received this Blinc liquid eyeliner in a Luxebox as well. The sample is a bit tiny but the Liquid eyeliner is awesome. Blinc products are not waterproof they are “water-resistant.” When you put the eyeliner on your lash line you are putting on a water-resistant “layer” of eyeliner. Blinc says their product doesn’t  “fade, smudge, run, or flake even if you cry or rub your eyes.” When you want to remove Blinc it slides off effortlessly into your hand. It is an interesting product. There are five shades of eyeliner of this type. I am wearing black and the black was intense. Even though I accidentally got some on my brow bone, it was easily removed smudging it with my fingers. I don’t know how taking it off will be tonight since today is the first day I have worn it. But I am happy with how well the product looks on my eye. The black is bright and shiny. And it was easy enough to apply, the wand is a good size. S0, look into Blinc makeup and let me know what you think.

Delectable (miracle material) Ultra Nourishing Coconut and Cream

Delectable Body Lotion
http://www.beautyboutique.ca Delectable Coconut and Cream Triple Moisture Body Lotion

Body Lotion (www.beautyboutique.ca) -$14.00 – I couldn’t find the exact product I was looking for, but this will give you a close idea of what I have been using. Delectable is a new brand that I received in Luxebox and it can be found at Shoppers Drug Mart across Canada and on their Beauty Boutique website. The lotion I have is for hands and it works so well! I never had dry hands after using this lotion and the Coconut smells so good! Not to mention it is not very expensive for a small tube and because it is Christmas Delectable has a bunch of sets you can get that contain different flavours of their hand and body lotions for gifts. You can also find the full-sized lotions in Shoppers. It’s a nice product I am glad I’ll be able to buy when I run out.

Righteous Butter with Softening Shea Butter and Aloe Vera
http://www.beautyboutique.ca Soap and Glory: The Righteous Butter with Softening Shea Butter and Aloe Vera

Soap and Glory: The Righteous Butter with Softening Shea Butter and Aloe Vera – (www.beautyboutique.ca) -$18.00 – I bought this Body Butter   at Shoppers Drug Mart. I used to love buying the Body Butter at Victoria Secret and it came in so many great flavours such as ‘Love Spell.’ But the problem is Victoria Secret is not making  body butter under the  brand they were making it under before. So, until I can try their new body butter brand I  needed something to last me. So, I tried this Soap and Glory Righteous Butter. While $18.00 is a bit pricey for a body butter which I wear everyday and put on after each shower, there is actually a good amount in the container (300 ml). I enjoy the smell,  it is not too overpowering. Righteous Butter smells a little citrusy but only a bit. It works great. My legs are always silky smooth after using Righteous Butter. I also think since, Victoria Secret’s new body butter is $18.00, I might be using this brand if their  is more butter (lotion) in the container. I am a huge fan of Soap and Glory. They have great lip, body scrubs, and creams. The only item I have not liked from them have been cleansing clothes, which were not damp enough and not substantial enough to remove makeup well. But the body butter I am extremely satisfied with using.

Hope you enjoyed my mishmash of products. I would like to try sharing some of the good products I receive in Luxebox a bit more. Sometimes I forget about them and the products are the same products that are available online, in your local drugstore, Sephora or Ulta.

Merry Christmas!

Amanda

Using Natural Products for Skincare

Prompt: Write a global issue connecting it to a personal issue

I can’t go to deep into this, but I see the amount of chemicals used in many drugstore products. Especially, I am thinking about all the makeup that has parabens, and sulfates (etc.) and other chemicals that many woman are washing with or putting on their skin. The makeup just sits there all day and I don’t think much of it is good for your skin and causes breakouts, dry skin, and later, things like cancer or skin damage (etc.)

I have good reason to be concerned about this because I love makeup but I have to be extremely careful what I put on my skin because I will break out from chemicals in makeup or develop rashes. This is why I have begun to really look into the makeup I purchase. Is it natural? Does it contain products I can actually read? I have invested in a lot of mineral makeup from makeup lines such as Benefit Makeup, Purminerals, Tarte, Mac Mineral, , Bobbi brown, and Clinique, Even though a couple make ups I use such as Clinique and Bobbi brown aren’t quite natural they are gentle on my skin and often have mineral powders and other products in their lines of makeup. For bath products a big one I love to use is lush. Everything is fresh and produced with products I can read.

I’m not sure it is possible for people, especially woman to use natural and mineral products all the time but there is enough products out there now that we can try to use at least some of those products in our routines.

Tarte Amazonian Clay Makeup Splurge

Recently, I found a coupon for Tarte makeup on Facebook for 30% off. Kate at http://www.thesmallthingsblog.com (one of my favorite blogs) has always raved about their Amazonian Clay foundation so I was pretty excited to try the foundation which is usually $49.00, for a cheaper price. I also purchased a shade of the Amazonian Clay Blush, and a Liquid Eyeliner Pen (the pen which I have already blogged about). Later, I read a blog on a Limited Edition Tarte Eyeshadow Palette and although it wasn’t available on http://www.tarte.ca I was able to purchase it on Sephora. I am happy with all my purchases and I would like to share the 3 I haven’t shared with you previously today.

Tarte Amazonian Clay 12H- Full Coverage Foundation – $49.00 – (sephora.ca) – I was pleasantly surprised by this foundation for several reasons. First of all, it comes in many shades with both yellow and pink undertones. The ivory color with the pink undertones was perfect for me and is the best foundation match I’ve had in a long time.

The foundation is a bit different than other foundations I’ve tried because it is a cream foundation and not a liquid or a BB cream. It is quite thick so a very little goes a long way to spread across your face and give great coverage that leaves your skin UVA/UVB SPF 15 protected. You can also build up this foundation if you want thicker coverage.

In my mind, that this foundation is usually almost $50 works against it but what totally makes it worth it is the fact that you don’t need much foundation for each use. You do need to blend the foundation very well because of its viscosity and I recommend a great foundation brush to blend the foundation well.

Although, initially, the foundation change made me break out a bit after about a week my skin adjusted to the foundation and I have loved it ever since. I love that it stays on all day, does not come off easily, and provides excellent coverage even when you have a bit of a break out.

What made me extremely excited to try this foundation is that it is a mineral foundation made from Amazonian Clay and is free of Parabens, Sulfates, Synthetic fragrances, Petrochemicals, Pthalates, GMO’s, and Triclosan — all things I would rather not have on my skin. Best of all, all most all of  Tarte’s make up is made without some of these unwanted ingredients.

Tarte Limited Edition Amazionian Clay EyeShadow Palette Limited Edition V1 – ($46.00) -(Sephora.ca) – I just received this palette last week and was really thrilled with it. It is a more neutral type palette so it has a lot of sparkly and matte browns as well as some skin colored shades that are sparkly and matte; it  also contains a beautiful sparkly purple and sparkly gold and copper.

There are many mixes of eye shadow looks that I (and you) can do with this palette and it’s 16 shades. The eye shadow has excellent pigmentation and sticks well, especially if you put an eye shadow base underneath your eye shadow — this eye shadow is budge proof.

It comes in a cute purple box with a pink ribbon and is also the perfect gift for a birthday or Christmas present for a special woman on your list. This eyeshadow is formulated without Parabens and Pthalates.

Tarte Amazionion Clay 12H Blush – (31.00) – (www.sephora.ca) – This long wear solar baked blush is amazing because it has great pigment and comes in so many shades. I bought it in a purplish-pink shade since I was out of that color and I have been very happy with the blush.

It is infused with natural clay from the Amazon river and it minimizes oil around pores on your face to keep the blush color in place. It is also nutrient rich and has nourishing and hydrating properties which is great for girls with dry skin. It is free of Parabens, Sulfates, and Pthalates.

I can attest to the long-lasting skin calming effects of this blush. It never makes my skin oily or causes me to break out. I would like to get a couple more blushes  in a more pinky and a more apricot shade.

All in all, I am extremely impressed with Tarte makeup and highly recommend it to any one who is considering using the products. Most of Tarte’s products are priced well and the one’s that are more expensive are worth the cost. You can also check on http://www.tarte.ca for more Tarte makeup products, as this is where I used the coupon code I found. I also recommend liking Tarte on Facebook.
