I blink awake to the lapping water as its tune resonates splashed against my skin, and when I gulp my protein shake; I breathe in liquid air and run. On the street-way cannel, the slide and slip of the tide is music, a rhythm I hum; I inhale the salt air as my sweat drips in the morning. I’m rounding the corner, acknowledging neighbors revving the engines of their boats for the cafes or market; I dive off the farthest dock and swim home — my morning training complete.

I’ll never trace the curve of your lips,

Where it dips, and lick my thumb;

Your nip, a playful bite.

Your brows wiggle; eyes sapphire.

While we slide past maybes,

Sleek condos and greenery;

Cedar trees that sway,

A seed in my heart nourished.

Sharp grass intoxicating —

You claiming my mouth;

Sweeping of lips,

Slow and exquisite.

Sweat makes us stick.

I ache as I’ve never.

Your hand rests ‘neath my throat,

My pulse rapid and wild.

You’ve etched my heart,

I’ll never forget.

The wind rustling, and the flapping of wings,

Our breath in syncopation.

Fighting for air against —

Little deaths.

In a moment, a few minutes,

On a train—

Where we two met.

Potential flared; I turned —

Flustered.

The pain in my chest,

Will it lessen?

Dazed as the days drift,

I didn’t know your name.

Know the flame you kindled,

Would burn me.

My hearts lit with your light,

But the mischief in me,

Craves you both in deepest night,

And the blinding day;

Beneath the Mexican sun,

On tequila beaches.

Daylight to overwhelm,

The throb of pain,

Of possibility snuffed out.

“I’ll Be the Moon” by Dierks Bentley Ft. Maron Morris

It begins innocently. A few words, a few texts that turn into a few hundred messages. A few phone calls and coffees. A few drinks, and late night conversations. My phone lights up in the dark. “Where are you?”

“Come meet me.”

“Are you sure?”

“Kier, meet for a drink. For an hour, maybe two, maybe three.”

“Baby, I’m in.” I speed towards our favorite restaurant bar. Our relationship has never passed conversation. Eyes locked for eons, long enough to drown in each other’s presence.

Jovial talk and laughter echo as I open the worn door. I find you in the bar area, in are usual place. My pulse thumps louder and your smile lights up my heart. Elation and a sense of tranquility rushes through my veins.

You take a sip of your beer then, saunter over to greet me. Grabbing my cold hands, you warm them, caressing them before grazing the back of your hand against my cheek. Its silkiness stokes a fire, igniting embers inside me.

“Girl, you can’t take your eyes off me, can you?”

You chuckle and lean into me, forehead against my chest. “Yeah, I’ve been missing the sight of you. I keep thinking about you.”

Your words are sweet relief, and our first kiss overwhelms me. I grasp your vanilla scented hair in my fingers. Your lips brush mine over and over. I nip your bottom lip, and the clammer of voices and TV’s in the bar fade.

I’ve dreamt of kissing you often. Is it even real? Then, you moan and the kiss elevates, lips melding, and tongues meeting faster; passion burns brighter in us both. We’re lost until a waitress pokes my shoulder. Her sharp nail bites, and breaks our fog.

“Hey, Kier.”

“Oh, Brandy. We’re kind of busy. I stare at your swollen lips, and prepare to dive back in for more.

You move away slightly, gripping my shirt, eyes wide. There’s enough room for Brandy to half squeeze and wiggle between our bodies.

“Kier, you want a beer? You haven’t ordered. There’s specials on tap or do you want your regular?” Brandy presses her red lips together. She. wiggles her chest against my side. Her scoop neck t-shirt leaves cleavage bulging. But I’m not interested in her and never have been.

I peer at you, your biting your lip. Your eyes narrow at Brandy. “My regular drink’s fine, Brandy.”

She peers at you and freezes. You roll your eyes and she flushes. Her lips form a practiced fake smile. Brandy sways her hips, teetering back to the bar on red heels.

You burst out laughing and snuggle into my checked shirt and chest. Then, you pull my my face down towards your lips. Your hands sneak around my back, and stroke my back beneath my shirt.

“Mmm.” I can’t help moaning. Our lips clash, the sparks between us explode. I lead you back towards the booth, where no one will bother us.

We converse, and make-out as if we’re both sixteen. We laugh for hour, and I never want the night to end. When your ringtone, “House of the Rising Sun” goes off, ‘his name’ pops up on your caller ID. I stare at the floor, hiding my disappointment.

You brush your hand through my hair. “I’m sorry, it’s time to leave. I need to go home. ‘He’s’ wondering where I am.”

I hate your excuses, but sigh against your neck. I place small wet kisses up your neck towards your velvet earlobe. You giggle and push me away half-heartedly.

I grasp your small chin. “Ain’t no one gotta know. Please, Mer, one more kiss before you go.”

As you walk away, I admire your toned legs, your skirt swishing around your knees. You stop, turning your head back, and flash your sweet blue eyes at me. Your coy smile lingers in my mind as you saunter out the door. You don’t know how sexy you are, even when you’re leaving me behind.

I grumble to myself, stretching out in the booth. What are you doing? She’s married and it’s going to get complicated. Then, my heart comments. It’s already complicated, Kier, and you know it. You might as well see it through and see what happens.

Brandy strolls up to me, sliding her hand down my arm. She’s young with glossy black hair and whisky-colored eyes, but she has no substance. Her beauty has nothing on your mahogany curls, sparkling green eyes, and your plush pink lips.

She lacks your ironic sense of humor and innate sweetness. I push Brandy off me and drink my third beer. I imagine your silk skin in my arms, that we’re in a place where no one disturbs us until we say so.

*****

A couple of days later you call me, distraught and weeping.

“I can’t do this to my husband, he loves me. We’ve ten-years together.” The weight of those years is in your voice. You’re audibly exhausted and frustrated; your tears pierce through me.

“So, he’s cheating, again?”

“Yeah, his fifth affair, that I know about.”

“Ten years, huh? I don’t wanna be a liar, Mer. And I don’t wanna be a fool, but I hate keeping our affair a secret. I’m sorry he’s cheating, but you deserve love too. Give us a chance. Leave ‘him.’ I would never cheat on you, and we’ll be so much better than you and ‘what’s his name.'”

“We are more. You’ve always been more to me than him, even when you left.” You’re whispering. I wander if you’re hiding in the laundry room, so ‘he’ doesn’t hear our call.

Your voice wobbles. “You’re all I have, ‘he’ doesn’t know me as you know me. He doesn’t love the me from long ago, or the me today. Kier, please always love me, and don’t let me go. Someday soon, this will all work out.”

I shake my head. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I don’t care anymore. “Okay, Mer, for now our relationship can remain a secret. I will do this for you, if you want me to. Can you do this? Juggle your husband’s infidelities and us? Sometime soon you have to make up your mind. A man that treats you like ‘he‘ does isn’t worth your time.”

You cry louder. “I never thought I’d see you after all these years. I can’t let you go again. It ripped me apart when you left. It was the reason I married ‘him.’ I didn’t have to think about the hole in my heart from you, with ‘him;’ at least until his first affair.”

” I never meant to hurt you, but I had to leave, to see the world. Now I’m home, for good.”

“I’m glad. Are we going to meet tonight? ‘He’s’ going out to see her.”

” How about somewhere in-between where you and I live? If that’s what you want, we can meet as often as we’re able. I still feel as if you’re leavin’ me in the dark, accepting an affair. I want more. For now, he can be your sun and I’ll be your moon.”

“You’re so lyrical. I love that about you.”

“Sometimes I am. But, it makes sense. He has your days, and I have your nights, time permitting. But what happens when the two times intersect? He can be the sun and I’ll be the moon, for now, but not forever.”

****

It’s a lavish hotel with swanky modern minimelest decor. The bed is swathed in white, with a mattress so comfortable you could sink into it. You’re stretched out, our skin flush and our limbs tangled after hours of loving. I kiss your forehead, brushing my fingers through your mahogany curls.

Suddenly, ‘his’ ringtone goes off. Your phone lights up.

I kiss your cheeks and your sweet lips.

You bury your face in the pillow, moaning. “Gotta go. He’s wondering where I am.”

“I know, but it still ain’t easy. Just tonight, stay longer. Stay for the whole night. Say you’re at your friend’s place having a girl’s night after a hard day. Call your friend, Liz. She’ll back you up. Tell ‘him’ you forgot to phone or text him earlier.”

“I don’t forget to tell him stuff like that.”

“Maybe, you do, only this once.”

You giggle, “Someone’s creative tonight. You must really want me to stay. I want to stay too.” You smile, plush lips brushing mine, before placing your head on my chest. I wonder if you can hear how fast my heart beats when I’m entwined with you.

You raise your head, your green eyes alight. You kiss me hard, not soft but with need. There’s desperation in your kiss.

You climb on top of me. “One more time before I go.”

I grin. Our kisses and caresses multiply, tightening the cord of our connection. Later, you’re gone, but I’m lay awake in the early morning hours.

My mind won’t stop circling. Tomorrow, she’ll be waking up beside him. She’ll tell him that you loves him, but I know, Mer, doesn’t mean it. She loves me she told me so. She doesn’t love him at all, she never has.

****

For over five months now, we continue to meet whenever possible. Unexpectedly, we have the whole weekend to ourselves. ‘He’s’off on a business trip. You told me ‘he’ has a new mistress, affair number six. I don’t understand how he doesn’t know he has the best of all women in you.

You’re splayed on top of me and we’re both gasping for breath. You pull the blankets up around us as our sweat cools; your head fitted in the crook of my neck until you raise it.

You bite your lip, peering at me. “In my mind when I’m looking at him, and when I think of him, I don’t see us continuing on like this. We’ve had ten years, but ten years of what? Ten years of lies and deceit, now on both our parts.”

I rub your back. You talk about him a lot some nights. Thinking aloud, attempting to solve the riddle. How do you let your husband know you want a divorce, that there was never any love between either of you.

You kiss my neck, then my heart. “I’ve been lying about loving him for years. I can’t stand all his affairs, but are we any better? We’re having our own affair now? I feel so guilty, but at the same time, I don’t care anymore. He deserves it.”

“I hate this.” I don’t mean to sound harsh, but I have to tell you. ” He’s always the elephant in the room. No matter what you think, he’s never known the real you. He doesn’t see you for you, or the false life you both live. But girl, I see you and know the truth. I see you clearer than he ever will.”

I flip you over, resting on top of your sweet body and my forearms. “Don’t let this be a secret any longer. I don’t want to only be the moon; I want to be sunlight too.”

I kiss you tangling my lips and tongue with yours, channeling my will into our loving making. Between gasps you whisper, “Tuesday, I’ll see my lawyer.”

My eyes widen and you giggle, kissing my joyful grin. I tickle you, then my hands make the familiar journey down you alabaster freckled skin.

Before you leave I try to encourage you. “I’m no longer the moon, but sunlight too. I’m every time of day with you.”

You kiss me, holding our heads nose to nose. ” You’re the sun and the moon and everything in-between.”

Interview With Simon Farnell

Welcome to another bi-weekly interview. I’m excited to share with you today a writer and blogger by the name Simon Farnell from the blog: Planet Simon. Ensure you check-out his site. He is an avid and imaginative science-fiction and fantasy fan who writes superbly. I enjoy his Titan Mystery Serial and his thoughtful and interesting articles on the The Solar System.

1. Hi Simon, Please Tell Us About Yourself:

My name is Simon Farnell and I come from the UK. I’ve lived here all of my life and I’ve rarely been away. The only time I’ve been away from the UK is for work. I’m a nearly forty-two-year -old man who grew up with a great imagination and a poor understanding of math.

Nevertheless, I became an engineer and started working with electronics, soldering, wiring, and fixing things. After many years some crazy person thought I should design electronics and through much blood, sweat, and tears, I still am.

I have always loved the outdoors and I have an avid sense of adventure in the natural world outside my back door. I’ve climbed numerous mountains, sailed around on the sea, and canoed to different places. This sense of exploration and discovery shows in my tastes of reading, films, music, and writing.

I’ve always loved Star Wars from when I was young and I love the science-fiction and fantasy genres. Through the years my love for these genres has shown especially in my taste in music. I listen to wonderful tracks that take me on great adventures.

One day I realized I have a vivid imagination and that maybe I should write some of my thoughts down. That’s how it began.

2. When Did You Start Writing and Blogging?

I started blogging in 2012 when a friend I was working with suggested should write and share my thoughts as “I have something to say.” I didn’t blog much at first but I had a few ideas which I posted. Looking back on some of these first posts, I see some of it was terrible. I struggled working with WordPress and almost gave up on my blog until I figured out how to use the WordPress platform and discovered its power.

When my mother died in 2014,  I discovered I had all these emotions inside me and while I didn’t pour them into my blog, I found writing to be an escape for me, a kind of therapy. I believe it’s still helping me find the real me inside myself.

“When my mother died in 2014,  I discovered I had all these emotions inside me and while I didn’t pour them into my blog, I found writing to be an escape for me, a kind of therapy. I believe it’s still helping me find the real me inside myself.” – Simon Farnell

3. What Does Writing and Poetry Mean To You and Why Do You Write?

I write because I feel I need to write. I have stories I want to tell, worlds to discover, and feelings to pour out. When we read a story it’s someone’s story or imagination in written form and poetry feelings in written form. While I didn’t start my blog to write poetry, I have written some pieces which are my feeling painted by my fingers into words.

4. Where Do You Find Your Own Inspiration and Motivation to Write? Is There A Time Of Day You Prefer Writing?

A large part of my inspiration is from music. I’ve always loved movie themes and music soundtracks without words.  I’ve discovered the likes of Two Steps from Hell and Audiomachine which take me to places only my mind can go.

I like to write anytime,  but the evening is easier; however, even that is difficult at the moment – so I write any time I can.

“I write because I feel I need to write. I have stories I want to tell, worlds to discover, and feelings to pour out. When we read a story it’s someone’s story or imagination in written form and poetry feelings in written form.” – Simon Farnell

6. What Are Your Current Writing Projects or Do You Have Any Future Projects Planned?

A. For my blog I’ve been writing a serial story called the Titan Mystery – the title is crap and I’m going to re-work it later. The series is about a huge ship that bends time. It traps another ship and its crew in a time bubble and the story is of how the crew escapes.

Here is a link to the beginning of The Titan Mystery

Continued . . .

B. I’ve also found that Minecraft is a useful vessel for telling stories and I have a series with Minecraft Steve:

Here is a link to Simon’s Minecraft Steve and the Lost City Part 4.

Continued . . .

C. I’ve also been posting a series about conspiracy theories which have come to life and I study them to test their viability. It’s amazing how many mysteries there are out there and scary ones too.

Apart from these serials,  I have two books that I have started and I am slowly working through them. I’m not saying anything about them yet, but I’m hoping future posts will have information and updates on the books. Lets say, they should be pretty amazing.

Here is a link to Simon’s SciFi Files: Lunar Atmosphere

7. Please Tell Us About Your Process:

My writing process is to write what comes to mind or what I feel. I like to write more than I like to edit and I think this shows. My viewpoint is, spending time editing is time wasted which could be spent writing or something else. I know that when I write my book(s) that will have to change and I will have to edit.

8. What Are Your Preferred Genres of Reading And Writing? Do You Have Any Helpful Advice for Other Writers?

I like to read and write science-fiction and fantasy stories, this way I can let my mind go anywhere and anytime. I believe writers and bloggers should write themselves first. I know that if you want to sell you need to have a product. But make sure you write for you most of all.

“My writing process is to write what comes to mind or what I feel. I like to write more than I like to edit and I think this shows. My viewpoint is, spending time editing is time wasted which could be spent writing or something else.” – Simon Farnell

9. Do You Have Any More Pieces of Writing You’d Like To Share With Us?

This is more poetic piece that I wrote recently based on thoughts and feeling I was having at the time:

Torrents of Memories

By Simon Farnell.

simon-water
Simon Farnell

I stand absorbed by the falling water. Like moments in time they come and go so fast. Lost to the pool below, mixed together in an inseparable mix.

Yet my pool of thoughts can be separated, in mixed from the rest to bring g back moments in a drop, feelings lost to be rediscovered.

Soon I’m lost to every falling drop, memories crash over me in a crescendo and the moments lost in the torrent until I can feel them again.

Simon ☺

Continued . . .

This one is more humorous, based piece on someone I was working with:

Sorry about the tiny text, I don’t know how to fix it on the iPad.

——-

Why is this bridge bothering me, besides a bit of claustrophobia? I can feel my adrenaline pumping, my fight or flight response taking over.

In the fading twilight, my eyes peer everywhere, searching for something, whatever is out there. As I step across the bridge it creaks. Then I swear I hear heavy breathing, a growl perhaps? I start to run and the end of the bridge is ten steps in front of me.

Then, I am across the bridge and I hear nothing. It’s trying not to make a sound and the silence makes me sweat. Minutes pass, I believe fifteen? I sigh, shaking my head, thinking I’ve been afraid of something I imagined.

Then, it grabs me, sharp teeth sinking in; it’s too late to scream.

Writing 101: Poem – Etherees – “The Mark” #everydayinspiration

Today’s prompt is to use a quote to begin our writing.

———

The battle of life is, in most cases, fought uphill; and to win it without a struggle were perhaps to win it without honor. If there were no difficulties there would be no success; if there were nothing to struggle for, there would be nothing to be achieved.  – Samual Smiles

———

Such goals we have to not miss the giant mark,

To accomplish though we faulter and–

Find ourselves falling of the mark short.

My gaze has set upon the hill,

My determination —

Evident and,

Perspiration,

Relevant.

Crying,

March.

—-

I,

Will not —

Let failure,

Tarnish my–

Intent to triumph,

Strength, running through my bones,

Sweat upon my brow and I,

Reach for that set goal growing still,

Never going to give, can’t alleviate —

The pain I meet, my struggle with heart.

—–

There is no distance I won’t go, no path–

My sword won’t clear the way, lashing through,

Knowing my own virtue isn’t,

Worth a mercenary,

Heart of one who cannot,

Taste the wine which is,

His life’s blood met,

Breaking bread and,

Fighting on,

Life is,

Tough.

—-

Goal,

In my,

Grasp I,

Keep winning,

There is no place to —

Wander of path I’m kept,

Focused on the prize before —

I am confused by life’s debris,

Keep up the challenge, the struggle,

Never fear, blessed angels fight with you to end.

—–

No weakness in my lungs, battle cries are —

Rung; an invading army charges through,

Not pierced by arrows or swords of,

Finest sharpest metals mixed,

Alloys fit to strike wrath,

Life is a fight won,

It’s hard to breathe.

Even stabbed we,

Triumph.

At last,

Rest.

Poem: Tanka – “Dirty Tanka Take II”

http://www.favim.com

——

New life beating in,

Hearts seeking opening for air,

Kisses smother breathe,

Echoes of Union in bliss form,

Salt, sweat, tears, breathing heavy.

—-

Pulling hair, soft, shorn,

Yesterday’s haircut noticed,

Stubble it burns skin,

Rash of red tells me you’re here.

No chance to tell what you’ll steal.

—–

A change of course when,

You kiss me deeply then kiss,

Trails of happiness,

Into deeper shores traverse,

Pleasures name we both chant.

Hedonist in moment,

Searching for lost territory,

Treasure found everywhere,

In a joyous joining cry,

Passion burns, enthralled, we dive —

—-

Naked skin and covers,

Fighting, every inch of domain,

Claiming conquests,

Certain areas are yours to find,

I explore my secret land

Judgement for our crimes,

Punish with your mouth, divine,

Never giving you,

Chance to win erotic dance,

Heated looks speak and skin glows.

—-

Ripping clothes I liked,

Not done out of spite, relax —

Leave worries outside,

In here there’s gold to find, keep,

“Miles to go before [we] sleep.”

Poem: Free Verse – “Worth More”

—–

http://www.salon.com

——

I’m tired, frustrated out of my mind;

To some men, I’m only worth sex.

Someone they’ll mate with in the haze of wine.

Not valuable enough to make a date with,

You say: “come to my place and will talk my skin to yours —

I’ll make it good for you,” but you couldn’t if you tried.

You have no clue how to give me what I want.

You only want to sweat on me,

I can see the cut on your face where you nicked yourself shaving,

But you don’t look into my eyes,

Your foreplay is weak,

Even worse, your fore- foreplay needs work,

One coffee doesn’t establish a connection,

One lay with you will turns me to tears.

I’m the girl with issues, who doesn’t trust men,

All they do is hurt me, and I’m tired of that pain.

Giving my love in a heart shaped box,

Realizing you don’t give a damn about me.

I’m your midnight call when your body needs release.

Trying to explain, I need what you need too,

I merely have conditions:

You need to love me and be trustworthy,

Before I let you have me.

I need to be attracted to your brains, your heart, your honesty;

And yes your looks too.

Look around you, they’re are many woman,

They may let men like you hurt them,

I don’t; I don’t believe in your kind of —

Magic of a far off land.

Love that doesn’t exist,

It’s fine; I’m happy, it radiates inside me,

Only, two would be so cozy with a dog,

And sweat and skin and kissing hungry lips —

I could be attracted to the ‘right’ someone,

If fortune favours the brave,

If fortune favours those with broken wings.

Fire sizzles; but love abides first.

Don’t tell me how “we’ll sleep with each other first.”

You won’t receive anything,

From my life, you’ll be promptly erased.

Poem: Tanka – “Dirty Skin”

Thanks to The Daily Post for the word prompt dirty.

—–

http://www.polyvore.com

—–

Covered in dust all over,

Dirt caked on every inch of skin.

Brushing particles,

Away from sensitive eyes,

All to see you better — to inhale.

—–

Soap washes away dirt,

But in this heat, hot breeze,

All matter dust sticks,

One never feels clean enough.

Today, I can breathe, you’re gone.

—–

It’s a funny twist,

Your presence makes me feel dirty.

Think skin abrading,

Thoughts, warm my soul, other spots–

Bodies in heat, sweaty, raw.

—–

Toiling in the sun,

Fair skin has no chance, burns.

You’re looking out,

Eyes meet and sensation, wins.

Your walking here, I can’t breathe.

——

You tip my chin up,

Looking into eyes feasting,

Pale meets dark, dirty.

Nights and days never the same,

Washing away dirt, you stay.

—–

Blessed water heals scorch.

But your skin burns mine deeper.

Your eyes look, don’t stop,

Your forever watching me,

Easy smile knows how to replete.

—–

To hot for words, said.

You’ve ruined me for other men.

I’m exalting at sin.

Beads of sweat, on my cheek soft.

Bite my lip, sweat and blood lost.

——

All this dirty skin,

Such a pain to clean again,

Your ‘dirty‘ overwhelms.

Sin I can’t seem to forbid.

When our bodies entangle.

Mineral Makeup: Is It A Good Option for Your Skin?

Bare Minerals Powder
Bare Minerals Mineral Veil Powder http://www.sephora.ca

Mineral makeup is not a ‘new’ thing as many of us believe. “Bare Escentuals” sold it’s mineral makeup in the “1970’s,” launching a new powder foundation they claimed was more “natural” than traditional makeup. Mineral makeup began as an alternative to regular foundation. It’s popularity is due to an increase in people’s knowledge of mineral makeup and demand for makeup with as few artificial ingredients as possible. Although makeup with artificial ingredients has an upside, so does the use of mineral makeup.  Mineral makeup has an absence of “filters” such as “talc, chemical dyes, binders, and chemical preservatives,” as well as having “health benefits,” for the user.

Traditional makeup it is most effective in covering up blemishes on the skin. These products provide coverage but they may prevent the skin from breathing and can “worsen redness, blemishes, and dryness of the skin.” In turn, you may need to wear more traditional makeup products due to these issues if they arise.

Natural makeup on the other hand, can give you similar or better coverage in comparison

Clinique Even Better SPF 15 Liquid Foundation
Clinique Even Better Makeup SPF 15 http://www.sephora.ca

to traditional makeup. Often mineral makeups such as foundations, have a buildable coverage. Many woman claim that mineral makeup gives them a more “natural” appearing makeup look. As if, you are not wearing any foundation at all.

Mineral makeup also has an increased shelf life because it does not encourage the growth of bacteria in the product due to how mineral makeup is made. Products aren’t contaminated as they are with the use of traditional makeup products. Aspects of daily life such as heat, rain, and tears, may cause some traditional makeup to melt off or smear. The same issue does not occur with natural makeup which is resistant to unforeseen aspects our makeup goes through on a daily basis.

Becca Mineral Blush
BECCA Mineral Blush http://www.sephora.ca

When applying mineral makeup, a little goes along way. It is best to build coverage in small shear layers until you have the coverage you desire for your foundation. Always wait until your moisturizer has absorbed into your skin first, before applying mineral makeup.

Nonetheless, “Perry Romanowsksi, author of Can You Get Hooked on Lip Balm? Top Cosmetic Scientists Answer Your Questions About the Lotions, Potions and Other Beauty Products You Use Every Day,” doesn’t think mineral makeup is as great as consumers think.'”All makeup is mineral makeup,'” Romanowsksi says. “‘You’ll find the same mineral ingredients — titanium-dioxide, zinc-oxide, mica, and iron-oxides — in conventional products.'”

Mineral makeup includes ingredients such as “titanium-dioxide” and “zinc-oxide.” These are both products found in sunscreen and can protect the wearer of mineral makeup from the damaging and aging effects of the sun. Romanowsksi suggests, however, that a zinc-oxide mine does not exist, “zinc-oxide is synthesized in a lab.” Also, titanium-dioxide, may start out in a mine but it is refined in a lab undergoing an “extraction and purification process” and this Romanowsksi believes is a healthy procedure because titanium-dioxide from the mine can be “contaminated with mercury and lead.”

One of the best reasons to wear mineral makeup is because it is”non-comedogenic” meaning it is oil free and will not clog pores because it allows the skin to breathe. Although, one should note, many foundations and products that are not mineral products are also non-comedogenic.

What mineral makeup lacks, is what makes it so perfect for your skin. It doesn’t have

“artificial colours, oils, perfumes, or preservatives to clog pores and irritate skin.” A unique combination of “zinc-oxide, iron, mica, iron-oxides, and titanium-dioxides” that have “anti-inflammatory properties,” are helpful for those with problematic skin.

Mineral makeup can help stop conditions such as “acne, eczema, rosacea,” or those with skin which is “sensitive to sun” because of procedures such as “chemical peels.””‘[M]ineral makeup,’ New York dermatologist Neal Schultz, MD says, ‘ . . .is less likely to cause a reaction [for] women with sensitive skin.'” Because mineral makeup “‘doesn’t contain oil, it won’t aggravate acne-prone skin.'”

Today, mineral makeup cannot only be found as a loose powder foundation. You can find “blush, bronzer, eyeshadow, lipstick, liquid foundations,” and other makeup items “presented as mineral products.”

Oddly enough, since mineral makeup has become uber popular, many cosmetics companies have added back to their formulas “the ingredients they omitted when they first introduced mineral products. For instance, after reading the list of [twelve] ingredients in a so-called ‘mineral eye shadow’ from a drugstore” it was hard to tell the difference between the mineral eyeshadow and many other regular drugstore eyeshadows –noted Ni’Kita Wilson.

Wilson says, “it’s impossible for mineral makeup companies to create a liquid foundation with a pared-down ingredients list because microbes thrive in water.” This means many liquid mineral product “formulations . . .include some kind of preservative.” Wilson says, “[w]ithout [preservatives], in liquid foundations [etc.] contaminated products [could] lead to skin infections.”

So, if you have “sensitive skin,” you could see how a “loose mineral foundation” works

for you. Your best bet is to search “for products with the shortest ingredients list.” Even mineral products with a “longer list of ingredients,” mean that there’s a greater chance  “your skin [may] react to” an ingredient in the formulation of the product.

Mineral makeup can also be a good option with people who “don’t have sensitive skin” issues. But you probably want to keep your expectations low. One mineral product such as mineral foundation isn’t going to correct all your skincare problems such as “large pores” or “uneven pigmentation.” You will still need products such as a good primer, concealer, and a “skincare regimen.”

I wanted to provide you guys with a list of some good mineral makeup brands you can take a look at, keeping in mind some of the facts I found out about mineral makeup as I researched it. Many brands only have certain products that they classify as mineral makeup. You can take a look at some of these products from Sephora and then research into the brand to see if they carry other mineral products. Hopefully this list will get you started. You can also go into your local drugstore to see if any drugstore brand makeup carries mineral products. One brand I can think of is Physician’s Formula. Thanks for reading!
