Plush, toasty,

Huddled mass,

Bedsheets cotton crumpled,

Furnace’s ember glows.

Sky clouds,

Dreamy veil.

Screeching cars,
Transposed.

Train whistles,

Downy soft knit throws,

Tangled knots.

Nightmares, quandaries,

Thunder roars,

Rain lashes out,

Dishes clinked,

Crickets laughing.

Duck tapped silence,

Drifting — no wings,

Lethargic before,

Free-falling awake.

They say that,

Real heros have capes, tights;

Uniforms and Bat lights.
They shoot webs,
Like spiders but from,

Their palms.

Flying and leaping,

Over tall buildings.

Their technology is —

Top of the line.

They’re stoic, tough,

Bantering,

Male bonding and showmanship.

Strong shields guard,

Robatic armour too.

Glowing hearts of uranium,

And flying suits.

Hands pulsing lasors.

With green hoods,

Piercing arrows.

Strength that’s incalculable

They’re ages old,

Hundreds or Thousands.

There human or from,

Other dimensions, worlds.

Becoming angry,

Mean and green.
Are blinded but powerful.

Yet few will notice,

Female superheroes,

Their tough outer layers.
They’ve a solid insistence,

For the good of mankind.

They sacrifice as a —

Black Widow or a mutant,

Causing storms.

The Mockingbird or a Scarlet Witch.

The Wolverine’s friend, Rogue.

Women know,

How being gentle,

Is as mighty as Thor’s hammer.

How sensitivity with honed,

Physical skills,

Has an authentic glory.

Not understanding,

Why men keep warring.

Even though —

They know they must.

So, they do too,

Wonder Womans and —

Super girls,

Their skirts shorter.

Slipping into —

Dark corners,

To hide their tears;

Heroic tears

As in a man’s world —

Most men don’t recognize,

The first Wonder Woman,

In their life,

Gave birth to them.

Nurtured them,

Their superpowers hidden,

To be the best —

Moms.

Lords – “Liability”

——–

You’re a little much for me, see

See you’re a liability

Liabilities are costly

Liability, that’s you baby

Baby hurt me so much

Baby left me crying

Crying in the taxi

Crying until I reached home

Home, it’s what I though we had

Home, what’s one broken?

Broken I’m shattered

Broken, he doesn’t need to know

Knowing me, mistake were made

Knowing little, he couldn’t handle trying

Trying to dance in my storm

Trying not to be poisoned

Poison, he said that’s what I was

Poison, that’s what he is

He is poison destructive to me

He is the maker of harsh demands

Demands — I only meet my own now

Demands are so tiring

Tiring, he’s too hard to please

Tiring, he says I’m diseased

Diseased, he’s the one, making ‘us’ decay

Diseased, the man I knew gone

Gone amd there’s no more dancing

Gone, no more love in the dark

Darkness, I’m alone swaying

Dark and alone, dancing alone

Alone too much for him

Alone I’m still dangerous

Dangerous truth: he treats me as a toy

Dangerous and too boring

Boring after doing exciting tricks

Boring after our perfect summer

Summer in my heart hurts

Summer’s turned cold

Cold eating me alive,

Cold cause, you’re all gone

Gone so I’m on my own

Gone, I accept I’m a liability

Liabilities must be forgotten

Liabilities must be shed

Shed so as not to him expose.

Forgotten so I’m never loved.

What if the sky was —

Bright pink? Not blue but —

Hot Pink.

What if during storms,

Sky’s turned scarlet poured,

Red wine.

What if elephants soared,

Wings, ears flapping; trump

eting

What if those with eyes,

Blue or Green now had,

Pink eyes?

Bright orbes reflecting,

Sky violat purple,

with clouds.

What if words meant,

Flowed easily came,

Out swell?

Perfect words; but what —

If all birds talked,

Squabbled

If dogs spoke human?

Understood confessions,

You’ ve shared.

What if tomorrow,

The sky hailed childhood,

Bubblegum

Sand beach, I bury my toes,

Sand squishes between them, I sigh;

Happy.

——

Blue sky so clear, clouds like cotton,

 Feel at home, reading trashy book;

Engrossed.

——

Hearing waves crashing in and out,

Aroma of salt, sea; sun streams;

Sunscreened.

—–

Scents of cocoanut and aloe

SPF 100 or I’ll burn quick;

Smoothed in.

——

Floppy hat and Marilyn swim suit,

Magazines read while the dog splashes;

Relaxed.

——

Blanket soft with a bit of sand,

Jackie.O sunglasses worn;

Content.

——

Wet dog shaking everywhere,

Angry crab in dogs mouth shook;

Laughing

——-

Calm, tranquility; wading in,

Ocean’s rhythm soothes, stops thinking;

Forget.

******

 Sky fading purple; ocean green —

Dark and ominous, storm coming;

Watchful.

——

Rain starts to fall, cold and loud,

Taking umbrella down, packing;

Forced home.

——

Perfect beach moment gone for now,

Sitting in the cabin, storm roars;

Rain pours.

—–

Sleeping in silken covers, dog stretching,

She’s bathed, we’re napping, resting time;

Cuddles.

Saturday Mix Flash Fiction: Soliquey – Blank Verse – “The Con” #amwriting #soliliquey #fiction #SaturdayMix

Thanks to Bastet from MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting Saturday Mix. This week’s prompt is a soliloquy at a train station. I’ll be using blank verse or unrhymed iambic pentameter as the Bard did.

—–

“Imagine a scene, a train is pulling out of the station and a person standing on the platform looking dejected. What can have happened. Perhaps this person is someone in the station wishing to leave but for some reason hasn’t. “

So leaves the train, so leaves my heart,

Why him I once loved, now I know not?

Must have been his eyes so brilliant a green,

Gems such as emeralds, a sea-green storm brewed.

Was it his cavalier smile, his laugh?

With him I felt wanted, weak in the knees.

I was his Queen, he my adoring King.

He cared for me gently, said I shouldn’t stay —

On my own, for he loved me; fooled me,

Underestimated a woman cruelly scorned.

I saw cracks in the vase, facade crumbled,

An artist’s dream of beauty such a fake,

He left, emptied my pockets of money.

This con thinks he’s safe going to Bahamas,

Since he betrayed me, I say differently.

He’ll be doing some flying, and me thinks he’s done.
Thrown off the tallest bridge, out of the train.

Expensive was his end, but I’m appeased

I watched his train moving away, still —

Missing his voice, his touch, time spent loving.

But I know he never loved me, I was ‘means’ —

To an end; yet, the ‘real end’ was his own.

Aurora-borealis paints the sky

Hues of light to charm

Charm the cold from old man winter’s grasp

Charm the sky hovering, colours delightful still

Still as the snow when it stops

Still as the young man in the living room

Room in a home where he’s troubled

Room of the television — loud sports

Sports of the freezing weather

Sports loved best

Best loved is hockey

Best loved he watches, engrained

Engrained in the screen

Engrained in the game

Game on and he misses his wife as she drives away

Game of his wife searching for time

Time ended when she him left

Time is new for her; he doesn’t care now

Now she moves on

Now she is but thrilled

Thrilled, yet in a storm she drives

Thrilled to have escaped without another fight

Fights always happen

Fights which got worse, never stopped

Stopped when she rethought her life

Stopped when she said, “I’m gone”

Gone while the new sliver of a TV loudly plays

Gone, he knows it it, feels depressed

Depressed at the mess of his life

Depressed, slight lines etched into his face

Face with red eyes

Face with mouth stifling sobs

Sobs because she’s gone for good

Sobs because she gazed at him appalled

Appalled because he always yelled

Appalled because he’s why ‘they’re finished

Finished forever, she’s free

Finished, but she’s not safe in such a blizzarding storm

Storm outside flinging snow in his face

Storm outside, her car didn’t make it far

Far off and tired the look in her eyes

Far off but tears streaming ’cause she’s stuck

Stuck in the bank of snow

Stuck in her life, no escape

Escape life here, without him?

Escape yet, she’s glad, for her, he came

Came, so she takes him back; he understands now

Came, so they return to times where they showed

Showed love, affection where no distance divides

Now acts of love, little things, change the future

It was difficult living on the farm, being cutt-off from other people when there was a blinding snow storm for days. Marion felt the numbing loneliness deeply and her husband James only amplified her sense of isolation.

They were still a relatively young couple but James made her feel as if she were old, dull, and boring. He barely acknowledged Marion except when he wanted food. He hadn’t actually conversed with Marion for what felt like years.

She observed as James lived alone in his head, always ignoring her attempts to talk. As the harsh winds and snow isolated them in the farmhouse, James isolated Marion in their marriage.

When the blizzard ended, Marion had had enough. She peered at James one last time and left. She drove to the nearest city and caught a flight home

Darkness was stealing the light of day, taking my weary breath away; I prayed while the cold, careless ocean ripped my feet from the pathway of stone I stumbled down, attempting to reach the lighthouse door.

The storm raged and the sound of thunder, a giant drum rumbled and the clash of lightening frightened me; but above me the lighthouse torch glimmered, a shining beacon glowing in the dark for any passing ship –in my heart grew hope dimly.
I wondered how the Captain of the grand ship approaching, could see when the night was black and the shadow seemed to overcome us both; but I, as was the ships Captain, was blind to think darkness could swallow light; as the gleam of the lighthouse blended with the dawn, I was thankful to have survived a dreadful night, stuck outside the lighthouse door, no one to hear my quivering knocks; the storm surrounded me and roared while I witnessed the grand ship barely miss the rocks — the lighthouse torch grew brighter, just in time.

I’ve lost clarity; it’s obvious, observe —

When I’m peering through dense walls,

Where you disguise your life;

I’m blinded from your changing eyes.

Obsidian pupils, shining as glass;

Solidification of molten lava black.

Rings of green surround pupils.

In certain light, your eyes blackish-green fire;

In another light, they’re a grassy knoll.

I perceive your eyes, understanding you;

When you’re hostil, temperamental;

Your eyes alter colour, swirling into black.

A bitter ocean, a complex green.

Obsidian pupils merge; fight pleasant green.

The storm rages, your eyes stay grating.

As steel and concrete,

You’re cold, unflinching.

——-

When you’re serene and absorbed in life;

Your eyes tint with light,

Glow with presence;

Glimmering alert, understanding.

Conversing comfortably;

Words match your eyes.

Face, sure and bright;

Joy glows from your lips,

The creases in your smile.

Wrinkles, fan your eyes;

You laugh and illuminate my sight.

Your fantastic mood drawing people to you,

My beacon.

——-

But my favourite vantage,

Of your eyes;

Dark pupils focus, adore me slow.

Feeding an ethereal glow;

Throwing off embers of warmth.

Mysterious eyes, wide-open;

Your true-self, no posing.

Brilliant fire of space simmering;

Us a compass twain,

Star dust and nebulas.

You appear almost sleepy,

Eyes perceiving my eyes;

Mood indicators; receptors of feeling.

The lights in all the stars,

Of every universe, combined.

Heat from your heart (and other parts),

Obsidian meeting obsidian sheen;

Aurora Borealis in our eyes gleam.

Waves of heat and colour impress.

Of all the giant and tiny world’s,

Unparalleled; the world we combine.

Nebulas spark across the dark;

Your truth is when you memorize me,
Satisfied smile, softly content.
We’ve conquered stars;

As light is the only source,

Differing our eyes; a genetic defect passed,

Transforming brown, to blue and green;

The Northern Lights,

Enfolding us in time, our space.

Credit: I thought about a lot of John Donne poetry writing this: A Valediction Forbidding Mourning and The Good Morrow mostly. Also, if you haven’t read about why some people have blue or green eyes, when originally, humans only had brown eyes, check-out: Wikipedia – Eye Colour. Turns out blue or green eyes is not a pigment, it has to do with structural colour and the scattering of light in certain conditions.
