——–

The end is never the end. It’s always the the beginning of something.” ― Kate Lord Brown, The Perfume Garden

——-

There once was a beginning, but for us, I think;

We never were, until we were, created in a blink.

Once upon a time there was the Word,

The Word was God; It was with Him to be heard.

All was darkness but the Word was the light

The Word was the cure, it was omniscient insight.

Every spark becomes darkness, but His fire brings dawn.

In the first beginning, his light lit uncountable sparks,

That eternal, all-knowing ‘start’ burning through the dark.

Where beginnings take place; journeys are revealed,

Where life is born, ideas form, the masked are unconcealed.

Beginings that inspire and conspire to grow and leap,

Sparks choosing to expire, or to burn on in the deep.

There is the ‘lighter’ of the spark and the ‘spark’ itself;

Knowledge too that sparks turned cinders, have eternal help.

Every spark become darkness, but His spark brings dawn.

Who knows of endings but that they’re already won,

The ‘Candle-snuffer’ futile fights, his end already come.

He decided his ending forever, when our spark was new,

He’s the one temptation slithered, damnation to all construed.

The eternal light is present, no cinders who ask will end up ash,

Faith is fuel that forever burns, so the term ‘end’ has passed.

Every spark becomes darkness, but His spark brings dawns.

Enchanting child in slumber keep,

Red hair surrounds you as you sleep.

I wait for you to wake from your dreams,

No longer a porcelain doll preened.

*****

A wedding gown white lace so frothy,

Mother hoped your match was lofty.

That you’d found your life partner,

Your prince, your man, for life to start.

*****

But day by day you grew sad,

When pressed with his kisses ran.

Empty feeling inside you grew,

Like a butterfly away flew.

*****

Mischievous child, pain grew,

His fist at your face straight-on flew.

Hiding the bruises with powder,

Not even concealer shrouds

*****

Pride vital to you, tiny doll,
Escaped; no one to catch your fall.
Fly in dreams with delicate wings,

Winter ends, it’s soon your spring.

*****

Gather your courage –call it off;

Don’t marry him, don’t be soft.

In front of the crowd, show each cut,

Let them see bruises, you must.

*****

So they know an abuser,

Isn’t good enough, he’s a loser.

He broke your velvet wings,

Your sanity held by strings.

*****

But it was too late even then,

The lake too close; so your end.

Now you float, butterfly who swims,

Eternity of light your win.

*****

We tried to save a doll of glass,

But on death she shattered, passed.

Down below the water’s dark depth,

She’s tranquil, free; although, she leapt.

*****

Mind too distorted, destroyed,

Lover’s hands threw her like a toy.

World tough; his madness changed them both,

In Heaven she smiles free to float.

*****

He mourns her death each day, each drink,

Pretty soon his rage him too sinks.

Accidents happen to the unaware,

She pulled him in, drowned his despair.

” . . .Don’t get to close its dark inside. It’s where my demons hide, it’s where my demons hide” – “Demons” by Imagine Dragon

——-

They’re people we meet,

In them darkness keeps.

A veil over haunted eyes,

Something telling weighs,

Light badly betrays;

Shadows lift, they’re undisguised

—–

Putting on a face,

Something’s hidden; pace —

Steadily, you’re caught thinking.

Truth can be harmful,

Darkness it swarms.

Seeming ruse has us shrinking.

——

To start, talk awhile;

Some demons revile

Other darkness isn’t asked for it’s,

Unfairly gifted,

Souls broken, shifted;

Waiting for light at home lit.

——-

No one is so lost,

They can’t be reformed.

Shadows hold tightly, a hand —

Gives hope in the dark,

Heals bruising black marks.

Keep helping, say: “Here’s my hand.”

—–

Though darkness found can —

Be fearful, programmed,

In those with no conscience led;

Most people are sought,

It happens a lot;

We’re trapped in nightmares dread

—–

But the light of hope,

In dawn always glows

Derelict souls need help, change,

Is possible;

Not impossible.

Leave no one entrapped; estranged.

——-

Unrestrained, beauty of the game,

Uncontained, no limits are found.

Unrestrained, freedom without shame.

Uncontained, leaping with no sound.

Undetained, words flowing amaze.

Unconvinced mere fantastical,

Undenied creativity

Unconceived all the possibilities,

Undenied art — ingenuity

—–

Art, there is no limits, no bounds,

Start, nothing ventured is the same.

Art, bizarre and odd, they surround.

Start, with words; imagination reigns.

Impart advice: “Do What You Like.”

Dart here, there –no right way exists.

Art, the forms of imagination,

Dart, the fantastical persists

—–

Lento:

” A Lento consists of two quatrains with a fixed rhyme scheme of abcb, defe as the second and forth lines of each stanza must rhyme. To take it a step further, but not required, try rhyming the first and third lines as well as the second and forth lines of each stanza in this rhyming pattern: abab, cdcd. The fun part of this poem is thrown in here as all the FIRST words of each verse should rhyme. There is no fixed syllable structure to the Lento, but keeping a good, flowing rhythm is recommended.”

He peeks at her below a baseball hat,

He’s plays with a match; he doesn’t even —

Realize he’s heading for the flames and —

He’ll be consumed by an inferno fast.

Her lips are scarlet sin, and she is —

Sucking back her whiskey; burning down —

Her soft white throat, it smokes and his gaze means–

He’s buying her next round, with Diet Coke.

Her eyes are amber flashes, synging with —

Coal black and thickened eyelashes; she is —

Fluttering at him; sulphurous voice sings.

Dissolving smoke; she’ll set fire rational.

(Any he had) until he’s choking ashy smoke —

Second -hand; a dangerous demon,

Sitting on his knee; his fantasy he —

Inhales and she’s blackening his weak heart.

She’s burning through his defence and he is–

Lusting for her skin; white ash torching within,

He’s never going to win; she’s hell —

Burning him for sin; passion ignited,

A red lighter starts the desire smoking.

She’ll go through him; like cigarettes lit,

Feeding her ire, her desire; he’s on trial.

Pointed heels lost, fire engine red toes peek,

He worships at her feet, and she consumes him.

She stands flames enveloping her; within her.

Enthralling curves and eyes seeing inside him,

Thawing out the cold; she’ll burn him down.

Raging inferno of heat, flames will kill him.

A pile of ashes she leaves in his stead.

Poem: Quatrains – “Fight and Fly”

Thanks to The Daily Post for the word prompt fight.

Flying Birds

—-

Troubled pearl, thoughts awhirl,

Spinning fast, life makes you hurl,

Never stops, never just right.

Make your own moments, win that fight.

—–

Sifting sands go through my hands.

Spheres off beaches, white grande.

Dreams of blue water, clear and dense,

Without sharks, that makes sense.

—-

Sharks of land so much sicker,

Make a woman fear as life flickers,

Red red roses, blood dripping down,

Trickling lifelessness without a sound,

—-

Daggers thrust in open hearts,

No one goes far, not able to start.

Words of fear and words said in haste,

Looks like living, isn’t chaste.

—–

Tricked clever, by events out of control,

Lessons learned from life’s list of roles.

Talking quietly, whispering secrets;

Who needs those words — awful secrets.

—-

Blazing eyes go forth and vent,

Tell me the way to happiness, invent —

New ways to find strength, and flight

Don’t you know the best way, fight.

—-

Hidden hands, bowed in prayer,

Why is life so utterly tinged, `beware,`

Go the way angels do, dive in blue skys,

Flutter with purpose, learn to fly.

Oh What a Rush to the Start

Prompt: Take a line from a song that you love or connect with. Turn that line into the title of your post.

——

Coldplay, “The Scientist.”

(Please go onto my blog page to see this music video if you can’t see it here.)

——-

I was just guessing at numbers and figures, pulling the puzzles apart. Questions of science, science and progress, do not speak as loud as my heart. Tell me you love me, come back and haunt me, oh what a rush to the start. – “The Scientist.” Coldplay

——–

If you’ve watched the music video for the song “The Scientist,” by the band Coldplay, you understand in the music video you experience the story of the ‘the scientist’ (Chris Martin’s role) in reverse. Martin the lead singer of Coldplay plays the ‘the scientist’ in the music video and begins the music video lying on a random mattress outside of a residence and he moves backwards throughout the entire day.

We see ‘the scientist’ eventually return to a scene of an accident where his girlfriend was killed. She comes back to life and we are taken back to a point where she is taking off her jacket instead of putting it on, and doing up her seat belt, instead of taking it off. Hence, we know why the girlfriend crashes through the wind shield later — no seat belt.

At the end of the music video, ‘the scientist’ and his girlfriend are a happy couple on a regular day driving. Martin sings, “I’ll take you back to the start,” at the end of each of the choruses and it’s because ‘the start,’ his time with his girlfriend before the car accident was wonderful.’The scientist’ merely wants to be with his girlfriend as before.

The second verse — the quote provided — always seemed Frankensteinish to me. The main character played by Martin alludes to himself being a scientist and is like the mad scientist in Frankenstein “guessing at numbers and figures” and “pulling the puzzles apart” trying to make time go back to a point where his girlfriend is still alive. But unlike a mad scientist, this scientist discovers “questions of science, science and progress, do no speak as loud as [his] heart.”

‘The scientist’ Martin plays, feels his love for his girlfriend and his desire to see his girlfriend is beyond the answers all scientific progress can provide him. He wants for science to help him, to make his girlfriend alive, but science doesn’t have that capability. He wants to hear is his girlfriend “tell [him she] love[s him].” ‘The scientist’ wants memories of his girlfriend to “come back and haunt him.” He wants everything to go back to the way they were before the car accident — at the beginning. It’s why he sings, “oh what a rush to the start,” at the end of this verse.

In his mind ‘the scientist’ wants the past back. He can’t have it back because that’s not how science or reality works. You can’t go back to the past except through your memories. You can only live the present and look forward to the future. Coldplay’s song “The Scientist,” speaks of  ‘the scientist’s wish for his memories to be real again, to be the present, to go “back to the start” and be with his beloved. For me, “The Scientist” is a distressing song and has always touched my heart. It makes me sad thinking about ‘the scientist’s’ predicament.

What if you could return to the past and change something, would you, if science provided you with the capability? I think if nothing else, this song tells me that the whole concept of love and emotion is not scientific or not only. There is something about love and our desire to be with our loved ones, which goes beyond science and is a matter of the heart: “The heart has reasons which reason cannot understand,” as the saying goes. Listening to this song tells me even though people believe we as a society are advanced in science, we are not as advanced as we would like to believe. There are emotions and feelings science will never truly be able to explain.

Sonnet “Loss”

The pain that stings within my heart

When you decided to depart

It felt like I would fall apart

At the littlest sound I start.

I am in grief and it is bitter sweet

The memories we made follow me

But I have  no sight I cannot see

The spark that flew isn’t heat

Now I pray, release, release.

Answer me once, forget me not

Don’t leave me here to beg and rot

Have you no pity I need peace

Grant me some time so I know

You did not just throw me away.
