Shivering as if I’m shedding,

As if I’ll never know heat;

Or a belly without ache.

Crisp bacon and sausage sizzles,

French toast with cream cheese;

Clouds of whipped cream,

Maple syrup flowing in valleys;

Sweet strawberry jam,

Tart on my tongue,

The crisp-softness of toast;

Homemade bread devoured.

Orange juice with champagne,

Sweetness and fizzing bubbles.

Chatter, hands passing,

Sniggers and giggles;

Raising the bar; the bets are laid —

Who can eat the most pancakes?

There is plenty in this dream,

Richness and generosity abounds —

Reality’s barren and frosted.

No warmth of hugs or arms over shoulders,

Until a burning stillness settles.

The sensation of hovering above,

Until your firefly soul lifts.

The memory of family, breakfast with ice-cream,

Strawberry sauce and flaked croissants;

Of food so boundless that all gnawing hunger’s abolished.

No daydream with clawing pains,

Only serenity, path into a place —

Where loved ones suffer not.

Where there’s no war to justify —

No battle to survive;

Nor land that will not thaw to grow.

Above, there’s glowing prosperity,

A joyfulness that never pales.

No ice-white skin preserved in chill,

No forever winter.

A flame that flickers and overwhelms,

Sparks and heat spread,

As butter melts on fresh bread.

Reflecting on golden streets,

A feast as none knew before.

Temporality extinguished,

The relief of a forever home

Not hunger nor strife.

It’s unimaginable,

But after all the misery —

This stairway’s an easy flight.

Flash Fiction for the Purposeful Practitioner:  Wing Walker on the Stairway to Heaven.

 Fighter airplanes were used by the allies in their efforts against Hitler and the triple axis.

When the plans arrived home and were repaired, wing walkers such as Genia performed acrobatics on the wings of the fighter planes.

The boys who flew them were a gas. Genia had great times with them at the nearest dance hall. That’s where she met Andy.

Andy was handsome and he cracked Genia up. He was an ace pilot who hadn’t returned from his last mission months ago. Genia knew he’d been dropped.

She was light on her feet and Genia lived for adrenaline, performing for the airforce and providing entertainment to keep people’s mind off of the war.

A pilot who liked Genia, Chester, had taken her up that day as the crowds clapped and shouted from below.

Genia worked on her new routine, knowing she was attached to the plans wing if she fell. She heard something snap and the snapping caught her off balance.

Chester watched in horror as Genia fell from the sky, an acrobatic beauty on the stairway to heaven.

Genia felt “she’d been waiting years for this day,” to be with Andy at last.

Poem: Wrapped Refrain – “Words on the Stairway ”

——

Back to my favourite rhymes I go,

Keep the rhythm quick as we flow,

Appeares that writing voice is back,

No need now for all your life hacks,

The refrain encapsulates vision, souring high.

The grandest place to thrive, creativity cries.

—–

Incased in suits, all bullet proof.

Meaning of powersuit, not aloof.

Fluttering new wings of glory,

Touching heaven, sparks gold stories.

Raining down vocabulary, feeling prose.

Writing anyways in poems, how this writer’s mind grows.

Round in circles, form graceful dances ever-glowing.

——

Phoenix rising, as he spins.

Diving down, prey on fish with fins.

Consuming all the rhymes precision.

No one can claim indecision,

Choose the words, that force you far into a whirlpool.

Round you’ve spun, twirling; time granted swirling jewels.

——

Another verse rises, ascending,

Riding stairways, crescendoing.

Flying the stairway to heaven,

Lyrics, mana, and nectar; times seven.

Wings of angels, spirits, enchant; singing —

Back to my favourite anthem of life, song ringing.
