Shivering as if I’m shedding,

As if I’ll never know heat;

Or a belly without ache.

Crisp bacon and sausage sizzles,

French toast with cream cheese;

Clouds of whipped cream,

Maple syrup flowing in valleys;

Sweet strawberry jam,

Tart on my tongue,

The crisp-softness of toast;

Homemade bread devoured.

Orange juice with champagne,

Sweetness and fizzing bubbles.

Chatter, hands passing,

Sniggers and giggles;

Raising the bar; the bets are laid —

Who can eat the most pancakes?

There is plenty in this dream,

Richness and generosity abounds —

Reality’s barren and frosted.

No warmth of hugs or arms over shoulders,

Until a burning stillness settles.

The sensation of hovering above,

Until your firefly soul lifts.

The memory of family, breakfast with ice-cream,

Strawberry sauce and flaked croissants;

Of food so boundless that all gnawing hunger’s abolished.

No daydream with clawing pains,

Only serenity, path into a place —

Where loved ones suffer not.

Where there’s no war to justify —

No battle to survive;

Nor land that will not thaw to grow.

Above, there’s glowing prosperity,

A joyfulness that never pales.

No ice-white skin preserved in chill,

No forever winter.

A flame that flickers and overwhelms,

Sparks and heat spread,

As butter melts on fresh bread.

Reflecting on golden streets,

A feast as none knew before.

Temporality extinguished,

The relief of a forever home

Not hunger nor strife.

It’s unimaginable,

But after all the misery —

This stairway’s an easy flight.

Humming,

As the bird who’s —

Thrumming in the air,

Struggling for each flutter so

Rapid; so utterly fast it’s blurring.

My wings in flight are haze to you,

You don’t see underneath;

Desperation,

Humming.

——

Darkness,

Arising in —

My stomach, spiraling,

To the surface out of my —

Broken soul that I mend in those worlds found,

In each and every story, novels —

Ending hiding; I’m no —

Crab in my shell’s —

Darkness.

——-

In dreams,

I writhe, I twist,

Tales of old and new —

Follow me when enters Sandman,

To calm adventures stripping me of sleep.

But just as I live in my books,

I live in nightmarish —

Tales at midnight,

In dreams.

——-

Awake,

Oh, sheltered one.

Let the black smoke rise, cleanse

Your body from your shattered self,

Set free your mind, let your spirit live,

Life’s the greatest adventure,

Stories read fill gaps;

Burst forth spirit,

Awake.

———

Cherries,

You’re sexy  as,

Women who curl cherry —

Stems into knots with skillful tongues.

Unafraid to bare your body,

When it’s appreciated.

With love, you expose your —

Soul; All for ripe

Cherries.

—-

As books,

Sweet red cherries,

From the Okanagan,

A valley of delicacies.

Driving through B.C. in summer, you —

Stop at every fruit stand,

Selling juicy fruit — truths;

Cherries savored,

As books.

—–

Smokescreen,

Floats up swirls as —

Papal smoke; the blackness,

Forgiven reading thousands

Of tales, every genre, every language.

Devouring ‘reads’ as cherries,

Demons gone; living with —

Wisdom taught, no —

Smokescreen.

——

Light’s glow,

In each tale read.

Nourishes souls; keeps me —

Aching to learn, wanting to know,

Of worlds, fantastic characters —

With hubris, compelling charm.

While some characters are —

Searching hard for,

Light’s glow.

—–

Writing,

It filled holes,

Torn in souls, in hearts wrecked,

The reader became author,

Discovering within her fingers lies a —

Haven, a solace of peace, rest;

Because the story grows —

In her, exposing —

Writing.

Tale Weavers: Poem – Ninefold – “Snow and Spirit” #amwriting #poetry #taleweavers

The prompt for last week’s Tale Weaver is outside your front door. Thanks to MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting.

Outside the door, the snow blows so cold,

Shivering turning our faces too bold;

Seeing beauty of the white world old.

Here the winds bite at our skin, they turn —
Bare skin numb in seconds outside learn —

For now stay inside be warm discern

The soft fragility floating round air,

Calls to our soul, beyond reason to care,

Find peace and in Christmas spirit share.

I see endurance in you.

Climbing the mountain,

You’re prepared, capable

You’ve focus, faith, you’re hopeful

Don’t lose your spirit,

Love survives,

Through.

—-

There,

When you need.

Love intercedes;

You’re suffering has such —

Purpose, your future awaits.

Love is in you, you’re —

Worthy,

Of.

—–

Don’t,

Surrender.

You’re good enough, you’ve

Built a strong relationship,

And you love with your whole heart.

Don’t doubt, keep your faith

Love you give —

Helps.

November Notes: Poem – Day 3 – Italian Sonnet – “Bleeding Rose” #amwriting #novembernotes #poetry

——

You don’t see what you’re doing, caught dreaming.

Babe stole my life away, rockstar crazy.

Didn’t know I needed him, smoker hazing.

Fitting in his life, guitar notes streaming.

Babe you forgot me, her fur coat gleaming.

Versace, one of everything, likes daisies.

Never thought you were more than just lazy.

Alone in this room, a woman cries fleeing.

——

Chill of winter of in her bones that girls gone,

She left with you, her spirit trailing smoke.

Didn’t you hear the fire alarm? She lost hope.

Winters cold to marrow of bones, bitter song,

Bullets hit, and then she’s gone; did you love her?

Your phone calls rang; all here smelt blood’s tang.

Maydays: Poem – Wrapped Refrain – “To the Water” #Maydays

—–

Thank you to K.L. Caley of new2writing for hosting #Mayday prompts. Today’s prompt is a tale about water.

——

http://www.galmeetsglam.com

——

When I’m feeling down and upset,

When life’s challenged me to forget,

I travel to the sea, waves aquamarine.

Bathing suite, sunglasses, and sunscreen.

On a beach  spending time rejuvenating, sleeping.

Better to vacation then let life overtake feelings.

——

Can’t allow life to depress you,

Work through it with waves blue,

Walkng shore, water washes away,

Stress and trial, giving free sway.

See you spend your time in the oceans water tumbling,

Carefree, smile returns, spirit glows, ire crumbling.

—–

So set your spirit free swimming,

See the sun on water glimmer.

Let the kids play with floating toys,

In shallow water laughing joy,

A beach day was all you needed to let go life’s pain.

When I’m feeling low, water aides, even merely, rain.

Poem: “Words”

Thanks to the Daily Post for yesterday’s and today’s word prompts Refresh and Voice.

—–

The right words to write, don’t happen each day,

When you only want to lie on the couch and let,

Each and every word in your head drift away.

It’s not as if what you write has to be set.

—-

That the lines all have to be one length.

That all lines have to be the correct amount of syllables.

Some days there is no power in your writing voice –no strength,

And your rhyme isn’t on, rhythm too is dribble.

—-

I write and half-way through I feel a need for a refresh.

Wipe the page clean, type something later when life makes sense.

It isn’t as if life is especially pressing,

It’s only that right now — I don’t make sense.

—–

Maybe life needs to feel refreshing again,

Maybe, your spirit needs to feel alive,

Before you can say exactly, what you mean to gain,

By writing these words down, and to let them thrive.

——

We need only find our writing voice in the everyday world,

Searching for a place we can be heard.

I don’t know why but my thoughts are awhirl,

I’m still searching for the right words.

Poem: Wrapped Refrain – ” Innocent Missteps”

Thanks to The Daily Post for the word prompt misstep.

—–

http://www.saintandrewstwinflame.com

—–

Counting steps up the narrow stairs,

Games, children play so unawares,

Tall steps and short legs, possibly mean,

Tumbling fall, missteps unseen.

Watch where you step little one, off the given path,

Dangerous sights behold, adventures calling, laugh.

—–

Down through the trees and the bushes,

Walking past creatures, no ‘shushes.’

Imagination overtaking,

Vivid thoughts, young spirit awakes,

Missteps taken, no words to say, yet grinning.

Turning round the beaten path, which way? Spinning.

——

Child alone on empty forrest way,

Terror pronounced evil, child fey.

Innocent one, not so innocent.

Ready to pounce, so indifferent.

Terror worse then, lion, tiger or bear; pointed teeth.

Counting steps, hunter of the midnight hour, she’s unleashed.

Sunday Photo Fiction: Babel Falling

I was curiously studying the buildings downtown. Especially a building shaped like an elongated pyramid. It was under construction and would be the tallest building there was. It felt out of place to me. Like the Tower of Babel  built to the heavens. I think it was a mistake to build it so high.

It made me think of the pyramids where the Egyptian Pharohs were buried. Pyramids built by slaves who toiled and died. It was hard work to toil so high in the sky. This tower also made me think of the Inca’s and the ziggurats on which they sacrificed an innocent person, cutting out their hearts for their blood thirsty gods.

I observed something was wrong high up on the elongated pyramid. I heard the squeak of steel and I cringed when I heard the breaking of glass shattering. Pieces of the building began to plummet to the streets below. I tried to avoid them. The closer the pieces come, I understand. I am a sacrifice. The tower of Babel is falling. That is what happens when you pay only enough money for near slave labour. I cast my eyes to the heaven in prayer as a piece of metal silences my thoughts.

Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writers: Through a Skeleton’s Eyes.

Surprise! I’m the skeleton in the classroom where you have Anatomy. An interesting aspect: the top half of my skull isn’t mine, it’s fake.

Once I was a pretty girl of nineteen named Iris. I ran up to the dorm to watch movies with a bunch of the guys from the hockey team. My guy was the goalie. Travis made everyone laugh. But I stopped laughing when I went to see him in his dorm room when he was sick.

I opened his door and there was this fake and bake cheerleader on top of Travis moaning. I shrieked and I dragged the naked cheerleader by her hair to the door.

Suddenly, the cheerleader became free and hit me hard on my head with Travis’ favourite hockey stick. I could hear my head crack, distantly. The cheerleader hit me again viciously. I remember Travis crying but doing nothing to stop her.

So, Yes. This was my skeleton, but I’m not tied to it. Only, my spirit  hangs about here. I’m stuck on campus where they covered up my murder. The cheerleader slut and Travis went free. They didn’t live long.
