Poem: Italian Sonnet – “For a Bed” #amwritingpoetry

Written the first night sleeping in my own bed after a month and a half away.

Odd ditty penned, but it’s a dire matter;

Time since I rested in powder-puff hug.

Since I eased in downy-feathers snug.

It’s softness no hospice mattress combats.

Nor it’s cotton-candy duvet flatters.

Pillows topple, soft petal-cotton sheets —

Breath; my body sighs where it’s velvet, skin meets.

Near two-months since I lay swathed in satin.

So grateful was I for home to heal, still —

Wasn’t my bed, blankets twisting while dreams fill.

Oh, how I missed my marshmallow mattress —

But, I ache — some know not sleeps hiding place.

In Cloud-bed find I deepest-drowsy sleep,

Still, the darkness lingers in my mind creeps.

Whitney’s mane is downy faun combed smooth. Her coat is the softest chestnut against my skin and I pull my sore body onto her saddle; I bury my hands in the warmth of her coat. Whitney let’s out a slight whinny instantly recognizing my scent as I rub my face in her mane and scratch her ears; I dig my knees into her sides and she leaps forward, continuing the journey to nowhere.

#OctPoWriMo 27/Music Challenge:  “I Swear I Lived” #amwriting #poetry #musicchallenge

OctPoWriMo 27 has a theme based on our favorite flowers. Somehow I’m going to combine this prompt with MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie Music Challenge song on “I lived by OneRepublic.

“I lived” – OneRepublic

——

With every broken breath,

I swear I lived.

Pettles in my hands, soft, floating in the wind.

Never forget to slow down,

Tred through daisies.

As our dogs on their walks,

Burying our nose in the fragrance.

Inhaling life with resilience,

Clutching each moment,

As if it’s the last.

Not afraid to touch —

The sun and run,

Using each spare second.

Fearless with triumph,

A will to survive

Ignore the broken bones,

They’ll heal, don’t build walls,

Despite stumbling hard.

Get back up,

Carry on soldier.

Give it all you have, unafraid to jump,

Raising your cup as the sun goes down,

Toasting the journey.

And with —

Choppy breath rasping,

Gaspimg for air,

Own every broken breath,

For every tranquil —

Glittering moment in life,

Keep pushing to survive.

Bring meaning into moments,

Where you’re  —

Fighting to live,

When you realize that life,

Is the blessing you always desired.

Sunday Photo Fiction: The Dragon Keeper #amwriting #flashfiction #dragons

Thanks to Alistair Forbes for hosting SPF last week!

Leisbeth crooned to her pet dragon, Brand. She had raised him from when he was nothing but a babe, pushing his way out of his golden egg.

Brand would never be a huge dragon, but he was worth a lot of money to many people.  His scales, his wings, and his teeth were valuable so Leisbeth protected him. She cared for his wounds from hunting for large animals and after locals injured him.

Despite being gentle, Leisbeth could be fierce. She knew she was fragile, but she possessed a gift, sorcery not even Brand knew she possessed.

In turn, Brand was Leisbeth’s protector. He knew she was a soft woman, her voice small and melodic. Her hands uncalloused and her long blond hair shiny and flowing. All these traits of beauty put her in danger.

She knew nothing of the cruel world, that men spilled blood, both dragon and human for small amounts of silver. Brand still remembered the screams of his dragon parents slaughtered, as he fought his way from his golden egg. He was tiny then, but he remembered their terrified roars.

However, Liesbeth had saved him so they would always be together. Brand would protect her inherit gentleness while she would guard him with her magic. Those who would hurt her intelligent companion would regret it.

To Leisbeth, Brand was her friend who in private, loved to be held and stroked. Both their abilities would keep the other alive for thousands of years.

“I could recognise his soul in mine as much as he could find me in his. Our sole existences seemed to have been for this very moment when nothing else mattered.” X. Williamson (Distract My Hunger)

They air outside was warm, the taste of spring sprung,

Lilacs on my lips, flavor of crisp leaves.

In the garden, scent of spring on my tongue.

The air outside was warm, the taste of spring sprung.

Inhaling soft florals, fragrance in my lungs.

Breathing in and out, tastes chase what I’m grieving.

The air outside was warm, the taste of spring sprung,

Lilacs on my lips, flavor of crisp leaves.

———

It is nothing to die. It is frightful not to live.” ― Victor Hugo, Les Misérables

———

Such a tiny space I’ve ended in,

No satin lining, pillow, or light.

Shelved next to others kept,

Hear in this wall, directed,

The family not to pay for,

More than an urn,

But why, ask I,

Am I in,

This wall,

Left.

—–

It’s,

Easy,

To understand,

You didn’t want me —

Reminding  you, who I —

Used to be alive and whole.

That my ashes in an urn could,

Easily fall, ending up on the floor.

I’m wondering death, if you laugh at this?

——

If you comprehend my annoyance clear,

That my ashes weren’t scattered far  —

Into the park, the Off-leash trails,

Or into the water,

To a place of peace.

No walls for me,

Take my remains,

Death, cast them —

To the,

Wind.

——-

At,

First I,

Had many,

Questions,

But I knew you took,

All you needed of,

What was left of me.

And we’re no longer foes who are —

Bound to time; so you explain the whys,

Fill in the wherefores, gazing ahead soft.

——

Kingdom of light, love, facing the Heavens,

Death says this is the right place and —

I pray he isn’t wrong, for all —

Is revealed here in the —

House me Father built.

His mansion with —

Many rooms for —

The faithful,

Those souls,

Won. .

——

So,

Death you —

Have not your,

Victory.

Death you have no sting,

And in eternity,

All questions are answered,

Tranquility comes knowing,

The reason for everything —

The cross on Calvery, God’s love divine.

Please don’t take my man, just because you can,

Your beauty is immeasurable, unique,

I wish my man wasn’t who you were seeking.

I know my request you don’t understand,

You can love again and do it easily.

I wish you didn’t make him feel so pleased,

He loved me before your auburn hair strands,

Brushed past his face, and made him so weak.

Please don’t take my man, just because you can.
——

Please don’t take my man, just because you can.

Your voice so soft like summer rain, laughing,

Your sense of humour for him attractive.

You float through life a stunning star ambling,

Not thinking of women like me you hurt.

Your seduction done so freely, not worth —

The heartache you cause just because you can.

I can’t love again, so value what you have,

Please don’t take my man, just because you can.

100 Word Wednesday: A Chocolate Seduction #amwriting #flashfiction #100WordWednesday

Sweet dark chocolate slides across my tongue, the richness of chocolate icing soft and creamy; the moist cake, competing for flavour with the icing. It’s sweetness allows one to eat it slowly. Too much cake at once would ruin the experience and leave me with an upset stomach. But each bite savoured with pleasure and a bit of vanilla ice cream, ensures my scrumptious chocolate cake is a heavenly experience.

Across the table you wink, you knew it was my favourite cake and you ordered it for me. Our eyes hold as you eat your own cake and I absorb every ounce of chocolate flavour in mine; eating cake becomes seduction

Enchanting child in slumber keep,

Red hair surrounds you as you sleep.

I wait for you to wake from your dreams,

No longer a porcelain doll preened.

*****

A wedding gown white lace so frothy,

Mother hoped your match was lofty.

That you’d found your life partner,

Your prince, your man, for life to start.

*****

But day by day you grew sad,

When pressed with his kisses ran.

Empty feeling inside you grew,

Like a butterfly away flew.

*****

Mischievous child, pain grew,

His fist at your face straight-on flew.

Hiding the bruises with powder,

Not even concealer shrouds

*****

Pride vital to you, tiny doll,
Escaped; no one to catch your fall.
Fly in dreams with delicate wings,

Winter ends, it’s soon your spring.

*****

Gather your courage –call it off;

Don’t marry him, don’t be soft.

In front of the crowd, show each cut,

Let them see bruises, you must.

*****

So they know an abuser,

Isn’t good enough, he’s a loser.

He broke your velvet wings,

Your sanity held by strings.

*****

But it was too late even then,

The lake too close; so your end.

Now you float, butterfly who swims,

Eternity of light your win.

*****

We tried to save a doll of glass,

But on death she shattered, passed.

Down below the water’s dark depth,

She’s tranquil, free; although, she leapt.

*****

Mind too distorted, destroyed,

Lover’s hands threw her like a toy.

World tough; his madness changed them both,

In Heaven she smiles free to float.

*****

He mourns her death each day, each drink,

Pretty soon his rage him too sinks.

Accidents happen to the unaware,

She pulled him in, drowned his despair.
