What songs do you sing?

As the evening bell peels,

What notes make your heart feel real?

What melody do you go to sleep by?

The softest and most beautiful voice,

Singing in your ear,

A mother to her child,

Rubbing your cheeks.

What songs do you sing?

As you play your favourite tunes?

Those remembered from bygone days?

The most popular hits, fantastic or plastic?

What notes invade your mind?

Parts of a song playing over again,

Because you love a section so much,

You could hear it fifty times.

What songs do you sing?

To guide your heart through pain,

What songs make you heal?

Make you angry and feel used?

Such a brilliance of tunes and melodies exist,

What’s your heart song?

The one only you and God know,

The most beautiful words,

Your Grandma used to sing,

Or your Dad made up for you as a child.

What songs do you sing?

May they be be sung load and clear,

For within music we find a soul connection,

With each and every person alive.

It’s that favourite song on a Saturday night,

Everyone belts out and sings.

It’s the song of you and your beloved together.

It’s the song as you pass from this life to the next.

What songs do you sing?

Only you know the vital songs,

The tunes you won’t forget,

The ones that tremble out your lips,

On the brink of death,

Your heart songs are clear,

In the end let no one ask,

What songs do you sing?

For knowing you they will know,

The melody of your life, your purpose met.

NaPoWriMo: Poem – Minor FT Creature – Minute – “Twittering”

And now, for our prompt (optional as always!) Just as Rosa Jamila’s poems often sound like they come out of a myth or fairy tale (and not always one with a happy ending), today I challenge you to write a poem in the voice of minor character from a fairy tale or myth. Instead of writing from the point of view of Cinderella, write from the point of view of the mouse who got turned into a coachman. Instead of writing from the point of view of Orpheus or Eurydice, write from the point of view of one of the shades in Hades who watched Eurydice leave and then come back. Happy writing!

For more information please see NaPoWriMo

The bird who sings melodically posed,

Twitter exposed,

Singing with notes,

Snow White songs wrote.

—-

Voice of angel, bird sings lyrics,

Fly spherical,

No matter when,

Melodies send.

—-

Eating crisp red apple, evil hag gives,

Her eyes wide strive,

Eat not apple,

Eve’s own pupil.

—–

Dimly lit girl, breath of life left her,

Creatures of fur,

Point to a Prince

This Prince, I wince.

—–

A bird, Snow calls, tweets melodies.

Kiss. Two lovelies.

All well, I’ve heard.

Stop calling birds.

—–

A birds, not just harmony.

Mates eventually,

Songs for blue eggs,

Snow White she begs —

Let the birds be free,

You’ve no need of our twittering.

Look online now,

Our page is overpopulated.

Poem: Free Verse – ” Writing Freedom of Art”

. Poetry is just the evidence of life. If your life is burning well, poetry is just the ash. ― Leonard Cohen

What do you do when there is no freedom in art? When your controlled by rhyme schemes,

By repetition and meter?

I thought this was creativity and freedom,

No one said I had to sign on the dotted line,

No one told me these forms we’ve created are stencils,

And stencils, don’t allow for drawing outside the lines,

If there is no freedom elsewhere, give me liberty of art.

To write in every and any form, to choose the guides we’re taught,

Though I love a fantastic rhyme and a a unique poetry type,

I’m getting lost behind all the hype,

Whatever became of free expression?

Words that tumbled out of you that had no edges,

They came out and simply were,

They are;  you can’t conform these thoughts,

They’re not meant to be placed in parallelograms,

To exist inside triangles, or even in infinity,

These words only are, and exist because they must,

Aren’t these words the language of your heart screaming out,

Your art in the form you can honestly behold and serve,

Finding strangers to comprehend this secret language is absurd,

Each heart speaks so significantly and in it’s own dialect.

We know the words, but do we know how they connect the lines back to a person,

Their inner most thoughts and feelings,

Passions running high and talent divides,

Those who run with freedom of words and say as they like,

Those that let the heart-words speak in loud voice,

Those who nurture a writer’s spirit know only,

The driving need and insistence laid upon your spirit when you were gifted with your voice.

This art that calls, jeers, and whispers; never giving way.

Zooming out to restful images of nature, lying in the grass where you can finally breathe.

Not suffocate on iambic pentameter, or be caught in couplets or quatrains.

Idyllic pastoral poetry might give you reprise,

Floating on clouds, powder puffs in the sky,

Sifting bare feet in sand and jumping as the tide licks your feet.

Writing your secrets of peace and tranquility; the sane that stops the insane,

Art still calls as a lark in the morning, a jaybird singing melodically,

Free-verse, or prose poetry, the futuristic form of many a poet,

A burden of the old and the new, confiding they find each other crude,

But any voice who has a song, just sing, your words or story,

Your words are diamonds, polished or rough, waiting to explode in jewelled luminescence.

Waiting to be incense to a world who needs to hear, breathe in the smoke of truth; have your Liberty.

Freedom of voice, it’s an art to be free to write,

What strikes you at the time, and to be able to stop, when exhaustion lingers,

To not be chained to an inner voice who constantly begs, “write.”

To let out that voice when you wish and write in your chosen method.

No stencils, merely pen and paper.

Maybe keys on the iPad, as it glows white light into midnight.

Day 19 – NaPoWriMo – Landays – ” That Song”

I think if you saw the world through my eyes I think you would be surprised that we share,

Vividly beautiful melodic music and the rushing of sound as it goes by and we try;

To capture a moment, a harmony, no cacophony, but pure unadulterated sound

You would look at the morning, the twilight the dawn, and see it in ways you have never seen before.

You could capture the melody of a serene soulful day and put it in words to say,

The awe striking beauty of nature and glory, the pull of music as it drifts and carries you in.

The hilight of every bird is its song, and as it sings, stand motionless and hear it coo,

Of rain, and the flowers, the trees, and nector, of an essence that drugs you with delight and;

The call of the ages, the dawn of time, it reminds you of Edan, though you’ve never seen it;

It’s a memory deep inside of your being as old as time itself and starlight dances and,

The moon beams high, the day is ending goodbye, goodbye come back with me to glowing places in sky.

Return with me tomorrow morning to that sound that shivers and quivers with life.

Beyonce: Singing a Song to Make A Dying Girl’s Wish Reality

Beyonce

Yesterday, I was particularly touched by singer Beyonce Knowles who granted the wish of a 12-year old girl dying from cancer from an inoperable brain tumor. It made me proud that Beyonce would be willing to share her talent and her time with someone so meek and in some people’s awful view, a lost cause. Beyonce went beyond simply caring and actually made a beautiful important girl’s wish come true.

Taylon Davis made a wish through the Make-A-Wish Foundation to sing a song and dance with Beyonce. In Las Vegas, Beyonce, at her Mrs. Carter tour, made Taylon’s wish reality. Days after learning she would attend the concert, Taylon found herself face to face and embraced by her beloved pop-star Beyonce while Beyonce sang to her ‘Survivor’ from Beyonce’s days with former group ‘Destiny’s Child.’

‘Survivor’s’ lyrics held great meaning for Taylon, especially the words, ” I’m a survivor / I’m gonna make it / I will Survive / Keep on Surviving.” Said McGregor of the Philanthropy Program Partnerships, ” Here’s a little girl literally fighting for her life, [t]omorrows not promised, next weeks not promised, but now [Taylon thinks] I’m here, [and s]ince I’m here I might as well live(Michael Walsh).

On Christmas Eve, Beyonce released the video of the performance and Taylon’s story on YouTube. This is not the first time Beyonce has done a touching song and dance with one of her fans. In November, Beyonce performed ‘Irreplaceable’ with a blind 13-year old girl from Australia (Toronto Star, Wenn.com).

It was incredibly touching to watch the videos Beyonce released on Taylon and their song together, not only because Beyonce was giving a wonderful generous experience to Taylon during a season of giving but because Beyonce was giving Taylon hope. Hope I think, is one of the greatest gifts you can give someone, especially a child, and even if it is only the hope that Taylon will live out the rest of her young life with fantastic memories and people who love her such as her family. Maybe even a pop-superstar actually cares about Taylon because Beyonce is willing to give Taylon her time, voice, and dancing to aid Taylon in achieving her dreams.

I can’t imagine being in Taylon’s place, knowing you don’t have much time left in this world but are so young that you have barely experienced what it is to live. On the other hand, perhaps it is enviable that Taylon will not go through more pain than her cancer because she will only live such a short time. Either way, I think Taylon is a strong and brave 12-year old girl and I think Beyonce is the perfect role model for someone her age to show her how to keep on fighting to the end and to spend time with those she loves and live all the dreams she can fit into her young life.
