——

Was such a dreary night forewarned,

In dirt squiggled both bugs and worms.

For they too felt doom bemoaning,

To be out on this night groaning.

A monster from hell was spawned, a demon seething,

Earth felt the heaven’s warn, evil darkness speeding.

——

Why such a night did I choose,

To walk my scrawny pooch?

In a fight she would run straight home,

No blind love, she left me alone.

As twilight bubbled as witch’s brew steaming,

An evil curse my bones hurt knowing it was too near.

——

Our little neighbourhood was vast,

In pitch black terror I was cast.

My prayers mumbled beneath my —

Breath; I begged this night not to die.

Starlight and slim moon were covered by creeping thick fog,

Oh, how wished, for even my cowardly scared dog.

—–

Felt I the breath of evil reek,

A touch of frost open my young cheek.

Of something old, of catastrophe,

An ancient wicked masterpiece.

A monster so dark, it did me choke, both claws squeezing,

All life from lungs, bones crushing while I was bleeding.

—–

And now I’m nothing but my soul,

I choose — serve eternity bold.

Be not afraid as I was of dark,

For now I’m light, a fighting spark,

Giving courage, weapons to those facing monsters,

Sending back the most damned beasts, to hell launching.

Sunday Photo Fiction: Awakening the Dragon #flashfiction #amwriting #dragon

——

Sophia hid in her closet, it was her only safe place. Hanging on a ceiling was a mobile with a handcrafted dragon. She remembered thinking the dragon was frightening, but whenever the darkness in her room swallowed her, the dragon’s eyes flashed; the shadows were obliterated.

She also remembered when her mom first hit her. She scrubbed Sophia’s cut and it was excruciating as was the burning stringent liquid her mom poured on it.

Suddenly, Sophia heard yelling and stomping. The closest door flew open — her mother was drunk again.
Instantly, the dragon’s eyes above her caught fire. He grew into a monster with golden scales and the scent of fire and ash, spreading and filling Sophia’s entire bedroom. He blew a blaze of fire at her mom but only the bottle of Kirkland Tequila (1.75 Litres/$20.00) in her mom’s hand disintegrated.

In words veiled in smoke the dragon hissed at Sophia’s mom who nodded; she understood the dragon’s warning. He breathed out his last plume of smoke and except for the acrid smell, it was if Sophie’s dragon had never awoken.

She crawled out of her hiding place and petted the handcrafted dragon hearing him purr.

Scared,

Falling is,

Never easily —

Done; it’s aggravating ’cause,

I’m helplessly facing,

My soul’s connection for —

A thousand,

Years.

—–

I,

See before —

Me; you’re standing close,

Darling, don’t be afraid ’cause,

I’m not letting go, loved you —

For a thousand years,

Always for,

More.

—–

With,

Each breath I —

Take, every hour meant,

Was closer to you; our time —

Drawing near; ending my fears;

A thousand,

Tears.

—-

Please,

Don’t be scared,

Everyday I knew you were coming.

Time neared, stepping closer to —

Loving you starting,

Thousands of,

Years.

—–

Time’s

Frivolious.

Because forever,

We’ll love for a thousand years;

Love you milenias more,

Our love is timeless,

Together, time —

Stops.

—–

Knew,

Believed the —

Day would arrive I’d —

Find you eventually, we’ve —

Thousands of years being us;

Life to share, to keep —

Our future,

Warm.

——-

Mommy you let go my hand, I’m quick–

Mere seconds pass, I’m laughing freely,

I run.

—–

Mommy, I’m giggling what it is —

Feeling free, everyone looks at me,

Smiling.

—–

Down the aisles of Superstore,

You’ve lost me, can you find me now?

I’m fast.

——-

Boxes, packages to pull down,

Grinning, happy, into candy,

Sitting —

——-

Waiting for me on the shelf are —

My favourite chocolate and gummies;

Mommy?

——

Where’d you go? I think I’m lost,

I’m scrunching my face, tears begin,

Where’d you —

——-

Go? Mommy; don’t leave me here now,

Some lady grabbed my hand and —

It hurts.

——

She won’t let go, dragging me off,

Stranger danger; no one helps me,

Let Go!

*****

It’s okay now, Mommy is here

Holding you close, grabbing your hand;

She runs.

——

Scared I’ll turn her in and I should,

Who tries to kidnap a child in —

Daylight? —

——–

At all? Cannot trust, stay near me,

Now you know why and you’re safe,

From harm.

—–

Mommy will never let you go,

Her precious boy, her sweet sunshine,

Is hers.

Photo Challenge: Fiction – Spectre of Death #amwriting #fiction #death

Thanks to MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting this week’s photo prompt:

——

——-

Time’s clock is forever ticking above death’s throne. The clock’s glass face absorbes the colours of the landscape where death resides. The greyish-green of the stone mass, a floating island, and the pinky-red fire of the sky above and below, reflects on the clock’s face.

The figure of death sits soberly in his throne. The stone carved form a perfect fit for his lanky tall body. Beneath death’s left and right hands, the leering skulls of his first two victims sit. They are from our first two ancestors, people who lived exceptionally long compared to the humans living in modern times. Adam and Eve had tried to evade death, even though they knew he was coming for them. They had been ignorant and had no idea what death actually meant until they breathed their last.

Their souls he’d had to let fly in heaven, gold birds with giant wings exploring their freedom and return to painlessness. He had kept their skulls, though one day he knew he would have to return them. For now, Adam and Eve’s skulls peered eerily out onto whichever soul was before death seated on his throne. Together with the dying person, death watched their last seconds of life tick away. He towered over them in his realm and let their soul sour to heaven or to hell, there was no inbetween except him.

Some souls who stood before him were not afraid. This always amazed death. He was an imposing figure, giant and fearsome, his red hair as consuming flames, and his eyes burning coals. Some humans gazed up at him with what frightened death as wisdom, something they had gained, which few knew, not even him. Their souls flew away and he knew he would never see them again. Other people crumbled before him and he took time to torment them whether they went below or above. He was death after all, a fearsome being.

Yet, he had no control where a soul went. Death had no power to choose or to do as he wanted. He had a job, a task. He was death, he killed; but he was not merely an end. He was also the beginning. What he valued most of all, freeing those souls trapped in decaying bodies or in bodies injured profusely. Death was a contradiction of terms, both good and evil. Souls of faith went above and souls of disbelief went down to hades. Even death was afraid of what lay far beneath him in the abyss.

Lauren worked at the Starbucks until 12:00 am at night. She thought after a time, she would feel safer and more comfortable walking home in the dark. Her apartment was only four-blocks away.

This evening she felt particularly on edge and the noise of metal dropping somewhere nearby, echoed in the night.

Lauren began to shake, she had one block to go when she started to run. Then there was only the front door to get into her apartment. She hurriedly opened the door and screamed when she felt someone touch her arm.

“Calm down Lauren, it’s only me. Your neighbour Alice. I’m headed over to my sisters. Brandy and her kids are all ill with the flu and I’m going to help her with the little ones.”

“Oh Alice,” Lauren said trembling. She squeezed Alice’s arm, happy she was there. “I’m sorry about Brandy and her kids, I didn’t mean to freak out on you. It scares me walking home in the dark alone.”

Alice clicked her tongue, “A girl of your age shouldn’t be alone at night.” When she bared her wolf-like teeth, Lauren knew it was too late.

The fantastic hides and we’re unaware,

Turning to look, we might find we’re too scared.

Adventures, colour, world with beasts daring,

They’ll ask a question —answer with great care.

Creatures with magic, books jammed with thoughts, stairs —

Causing absurd scenes, stairs move everywhere.

The fantastic hides and we’re unaware.

Turning to look, we might find we’re too scared.

Magicians do tricks; hands, winding music blares,

Beauty in circus apparel she stares.

Without a body; her arms and hands fair,

Melodic music raises our arm hairs.

The fantastic hides and we’re unaware.

#OctPoWriMo – Day 20 – Tetracyts – “Forgive” #amwriting #poetry

Day 20 Prompt: White“White has so many connotations, white flag, white hat – hero in the old west movies, white – purity, white – clean, white light, white clouds, and the list could go on. White,

As Blank,

As the stare,

On your pale face,

Wished to tell you the truth but it wasn’t —

Enough; you appeared sickly, tears rolled down.

—–

Anger, pain unrolled,

Exposed your soft,

Lovely,

Skin.

I’m,

Not the,

Best person,

But I love you,

Does that count for anything or are my —

Sins to severe?  Your eyes blink and I hope.

Catatonia,

Black eyes so,

Empty,

Scared.

Ice,

Marble,

Narnian.

Carved face stoic.

Was trying to heal us, bring the truth to light.

Your eyes begin sparkling, what was cold, now’s —
—-

Beauty alive,

Life spinning,

Grace gifts,

Warmth.

Joy,

Hair flies,

Hands emote and —

Your glad laugh rings.

Distracting beauty forgives; peace of mind.

———

http://www.williams-sonoma.com

——-

You say it’s delicious, you haven’t tasted,

Anything as savoury as this food.

Your words need changing, not to be wasted,

On food of women, snuck in your bedroom.

——-

I’ll help you understand, I’m not one to be —

Crossed; when you don’t come home I wonder where,

Who you’ve been with? I cook dinner fancy,

Your favorite foods, savoury taste, you swear.

——-

But this night has been waiting; I’m scared,

Tired, always being second, to some whore.

Eat food and choke; poisoned you’re most aware,

Should’ve been home; other men me adored.

——-

Were you ashamed of your own wife you wed?

You cared not for me; fortunes mine –you’re dead.

Moral Monday’s Flash Fiction: Reading On Sunday

Thanks to Nortina for hosting Moral Monday’s prompts. This week’s moral is any moral our Dad taught us.

Little Girl Reads Bible Verse
http://www.teachinghelp.org

The eight-year-old girl was crying. When a bulletin had come around church asking for people to read Bible verses once a month, the girl thought she could do it.

It was time for her to read the first lesson. She forgot how full the pews were on a Sunday.”I don’t want to do this Daddy,” said the little girl tearfully.

Her Dad comforted her and said: “I’m sorry but you said you would.”

The girl bowed, and stepped up on the alter. She started reading the first lesson into a mic. She was crying, but as she neared half-way, her tears calmed. When she was done reading, she felt peace pass over her.
