Day 5 – NaPoWriMo/A to Z Challenge: Poem – A L’Arora – “Steps To Eternity” #amwriting #poetry #NaPoWriMo #AtoZchallenge

For Day 5, the NaPoWriMo poetry prompt is ” to write a poem that is based in the natural world: it could be about a particular plant, animal, or a particular landscape. But it should be a slice of the natural world that you have personally experienced and optimally, one that you have experienced often.” The accompanying A to Z Challenge today starts with a GoodRead’s author’s quote, with a name beginning with the letter E.

“I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck.” ― Emma Goldman

*****

Down the path of foliage, between all the trees,

It’s where I find my space, my home sweet home.

There’s something about crisp green leaves,

Wet after the rain, while the dew clings, not letting go.

With road passing through, steps to eternity,

Enthrall me in summer’s breath, the scent of the morning,

Let me stay in mother nature, her security.

*****

Tree branches entwining, limbs gripped with passion,

Used to the presence of parallel lovers.

They’re completely attached, unwilling to let go,

Nymphs holding fast, enraptured with each other,

With the road passing through, steps to eternity,

Absorbing the thrill of the mid-summer fairy dance.

Let me stay in mother nature, her security.

*****

Some brilliant reckless person crafted this road,

Travelers speeding through trees, guarding the sacred path.

Some pause knowing they’ve discovered sanctuary,

Freedoms breeze, they’ll stop to admire the sentinels guarding.

With the road passing through, steps to eternity,

A place where verdant nature, holds a secret prosperity.

Let me stay in mother nature, her security.

*****

For hours I’ve wandered through lush trees,

Delicate roses growing, shadowed by dripping leaves.

Overcome am I, by epic beauty, of roses sweetly pink,

Crushing them in my hands, to absorb the memories.

With the road passing through, steps to eternity.

Inhaling the fragrance of aspiring life, in roses soft,

Let me stay in mother nature, her security.

Sunday Photo Fiction: “The Sacrifice.”

“So, um Simon, what are we doing here?” I asked my friend.

“Well, we’re going to a Baptist Church,” Simon says.

“I’m Lutheran, and we aren’t into speaking tongues and overly emotional praise music.” I tell Simon.

“Well maybe, Baptists feel that emotional singing demonstrates their belief in God. Besides you only go to Church a couple of times a month, Miranda.”

“Doesn’t change my beliefs,” I tell Simon. “I learned and chose to believe in Jesus. I don’t agree with everything the Lutheran’s believe, but on the important matters I do.” I sigh, “let’s hope the Pastor doesn’t talk for two-hours.”

In the sanctuary I’m struck dumb. The people in the pews are dressed in black robes. There is a man on the alter with a fancier black robe and signs on his religious scarf. The signs look demonic, to my horror. I turn to leave and Simon grabs me.

” You told me they were Baptist — not Satanists!” I cry.

Simon smiles mischievously, “Satan requires a sacrifice from us and she needs to be one of Jesus’s flock. She’s you Miranda.”

“I believe in Jesus and I will go to heaven because of my Faith when I die. Get your hands off me Simon, I’m not dying today.”

Simon’s face is pure evil. “You’ll be with your Saviour soon, and you’re not going anywhere. The sacrifice ritual has begun.”

Sunday Photo Fiction: A Rhino’s ‘Horn.’

“I’v never seen a Rhino before Dallas, they’re cute.” Tanya told her fiancé.”Out of all these exotic animals we’ve seen on the Safari, I think I like the Rhinos by our hotel the best.”

“Why do you love the Rhinos the best Tanya –they’re ugly. All they’re good for is their horns!” Dallas remarked off handedly, grinning at Tanya. “Too bad I can’t hunt one of them while we’re here.”

Tanya’s eyes darkened with anger and her body went stiff.”Excuse me?” Tanya said to Dallas, “we’ve seen all these beautiful creatures and learnt about hunters who are poaching them even on wildlife sanctuaries made to protect exotic animals, and you think a rhino’s worth is only in his horn? What if I told you, you were only good because of your horn?” Tanya ranted poking Dallas in the chest and looking down.

“Well,” Dallas said confidently, “You’d be right to assume it’s one of my greatest attributes. That’s if we’re thinking about the same ‘horn.'” Dallas said winking at Tanya.

“Dallas this isn’t about your ‘horn,’ this is about preserving exotic wildlife. If we hunt these animals they will become extinct, one species of rhinos almost is extinct. As for your ‘horn,’ it’s not as good as you think. If you were a rhino, you’d live a long life.”

Dallas’s face went bright red and he looked away from Tanya who couldn’t stop laughing.

Broken

I think to be happy, we must in our hearts be free.
But yet captives are happy with chains and darkness.
I hear them sing in tunes of bliss, yet us who fought for freedom are we really at liberty?
I think to be pleasant, we must also be thankful,
For how can you be happy, if you do not appreciate what you have.
But yet people in Africa starve and have little but shelter, not even their health.
So, I’ve learned that you can have nothing and be pleasant and laugh.
You can have everything in the world and yet have nothing for all you own, so share the little you have.
For some a little is a lot.
I think to be joyful you must be useful and have purpose.
But John Milton told me ” [he] also serves [God] who only stands and waits.”
We must be careful who are master is or we shall be enslaved, by the trappings of a wordly life, someday we must proceed.
We might think we need so much, when we need so little, we need no purpose, when our purpose, is heaven.
We need only wait to be fulfilled and have meaning.
And I thought to be happy, I needed someone, but I’ll tell you the truth there are 2 sides to that card.
Sometimes it’s nice to talk to someone, to discuss and have great conversations and hear through another’s eyes.
But sometimes happiness is a quiet day, in a peaceful place.
It’s a time to restore energy and think on the world a bit.
It’s a sanctuary where one can pray and take the time to hear nothing.
Yes, there are many different ways I thought I could be happy.
Many ways I could confess, I thought were the right ways to go.
But all in all, it’s no secret that happiness is not the goal.
Rather, be content and look above, that’s where life begins.
We cannot have happiness without falling into despair.
We cannot find joy if sometimes there is no tears.
We cannot find freedom, if sometimes we are not enslaved.
And we cannot have sanctuary or great conversations, if sometimes we don’t have one or the other.
You see, there are varied ways to look on happiness, but a better way is to think
and love the world for what it is – broken.
