Flash Fiction For Aspiring Writers – The Zipper

Every year Ashley goes to the fair with her friends. Their favourite activity is all the rides to go on. Some, rickety old pieces, that you pray passed inspection.

“Come on Ashley,” Carmen her best friend cried. ” Your not afraid to go on the zipper are you. It’s so easy you are just locked in a padded cage and spin around as the cage goes up, down, and round.”

Ashley looked at the zipper her palms sweating.”I guess I can handle that” Ashley says and steps into the waiting cage with Carmen. ” I don’t know Carmen this ride is so creaky” Ashley complained, “and some of the paddings missing and the seat belts are broken.” Carmen rolled her eyes.

Ashley couldn’t ignore the bad feeling she had as the ride creaked. Nuts and bolts came loose in the cage. Ashley was tired of being knocked around. She had bruises everywhere.

All of the sudden the cage tilted to the side as the ride stopped to load cages at the bottom. People began to scream as the cage hung suspended and dropped from the top of the ride.

A lady selling balloons near by noticed and shook her head. At every place they went the zipper took lives.
