#NovemberNotes Day 1/ Sunday Writing Prompt: Poem – English Sonnet – “Take Me Back” #poetry #amwriting

Good Morning. For this month I will be finishing off OctPoWrMo and taking part in November Notes held by Sarah Doughty of Heart String Eulogies. For November 1st, the song is “The Night We Met” by Lord Huron. Also, I’m combining this prompt with Scribbler’s Dip Sunday Writing Prompt using the titles of 10 books (choosing 3) to describe.

“The Night We Met” – Lord Huron

Book Titles:

Milk and Honey

The Sun and Her Flowers

We’ll All Be Burnt in Our Beds Some Nights

My Husband’s Wife

—-

Life in the land of Milk And Honey is sweet,

Sweeter yet we’re the night’s we were complete.

Lacing are hands and arms, dreams replete,

So take me back to the night that we met.

Sometimes I had most of you maybe not all,

Sometimes bits and pieces holding their thrall.

I wanted more of you — not your regret,

So take me back to the night that we met.

We’re [Both] Burnt in Our Beds Some Nights grieving,

Being your Husband’s Wife, you’ll never leave.
But The Sun and Her Flowers call, daylight sets,
So take me back to the night that we met.

Once I had all of you, most nights confessed,

So take me back to the night that we met.

#OctPoWriMo – Day 9/Saturday Mix: Poem – Elfjies – “Smoke Baby” #amwriting #poetry #Saturdaymix

For OctPoWriMo Day 9 the Prompt is based on the words “tapping the ash of her cigarette,” and what memory or story pops into our minds. Also doing the Saturday Mix Prompt from Sarah (Weejars) of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie using a poem form called an Elfje

—–

Credit: Ariel Lustre via Unsplash

“An ‘Elfje’ counts as five sentences.
Line 1 – One word. This word symbolizes a colour or feature. The word symbolizes the atmosphere.

Line 2 – Two words. These are something or someone with this colour or feature.

Line 3 – Three words. Giving more information about the person or the object. You describe where the person or the object is, who the person or what the object is, or what the person or object is doing. This sentence usually starts with the word ‘he’, ‘she’ or ‘it.’

Line 4 – Four words. Here you are writing something about yourself in relation to the person or the object. This sentence is your conclusion.

Line 5 – One word. This word is called the ‘Bomb.’ It is the essence of the poem.”

——-

Hawksley Workmen – “Smoke Baby”

———

Regret,

Fingers clench,

Her mouth casually,

Pulls her cigarette,  smoke trails —

Lingers.

——-

Ash,

Builds atop,

Deftly tapping cigarette,

Ochre eyes simper, crushing —

Cinders.

——–

Lips,

Pouty, defined,

Pursing them prettily,

Tossing peroxide mane, whispering —

Promises.

—-

Words,

They’ll not,

Be promises kept,

Her words as cinders,

Burn.

——

Night,

Ends quickly,

She disappears, gone —

You’re broken, smoke-heavy —

Regrets.

—–

Away,

Far gone,

Hips swaying, curves,

Bouncing, as she chuckles,

Devoid

—-

Thoughts,

Of her,

Sweeping through mind,

Shadow of sleepless night,

Altering.

—-

Perception,

Of beauty;

She’s no defeat,

Just reeks of cigarette —

Ashes.

—-

Forever,

Remembering her —

Two-pack habit,

Makes you and me,

Gag.

Day 13 – NaPoWriMo/ A to Z Challenge/Sunday Photo Fiction: Poem – Ghazals – “The Dragon Boat Returns to Shore” #NaPoWriMo #AtoZchallenge #poetry #flashfiction

Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt is to write a ghazal. The GoodReads Quote begins with the letter for the A to Z Challenge. Thanks to Alistair Forbes for hosting SPF as well.

“A Ghazal is a poem that is made up like an odd numbered chain of couplets, where each couplet is an independent poem. It should be natural to put a comma at the end of the first line. The Ghazal has a refrain of one to three words that repeat, and an inline rhyme that preceedes the refrain. Lines 1 and 2, then every second line, has this refrain and inline rhyme, and the last couplet should refer to the authors pen-name… The rhyming scheme is AA bA cA dA eA etc.”

“And though I came to forget or regret all I have ever done, yet I would remember that once I saw the dragons aloft on the wind at sunset above the western isles; and I would be content.” Ursula K. Le Guin, The Farthest Shore

The dragon boats arrive, the sea pulling them into shore,

Watching remotely from a distance, will he be on shore?

For many months they wandered, the boat their prized shelter,

Now they are home, the boat still floats, they’re at the shore.

I’m afraid to see them, brothers, their friends, so dear to me changed,

I wave, my kin they come forward their eyes remote, onto shore.

They’re gaunt, they’re battle worn, they need food, steaming hot baths to soothe,

Once they settle, they talk, thick coats warm them on the shore.

My brothers, my childhood friends, have lost part of themselves,

On the ocean suffered, in baren lands they smote on the cold shore.

They’ve treasures, furs, they’ve jewels, silver, gold — they lost their life spark,

Gazing at my love, his face coated in grime, eyes dead on shore.

The days pass by, the village returns to normal almost,

Except the men who left; returned forever remote to shore.

I talk to him, I talk to my brothers, hearing how each piece,

Of their self died, no matter we doated on them on shore.

Time passes, I think I’m seeing things when his eyes alter,

Warmth returns, he takes my hand, away from the boat on shore.

Day 10 – NaPoWriMo/A to Z Challenge/ Photo Challenge: Poem – Free Verse -“The Swan” #amwriting #poetry #AtoZchallenge #NaPoWriMo

Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt is to “write a poem that is a portrait of someone important to you. It doesn’t need to focus so much on what a person looks (or looked) like, as what they are or were.” The corresponding GoodRead’s Author’s Quote for the A to Z Challenge, begins with the letter I. Thanks to NEEKNERAJ of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie who provided the wonderfully creepy photograph.

If I’d been born a ghoul, I think I would’ve killed people. I just happened to be born a human. That’s the only reason why I’m allowed to live a moral life.” ― Sui Ishida

———

I knew her as a little girl,

Though others thought her odd.

She had that “something” about her,

People either loved or abhorred.

At first, I thought, she was enormously strange,

But her quirks endeared me to her.

She protected me from those cruel girls,

One smile from her, they stumbled away on their heels.

She had shocking violet hair on one side,

She was never quite a blond.

Always experimenting with new looks,

Trying to glean from her appearance,

Who she was inside herself.

Her eyes a brilliant cornflower blue glimmered,

When some person made her enraged.

Her friends all knew some stupid student,

Would soon regret their actions;

She only had to smile.

And some bullies face turned violet, rouge, or primrose.

My friend was odd but lively,

Never afraid to do anything.

Dragging me along, to be a part of her drama.

Of her wicked practical jokes,

Others whispered she was a bit ‘Tim Burton,’

Calling her the ‘corpse bride.’

But she would always smile,

In a way that scared many,

Who never knew the truth about her —

She was passionate, kind, and loyal.

If you could get past her walls, her insecurities,

She was most lovely and grew to be a beauty.

Her hair still half-purple — it was her thing.

How we knew her for her.

Her terrifying smile gleamed,

She could now afford braces,

For teeth that had scared everyone.

And when the braces disappeared,

Her teeth stood in straight white rows.

Her grim frown had turned forever upside down,

She was no longer that weird girl.

Though there was still ‘something’ about her;

Strange became a talent, something sought after,

When she transformed into a swan.

She became a cut diamond, no longer rough, she was —

Perfectly odd.

Friday Music Prompt:  Poem – A L’Arora – ” Obesssion Deludes” #amwriting #poetry #music

——–
(Her View)

Tonight’s the night he’s meeting me here later

Passions ignited, we’ve fires, need sating

All the desires of our time together, at last met

I’ll be shaking, moaning, chasing the stars

Caught in the moment, we’ll shatter as glass

Wrapped in your strong arms, I’ll have a blast.

Waiting for tonight, excitement beaming

When you and I are lovers holding,  fast.

——

Preening, applying makeup and shaking

Preparing for you, our first time creating.

Ensuring our night’s perfect; it’ll end complete.

Skin grazingcaressing, nothing sub-par

Lovers busy enjoying repast

Perfect lingerie, beneath a gown fast

Becoming a favourite; it’s perfect and tight

Rip it off, no need to be so classy

——

Waiting for tonight, our love embracing,

Perfection between us, this night for our sake.

I’ve planned it exactly, we’ll not overstep

Each moments vital, at the finale beseech.

Give into our lust, marvel in love far —

Better than any you’ve ever had; here we’ll last,

Until mornings stunning rays of light

I wait for him, he’s mine; trembling, my hands clasp.

——

(His View)

Tonight it came, the nightmare couldn’t wait

She’s obssessed, unstable, any day she’ll break.

Better to stop, was never invested, not set

On staying with her; she’s a whale beached.

Though thin like a beanpole, not nice at all

Loathsome personality, running fast —

Driving passed; her obsession frightening

I was ‘nice’ once or twice, now there’s an impasse.

——

Need freedom, her annoying voice I hate,

Can life be normal again? Not Hell made?

Can I touch the one I love, and not regret

Bringing him into drama; twice I cheated,

Boyfriend enraged; a dumb girl caused my fall.

Told her, “I like men most;” but left aghast —

She doesn’t care, spoiled girl; not smart, no insight,

Traps into engagement; I’ll always pass

Poem – Quaterns – “You Are Not The Girl” #poetry #amwriting

Credit: Marcus Baccatti – http://www.pinterest.com

*****

You are not the girl I always knew,

The person I was most like, you flew –

No longer my number two,

You’re the girl I defended too.

—–

At every step abandoned I grew,

You are not the girl I always knew.

You say one thing, you’re actions show,

You’re not a dependable though.

——

I disattach so you won’t hurt,

Make the marks of neglect so curt.

You are not the girl I always knew,

I relied too much on you it’s true.

——

You’re not such a good person, though —

I put you on a pedestal, so –

I took care of you, and trusted you,

You are not the girl I always knew.

******

You are not the girl I always knew,

Life it changed, with it we both grew –

Forced apart at first by you, then thrown,

Hurt so much, but I’ve always known –

—–

I can’t completely trust you through –

You are not the girl I always knew.

So involved in yourself, stopped thinking,

Stopped caring, it made my soul shrink

——

To think of where life takes us, knowing —

One day you’ll leave, forever going.

You’re not the girl I always knew,

You just look like her, there are few –

—–

Who could ever replace this girl,

But she is stuck in her own world.

Changes, hoping friendship renews,

You are not the girl I always knew.

November Notes: Poem – Day 14 – English Sonnet – “In Jealousy” #amwriting #writing #poetry #music

Today’s song prompt is “Tenerife Sea” by Ed Sheeran.

——-

He looked at her, in her awful dress; he —

Told her, the way her hair fell was pretty.

He never noticed me, my jealousy.

All he saw was her; their love made him witty.

—–

He was joyful around her, said forget —

Lies people tell, talking behind their back.

Envious I spread more discord, I was set —

To move in; that Beth, she was such a brat.

—-

He liked me first, but then he saw sweet Beth,

Told her: “If she’s the last thing he should see–

He wouldn’t be sad, forget or regret;

[I bawled] she was all he would ever need.”

—–

Her eyes were the the blue of the Tenerife Sea,

Envy upset me; he loved Beth —not me.

Writing 101: Poem – Wrapped Poetry- “Life Rope”#everydayinspiration

Today’s Writing 101 prompt is a piece of writing using the words or one word from this list:

  • HOPE
  • REGRET
  • HOME
  • CHOICE
  • SECRET
  • ABUNDANCE

hand Rope
http://www.thebounceblog.com

I have hopes for a life with choice,

To make decisions with my voice.

Freedom can be costly but I’m —

No afraid to chose my path line.

Regret is something tragic and I never want,

To say later, I regret: what was was; so flaunt.

Engage in life and say regret

Nothing; always chose my very best.

Tried to help people in life find home.

Rest from the nomadic ways roamed.

Find home in people, in those you’re blessed to reach-out,

Find abundance in your home, with people you don’t flout.

In home there is hope and joy which,

Makes a solitary being wish,

For personal time, secrecy,

Not bad secrets, but privacy.

This is my why it’s good to have choice because we need both.

Home and choice, to be alone when needed, not to loath–

Our families but to live; be content.

Not to say I had no choice; was sent —

To have abundance of blessings,

Thankful for everything, joy rings.

No dark secrets among us, only time alone needed.

Recognizing each person needs a few freedoms.

Keep hoping you’ll see, I’m honest.

Gaze into my eyes, hear our song.

Our secrets are safe between us,

You and I, abundant life trust.

We’re provided for in our home, no fear, merely hope.

I have hopes our happiness lasts; you’re my life rope.

Sunday Photo Fiction: Horse Kisses

It was taking my mixed junior high class two-hours to arrive at the Ranch for the Deaf. There was several different activities to do there that could be done by those deaf or not. The Pastor who greeted us signed his words as he spoke to us and shared a devotion.

We ate hot dogs and roasted them on metal sticks over a fire pit. My teacher took our junior high class on a walk through the wilderness. I wasn’t to happy about this. If you know me, you know I am mostly an indoors girl due to allergies to fungi, grass, trees, other molds, and pollen. I swallowed my Bendryl with regret as I knew how tired it would make me later on.

We made walking sticks out of smaller trees, peeling the bark off them and rowed a boat in a body of water on the ranch. We learned how to shoot riffles. I remember the bruises I had on my shoulder from the kick-back of the guns.

Lastly, there were the horses who followed us behind wire and wood fences as we walked. I stopped for a moment and laid my hand on the nose of pretty brown chestnut horse. She sniffed me then laid her head on my shoulder as I stroked her snout and scratched behind her ears.

She was beautiful and breathtaking. She followed me as we continued to walk. When I came close to her she hid her nose in my hair and gave a few wet kisses to my neck. I didn’t and still don’t know a lot about horses. But as I found with certain dogs, I realized horses know something about people. They are drawn to certain people for whatever reason they are. They see in people for their souls and they adore you without requiring anything but a nice scratch and perhaps a carrot. Their’s  is a love that gives without regret.
