Aurora-borealis paints the sky

Hues of light to charm

Charm the cold from old man winter’s grasp

Charm the sky hovering, colours delightful still

Still as the snow when it stops

Still as the young man in the living room

Room in a home where he’s troubled

Room of the television — loud sports

Sports of the freezing weather

Sports loved best

Best loved is hockey

Best loved he watches, engrained

Engrained in the screen

Engrained in the game

Game on and he misses his wife as she drives away

Game of his wife searching for time

Time ended when she him left

Time is new for her; he doesn’t care now

Now she moves on

Now she is but thrilled

Thrilled, yet in a storm she drives

Thrilled to have escaped without another fight

Fights always happen

Fights which got worse, never stopped

Stopped when she rethought her life

Stopped when she said, “I’m gone”

Gone while the new sliver of a TV loudly plays

Gone, he knows it it, feels depressed

Depressed at the mess of his life

Depressed, slight lines etched into his face

Face with red eyes

Face with mouth stifling sobs

Sobs because she’s gone for good

Sobs because she gazed at him appalled

Appalled because he always yelled

Appalled because he’s why ‘they’re finished

Finished forever, she’s free

Finished, but she’s not safe in such a blizzarding storm

Storm outside flinging snow in his face

Storm outside, her car didn’t make it far

Far off and tired the look in her eyes

Far off but tears streaming ’cause she’s stuck

Stuck in the bank of snow

Stuck in her life, no escape

Escape life here, without him?

Escape yet, she’s glad, for her, he came

Came, so she takes him back; he understands now

Came, so they return to times where they showed

Showed love, affection where no distance divides

Now acts of love, little things, change the future

#OctPoWriMo – Day 25 –  Alouette – “Insatiable Red”

Day 25 Prompt: Red
“When I was growing up I extremely disliked the color red, not sure if the fact I had red hair had anything to do with it or not. It wasn’t until a few years back that I started to enjoy red and now I love it. I completely embrace red! How about you? Love it? Hate it? Don’t feel anything about it? I have always enjoyed big red barns though, I think it is because my great grandparents lived/owned/worked on their ranch with a big red barn and farmhouse. I loved having family gatherings out there.”

“Red” – Taylor Swift

Too bright hurts my eyes, 👀

Step-back, blinded by —

Red; the colour kindly few like.

Forceful, seductive, 💋

Not for reluctant.

It’s sunsets with the fall of leaves bright. 🌅

Maple trees red sigh,  🍁

And red eyes crying.  😭

Mighty power, red does lend.💰

Most sold lipstick —red; 👄

Classic colour said;

Cadillacs, Mercedes Benz.  🚗

Royal, wealth of land,  👑

Expensive dye’s hand —

Made scarlet; a king’s fine robes. 🔱

Privilege, money. 💰

Repulsive, funny,

Never liked, but on my toes. 👣

Women opt for red

Cooler; warmer red

Men’s own own chosen taste;  💪

Brilliant red, sexy; 💋

Elegant, regal, next. 👑

Amount changes, moods, tastes.

Trashy women in —

Sultry plastic.

Grace of love felt; most fav shoes. 👠 👗

Naughty and nice, 👍

Santa and Christmas; 🎄

Lights saying stop, you’ll lose.

Curious colour,

Loved or hated fleur.

Rose, hibiscus, poinsettias. 🌹

Different meanings,

Red fleurs, never seen; 🌹

Dancers doing flamenco. 💃🏼

For myself I think,

Preference for pink. 💗

A tint of red, more like me.

A bit of lipstick. 💄

If I must wear it.

Sport’s teams, and broken heart’s pleas. 💔

“What’s that noise?” Robbin said afraid. “Mom there’s something under my bed?”

Robbin’s Mom, Dorothy, flicked on the bedside lamp in eight-year-old Robbin’s room. She made a grand show of peering under the bed.

“Come see Robbin, there’s nothing under your bed. A monster couldn’t fit under there.”

Robbin got out of bed and peaked under his bed. “There’s only a few socks and toys here.”

“Yep. You can clean those up tomorrow,” Dorothy ordered.” Now it’s time for bed. No more reading. You have school.”

Robbin nodded and flicked off his lamp hesitantly. He snuggled under the covers which Dorothy had tucked him into. That’s when he heard the scrapping sound and loud inhuman breathing.

Robbin hid is whole body under his blankets, hoping the monster wouldn’t eat him.

The monster was in the closet this time and Robbin could see his red eyes through the crack in the closet door. The closet door began to creep open and Robbin screamed. The monster’s shadow was visible on the floor.

Dorothy came running. She was tired and wondered when Robbin would get over his fears of monsters. “What now my love?”

“The monster is in the closet now.” Robbin stuttered his face wan.

Dorothy opened the closet door, flinging it open to show Robbin nothing was there. “See no monsters,” Dorothy said.

“Mom,” Robbin screamed.

Behind Dorothy a monster was waiting to pounce. His red eyes glaring and giant teeth sharp and dripping with slime. His half-furred, half-reptilian body repulsed Robbin who began to cry and beg, “Don’t eat my Mom.”

Dorothy turned around to look in the closet. “There’s nothing here . . . Ah!” The monster swallowed Robbin’s Mom whole.

Robbin flicked on the lamp light quickly and the monster disappeared. “Mommy . . .” Robbin asked.

But it was too late. Dorothy should’ve known better. The best way to get rid of monsters is to first turn on the light.
