——

In their years of friendship, Alise and Janelle never fought except over Chaz Monroe. He dated Alise in high school causing a huge argument between the girls.

“I liked him first you know that Alise,” Janelle had said. “Why are you still seeing him?”

“We’ve been going out three-years Janelle. We’re planning a life together.” They’d been drinking vodka and Janelle threw hers on Alise.

Then Chaz left for university and broke up with Alise. He dated another girl and Alise and Janelle reconciled over their disgust of Chaz’s tart

Ten- years later, Chaz came back to town. He was still handsome and Alise and Janelle had both secretly been in contact with him.

Chaz visited Janelle first but when he came to Alise’s he told her, “I missed you so much, Alise. I’m sorry I ever broke up with you. Would you consider giving us a second chance?”

Alise agreed, she loved Chaz. But when Janelle found out about Alice and Chaz she invited her friend over under false pretences of congratulating her.

Janelle mixed neat vodka’s for them both and threw candied cherries in their drinks. Alise took a few sips, choking on the weird tasting cherry. She was shocked to see Janelle slumped over dead as she too succumbed; Janelle had poisoned them both.

They had always been bestfriends except when it came to Chaz Monroe.

——-

You say it’s delicious, you haven’t tasted,

Anything as savoury as this food.

Your words need changing, not to be wasted,

On food of women, snuck in your bedroom.

——-

I’ll help you understand, I’m not one to be —

Crossed; when you don’t come home I wonder where,

Who you’ve been with? I cook dinner fancy,

Your favorite foods, savoury taste, you swear.

——-

But this night has been waiting; I’m scared,

Tired, always being second, to some whore.

Eat food and choke; poisoned you’re most aware,

Should’ve been home; other men me adored.

——-

Were you ashamed of your own wife you wed?

You cared not for me; fortunes mine –you’re dead.

——–

There are two-sides to me,

One you will hardly see.

She only comes out one night,

When the orb of the full moon frightens and blinds.

She marks her time trapped, on my back,

Pacing inside me, my evil twin.

Each day I feel the pain she creates;

Carving out another tick, counting the days —

With her burning sharpie;

Writing on me with acid.

She takes the days five at a time;

Slowly each night I feel her poison,

But I shut her in, shut her down tight.

She is buried and not to be found,

When I call all light towards me.

—–

Yet I have no power,

When her strength is full,

When the monster prowls,

When it snaps its teeth for blood.

The werewolf inside,

Biding her time,

Until now, when the moon is full and round;

She spits and she howls,

Her teeth sharp tiny daggers.

She comes out from the floorboards,

The darkest dankest corner of my soul.

Her prison she erupts from, no longer trapped,

She unfolds her wrath on all who pass, brings terror;

Clawing at me, shredding me for fun,

Because she knows when the night is done,

I’ll have my strength of luminous sparks again.

The light of the day will flow through me,

Cascading through my body,

Repairing all wounds.

But for tonight she roams the earth,

A horrifying hell monster with claws that hurt;

She shreds my insides, reminds me how small I am,

That she is all powerful and will one day win our war.

——

But I am growing less afraid,

And I have time to be patient.

The night it ends, she’s back in her cage,
Marking me with acidic ink, every night,

Until when next the moon is full bright —

She’ll break free of my skin,

The torture will begin.

But yesterday night she didn’t come out?

There was no fight to lock her in;

I think she’s trapped inside me, for good?

And I’m claiming back my skin,

Healing all her burning marks

Becoming someone new.

My other half is dead I think,

I don’t feel her uncoiling,

Scrartching her way through my defence.

My plan conceived it ruined her.

And in slumber I locked her thrice,

Poisoned her in sleep.

So the only place she’ll terrorize —

Is her own dreams and I think she quite deserves,

The nightmares promised her,

For all eternity;

Sickly wicked sister, gone at last.

Flash Fiction for the Aspiring Writer: The Funkey Monkey in The Funky Munky #amwriting #flashfiction #magic

——

The Funky Munky was a magic shop owned by Velma. She lived in the first apartment, above her shop.

Curtis walked into Velma’s shop one night, he was hallucinating and ill. “Please help me,” he begged, “I think I’ve been poisoned and I’m going to die.”

Velma felt his forehead: “You’ve come to the right place. You’ve been poisoned and I can help you for a favour in return.”

“Anything.”

Velma began to add liquids to a glass. She handed the ‘potion’ to Curtis who downed it and passed-out; he awoke the next morning on a couch.

“Do you feel better?” Velma asked him.

“Yeah, I feel fantastic. What did you give me?” Curtis said.

“A Funky Monkey,” Vera said smiling.”It contained Banana Liquor, White Rum, Malibu Rum, Pineapple Juice, and magic dust.”

“It was a drink, not a potion?”

” You were poisoned Curtis. The drink was magical and removed the poison from your body, hydrated you, and made you sleep deeply.” Velma said.

“It’s my favourite alcoholic drink, Curtis. I became ill because I drank too many of them once. Your favour to me was taking away my repulsion for my favourite drink. However, a Funky Monkey will now make you ill if you even smell one.”

Curtis had no words but Velma had pity on him and snapping her fingers, sent him home to his own bed where he would remember nothing.

Poem: Alouette – “Murderer” #amwriting #poetry #poison

Thanks to Poets United for the poetry prompt: Predator and Prey.

——-

Loved being your girl,

But, done with this world.

Preyed on, murdered viciously.

Hunted, forcibly;

Caught, controllably.

Trapped in sucking quick-sand.

——-

Stuck in thought in —

My head; beg within,

Is this the end?  You and —

I, are no more to —

Be; merely, see -through,

Another couple out of hand.

——

My skin is white, pale.

I’m not cold, don’t wail.

Hours ago, you poisoned me,

I fell asleep no —

Pain; not yours, dead though.

Hate seethed through you, love which bleeds.

—–

When did it leave us?

Love, affection, trust?

Did you become predator

When he looked at me?

He’s vapour; Freely —

Loved you; your prey; died with gore.

——

But I’m above clouds,

Mistakes by cowards.

Shutting you out, I never

Ingrained hurtful pain,

Inside your body; lame —

Excuses, you’re a murderer.

Break on me.

Shatter Like Glass.

Come apart in my claws.

——

Your the best gal I know,

Surviving life is hard on us both,

No bugs to for us to eat,

The venom from the spider poisoned me,

I dig with my four claws,

Attempting to kill,

Then I wonder, what’s that peculiar smell?

—–

And I stood sentinel,

I missed our enemy coming,

Still looking around and peeping,

Half or gang is gone,

Now I’m the Meerkat outcast.

But your still my lady,

Cry your tears on my furry chest.

——

Break on Me.

Shatter Like Glass.

Come apart in my claws.

——

I’m glad I made you become my mate,

Sorry about those two pups of ours,

I’m sure there was something wrong with them,

Didn’t mean to let them be eaten,

Baby, you’re a fine Meerkat,

And if we live to nine or ten,

I’ll be a satisfied guy.

—–

I’ve been told survival of the fittest.

But I’m still alive,

You can depend on me,

I’m always there to forage for you,

But I’m banned from standing sentinal,

So, baby, maybe we can have more pups?

Lay your head against mine.

—-

Break on me.

Shatter Like Glass.

Come apart in my claws.

——

The chorus is mostly, lines from a Keith Urban song called, “Break on Me.” You can see the lyrics to his song here or watch his music video below:
