For OctPoWriMo Day 23 the Prompt is on the Greek Mythology tale of Iris the Godess or Rainbows and Arke her twin sister and what is the message of their tale. I’m combining this with the Tale Weavers prompt making sense of nonsense, using the nonsensical word cloppsright from Michael of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie.
Good Afternoon everyone. I’m back with some of my favourite beauty products I’ve tried since my Fall Beauty Haul. I hope you like the products and find some you can incorporate into your own beauty routine.
This wasn’t a product I went out and bought, but I received the full-sized product with a coupon code from Sephora. Its a product part of Benefit’s recently revamped brow line since brows have become a big deal these past two-years where makeup is concerned.
I haven’t used this product long, only a week, but I wanted to include it in the Beauty Haul. So far I enjoy the product and it makes my brows feel soft. You don’t have to wear other brow products on top of it. If you want, you can wear Browvo alone. Basically, Browvo’s a pen and you squeeze some of the conditioning product out. There is a soft rubber comb you can use to brush it on your eyebrows.
The biggest feature I think of this is product, is that it is conditioning so if you have sparse brows, this makes them appear “fuller, thicker, and healthier.” Browvo is a “nutrient rich” conditioning formula with “keratin” and “soy proteins.” These ingredients are known to help brows appear fuller.
For women who have either over-plucked their own brows or gone to places to have their brows waxed and had them waxed and shaped too thin for a long time, Browvo is fantastic product for you to try out. Also if you find the pencil or gel you are filling in your brows with doesn’t last, Browvo is a brow primer and will aid you in keeping your brow makeup in place.
My brows have always been on the fuller side so even though my brows feel nice when I put Browvo on, it’s not a product I would purchase because I don’t think its a product marketed to me but to women who have sparser brows. If I needed primer on my brows I would use my usual face primer which is POREfessional primer from Benefit.
On a different makeup order, I received a full-sized sample of Benefit’s of ka-Brow. I’ve been using it a few weeks and its a great product actually. Ka-Brow is a cream gel product you use to fill in your eyebrows, instead of a pencil or other brow products. I’ve never used a gel product on my eyebrows, so I was eager to try ka-Brow out.
The lid comes of this product and you pull off the brush as well, to dip it into the brow gel container which is on the bottom of the product as you can see. It can be difficult to tell at first, how much of the gel you need to use to fill in your eyebrows. I found a little ka-Brow goes a long way. The brush is tiny and it’s easy to fill in your brow more naturally, with tiny strokes. Or to make your brows look more defined by using thicker swipes of ka-Brow on your eye brows.
The product promises to “fill,” “sculpt,” and “define brows.” You can build it from a “natural” look to a more “dramatic” one quite easily with ka-Brow as I mentioned. Ka-brow is also Waterproof and lasts 24 Hours.
I had never considered using a gel product such as ka-Brow to fill in my brows.I am quite happy to use a brow pencil which is soft but not too soft. I find despite using ka-Brow, I require Benefit’s blond brow gel over top to set the product.
I’m undecided about using ka-Brow over a pencil such as an Anastasia Brow Pencil I’d been using before trying this product. Ka-Brow can accidentally be put on quite too thick and I don’t know how long it lasts compared to a brow pencil. A good brow pencil such as one from Anastasia, lasts me three-months. So I’ll see if this product lasts another couple of months.
There is nothing wrong with ka-Brow. It works well, and I chose the shade o1 Platinum for blonds and the colour is perfect; however, it’s up to you what products you prefer to use on your eyebrows and how much you can afford to spend on a brow product for how long it lasts. I haven’t decided if I like this product enough to buy it again.
I admit, I’m a mascara junky. Out of all the products I use, mascara is the one I change the most often. My last one from Make Up Forever, I ended up loving in the end, except that the brush which covered every tiny lash, made mascara go all over my eye area and the mascara didn’t appear to have such a volumizing effect as I was hoping for. So for over top, I bought this L’Oreal mascara from Shoppers Drug Mart and it worked extremely well to use over top the Make Up Forever Mascara and fill out my eyelashes.
I find myself consistently going back to L’Orealmascaras because they reliably, time and again, have well priced mascaras which do the same job as most mascaras in the $30.oo to $40.00 range.
For L’Oreal you are only paying around $10 CAN for their mascara. It’s a shame when you buy an expensive mascara and hate it. But if you don’t like a cheaper mascara it isn’t such a big deal if it doesn’t work out. The only difference I can say between say L’Orealmascaras and expensive mascaras such as Dior, is that mascaras such as Dior, have fantastic black or brown colour pigment.
However, I do tend to receive many beauty samples, especially in mascara. I will try out a new mascaras a sample from a more expensive brand, and put the L’Oreal over top to set a non-waterproof mascara (because it runs under my eyes) and to add a little extra volume if needed. I completely recommend this L’Oreal mascara and many other kinds of L’Orealmascara, as long as the mascara is waterproolipf.
Lately, I find myself becoming more interested in lip products. For most of my twenties, lip gloss or lipstick in a light pink was fine for going out or during the day. Now I find I enjoy wearing a bit of colour on my lips because you can wear a bold lip and wear hardly any other makeup than a bit of mascara, eyeliner, and concealer.
Usually, I like to wear makeup but every once and a while, if I’m just running quick errands and than going home, I don’t feel like putting all the effort into doing my full makeup routine. My pet peeve about lipsticks and glosses is in a way, the same way I feel about mascaras: I hate when I buy a more expensive lipstick or gloss and it comes off right away, the first time you have a glass of water. Also, I hate that many lip glosses can be sticky.
This is not the case with Make Up Forever’s Artist Plexi-Gloss. It’s super amazing stuff and you can buy it many colours in a high shine finish or in a shimmer finish. The colour I bought was a Fuchsia Pink and it’s amazing. I’m not huge on bright red lipstick as you know, but this is my trade off. I love wearing this bright shade some days, and it stays on incredibly well through drinking, eating, and whatever else you’re doing. I’m so pleased by how long the colour lasts.
Besides the brilliant colours this Artist Plexi-Gloss has an artist designed foam applicator (a”superflex” tip) which is amazing for applying the gloss and having “precision and control,” while doing it. As well, I enjoy that the Plexi-Gloss is shiny but not super shiny such as many sticky lip glosses or moisturizing lipsticks. Plexi-Gloss is more akin to lipstick with shine, the colour is so intense. I highly recommend this lip product; it is most certainly worth the $24.00 CAN.
I’ve hardly ever had a problem with dry skin in my entire life. My problem has always been oily skin. Being a couple of years into my thirties, I find my skin is changing a bit. It has become more dry. The chilly -25 degrees Celsius weather we are experiencing in Alberta, Canada isn’t helping my dry skin either.
Having had troubles with many skin products in the past, I’m always hesitant about different face masks and other brands of skincare. But I’ve been so pleased with a newer brand to Sephora called Laneige. I’ve tried a couple small one or two day samples of their products. But also with my Sephora points, bought a large sample of Laneige’s Multiberry Yogurt Repairing Mask.
It smells wonderful, a bit as yogurt of course, but also as strawberries. The sample I received which was (0.6 fl.oz), lasted two-months and I’ve been used this moisturizing mask every two-days as directed. This Yogurt Repairing Mask is put it on after using your toner. You leave the mask on for five to ten minutes and then gently rinse it off your face with lukewarm water. After you can apply any other creams or your moisturizers you use to your face.
I wake the next morning after using this Yogurt Repairing Mask and my skin feels soft and hydrated. It’s not dry as my skin has often been feeling lately. I did go and purchase this from Sephora, it was highly worth it.
Laneige’s Multiberry Yogurt Repairing Mask delivers “nutrition” and “antioxidants” deep into skin. It is formulated to “remove dead skin” from the surface of your face. Its unique “fermented yogurt” formula provides “anti-irritation” benefits to the skin. Not to mention, I’ve never once broken out after using this mask the next day or any days after. I’m excited to maybe try other products from Laneige’s skin care line. I most definitively recommend this mask and I think for how long the product lasts, the price is reasonable.
Please stay tuned for Part Two of my Winter 2016/2017 Beauty Haul!
This is the second part of my beauty haul from February to the present month of June. Part 1 was only on products used on the eyes and can be found here.
For this post, I will only be focusing on makeup and products used on your face, excluding your eyes. As per usual, I buy my makeup from a variety of stores including The Bay, Sephora, and Shoppers Drug Mart online, but I will be searching for the items and providing you links to Sephora whenever I can because they carry the majority of the products I buy.
1. NARS blush in Orgasm – (www.sephora.ca) – $38.00 CAN – This blush is one of my all
time favourite blush colours. Not only mine, but beauty product lovers and makeup artists alike. The color Orgasm is described as a “peachy pink with shimmer.” It is one of the only blush colours which can be worn by anyone, no matter their skin tone. Although, my skin is pale and I often tend towards colours which are pink or purple, this colour is perfect for me as well because of the pink tone in it; however, if you have skin which has more yellow undertones, the peachiness of Orgasm will also appear beautiful on you.
Another aspect I love about NARS blush is that it lasts forever. Yes, $38.00 CAN may seem expensive to spend on one blush, but this blush will last you years and works well with many other makeup colours. I had a smaller container of the Orgasm blush I used up before I repurchased the Orgasm blush, and the smaller container lasted about four-years and I wore it two or three times a week.
As well, with many NARS products, the pigment of Orgasm is fantastic. If you’ve lighter toned skin, I caution you to be careful when you apply NARS blushes, including Orgasm because it is extremely easy to apply too much blush at once; you want your blush to appear like a natural flush. I hope you like this colour and will have a look at Sephora online or in-store, at some of the other colours available in NARS blushes. There are many pretty blush shades all with excellent pigment concentration.
Since the Orgasm colour is so popular for NARS, it is one of ten colours you can buy in a cream to powder blush as well as in the powder form. I have also seen the colour in a luminosity highlighter you can add to your foundation to receive a more dewy appearance in summer time.
2. BENEFIT Girl Meets Pearl – Liquid Pearl for Face – (www.sephora.ca) – $39.00 CAN
I purchased Girl Meets Pearl, a year or two ago. I bought it because I thought it would
be a superb natural highlighter for your cheekbones or brow bones, but the consistency of the highlighter was too liquid and I didn’t achieve the look I was hoping to get.
However, this summer I was searching for a luminizing highlighter which is glowy and shimmery, to add to my matte MAKE UP FOREVER foundation; it gives more of a summery glow to your makeup. I didn’t want to switch foundations and end up breaking-out or having my skin appear too oily.
I apply Girl Meets Pearl after I apply my foundation. I put a bit of Girl Meets Pearl on the top of my hand and take my foundation brush and blend Girl Meets Pearl into my foundation on my face. The results, are fantastic.
Girl Meets Pearl is the perfect “pearly golden pink” for many skin tones and it lightens the heaviness of a more matte foundation, without making your skin oily. It provides a subtle sheen. I’m extremely happy with this product now and I wasn’t when I bought it originally. But, for mixing with your foundation Girl Meets Pearl is the best highlighter product.
As well, Girl Meets Pearl has chamomile and sweet almond seed extract in it so it improves the appearance of skin’s “firmness” and “smoothness.” I also want to mention, I have tried to use this product on several other occasions, so it has lasted well and I think is good value for your money for this type of highlighter.
3. SEPHORA Radiant Luminizing Drops in Starlight – (www.sephora.ca) – $19.00 CAN
This product was supposed to do what the BENEFIT’s Girl Meets Pearl does; however, I didn’t realize I had a product which already worked well as a luminizing highlighter to add to my foundation.
When I was at Sephora, I chose this product which is Sephora’s own makeup brand. I have not tried too much of Sephora’s makeup brand but the price was right and I liked the pink colour of the Luminizing Drops. You can also buy them in Ultra Light – Bronze, or Morning Light – Champagne.
I have tried the Luminizing Drops a few times, but compared to the BENEFIT Girl Meets Pearl, it doesn’t do justice to it’s proclaimed ‘luminizing’ effects. You’re only supposed to put a drop or two of the Luminizing Drops mixed with your foundation. This did nothing for me because you couldn’t tell my skin appeared any different than if I had only worn my foundation alone. Adding more drops helped, but it was difficult to do using the dropper in the Luminizing Drops. It’s difficult to get the product out of the container at all.
Maybe, it’s me? I can be mechanically challenged at times, but I’m not impressed with the dropper Sephora used in this product; it isn’t great. I think in this case, you get what youpay for. I cheaped-out, instead of buying a more expensive NARS Luminizing Highlighter (which I mentioned in the NARS blush review above), in the colour Orgasm.
I didn’t end up needing to buy a luminizer at all, but at least had I bought the NARS luminizer, I would have used it all up. I’m disappointed with the SEPHORA Luminizing Drops.
4. URBAN DECAY – De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray -Oil Free – (www.sephora.ca) – $38.00 CAN (4 0z) or $17.00 (1 oz) Of all the makeup products I have purchased lately,
this one is nearly, the absolute best. I’ve watched many You Tube Makeup Tutorials and many women say using a Makeup Setting Spray so their makeup doesn’t rub off, and stays in place, throughout the day or night helps the duration of their makeup. You can also use the Makeup Setting Spray to keep your skin from appearing oily.
This product is everything it promises to be. It keeps your makeup in place by using a technology which “lowers the temperature of your makeup” so it doesn’t rub-off. One reason I know it stays in place: If I go to take a small afternoon nap, my makeup remains on my face and doesn’t end up all over my white pillow case.
Also, because I want my face to appear ‘glowy’ and ‘luminous’ in the summer, not greasy and oily, the Makeup Setting Spray is exceptional at helping my face not appear as if I’m sweating my makeup off.
I only picked up the 1 oz size on my way to pay for other Sephora products and I have found the product to be a game-changer in my makeup routine. As vital as having the right primer for your makeup can be when you want your makeup to last long, I think the the Makeup Setting Spray is an even better purchase, especially if your skin is oily.
I use the Makeup Setting Spray every day and I don’t break out from it either. If you are searching for a cheaper option, I have seen but not tried, NYC makeup in the drugstore, has their own version of URBAN DECAYS Makeup Setting Spray. If you have tried it, let me know how it works.
5. LIPPYGIRL Vegocentric Lipstick in p-Bomb – (www.lippygirl.com) – $23.00 CAN
I received this lipstick in a Luxebox a couple of boxes ago. I’m so pleased with the colour and how well it stays on your lips, through out the day. LIPPYGIRL lipsticks make your lips feel extremely soft and smooth after applying it.
P-Bomb is a glimmery lipstick in a bright pink but the lipstick colour is not a pink so bright it is blinding or too bold for the day time. P-Bomb’s perfect to finish off a subtle makeup look and I love it for summer and every season of the year.
As well, LIPPYGIRL lipstick is Vegocentric. If you’re a Vegan or someone seeking to use makeup which is naturally based, this is a great lipstick and website for you to check-out.
LIPPYGIRL has many more lipstick shades as well as other makeup products for your eyes, lips, and face. I also get the impression from their website, they’re a Canadian company which I like a great deal. It’s important to support our economy and local businesses in Canada.
6. PHYSICANS FORMULA Palette Mineral Glow Pearls in Translucent – (www.ulta.ca) – $13.99 US I was stoked to find this product in Winners in
Canada. It was on sale for about $5.99 so I paid much less than the listed US price. I couldn’t find the product online in Canada but I’m certain if they carry it at ULTA in the US, you can find it at Shoppers Drug Mart here. I usually am pretty careful I don’t buy too cheap of makeup because it has a greater tendency to make me break-out. However, I have used PHYSICIANS FORMULA before and I know it’s a mineral based makeup which is better for your skin. The value for the quality of product is awesome with this drugstore brand.
I bought Mineral Glow Pearls because the highlighter I have at home, is too intense for day time wear. I only need something that is going to give a little glow to my cheek bones, brow bones, the tip of my nose, and cupids bow of my lip. The pigment of the Mineral Glow Pearls is only a touch luminizing when used alone, or to contour your face, for every day makeup at work or wherever. This highlighter appears more natural than my beloved Candle Light Highlighter by TWO FACED. But I prefer the TWO FACED highlighter when I’m going out with the girls or am out at night.
I’m extremely happy with Mineral Glow Pearls and highly recommend the PHYSCIANS FORMULA brand if you want makeup that won’t make you break-out, is mineral, a cheaper price point, and comes in many shades and colours appropriate for various skin tones. I bought the MineralGlow Pearls in the colour Translucent as I am fair skinned but ULTA also showed the same product available in the colours Beige, Light Bronze, and Bronze.
Everyone hates being an adult and still having to deal with acne. For me, my skin is pretty well-behaved except for twice a year when hot weather comes in the summer time and when winter weather comes in the fall. My skin tends to break out worse than it does any other time, once or twice, before becoming used to the change in weather.
I love LUSH products and they have been so helpful in my beauty routine. On the LUSH online website they say Mask of Magnaminty is technically a “daily facial wash” but it’s main purpose is “deep-cleaning” for the face and body.
As we have been experiencing warmer weather, my skin began to break-out, so I started using the Mask of Magnaminty every two-days. It completely calmed my skin down and the breakouts have gone away. When I’m not having any acne at all, I have switched to using the Mask of Magnaminty once a week. But if I have a bit of acne, I will use the mask every two-days until my acne clears. A person could use the Mask of Magnaminty every day, but for me, I find it drys my skin out if I overuse it.
The mask contains “aduki beans” to exfoliate skin, vanilla to “calm redness,” and honey “to smooth.” As well, their is indeed ‘mint’ in the Mask of Magnaminty which I adore because it provides your skin with this clean tingly feeling after you’ve washed off the mask.
Mask of Magnaminty is a wonderful product, as many LUSH products are. I think it will replace my LUSH Chocolate mask, which has been my go-to for breakouts and weekly skin maintenance. I also find this new mask lasts a long time. I have had the product for over a month now, and have used a quarter of the 125g container mostly applying it every two-days.
I wish I had the Mask of Magnaminty when I was in high school; my skin would have been much nicer. If you know any body struggling, this a fantastic mask. I can’t believe how smooth my skin feels after using it.
Happy May Long Weekend! I haven’t had a beauty post in a long while.
These products I’ve picked up are from February to the present month of May. I didn’t necessarily buy all these products at Sephora, but it is easier to search for them all on the Sephora website. As I’ve mentioned, I often buy some of my makeup and skincare at Shoppers Drug Mart or at Beauty Boutique Online, but they do not always carry all the products and brands I use.
This is Part 1 of a beauty haul. I have a second part coming soon with products unrelated to the eyes. Also, a note, I’m using this post to fulfill a Writing 101 prompt to critique something; I’m certainly critiquing these eye makeup products and tools.
1. NARS – Dual Intensity Eye Shadow in Andromeda – (www.sephora.ca) – $33.00 CAN
I’m fond of NARS blushes and eye shadows because they have fantastic colour pigment. Years ago, I had bought a NARS palette with eye shadows and blush included, but I have never used NARS eyeshadow since I used up that pallete. I was searching for a lighter coloured eyeshadow with a bit of sparkle and shine to it when I saw this NARS shadow at Sephora. The colour Andromeda is perfect for highlighting your brow bone or the corner of your eye. It also is a beautiful colour to wear all over your eyelid if you are looking for a colour to make your eyes pop. Darker colours can make eyes appear smaller (even though darker shadow look lovely in an ombre or smokey eye). Another reason I like Andromeda is because in other eyeshadow palettes I’ve purchased, I always run out of the lightest colours first. My skin is pale so extremely dark colours don’t often suit me unless I’m going out at night but even then, I can only use a bit for effect. For the most part, a medium intensity or lighter coloured eye shadow suits me in the daytime and those of you who have lighter skin tones. I’m able to use Andromeda with my palettes to replace the lighter colours I use up quickly. There are many more gorgeous colours of NARS eyeshadow available at Sephora and I recommend NARS eyeshadow for their quality of pigment and variety of colour.
2. Make Up Forever – Smoky Extravagent Mascara: Dramatic Impact and Graphic Precision – (www.sephora.ca) – $30.00 CAN
I received this mascara as a sample from Sephora. It is an excellent mascara due
to its wonderful volumizing brush. The shape of the brush is extremely wide at the bottom of the mascara wand and tiny at the top. This means you receive major volume where your lashes need volume in the middle of your eyelashes, but the wand still picks up the tiny lashes in the outer corners of your eyes. I’m extremely pleased with this mascara.
Using the product, I’ve had to use a waterproof mascara over top (as usual) as regular mascara tends to streak around my eyes due to my oilier skin. With the waterproof mascara over top the Smokey Extravagant Mascara, the product stays on well. On Sephora’s website, however; I found a waterproof version of the Smokey Extravagant mascara called Aqua Smokey Extravagant Water Proof Mascara. The price is exactly the same, so if I bought this mascara in the future I would buy the waterproof version. Using the regular mascara or the waterproof version, Smokey Extravagant is a fantastic mascara, one of the best mascaras I’ve used in a long time. The brush on the mascara wand makes such a huge difference when you apply mascara, not to mention a mascara formula which doesn’t become clumpy over time.
3. Tarte – Lights, Camera, Lashes 4 in 1 Mascara – (www.sephora.ca) – $25.00 CAN
I received this mascara as a sample from Tarte when I ordered off their website. It is a great mascara. The brush is designed so it picks up every lash and I know many people who rave about this mascara. There is also a waterproof version available on Sephora called Lights, Camera, Splashes, for the exact same price. I was pleased how the Lights, Camera, Lashes mascara wand picked up every one of my lashes coating them with mascara. I would have said it was the most awesome mascara, before I tried the Make Up Forever mascara above. The issue is, sometimes mascara wands which pick-up every tiny lash, fail to create volume in your eyelashes where you need it. The mascara itself appeared to be a great formula but I think the Lights, Camera, Lashes brush needs a bit of work. I believe it is an excellent mascara and I would use a sample again if I received it, but after using the Make Up Forever Smoky Extravagant mascara, I think the Tarte mascara doesn’t quite measure up .On the upside, Tarte products are made from natural minerals and are a Vegan makeup line so if you’re looking for these aspects and want makeup that is of excellent quality, Tarte is the brand to use. As well, a five dollars difference in price between the two mascaras maybe a deal breaker for some of you.
4. Stila – Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black and Midnight Blue – (www.sephora.ca) – $29.00 CAN
Months ago, I was searching for a
waterproof liquid eyeliner to replace my Lancome liner, which changed after many years. I had used the non-waterproof version of the Stila liquid eyeliners and was not impressed. I was hesitant to try the waterproof version, but after seeing how intense the black eyeliner was on my hand, I decide to give the black eyeliner a try. It has become my new go-to for black eyeliner. The felt tip is pointy so you can give yourself a thinner line or build it up to be a thicker line. The Intense Black liner has lasted me four-months and is going strong.
Recently, I have seen a trend in magazines, of blue eyeliner with a paired down eye of basic eyeshadow. I went and I purchased the same Stila liner I have
in the colour Midnight Blue. I probably chose a darker blue than they showed in the magazine, but I’m extremely happy with this Midnight blue liner and have been wearing it everyday since I bought it. It’s dark enough that it doesn’t make your eyeliner completely standout, but the Midnight blue is change enough you notice it isn’t black liner. The colour goes well with blue eyes and I imagine it would appear beautiful on people with brown eyes, as it is an opposite colour for brown eyes in makeup. I believe these Stila liquid eyeliners are a fantastic investment for eyeliner, whatever the colour(s) you choose. Sephora has other colour options available as well. Also, the waterproof liquid liner stays on your lash line well and works well for giving yourself a cat-eye flick. You are able to wipe a bit of liner away if you’ve messed up your line, as long as you do it immediately after applying. If you’ve waited too long, you can take some concealer on a Q-tip and gently make some of your eyeliner fade and disappear where you messed up.
For those of you who have trouble with eyeliner, especially liquid eyeliner. Here is a helpful YouTube Tutorial I found on Basic Eyeliner this morning:
5. Urban Decay Eye Shadow Primer Potion in Minor Sin – (www.sephora.ca) – $26.00 CAN
I have used various versions of Urban Decay eye shadow primer for years. Their
primers for eye shadow are the absolute best and help your eyeshadow stay put on your eyelid, without your eye shadow fading. I usually use Urban Decay’s basic primer but I chose to buy Minor Sin this time as it has a bit of a shimmery golden sheen to it and can be worn without eye shadow. Layering eye shadow over Minor Sin, also gives your eye shadow a slight sheen underneath, if you don’t apply too much shadow over top. Urban Decay eye shadow primers also last a long time. I usually receive over six-months use out of a large tube.
The only issue I have with Minor Sin is I do not like that its tube is not a squeeze tube such as my Urban Decay eye shadow primers have been in the past. Minor Sin comes with a brush and I don’t like the brush. I don’t believe it is as sanitary as a squeeze tube. You shouldn’t place the primer directly on your eyelid/eye area with the brush because bacteria could get into the tube once you put the brush back in. I think the best idea is to put some of the primer on the back of your hand and use your fingers to apply it to your eyes, however; I do not like this method either because it is easy to waste the product accidentally applying too much product to the back of your hand. The squeeze tube was both more sanitary and made the primer last longer as you only used as much primer as needed with the squeeze tube. I love how Minor Sin looks and works as a primer, but I’m not happy with the design change of the tube and brush.
6. Sephora – Must Have Powder Eye Shadow Brush #60 – (www.sephora.ca) – $19.00 CAN
My last fluffy eye shadow brush I bought was from Shoppers Drug Mart and I still have it and use it. But Shoppers Drug Mart didn’t have the same brush available so I went to Sephora, whose brushes I have found to be better than Shoppers Drug Mart brand makeup brushes anyways. I didn’t choose Sephora’s top of the line brushes as I have with some of my makeup brushes such a foundation brush or a blush brush. I do not find it necessary to have top quality makeup brushes with eyeshadow brushes, which don’t go through the wear and tear other brushes do. I wanted another fluffier powder brush to blend eyeshadow above my lid and this brush works perfectly for the job. It’s not as fluffy as the Shoppers Drug Mart brush but it it is good enough and washes up well with dish soap. No hairs have fallen out of the brush so I believe for the price point and design, the brush is excellent.
Much of what I said with the last eyeshadow brush applies with this crease eye shadow
brush. The crease eye shadow brush is used to blend a darker shade of eyeshadow into your crease area. I have and use my first crease eyeshadow brush from Shoppers Drug Mart and I like it better than the one I bought at Sephora.
Although, the Sephora brush is nice and the hair doesn’t fall out when you wash it, the brush is a bit big and fluffy for blending eye shadow in one’s eye crease. It works, but it is easy to accidentally apply too much eye shadow in your crease with this brush. But for my purposes, this brush is fine. I use it to go in after I have used my original Shoppers Drug Mart crease brush, and blend all the eye makeup in my crease together. The reason I bought both brushes was for blending purposes and not to actually apply eyeshadow, although; I will probably use the brushes for both jobs. I’m happy with both brushes, but wish the crease eye shadow brush was smaller and less fluffy. For the price point and quality, they are both excellent brushes.
I have a love/hate relationship with eyeshadow palettes. I’m particularly, careful when I buy one because I need to be able to wear and look good in all or most of the colours in the palette for it to be worth it for me to buy. My longtime favorite has been UrbanDecayNaked Basics for pretty brown/skin tone coloured shadow that works everyday and can be taken from day to night by adding definition in your eye crease or the outside corner of your crease with a darker shade. It is a wonderful matte palette from a dependable eyeshadow brand.
But, I have been searching for a palette with a bit more variety in it after using up my last Urban Decay Basic’s palette. I have
wanted a palette with some shimmer or sparkle in it, not all shades, but some. Also, I have wanted a palette that has a few more choices in the family of brown shades with at least three lighter colours. I have found this palette! It is the Tartelette in Bloom Palette by Tarte. I have other Tarte eyeshadow and blush and I adore that Tarte has natural Amazonian Clay based products with excellent pigment. The palette is $54.00 at Sephora but if you sign up for Tarte online you can often buy their products from five to thirty percent off your purchase on certain occasions.
Also, I would like to note that Tarte’sLights, Cameras, Lashes mascara is awesome too. I have a sample from Tarte I’m currently using. It can also be found at Sephora for $25.00. It is great at coating every lash in mascara without missing lashes as some mascaras do. It can be bought in a waterproof formula ( Lights, Cameras, Splashes) which I think I’m going to have to try. But, I have the regular version, so I am going over it with a second coat of cheap waterproof mascara, so Tarte’s mascara doesn’t end up under my eyes.
Also, it is important to ensure your eyeshadow lasts and stays put on your eyes by using an eye primer such as the one below by Urban Decay. However, I think if you use your regular face primer on your eyes, it will keep your eyeshadow lasting longer as well, and that’s one less product you need to buy — but it is up to you.
Also, having the right tools helps when applying eyeshadow. I purchased these two eyeshadow brushes at Shoppers Drug Mart awhile ago and they are Shoppers Drug Mart’s own brand called Quo which you can find at Beauty Boutique online. Quo has a variety of makeup brushes. One Quo makeup brush line is cheaper and the other is more expensive; however, the more expensive line tends to last years (except their foundation brush).
**Also, please remember to keep your brushes clean and bacteria free. Dish soap and shampoo ( tea-tree oil shampoo is ideal) are both superb ways to clean your brushes once a week or every two-weeks if that is all you can do. If you have a makeup brush that gets ‘wet’ such as your foundation brush, you definitely need to wash that one at least once a week to keep it clean.
What I want to share with you today are two eyeshadow looks which can be achieved with this palette. One look comes with a small insert in the eyeshadow palette, and the other I came up with.
Look 1: Sunflower Stare
1. Sweep the shade funny girl all over your your lid and upper eye area.
2. Add definition by blending rebel into your crease.
3. Apply firecracker to the outer corner of your crease and eye.
4. Highlight your brow bone with charmer and put flower child in the inner corner of your lid.
Look 2: Neutral Eye with Sparkle
1. Apply flower child all over your eyelid and upper eye area.
2. Sweep jetsetter across only your eyelid.
3. Use rocker to add definition in your crease and the corner of your eye.
4. Take charmer and highlight your brow bone and the inner corners of your eye.
Hi everyone. If you are interested in beauty products and reviews on them, today is a good day to be reading my blog. I had a few gift cards and points to use over the holidays after buying presents and building up points from Fall. I hope you like my beauty haul for the current time.
1. NAR’S Blush – (www.sephora.ca ) -$37.00 – I am a huge fan of NARS’ blushes. They are on the more expensive side for a blush but the pigment is always fantastic and a blush compact lasts a long time. I was looking for the colour ‘Gaiety’ in Sephora when I bought my blush and I couldn’t find it. I settled for the colour ‘Desire.’ ‘Desire’ is a wonderful bright almost neon pink colour. I had to be careful when I picked up the colour with Sephora blush brush. At first, I swept too much pigment up. When I applied the blush to my face the bright pink made me look like a saloon girl from bygone days. I only have to have my blush brush barely graze ‘Desire’ and I pick up enough colour pigment for one cheek. I don’t find this happens with every NARS’ blush colour I have as compared to other blush brands. You only have to be careful with NARS’ blush colour ‘Desire’ as far as I know. This NARS blush line is the same blush line which has the wonderful ‘Orgasm’ color which everyone loves because it looks nice on most skin tones.
If you’re looking for a cheaper blush which still has excellent pigment, I would recommend blush by Tarte. I have a few Tarte blushes and the pigment is superb. Plus, Tarte is a natural makeup made from Amazonian Clay; however, NARS has beautiful colours you can’t find anywhere else, and I think their pigment rivals most blushes I have tried. Years after I first bought a small NARS palette, I’m still scraping the lasts bit of the two blush colours remaining out of the container.
2. Benefit Hoola Bronzer – (www.sephora.ca) – $36.00 – I bought this wonderful face palette
from Tarte this summer which had a Bronzer, Highlighter, and Blush. Unfortunately, I used the palett fast especially since the Highlighter and Blush were half the size of the Bronzer. It was a great palette for travelling in the summer because I had all my contouring colours together. The Bronzer by Tarte is awesome because it isn’t overwhelming on pale skin; it is a bit orangey; however, I didn’t want to buy the whole palette again because I went through the highlighter and blush so fast. I am scraping the last bits of the Bronzer out each time I contour my face.
I asked a fantastic beauty blogger named Victoria Styles to recommend a Bronzer I could use as a darker contour colour on my light skin. Victoria’s blog is called Living Disrobed. She recommended’ Hoola’ by Benefit.
I have been extremely happy with this Bronzer as a darker contouring color. The pigment is great and who doesn’t love Benefit, they make great makeup with fun packaging. I think the Bronzer colour suits me a little better then the Tarte Bronzer as much as I liked it, because the Benefit Bronzer colour is cooler. I use only a little of it on my hairline, beneath my cheek bones, and to contour around the edge of my face. Contouring is great when you want to be wearing more makeup and make your face appear thinner for certain occasions. I adore a highlighter I have been using from Two Faced called ‘Candle Light.’ This Benefit Bronzer was exactly what I needed. I recommend the product and thank you to Victoria for helping me choose it.
3. Lancôme Artliner 24Hour – (www.sephora.ca)- $38.00 – When I went to choose my favourite liquid eyeliner by Lancôme, I was a bit dismayed because they did not have my regular black liquid eyeliner at Sephora. The difference between the new Lancôme eyeliner and the old one I’ve been using is the old liquid liner was only ‘Artliner’ and not ‘Artliner 24 hour’ which is waterproof. There’s a difference and I didn’t realize it. The girl who was helping me at Sephora said Lancôme had come out with a newer liquid eyeliner. It was supposed to be a liquid liner with a better foam tipped brush.
It’s hard to convince me the new liquid liner is better because I have used the original ‘Artliner’ in black\Noir for five or six years. But they are not making the original liner anymore.
I am not impressed with this eyeliner. I kept getting a thicker line then I wanted and I couldn’t get the little flick I was always so able to artfully achieve with the original liner. But I have gotten used to ’24hour Artliner’ and the brush is actually more precise. You only need to hold it so the point is against your lashline, not the side of the brush as with the original Artliner liquid eyeliner. You also need ample time for this eyeliner to dry as in you have to wait five minutes so your eyeliner doesn’t end up all over your eye areas on your face.
What I also do not like about the ’24hour’ liner is the colour on your lash line is not opaque. It’s not black and it should be. It looks like a see-through greyish colour and the eyeliner doesn’t apply well over eyeshadow. The tube is smaller as well. I’m not sure if it means it won’t last me for four months as the original ‘Artliner’ did. The tube of the original ‘Artliner’ could only seem bigger then the new tube but not actually be bigger.
I should mention, I have altered this part of this blog since I published this post. I was sick of this eyeliner product and that it didn’t do it’s job. I was too late to return it to Shopper’s Drug Mart where I purchased it but I contacted http://www.lancome.ca by email and they are issuing me a cheque in the mail for refund. Great service Lancome, my faith in your products is restored. Please go back to your old liquid Artliner.
4. It Works Hello Lashes 5 in 1 Clinically Proven Mascara – (www.ulta.com) – $24.00 (US) – I
wasn’t sure where to find this mascara in Canada. I’m sure you can buy it somewhere since I received it in Luxebox which is a Canadian beauty box. But even though our dollar is low, if you love this mascara, Canadians can order from Ulta. This five in one mascara is awesome. I don’t often say this about mascaras. I have gone through many and the fact this mascara is not a waterproof mascara, speaks to how good the product is. I apply ‘Hello Lashes’ first, and then I apply a waterproof mascara over top and the problem of my mascara travelling onto my oily eye areas is solved. You might want to check under your eyes in the day though, in case some of the mascara has made it under your eyes. I have had success with the Mascara staying on my lower eyelashes but not perfect.
What’s so special about this five in one mascara I received? Well the brush is a fantastic design. There is a little ball of a brush on the end of the mascara wand over top a regular mascara brush. This brush is so helpful for putting mascara on every single tiny eyelash I have. Often, we forget about the lashes at the corner of our eyes, especially if your lashes are blond. This product is clinically proven to increase the length and volume of your lashes. It is a natural formula and contains ingredients which are good for your lashes and a lash enhancing serum. The Ulta website says it was developed with help from leading plastic surgeons. I find this mascara to be superb. My lashes are healthier and have increased in volume, length, and thickness since I started using the mascara. The brush really does get every lash. It surprises me it would work so well and so fast. But it does.
Soap and Glory: Sugar Crush Body Wash – (www.beautyboutique.ca) – $16.00 – I bought this product with Shopper’s Optimum points because I love the body butter I bought from Soap and Glory at Shoppers Drug Mart. Beauty Boutique is their newly launched online website. I wanted to try out some of Soap and Glory’s other products so one of them I am trying is this body wash which is more of a scrub. I use it a few times a week with another Soap and Glory body wash which is only a body wash. I don’t need to exfoliate my skin everyday. I find it becomes a little dry if I do that in Winter. But this body wash scrub smells great and sugar is a fantastic natural body scrub. Also, the product doesn’t cost too much. So, I might have to consider replacing my Lush ‘Sea Salt body scrub.’ If only for the reason, this product is more cost effective and lasts longer; not to mention the fragrance.
Soap and Glory: Clean on Me – (www.beautyboutique.ca ) – $14.00 – Generally, I like a
creamy body wash such as this ‘Clean on Me,’ to moisturize my skin in Winter. This is great because it moisturizes your skin well and smells good too. I use it when I am not using the body wash scrub. It contains mandarin peals, jasmine, and a list of other natural ingredients. This is probably, why I like it so much. Check out Soap and Glory products at your local drugstore you will be happy to discover them.
If you are buying at Shoppers Drug Mart make sure to use your Optimum Card or download their Optimum card application so you can download coupons for extra Optimum points each time you make a purchase from Shoppers. You can also get Optimum points off of Beauty Boutique online and Murale in store and online.
Sometimes when you need a lot of stuff from Shoppers you can receive ten thousand or eighteen thousand points for spending forty, fifty, seventy five, or a hundred dollars. They also have weekends where you can receive twenty times the Optimum points or the points you do have on your Optimum card or Optimum card application, are worth more. I buy stuff at Shoppers DrugMart all the time so, during the entire Christmas season I was able to redeem points once for $60.00 and once this last time for $85.00. Your Optimum points build quickly so it is worth it to shop at Shoppers Drug Mart for makeup both more luxury brands and inexpensive brands such as Maybelline or L’Oreal.
