Day 11 – NaPoWriMo/A to Z Challenge/Writing Prompt: Poem – Bop – “Peripheral Madness” #NaPoWriMo #AtoZchallenge #poetry

Today’s NaPoWrIMo prompt is to write a poetry form called the ” Bop, a kind of combination sonnet + song. . In the basic Bop poem, a six-line stanza introduces the problem, and is followed by a one-line refrain. The next, eight-line stanza discusses and develops the problem, and is again followed by the one-line refrain. Then, another six-line stanza resolves or concludes the problem, and is again followed by the refrain.” For the A to Z Challenge the authors name will begin with letter J from GoodRead’s quotes. Thanks to MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for last week’s writing prompt and picture.

“I don’t think it had ever occurred to me that man’s supremacy is not primarily due to his brain, as most of the books would have one think. It is due to the brain’s capacity to make use of the information conveyed to it by a narrow band of visible light rays. His civilization, all that he had achieved or might achieve, hung upon his ability to perceive that range of vibrations from red to violet. Without that, he was lost.”  ― John Wyndham, The Day of the Triffids

————

Sight I think is amazing for what could,

We see without vision, eyes to perceive?

The world around us is intricate, complex,

So our eyes make sense of the colours, shade —

Tints, tones, complementary colours, those —

In the same family, yet inside were sightless

Gazing beyond sight, gazing within, without.

——-

It’s fascinating to think how each of —

Us sees the same thing differently; by —

Sight and experience — the image changes.

All see such varied pictures notice where,

The colours blur, wind; how they can deceive us.

How red, green, purple, blue, orange and yellow,

Mix together, painterly dragons fly.

Optical illusions nearly missed disguised.

Gazing beyond sight, gazing within, without.

——-

Blended carefully the animals come —

To life; birds, unicorns, oxen, and some,

Mythical creatures, pale faces turned down.

See not only within the painting see —

Inside your heart, for the truth sits there,

Ignore the blindness, learn to fathom more.

Gazing beyond sight, gazing within, without.

Here’s she,

His sweet angel,

Wearing her frothy gown,

She’s beautiful, elegant,

A wife any man could love or desire.

She’s the epitome, the standard,

What women should be like,

Humming music,

Here’s she.

——–

Her hair,

Perfectly coiffed,

Mother of six children,

Few lines on her face, she holds up.

Although, life’s pressure can be confining,

Her lips smile a gesture rehearsed.

What’s underneath in her —

Boarding school mind,

Her hair?

——

Model,

She’d wants all to —

Perceive she’s the perfect wife.

Society expects her to —

Set perfect example because —

She’s upperclass, the lead in the charade.

Acting as the moral —

Center, she must

Of the great dame,

Her family, pride, joy,

Madame’s smile is slipping because,

Performing all the time is exhausting.

She wonders if she might sit with —

You may not notice, I’m a work of art

My body my canvas, I define my part;

My vision for my world; Mad Max who darts,

From posers surrounding; their judgment.

Skull rings which frighten, mean I’m them nudging,

To think outside what they perceive; cold remarks.

They’ll swear vindictively, “That punk, upstart;

Who’s he think he is? His ink such a lark.”

I’ve tuned them all out, their words toxic sludge,

I’m reckless, I’m fine; I’m a work of art.

I’m older now, I’ve forgotten their darts

Aimed to hit my stillrock hard diamond heart.

Dress shirts, ties, hide tattoos; I’ll not begrudge,

Rough nights aided, their beauty never smudged.

I know too well, what it’s like, to play a part.

I’m reckless, I’m fine; I’m a work of art.

Poem: Free Verse – “In Eyes Perceive” #wordhighjuly #poetry #balintataw

———

I’ve lost clarity; it’s obvious, observe —

When I’m peering through dense walls,

Where you disguise your life;

I’m blinded from your changing eyes.

Obsidian pupils, shining as glass;

Solidification of molten lava black.

Rings of green surround pupils.

In certain light, your eyes blackish-green fire;

In another light, they’re a grassy knoll.

I perceive your eyes, understanding you;

When you’re hostil, temperamental;

Your eyes alter colour, swirling into black.

A bitter ocean, a complex green.

Obsidian pupils merge; fight pleasant green.

The storm rages, your eyes stay grating.

As steel and concrete,

You’re cold, unflinching.

——-

When you’re serene and absorbed in life;

Your eyes tint with light,

Glow with presence;

Glimmering alert, understanding.

Conversing comfortably;

Words match your eyes.

Face, sure and bright;

Joy glows from your lips,

The creases in your smile.

Wrinkles, fan your eyes;

You laugh and illuminate my sight.

Your fantastic mood drawing people to you,

My beacon.

——-

But my favourite vantage,

Of your eyes;

Dark pupils focus, adore me slow.

Feeding an ethereal glow;

Throwing off embers of warmth.

Mysterious eyes, wide-open;

Your true-self, no posing.

Brilliant fire of space simmering;

Us a compass twain,

Star dust and nebulas.

You appear almost sleepy,

Eyes perceiving my eyes;

Mood indicators; receptors of feeling.

The lights in all the stars,

Of every universe, combined.

Heat from your heart (and other parts),

Obsidian meeting obsidian sheen;

Aurora Borealis in our eyes gleam.

Waves of heat and colour impress.

Of all the giant and tiny world’s,

Unparalleled; the world we combine.

Nebulas spark across the dark;

Your truth is when you memorize me,
Satisfied smile, softly content.
We’ve conquered stars;

As light is the only source,

Differing our eyes; a genetic defect passed,

Transforming brown, to blue and green;

The Northern Lights,

Enfolding us in time, our space.

Turns out blue or green eyes is not a pigment, it has to do with structural colour and the scattering of light in certain conditions.

Poem: Wrapped Refrain –  “Relationships and Childhood”

Thanks to The Daily Post for the prompt words Childhood, Sky, Purpose, and Angry.

——

——-

What made us now, this moment past

How’d we become so frail, like glass.

Feelings torn, mended, stitches —

Reopened, wounds our glitches.

Remembering yet, we’re sky high humans so lost.

Can we find, the purpose of us charred, at what cost?

——

What is it to have faith, to believe?

Words your lips intone I perceive?

See we only through the looking —

Glass; are reflections picture books,

Children read us, seeing clearer, we’re angry and —

Getting madder; if only sky cleared, clouds not sad .

——

Our faces to the little ones,

Need appear smiling, not loathsome.

Bring back laughter, joy, and pleasure.

Find every day peace, time treasured.

So their childhood vision is happiness and light.

Through our faces, read clear, inner peace, delight.

——

If in each other we peer past,

The anger each possess and fast,

Find paths through shadows dark and grim,

Maybe, then we search beyond sin.

See the rain drop on cool skin, sliding, patterns desire.

Eyes are opened wide; blast of furnace, passion fires.

——

Our own mystery of life we guard,

Though life throw many dangers hard.

We prevail, faith our purpose and —

Each other’s love; though time stand —

Not still for anyone of us on earth, who’s living,

What made us now, taught us in childhood to forgive.

Poem: Senryu – ” No Thought.”

 Senryu (also called human haiku) is an unrhymed Japanese verse consisting of three unrhymed lines of five, seven, and five syllables (5, 7, 5) or 17 syllables in all. Senryu is usually written in the present tense and only references to some aspect of human nature or emotions. They possess no references to the natural world and thus stand out from nature/seasonal haiku.

The 5/7/5 rule was made up for school children to understand and learn this type of poetry. For an in depth description of Haiku, please visit the Shadow Poetry Haiku, Senryu, and Tanka section. There is much more to senryu than the madeup 5/7/5 version.

Please see Shadow Poetry for more information.

He’s bewitching me,

I don’t perceive his allure.

He hides fatal flaws.

——

Lips to lips, regard,

Eyes which fascinate appeal,

His intentions veil.

—–

Articulated,

He fails to grasp pain is real,

He wounds without thought.
