#OctPoWriMo Day 20/Three Line Tales: Poem – Blank Verse – “The Red of Sleep” #3LineTales #amwritingpoetry

For OctPoWriMo Day 20 the prompt is: What color is it? Also, combining with #3LineTales from Sonya of Only 100 Words. Unfortunately, I’ve more than 3 lines or stanzas, but the picture works well!

What color is it? Blood-red or poppy?

Vermilion, cherry, apple or roses?

Gerbera-Daisy bled, or Scarlet?

Rust, copper, orange-red, red-wine or dead-red?

Is it the color of sin –a siren?

Or the shade of glory in battle?

Is it a Chinese wedding dress beaded,

Or cinnamon hearts on Valentine’s?

Is it love or fierce aggression? Anger?

Is it blood slipping down a soldier’s blade?

Blood of every fallen man, history’s —

Nameless sacrificed for freedom or,

To conquer land, or escape into the —

Red Sea parted, never turned back blue.

Red is memory, passion, delight, and —

Death that stains, with transgressions ink;

Indelible as a teacher’s x-marks.

Red’s Opium Dens, Jingle Jangle’s dread;

But, most I think of poppies that blow, grow,

On Vimmy Ridge, where our youth bled out, all —

These wars where soldiers died for peace.

It reigns, while tyrants burn, and hero’s sleep.

#OctPoWriMo Day 13/100 Word Wednesday: Poem – Blitz – “Pressure Engraved” #amwritingpoetry #100WordWordWednesday

For OctPoWriMo Day 13 the Prompt is If I We’re You. Also, I’m combining with 100 Word Wednesdays from Bikurgurl’s Photo Prompt.

Are there things you sometimes need to get off your chest? When was the last time you felt strongly that someone needed to see things from your point of view? I think this prompt lends itself perfectly to a Blitz Poem.

Such pressure rising as the dim lake drowns

Putrid water invades mr lungs, crushes my chest

Chest choking salt-water terrified

Chest rasping with each tiny breath

Breath weighted with ocean filth

Breath that’s sticky, wet, toxic

Toxic fears cripple my legs, tire-out hands treading

Toxic fears of the half-dead: I’m gasping

Gasping, a dumbbell crushing my lungs

Gasping as I let out deep breathes to cleanse

Cleanse my spirit of skin shivering

Cleanse my heart of this stress-inducing love

Love that drowns and makes me whole

Love that lets me finally find

Find a blissful beach without monstrous waves

Find a warm place on the sand to sleep

Sleep, I yearn for it as banshees screech

Sleep, I beg for it as the predators howl

Howl as I quiver, biting my nails

Howl as my courage trickles away– I’m outwitted

Outwitted by breathless panic, desperate pain

Outwitted, the Minotaurs talons clawing my neck

Neck enwrapped with silken scarves choking

Neck bundled beneath feather-silk, dreams killing

Killing me softly, these life-altering responsibilities

Killing me softly, these rigid expectations

Expectations you hold of I so meek

Expectations you hold, not understanding —

Understanding I’m a pins width from crashing

Understanding how with difficulty, I have strived

Strived to be where I am

Strived to be myself and arise

Arise, but not to discover I’m disadvantaged

Arise, but not to ignore my intuitive doubts

Doubts as steel wool scratches

Doubts as I’m carried out by the tide in the storm’s silence

Silence, if only for a moment I can collapse

Silence, self-care to reforge my walls

Walls of back-breaking stone, tough alloys

Walls that keep the creatures harming at bay, to —

To keep me safe, crippled shoulders un-tensed

To keep my bastion strong, so I can lay me down

Lay me down without your vise-like grip engraved

Lay me down to recover, before I rise to respire and inhale

Gripping my hands, crescent marks engraved

No trembling stress shocking, only mountain air to inhale.

100 Word Wednesdays/Sunday Writing Prompt: Poem – Decuaine – “No More Rough Currents” #amwriting #poetry #100WordWednesday #MLMM

Thanks to Bikurgurl for hosting #100WordWednesdays and also thanks to Michael of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting a Sunday Writing Prompt based on a Watery theme and one of the topics: Up the creek without a paddle, Wading Upstream, The River Flowing Up a Hill, and When the Fish Stop Biting.

Caramel and cantaloupe burn white,

The sun setting, in fiery depths it gleams.

We struggle ‘gainst the current, it’s our plight,

A journey many take wading upstream.

We fight not to slip, sweat-stained body’s heave,

Then, deltas and islands draw near, take form.

In felicitous breezes, drenched clothes dry clean,

Acrid earth bears us, we tremble on shore.

Caramel, Bellini sky’s, rain pours —

We clasp tight hands waiting for the ‘morrow.

*****

Another night in the grit of sands touch,

We dream of skyscrapers, our souls believe;

We’re past the current, our fingers bold clutch,

Memories, hopes, the warmth of home found breathes.

No more suffering in past with disease.

A butterscotch sky, fresh peaches, tall palms —

The sun rises — a gift, fresh view point now gleaned.

The beach busies, children run as waves fall,

Tumbling sandcastles near shores, claiming walls;

The peace of our Home, no rough currents, at all.

*****

“Why do ya drive out here all da time, Jaron?”

“Ta clear me head. Especially after it rains, I love de scent of de damp earth and when dat rainbow appears I feel rapt. The storms out here are terrible. But der is truly a calm after da storm when a rainbow ‘appens.”

Dave scratched his beard. “I always wondered why such a lovely event occurred. Da scientific expla’tion of refracted light or someden’ like dat, never feels to me like I’m gettin’ da full deal.”

Jaron laughed. “You neva heard da story of Noah, mister well-read.”

“Yeah, a long time ago. Da rainbow was a promise ta never destroy da earth again by flood. But I always thought, there are worse ways ta go dan by drowning.” Dave shook his head and sighed.

“What were ya thinkin’? Fire, volcanoes, earth quakes or worse?”

Dave shrugged. “I prefer nat ta think about it. Besides we’re nat talking about a rainbow anymore jus’ da end of ta earth. Revelations, I think.”

Jaron pulled out a cool six pack from the trunk of his car. He tossed a can to Dave. “I think right now I jast prefer ta look at dat rainbow and focus on hope. Whatever comes will come but better dat I don’t know about it or dat I’m already dead.”

“Dat’s da truth there, Jaron.”

Notable Quotes: Special New Years Edition – January 2018 #pinterest #quotes

Happy New Years! As I put this piece together we have about ten minutes to go in Alberta, Canada. Mother Nature, as she did in many parts of the world, decided to make it more than minus forty degrees Celsius with the wind chill so most of the New Years events here were cancelled.

The fireworks, I believe were still happening, but they were supposed to be earlier this year for families and kids, but I didn’t hear any fireworks popping and crackling yet. I usually do from where we live. Anyways I hope you enjoyed your New Years celebrations tucked snug in your home, at a party, or at New Years events. Wishing you all much happiness and joy.

So, here we go . . . Oh the fireworks have started. 🎉 Some of these quotes are a bit cheeky, as well.

Out on Kayaks arrived on beach,

Where topaz sea foam ocean waves crashed.

Topaz turns Santorini blue soft

Calm waves shallow bring us, into shore.

Shedding life jackets and wetsuits left,

Zippers released quick; swimsuits worn,

Nothing but comfort for us here now.

We lie on white sands relaxed our —

Bodies tired, cleansing breath respired.

After hours paddling through far out —

Seas where the ocean waves fought us hard.

Tangling our fingers we absorb sun-

Light; we dry out and sleep, towels,

Our beds as we’re dead still, post kayake —

Slumber, sunglasses cover poppy —

Eyes in drugged sleep; we’re contented souls,

The soothing lull of tide rhythm of —

Our beach life desired most until,

We’re forced to return to our home.

To the city, our condo precious

Tranquil and never unloved but;

For moments we lay here at peace our,

Lives restored by kayaking and such,

Lazy naps in ocean sands adored.

Fly with me to the forest enchanted,

Where all magic life is fair transplanted.

Lacking peace in cities it’s ungranted,

Fly to the faeries for those sweet romantics.

Into the gleaming marsh of enchantment,

Forget  pain with tranquility granted.

Come fly with me, to the magic forest.

You may not believe me, you may not care,

Let me lead, you’ll never be disparaged

Blue birds tweet-talk, sweet advice they share,

Deer bow low, demand fur be stroked right there.

Behind their ears, on their bellies so bared.

Nymphs stunning, gorgeous come out they’re aware,

You’ve paid a visit, they chatter, wine shared,

Ambrosia sweets flow, your body’s repaired

Come fly with me, to the magic forest.

Visit anytime, day or night, be pleased,

Someone’s awake with wine or cold tea.

Faeries they greet with moonshine and they tease

You’ll never admit, this place is your peace,

The magic in your heart, is to believe.

Come fly with me, to the magic forest.

Saturday’s Hunt: Poem – Rondeau – “Midnight Prayers” #amwriting #poetry #saturdayshunt

Midnight prayers, bitter sweet, such raw aches burn,

Reconcile the words, reasons my heart hurts.

Midnight prayers, pleading for courage, concerns —

Of broken-hearted lonileness which —

Cannot be hidden behind work and lists,

Keep yourself busy, exhaustion, pleads yearn —

To lay back and rest, a moment to breathe,

Finding being busy deeply deceives.

Just one more moment, I can laugh and dream;

Midnight prayers crying out, answer me.

Here my desires, my concerns, my needs,

Teach me to follow, in pain believe.

There has to be more to life than alone,

More than suffering, tears and sleepless moans.

There’s a silver lining in ripped seams;

Midnight prayers crying out, answer me.

——

There are days,

I cannot think, I’m trapped,

Cornered as a sleek red fox,

The Predator’s main course.

Searching for my escape,

Running through the woods.

Tripping on my,

Shaking aching legs.

Adrenaline quicksilver,

Sliding through my veins.

Lungs gasping;

A haunted, hunted child.

By chance, by divinity,

A blessing found,

My ‘hobbits hole.’

My home sweet home;

A hiding place,

To wait out enemies,

Gnashing, clashing,

With pointed teeth.

Vicious men of ill repute,

Fortune or fate despise.

A crook in a fallen tree;

A hole to spy for danger,

As I veil myself beneath,

Thick leaved branches,

Cut from surrounding trees,

Snuggled in my hobbits hole,

Wishing Lord God,

Bless me in my tiny hiding place.

Leave me unconfronted,

Unfound, an illusion —

Of invisibility to threats.

Basking in your security,

Graciously provided,

Let this not be the end.

And I could’ve been wrong,

I could’ve lost hope,

I could’ve been dinner;

Torn apart by savage beasts.

But serenity entered,

On angel’s transparent wings,

Calmed my heart, quickening.

While the peace that —

Passes all understanding;

Surrounded and enfolded me.

When the dread made,

 My skin crawl.

When I bit my lip drawing blood,

Sharp teeth approaching,

A beast breathing  heavily,

A brutal carnivore.

Wickedness sure to devour;

But he found me not,

I was blessed, I was safe.

Invisible to the lion,

Remaining in my hobbit hole,

Fortitudes fortress,

My hiding place.

And when all was safe,

 Morn’s light illuminated.

The dread of frights,

Of the forest night,

The predators that maim,

And kill, disappeared into,

The earth’s bowels.

I prayed, gave thanks,

And into sunlight I fled,

The prey who survived.

So blessed with life,

Living to fight another night,

Another beast,

Serenity my companion,

My relief.

Oh painted sky, with red-orange folds,

Find the strokes to blend, paint flows.

Form the brilliant image, of peace,

The one that provides life release.

Hold me in your embolded reds, orange-gray soothing,

I’m tired; painters tranquil strokes enfold, silk smoothing.
