Fall Beauty Haul 2016 Part Two

Welcome to Part Two of my Fall Beauty Haul 2016. These are all products I have tried since the spring. I apologize as I meant to have Part Two out closer to Part One but life has been busy and I’ve been quite exhausted lately due to health issues. Anyway’s here’s my  Beauty Haul Part Two:

1.Make Up Forever Aqua Smoky Extravagant Waterproof Mascara: Dramatic Impact and Graphic Precision – (www.sephora.ca) – $30.00 CAN

make-up-for-ever-extravagent-waterproof-mascara
Make Up For Ever Aqua Smoky Extravagant Waterproof Mascara (www.sephora.ca) – $30.00 CAN
I’m most definitely a huge Make Up For Ever Fan. Their products are always awesome quality at a reasonable price. For this mascara, I was able to try a sample-size in the non-waterproof version first. I loved the cone shaped brush and was so excited to try the mascara in the waterproof full-sized version. However, the problem with the waterproof version is becoming used to using the cone shaped brush which is larger than in the sample-sized mascara I first tried. The mascara wand brush is an excellent size in the sample version but too big at the end of the cone brush in the full-sized version.

I don’t find I gain much volume in my lashes from this mascara either, which is odd because I did gain volume with sample-sized version? I’ve become used to utilizing this waterproof mascara and it is alright. I’m not sure it’s worth $30.00 CAN. My biggest issue is that the mascara wand too easily leaves mascara all around your eyes, especially underneath them. I always have to take a Q-tip and clean up around my eye a lot. So if you are going to use this mascara, put it on before your eye shadow, as you don’t want to ruin your eye shadow with the Make Up For Ever waterproof mascara.

I’m becoming better at using the cone brush but I find I need to use another mascara on top of this mascara to get a  volumized appearance, and I have thick lashes. I went and bought a L’Oreal Butterfly Effect Mascara in waterproof. I layer this drugstore product over the Make Up For Ever mascara; the drugstore mascara cost me $8.99 CAN. It helps the Make Up For Ever waterproof mascara look a lot fuller. This a three-star mascara, you can buy better ones. I do like the concept of the brush, but I think the mascara wand cone brush is too big in the full-sized waterproof version.

2. Smash Box Oil Free Photo Finish Foundation Primer  – Pore Minimizing –

smash-box-photo-finish-foundation-primer-pore-minimizing
Smash Box Photo Finish Foundation Primer Oil Free – Pore Minimizing (1 0z.) – (www.sephora.ca) – $50.00 CAN
(www.sephora.ca) – $50.00 CAN (1 0z).

I have tried some Smash Box products and been happy. I like there eye shadow as it is highly pigmented and there lip products are wonderful as well. My favourite nude lip gloss is from Smash Box.

Smash Box was pretty much the first brand to come out with primers for skin. I remember buying their original primer eight or nine-years-ago. Their primers last a long time, even in the sample-size I have been using.

Nonetheless, I have found even if their primers say oil free or pore minimizing, they still make me break-out every single time. It doesn’t matter what primer of Smash Box’s I use. I think if you have drier skin, this might be an okay product for you to use. But personally, the only place I use it after a couple-weeks trying it, is underneath my eyes, so I don’t end up with mascara or eye shadow giving me raccoon eyes later in the day.

If you want an excellent primer that is better for your skin, pore-minimizing and great for all skin types, I recommend the Benefit POREfessional Face Primer for $50.00 for (1.5 0z), a much more reliable buy. It’s also nicer on your skin if you break-out at all. I can wear the Benefit Primer every day and I hardly ever have issues such as I have with Smash Box Primers.

3. BENEFIT cosmetics GIMME Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel (Color 01 Light) – (0.1 oz.) – (www.sephora.ca) – $30.00 CAN

benefit-gimme-brow-new
Benefit Cosmetics GIMME Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel (0.1 oz) – (www.sephora.ca) – $30.00 CAN
It’s always frightening when a makeup brand updates or changes one of your favourite products. Often, I find I don’t like the new product as much. However, I don’t believe this Benefit Cosmetic’s Gimme Brow Gel has changed much with the exception of the outside packaging.

Gimme Brow Gel is my go-to brow gel and lasts me about three-months a container. There are three shades you can choose from besides the one I bought, also medium 02 and Deep 03. It’s amazing product and worth the $30.00 CAN to get a finished looking brow which isn’t too perfect. The product doesn’t cause your eyebrows to appear extremely ‘made-up’ with this Volumizing gel. It gives your eyebrows polish and fills them in.

You can apply Gimme Brow Gel either before or after you fill in your brow with an eyebrow pencil. Unfortunately, I am not happy with the change in the Benefit eyebrow pencils as you know from Part One. But Gimme Brow Gel is a superior product with a brow pencil or without, depending on how much filling in your eyebrows need. Five stars!

4. Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Power Eye Cream – (www.sephora.ca) – (o.5 oz.) – (www.sephora.ca) – $58.00 CAN

I’ve tried a few Origins samples (for one or two days) of their face creams and have generally,

origins-plantscription-anti-aging-power-eye-cream
Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Power Eye Cream (0.5 fl oz.) – (www.sephora.ca) –  $58.00 CAN
liked them. This is the first time I had a product of theirs large enough to try over several weeks. I received a larger-size sample of this eye cream and I love it.

I’ve only started to notice my eyes are not as smooth as they used to be. The Origins Anti-Aging Power Eye Cream is gentle on the skin around and over my eyes. It doesn’t burn as some eye creams I’ve tried in the past have. Plus, I wake up feeling my eyes are less puffy and my skin is smoother in my eye area. The eye cream has chamomile and algae in it and is a natural product.

I like it a great deal as well as the fact that it lasts such a long time for a small tube. I think a full-sized product would last months and months. I would consider buying this in the future. I’m impressed by how gentle the eye cream is on sensitive eye skin. And I would agree with the Sephora claim,. after two-weeks or less, you notice a difference in the appearance of skin around your eyes. A well-made product to pick-up if you’re searching for a great eye cream.

5. Dove Dry  Spray Soothing Chamomile 48 Hour Odor Protection – Antiperspirant – (www. well.ca or in store at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada) – (1.7 g) – $8.99

dove-dry-spray-soothing-chamomile-48-hr-odour-protection
Dove Dry Spray Antiperspirant in Soothing Chamomile 48 HR Odor Protection – (www.well.ca or Your Local Drugstore) – $8.99 CAN
I received a full-sized sample of this to try in one of my last Luxebox’s. As you can tell, since I’m writing about it, I liked the product a lot. I don’t like Dove Hair Care but their body washes and deodorant type products are always wonderful. They leave your skin feeling baby soft and they work well throughout the day.

I guess typically, I apply antiperspirant about two or three times a day, depending on what I’m doing that day. But this antiperspirant by Dove lasts long so I think if you wanted you could apply it less.

The Chamomile scent is refreshing and light. Dove has other scents you can choose from. I love that it’s a spray on antiperspirant which makes it easy to apply. Also, unlike stick deodorant, the dry spray truly doesn’t end up on your clothes.

Dove includes their 1/4 moisturizing cream in this product along with Vitamins E and F to sooth underarm skin. Its a wonderful product and I’m sure at your local drugstore, it will even go on sale as it a common drugstore brand.

6. ST. TROPEZ Gradual Self- Tanning Lotion and Body Moisturizer In Light-Medium (6.7 fl.oz)  (www.beautyboutique.ca or Shoppers Drug Mart) – $38.00 CAN

I had heard great things about St. Tropez self-tanning products and I was excited to

st-tropez-gradual-tan-classic
St. Tropez Every Day Body Lotion Gradual Tan Classic (Light -Medium) (6.7 fl. oz.) – $38.00 CAN
try their products having collected about $80.00 worth of Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Reward points in the summer. I purchased two bottles  hoping the lotion would be better than Vaseline or Jergans (for instance) self-tanning lotions because its a more high-end brand.

I am truly pale skinned and fair and with this product (as with other self-tanning products) had to be careful I only applied it every three-days or I looked orange or had orange streaks all over my legs (etc). Honestly, with self-tanning lotions, you cannot avoid the streaks. I even put on regular lotion after the tanning lotion, so my skin is less orange. Especially over areas where tanning lotions seem to stick like your ankles and knees.

The moisturizing quality of the St. Tropez Gradual Self-Tan is superior to drugstore brand moisturizers. It’s an awesome lotion which helped with dry skin in the summer. I would say this product is about a four out of five stars. It works well, but it is a bit pricey for what it actually does. But, I’m happy I bought both tubes.

I looked at other St. Tropez products and they are a bit pricier. I wanted to try the foam for instance (with a glove) and it was around $60.00 for a set or for a large-size of the St. Tropez instant tanning foam alone.

So, this one is up to you, and if you want to put all that work into a tan for summer or vacation. Even if St. Tropez self-tan products are pricier, they are by far more worth it than burning your skin to get a tan and inviting skin cancer, which is the most common form of cancer (so I’ve read).

Thanks for reading! Hopefully, see you with more beauty product reviews before Christmas!

Fall Beauty Haul 2016 Part One

Happy Friday everyone. I’ve been meaning to do a beauty haul for a while for those of you who appreciate makeup and beauty products. This will be the first half of the new products I’ve tried since spring and I will do the second half either on the weekend or early next week.

In my opinion when you buy makeup, you often get what you pay for. This does not mean a $300.00 beauty cream is better than a $75.00 cream. But I do find a difference between drugstore brand makeup and skincare and higher-end beauty products one might find at Sephora or in a department store. Sephora makeup for instance, is often better quality depending on the brand and ingredients. The makeup lasts longer, works better, and depending on the product, can save you money in the long run.

However, there are always cheaper products which break the rules. And drugstore makeup products are improving in quality and have improved a great deal in quality since I first used them as a teenager around eighteen-years-ago. I do have a bit of variety in price point for products I’ve been trying lately.

  1. Kat Von D – Shade + Light Contour Quad – In Plum – Matte Finish – (www.sephora.ca)$34.00 CAN (three additional colour pallets to choose from).
fall-beauty-haul-kat-von-d-eyeshadow
Kat Von D Eye Shadow Quad In Plum (www.sephora.ca)

I was searching on Sephora one day, for that perfect palette to create a pink and purple eye. I was concerned mainly, that the palette have a light purple-pink colour.

It’s a colour which appears great on women with blond hair and winter skin colouring. I also wanted the pink to be in a palette because individual eyes shadows alone can cost $25 dollars and up so I feel if you’re going to use even some of the other colours in a pallet, it’s usually a better deal to buy a palette.

I ended up choosing an eye shadow quad in plum by Kat Von D. Outside of her foundation, I have never tried products from her brand before. I know she is an extremely artistic woman with many beautiful tattoos and had her own tattoo show and I’m pleased with her makeup brand so far.

The pigment of each eye shadow colour in the Plum quad is excellent and there is not a lot of fall-out when you’re applying the eyeshadow to your eyelids and eye area. I also liked how the colour you are supposed to apply all over your eyelid and above, is bigger than the other eye shadows. This makes sense because you use more of that colour than any other colour.

My only problem is this bigger-sized eye shadow in the plum palette is not a good colour for me. While the other colours are more wintry colours, this shade is a fall colour and too orange for my complexion. It didn’t appear that way on the Sephora website — this is a reason its sometimes good to see the products you are purchasing in store.

Nonetheless, this didn’t bother me because all the other eyeshadow colours in the quad are colours I will use and have used a lot. I put a different lighter colour underneath which is more of a cool light-brown.

The idea of a contouring palette is that having a darker crease area and highlighting in certain places on your eye, will make your eyes pop and be a defining feature on your face. For the most part, I’m impressed with this eye shadow quad and would be willing to try other Kat Von D products in the future as they are also reasonably priced.

2. Joe Fresh Lip Gloss – In Fresh Glass – (Shoppers Drug Mart or Superstore) – $8.00 CAN aprox.

beauty-haul-fall-2016-joe-fresh-lip-gloss
Joe Fresh Lip Gloss in Fresh Glass – Shoppers Drug Mart or Superstore (in store).

So in Canada, are main drugstore is Shoppers Drug Mart. They carry drugstore brands as well as high-end makeup. They were bought out by Superstore a grocery store chain. This hasn`t changed anything except that brands from Superstore, are now appearing in Shoppers Drug Mart such as Joe Fresh and President’s Choice.

My local Shoppers isn’t great in terms of their variety of beauty products because it’s in a poorer neighbourhood and people tend to steal. They did, however, start carrying Joe Fresh Make Up which is inexpensive and from the women I`ve talked to,  decent makeup.

You can always use a lippy so I decided to choose a Joe Fresh lip gloss from Shoppers Drug Mart in a darker rose-pink tube. I thought the gloss would be coloured but it’s clear. In fact, whatever name or colour the tube of lip gloss was, I found they were all the same clear colour called Fresh Glass. I think it’s deceptive to name each tube a different colour and then only have clear lip gloss.

Another weird thing about the Joe Fresh makeup line is it cannot be bought online. Shoppers Drug Mart does feature the products on their website, but you have to go in store to Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada or Superstore to buy Joe Fresh makeup.

Over all, I`m pleased with this Joe Fresh lip gloss. It’s extremely moisturizing and not sticky at all. It stays on your lips a long time. I`m disappointed I couldn’t buy a coloured lip gloss but for around $8.00 CAN, I`m not complaining. It was a great purchase.

3. Urban Decay All Nighter Liquid Foundation – Waterproof and Longwear – Full Coverage – Matte Finish – Oil Free – Shade 0.5 (fair porcelain) – (www.sephora.ca or http://www.beautyboutique.ca) – $49.00

urban-decay-all-nighter-waterproof-longwear-liquid-foundation
Urban Decay All Nighter Waterproof Longwear Liquid Foundation – Full Coverage – Matte Finish – Oil Free (www.sephora.ca or http://www.beautyboutique.ca)

I lucked out finding this foundation. I loved my Make Up Forever Matte Foundation but I kept running out every month and a half. It’s not a bad lifespan for a foundation for me but the All Nighter Foundation by Urban Decay lasts much longer for around the same price.

All Nighter is a brand new liquid foundation from Urban Decay and Shoppers Drug Mart also carries it in store or online at http://www.beautyboutique.com. What’s even better about this foundation then the Make Up Forever Matte Foundation (which I would still use) is that my shade o.5 is a bit lighter than the my Make Up Forever shade and it blends into my fair skin better.

As I’ve mentioned before, it’s difficult to find foundation when you’ve such pale skin but still need some coverage. Sometimes, you have to use the lightest foundation shade you can find and later upon wearing it in daylight find, it isn’t light enough or appears too orange for pale skin. For winter, this is a better foundation in for me, but I might go a shade up for in summer time.

All Nighter also lasts even longer than the Make Up Forever Matte Foundation — a full 24 hours. Both foundations are waterproof and have a matte finish so on that account, their equal. As well, neither foundation since they are matte and oil free, are better for oilier skin types and don’t make me break-out. The Urban Decay foundation sure does last longer by far.

Literally, two dots of foundation from the pump on the back of my hand and I dab the foundation over my entire face and into my neck and blend with my foundation brush. The All Nighter foundation blends even better than its Make Up Forever counterpart and I need to use so little of it. I have to be careful I don’t make the dots of foundation on my hand too big or I will put too much of the Urban Decay foundation on my face. I totally recommend this foundation, it’s so worth it and there are twenty-four foundation shades to pick from.

The only issues I see with this foundation are if you aren’t looking for full coverage foundation, this isn’t the foundation for you. Also, if your skin is dry you probably want to choose a creamier foundation, something that is has more moisture in it. You could apply more moisturizer under this foundation but I do think it is better for women with oilier or combination skin types.

4. Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil in Blonde or Cool Taupe – (www.sephora.ca) – $30.00 CAN

Since I started to define my brows, I have used the Benefit Brow pencil which cost

anastasis-beverly-hills-perfect-brow-pencil
Anastasia Beverly Hills Perfect Brow Pencil In Blond (www.sephora.ca)

$30.00 CAN, the same amount as the Anastasia Brow Pencil. The brow pencil shade I used was pretty much the same colour as well. However, Benefit decided to change their brow pencils and make them thinner in both options they carry. This isn’t good for me as the Benefit brow pencils are soft and in a thinner pencil, I would use it too quickly.

The lady who helped me at Sephora said Anastasia was one of the first makeup artists to care about brow appearance, beyond filling them in a bit if you had sparse brows.

While the Benefit pencil looked the same as the Anastasia brow pencil it was a much softer pencil and I used it within about two-months. I didn’t like how soft the Benefit brow pencil was at first but I grew used to it because a softer pencil meant you didn’t have to use as much product.

Since I have switched to the Anastasia brow pencil, I find it much harder than Benefit’s discontinued brow pencil. It may mean it will last longer than the Benefit brow pencil did but, on the other hand, I find I use the Anastasia brow pencil differently. I use it to fill in my brows and trace around my brows. Since the pencil is harder, it does not spread over my brow as easily as the Benefit brow pencil did.

I do need to fill in my brow to get a fuller appearing brow with the Anastasia brow pencil and then blend it with the spooly on the end. With the Benefit brow pencil I traced around my brow and blended it, no need to fill in my brow because the pencil spread easily.

I’m happy with the Anastasia Perfect Brown Pencil and becoming used to working with a harder brow pencil.  I’ll let you know if this one lasts longer than two-months. I’m positive so far, it will last longer than two-months which is always easier on the budget. The Anastasia brow pencil comes in eight varied brow shades.

5. NYX Matte Finish Long Lasting Setting Spray – MSS01 – (www.ulta.com and Shoppers Drug Mart in store) – $10.99 CAN or $8.99 on sale ($7.99 US)

nyx-cosmetics-matte-finish-makeup-setting-spray
NYX Matte Finish, Long Lasting MakeUp Setting Spray (www.ulta.com and Shoppers Drug Mart in store)

This is possibly my best purchased cheap product. I’ve heard good things about the NYX makeup brand even though it is a cheaper drugstore brand. I had tried an Urban Decay setting spray earlier in the year which was about $17.00 CAN in Sephora for a small-sized bottle (1 oz.). Like he NYX Matte Finish Spray, it was oil free and set my makeup so it did’t run or come off on a pillow case (much) if I napped. Both sprays also never let my makeup melt in the day. For most occasions, using a finishing spray on my makeup means I do not need to wear a primer underneath.

A couple of other beauty bloggers I recall reading, raved about the NYX Setting Spray which is available in both Matte and Dewy finishes. As I have combination oily skin, I chose the Matte finish. Some girls who were looking at the spray in store, expressed concerns about it causing them to break-out more.

I did find I had to let my skin become used to wearing the NYX setting spray. I broke-out a tiny bit but not a lot. Now I don’t break-out wearing it at all. I bought the spray at Shoppers Drug Mart on sale for $8.99. I have had it for over two-months and there is still setting spray left in the bottle which is 2.02 oz and a much better deal than buying a small Urban Decay Setting Spray for $17.00. I have used the NYX Setting Spray daily as I did the Urban Decay one.

Urban Decay originally came out with a makeup setting spray. They have several kinds you can choose from in a larger bottle that is $38.00 Can (4 oz) at Sephora or Shoppers Drug Mart (www.beautyboutique.ca).

The smaller version they offer only lasts one month (1 oz). I would like to test to see if  the $38.00 (4 oz) Urban Decay Makeup Setting Spray which is almost twice the size of the NYX spray (2.02 oz), might be a better option if it lasts double the amount of time. It would need to last at least four or five-months.When I have some Optimum points from Shoppers Drug Mart, I might try the bigger version of the Urban Decay Setting Spray in Oil Free.

For now, I’m extremely satisfied with the NYX Matte Setting Spray for Makeup. If I can buy it on sale for $8.99 CAN, I think it’s similar or the same product as the Urban Decay sprays for a better value or less money spent at once. Has anyone tried both products and has an opinion on whether they like the NYX or Urban Decay Spray better and why?

That’s it for today’s Fall Beauty Haul. I’ll be back with a Part Two later.

March 2016 Makeup Beauty Haul

Hey, I have some new makeup products (new to me) to share with you today for an early March 2016 Makeup Beauty Haul. I hope you enjoy the piece and maybe even find you take a look at some of these products when you’re at the Drugstore/Sephora/ or shopping for makeup online. The first couple products I have to share with you are from a brand called Smashbox.

March-Smash Box Under Eye Primer
Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer (www.sephora.ca)

1. Smashbox Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer – (www.sephora.ca) – $32.00 Canadian.

I have found Smashbox products to be ‘touch and go’ for me. Smashbox was one of the first makeup brands to come out with a face primer to make your make up last longer. A facial primer is vital if you are a woman whose makeup melts off all the time by 5:00 pm or you want your makeup to last all night long. If you are trying to smooth out imperfections on your face (such as pores and blemishes) before putting onfoundation or BB Cream, face primer is also useful. Although, Smashbox primers feel nice on my skin, I hated wearing the original Smashbox face primer  more than a day because my skin would break out due to the oiliness of the face primer. Despite the fact the makeup counter lady who recommended it to me, said it would help makeup stop melting off my then oiler skin. Smashbox has improved on their original face primer. You can find Photo Finish primer in Primer Light, Colour Correcting Foundation Primer, Hydrating Foundation Primer,  More than Primer Blemish Control, and Oil Free Foundation Primer Pore Minimizer. I have tried most of them in a samples kit except the last one which would probably be the best one for my skin type. Nonetheless, I wasn’t impressed with any of the other face primers in this brand. Most of them cost around $50.00 in their biggest size. As a side note, I much prefer a primer that I use from Benefit. I use POREfessional face primer. It smooths out and fills in your face creating an ideal base for makeup and is light enough that it doesn’t make a person with oily or combination skin break out, even in the heat of Las Vegas. Even though I’m not a fan of Smashbox’s face primers, I have found that the Hydrating Under Eye Primer by Smashbox, works wonders.

Photo Finish Hydrating Under Eye Primer is amazing. I love this product because it is a light product you apply under your eyes and it hydrates that delicate skin, and it also acts as a fantastic under eye primer. I find this product useful because as I’ve complained before, my mascara, eyeliner, eyeshadow –you name it — comes off my eyes, even when I wear waterproof eye makeup, because the skin around my eyes is oily. This Smashbox under eye primer stops these other products I’m wearing on my eyes from travelling all over the place under my eyes so I don’t look a raccoon by the end of the day. As well, the concealer I apply under my eyes stays put when I use this primer underneath. My dark circles stayed covered so I’m a happy woman.

This under eye primer by Smashbox  I like and would recommend it to you if you want an eye-cream and under eye-primer in one tube to keep your eye makeup and concealer in place day or night. A bit of this product goes a long way. I have a tiny 0.17 fl. oz. tube of it and it has lasted me longer than a year and I use it every morning.

2.Smashbox Full Exposure Waterproof Mascara – (www.beautyboutique.ca) -$25.00 Canadian.

I decided to try Smashbox Full Exposure Waterproof Mascara on a whim. I had to spend a

March- Smashbox Full Exposure Waterproof Mascara
Smashbox Full Exposure Waterproof Mascara (www.beautyboutique.ca)

certain amount of money to use my Optimum Points over Christmas and I wanted to use them instead of paying cash, so I quickly chose this mascara. I’m always on the eternal search for the best waterproof volumizing mascara. Although, I an fond of the Dior Black Out Mascara I was using before, I disliked how it smudged around my eye area. The colour was vivid  black  which I adored. Smashbox’s Full Exposure Waterproof Mascara is nothing special, it is comparable to many mascara’s in the $25 to $35.00 price range. I better buy would be a Clinique Volumizing mascara which is a few dollars cheaper and still waterproof. Mascara ends up around my eye area a bit, with this mascara but I am easily able to clean it up with a Q-tip. I use it over a non-waterproof mascara that I love called Hello Lashes by IT cosmetics. It has the perfect mascara want to reach all your tiny lashes and it is a 5 in 1, clinically proven mascara that has made my eyelashes licker. To me, the Full Exposure mascara is merely a second coat of mascara that works so the mascara I wear underneath, will stay on my lashes and become waterproof.

Additionally, I have tried this Smashbox mascara alone and it’s not bad but not great either. My lashes look decent, longer, volumized, and the brush is nice and thick. But I’m not so thrilled about Full Exposurr mascara. The product didn’t capture me. The $9.00 L’Oreal mascara I use sometimes, would do the job just as well to make my favourite IT cosmetics mascara waterproof, and as mascara on it’s own.  If you purchase Full Exposure, you won’t hate it, but I don’t think you’d love it either because it’s not worth $25.00. Luckily, I paid in Optimum points.  I couldn’t find this mascara on the Sephora website. I only found the same kind in the non-waterproof product. You will have to look at Ulta in the states if you still want to truth is mascara after my so-so review of it.

3.Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black – (www.beautyboutique.ca) – $29.00 Canadian

March - Stila Stay All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner
Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner, Intense Black (www.beautyboutique.ca)

This waterproof eyeliner by Stila was also an Optimum points purchase made this month at Shoppers Drug Mart. I was so disappointed because Lancôme changed their Liquid Artliner formula and I have been using it for six-faithful-years. The  Artliner product Lancome made to replace my old favourite with is see-through, the brush doesn’t pick any sign of black liner and the colour I picked was noir. Also, the new Artliner took forever to dry on my lash line.

I went into Shopper’s Drug Mart searching for a new eyeliner. I was looking at some Quo liquid liners trying decide if I wanted a thicker or thinner eyeliner line, when the lady at the makeup counter said: “Here, try the Stila Black Liquid Eyeliner, it’s a customer favourite.” I was not going to buy another Stila liner because I tried Stila’s old Liquid liner that was in the form of a felt tip liquid liner and I wasn’t happy. The black liner wasn’t black enough and the liquid inside the tube wasn’t liquidy enough for a liquid eyeliner to form a line at the lash line well. The makeup lady showed me on my hand the boldness of this black liner and how much better it worked than Stila’s first eyeliner offering. She was one-hundred-percent -right. The new Stila All Day Waterproof Liquid Eyeliner in Intense Black is amazing. I can make a thick or a thin line with the felt tip. The liner stays on and doesn’t smudge off, but at the same time it is easy enough to make a correction with a little bit of concealer on a Q-tip, to straighten your line or make it thinner for example. I’m glad I used my points on this product, it is super. And the makeup lady at Shoppers Drug Mart said the liquid liner would last around five or six-months which is longer than my old liner lasted me and at a cheaper price point. Beauty Boutique has about seven colours online of Stila waterproof liquid liners, including black. I’m not sure if the other colours are as vibrant, but I’d be willing to try them based on my experience with the Intense Black liner.

3. Benefit Longwear Powder Shadow in Call My Bluff – (www.beautyboutique.ca) – ($26.00)

I bought this colour of shadow around a year and a half ago for a particular reason. Every

March -Benefit Longwear Powder Shadow in Call My Bluff
Benefit Longwear Powder Shadow in Call my Bluff (www.beautyboutique.ca)

once and awhile, I purchase an eyeshadow pallete. I like to use browns a great deal because they causr blue eyes to pop. The problem is with whatever brand of palette I buy, it would only have one light-skin coloured eye shadow in the palette a woman could use as a base or highlighter colour (depending on your skin tone).

I only use darker colours (especially browns) to darken my crease, make my lid a bit darker, and/or on a night out, when I might dip into blackish brown or dark-purplish shadows for some depth and/or s smokey eye.

My point is, there is never enough base colour when you wear brown eyeshadows ot buy brown eye shadow palettes. This Call my Bluff colour is the perfect colour to use when you have gone through that one light colour in the palette you used for a base colour or highlight. Benefit eyeshadow has excellent pigment. The eyeshadow lasts a long time, and you will get your money’s worth because you can use this shadow with any palettes you purchase that no longer have that light -skin coloured hue of eye shadow — whether the palette contains, more Browns, purples, or pinks which  appear to be in this Spring. There are also other colours available in Thr Long Wear Shadow, if you prefer individual eye shadows to palettes for a great eye shadow look. Benefit has about ten colours available in this eye shadow line on the Beauty Boutique website.

4. Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick in Pink Pout 002 Matte and in Silver City Pink 405 Pearle – (www.ulta.com) – $7.99 US

Revlon - Silver City Pink
Revlon Super Lustrous Lipstick – Silver City Pink (405) Pearl (www.ulta.com)

I also bought these lipsticks with Optimum points at Shopper’s Drug Mart after Christmas. I was looking for some everyday lipstick colours, near my natural lip colour that didn’t come off easily. I thought originally that higher-end makeup brands such as NARS or Two Faced would meet the requirement: that the lipstick needs to stay on your lips as long as possible, but even though I love the colours I bought from those two brands they hardly stay on my lips more than a couple of hours. I knew Revlon had good lipstick because I used their lipstick in high school. I have never been big into lipstick, until a bit lately. I think I have maybe five or six all together but these two shades from Revlon are beautiful and they stay on your lips without wearing off quickly. Since my lips have a blue undertone, the colour Pink-Pout is almost exactly the same as my lip colour it is only matte and a bit more purply. It is my favourite shade because it goes with everything.

March - Revlon PInk Pout

The second colour I picked up was Silver City Pink and it is a lighter pink and is shimmery with a Pearl finish. It is great lipstick for in the day and also when I want a lip that is pink but a bit more glitzy. So far I have found the best lipstick is cheap. I don’t know about Dior or Chanel lipstick. One day, I might try one of their lipsticks Maybe it stays on even better, but I’m not huge into lipsticks in makeup. I would prefer to spend more money on other products which are worth buying to make your skin, healthy, and young looking. Plus, I hate having to reapply lipstick all the time. So look at Ulta or in your local drugstore for Revlon Super Lustrous Lipsticks.

Thanks for taking the time to read about these products I’ve tried. Hopefully, you’ll take a look at them if not purchase one or two of them yourself next time you need a few beauty items.

Make Up Haul: New Year January 2016

Hi everyone. If you are interested in beauty products and reviews on them, today is a good day to be reading my blog. I had a few gift cards and points to use over the holidays after buying presents and building up points from Fall. I hope you like my beauty haul for the current time.

NARS Blush color Desire
http://www.sephora.ca NARS Blush: Desire
1. NAR’S Blush – (www.sephora.ca ) -$37.00 – I am a huge fan of NARS’ blushes. They are on the more expensive side for a blush but the pigment is always fantastic and a blush compact lasts a long time. I was looking for the colour ‘Gaiety’ in Sephora when I bought my blush and I couldn’t find it. I settled for the colour ‘Desire.’ ‘Desire’ is a wonderful bright almost neon pink colour. I had to be careful when I picked up the colour with Sephora blush brush. At first, I swept too much pigment up. When I applied the blush to my face the bright pink made me look like a saloon girl from bygone days. I only have to have my blush brush barely graze ‘Desire’ and I pick up enough colour pigment for one cheek. I don’t find this happens with every NARS’ blush colour I have as compared to other blush brands. You only have to be careful with NARS’ blush colour ‘Desire’ as far as I know. This NARS blush line is the same blush line which has the wonderful ‘Orgasm’ color which everyone loves because it looks nice on most skin tones.

If you’re looking for a cheaper blush which still has excellent pigment, I would recommend blush by Tarte. I have a few Tarte blushes and the pigment is superb. Plus, Tarte is a natural makeup made from Amazonian Clay; however, NARS has beautiful colours you can’t find anywhere else, and I think their pigment rivals most blushes I have tried. Years after I first bought a small NARS palette, I’m still scraping the lasts bit of the two blush colours remaining out of the container.

2. Benefit Hoola Bronzer – (www.sephora.ca) – $36.00 – I bought this wonderful face palette

Benefit Hoola Bronzer
http://www.sephora.ca -Benefit Hoola Bronzer
from Tarte this summer which had a Bronzer, Highlighter, and Blush. Unfortunately, I used the palett fast especially since the Highlighter and Blush were half the size of the Bronzer. It was a great palette for travelling in the summer because I had all my contouring colours together. The Bronzer by Tarte is awesome because it isn’t overwhelming on pale skin; it is a bit orangey; however, I didn’t want to buy the whole palette again because I went through the highlighter and blush so fast. I am scraping the last bits of the Bronzer out each time I contour my face.

I asked a fantastic beauty blogger named Victoria Styles to recommend a Bronzer I could use as a darker contour colour on my  light skin. Victoria’s blog is called Living Disrobed. She recommended’ Hoola’ by Benefit.

I have been extremely happy with this Bronzer as a darker contouring color. The pigment is great and who doesn’t love Benefit, they make great makeup with fun packaging. I think the Bronzer colour suits me a little better then the Tarte Bronzer as much as I liked it, because the Benefit Bronzer colour is cooler. I use only a little of it on my hairline, beneath my cheek bones, and to contour around the edge of my face. Contouring is great when you want to be wearing more makeup and make your face appear thinner for certain occasions. I adore a highlighter I have been using from Two Faced called ‘Candle Light.’ This Benefit Bronzer was exactly what I needed. I recommend the product and thank you to Victoria for helping me choose it.

Lancome Artliner 24Hour
http://www.sephora.ca Lancome Artliner 24Hour (NEW)
3. Lancôme Artliner 24Hour – (www.sephora.ca)- $38.00 – When I went to choose my favourite liquid eyeliner by Lancôme, I was a bit dismayed because they did not have my regular black liquid eyeliner at Sephora. The difference between the new Lancôme eyeliner and the old one I’ve been using is the old liquid liner was only ‘Artliner’ and not ‘Artliner 24 hour’ which is waterproof. There’s a difference and I didn’t realize it. The girl who was helping me at Sephora said Lancôme had come out with a newer liquid eyeliner. It was supposed to be a liquid liner with a better foam tipped brush.

It’s hard to convince me the new liquid liner is better because I have used the original ‘Artliner’ in black\Noir for five or six years. But they are not making the original liner anymore.

I am not impressed with this eyeliner. I kept getting a thicker line then I wanted and I couldn’t get the little flick I was always so able to artfully achieve with the original liner. But I have gotten used to ’24hour Artliner’ and the brush is actually more precise. You only need to hold it so the point is against your lashline, not the side of the brush as with the original Artliner liquid eyeliner. You also need ample time for this eyeliner to dry as in you have to wait five minutes so your eyeliner doesn’t end up all over your eye areas on your face.

What I also do not like about the ’24hour’ liner is the colour on your lash line is not opaque. It’s not black and it should be. It looks like a see-through greyish colour and the eyeliner doesn’t apply well over eyeshadow. The tube is smaller as well. I’m not sure if it means it won’t last me for four months as the original ‘Artliner’ did. The tube of the original ‘Artliner’ could only seem bigger then the new tube but not actually be bigger.

I should mention, I have altered this part of this blog since I published this post. I was sick of this eyeliner product and that it didn’t do it’s job. I was too late to return it to Shopper’s Drug Mart where I purchased it but I contacted http://www.lancome.ca by email and they are issuing me a cheque in the mail for refund. Great service Lancome, my faith in your products is restored. Please go back to your old liquid Artliner.

4. It Works Hello Lashes 5 in 1 Clinically Proven Mascara – (www.ulta.com) – $24.00 (US) – I

It works 5 in 1 mascara real

wasn’t sure where to find this mascara in Canada. I’m sure you can buy it somewhere since I received it in Luxebox which is a Canadian beauty box. But even though our dollar is low, if you love this mascara, Canadians can order from Ulta. This five in one mascara is awesome. I don’t often say this about mascaras. I have gone through many and the fact this mascara is not a waterproof mascara, speaks to how good the product is. I apply ‘Hello Lashes’ first, and then I apply a waterproof mascara over top and the problem of my mascara travelling onto my oily eye areas is solved. You might want to check under your eyes in the day though, in case some of the mascara has made it under your eyes. I have had success with the Mascara staying on my lower eyelashes but not perfect.

What’s so special about this five in one mascara I received? Well the brush is a fantastic design. There is a little ball of a brush on the end of the mascara wand over top a regular mascara brush.  This brush is so helpful for putting mascara on every single tiny eyelash I have. Often, we forget about the lashes at the corner of our eyes, especially if your lashes are blond. This product is clinically proven to increase the length and volume of your lashes. It is a natural formula and contains ingredients which are good for your lashes and a lash enhancing serum. The Ulta website says it was developed with help from leading plastic surgeons. I find this mascara to be superb. My lashes are healthier and have increased in volume, length, and thickness since I started using the mascara. The brush really does get every lash. It surprises me it would work so well and so fast. But it does.

Soap and Glory Sugar Crush Body Wash
http://www.beautyboutique.ca Soap and Glory: Sugar Crush
Soap and Glory: Sugar Crush Body Wash – (www.beautyboutique.ca) – $16.00 –  I bought this product with Shopper’s Optimum points because I love the body butter I bought from Soap and Glory at Shoppers Drug Mart. Beauty Boutique is their newly launched online website. I wanted to try out some of Soap and Glory’s other products so one of them I am trying is this body wash which is more of a scrub. I use it a few times a week with another Soap and Glory body wash which is only a body wash. I don’t need to exfoliate my skin everyday. I find it becomes a little dry if I do that in Winter. But this body wash scrub smells great and sugar is a fantastic natural body scrub. Also, the product doesn’t cost too much. So, I might have to consider replacing my Lush ‘Sea Salt body scrub.’ If only for the reason, this product is more cost effective and lasts longer; not to mention the fragrance.

Soap and Glory: Clean on Me – (www.beautyboutique.ca ) – $14.00 – Generally, I like a

Soap and Glory - Clean on Me

creamy body wash such as this ‘Clean on Me,’ to moisturize my skin in Winter. This is great because it moisturizes your skin well and smells good too. I use it when I am not using the body wash scrub. It contains mandarin peals, jasmine, and a list of other natural ingredients. This is probably, why I like it so much. Check out Soap and Glory products at your local drugstore you will be happy to discover them.

If you are buying at Shoppers Drug Mart make sure to use your Optimum Card or download their Optimum card application so you can download coupons for extra Optimum points each time you make a purchase from Shoppers. You can also get Optimum points off of Beauty Boutique online and Murale in store and online.

Sometimes when you need a lot of stuff from Shoppers you can receive ten thousand or eighteen thousand points for spending forty, fifty, seventy five, or a hundred dollars. They also have weekends where you can receive twenty times the Optimum points or the points you do have on your Optimum card or Optimum card application, are worth more. I buy stuff at Shoppers Drug Mart all the time so, during the entire Christmas season I was able to redeem points once for $60.00 and once this last time for $85.00. Your Optimum points build quickly so it is worth it to shop at Shoppers Drug Mart for makeup both more luxury brands and inexpensive brands such as Maybelline or L’Oreal.
