We leave at dawn, the horses saddled and well rested. The gleaming morning light shines upon us and I feel blissful, as if there’s certain hope that wherever we end up it’s going to be providential; it’ll be a land with milk and honey. There has to be a divine reason we were forced to leave our home, why our friends and neighbors burned it to the ground, and why we must rebuild are life in obscurity; God would not dessert us now amidst the endless wilderness, would He?

I’m a story, my life overarching,

Tale that tells of my unique journey.

Places I’ve travelled, things I’ve seen,

Until the day comes and these —

Memories imprint,

Silt, dust, and smoke.

Characters lost,

Not even,

To be,

Known.

—–

Gone,

Can’t be!

Actions done,

Wild nights, regret;

My authentic talents,

And a muse who knows,

Histories repeated —

Memories of pen and ink.

Thoughts hidden, lock and key, they close.

Masking the truth of such characters,

Building worlds through words, disconnected.

——-

Sly as a fox, I’ve learned fruitful ways.

These days go by, can’t halt the clock’s tick,

Don’t forget time’s ever so short.

Juices dribbling down small chins,

Organic pears sweet with —

Raspberries too.

Spiritually,
Ripe fruit ate,

Becomes soul —

Food that —

Heals.

—–

Just,

As Tales,

Brilliant and —

Warm soothe the heart,

But reality —

Doldrums work to dull minds.

An anasethic addictive,

Sickness in body, soul, and heart.

Too much berries here for birds who —

Wobble discordently drunk, stagnant.

—-

Become a person who finds windows when,

All doors are shut, locked up tightly.

Find your dreams, your goals define them,

Persevere, strive in —

Life as it happens; too —

Fast for my liking!

Absorb moments,

Choose to,

Live.

——-

No,

Matter,

That we will,

Be forgotten,

As stories or part,

Of nastolgies devised.

Obscurity as time —

Moves as the rabbit with his —

Pocket watch; we’re perpetually late;

Wherever we end; hope it’s paradise.

——

One where we dwell on stories of truth,

Body’s age, decay; but our gifts stay.

Forever they are our tasks.

Someday we each face ends.

As Dylan desperate wrote,

Of the light’s dying,

Don’t fear for it; light’s

Forever,

Guiding

Home.

Day 1 – NaPoWriMo/A to Z Challenge: Poem – Kay Ryan – “The Big Bad Wolf” #amwriting #napowrimo #poetry #quotes #AtoZchallenge #2017

Today’s National Poetry Writing Challenge is to write a poem in the style of a famous American poet named Kay Ryan. She writes poetry with “short, tight lines, rhymes interwoven throughout, maybe an animal or two, and, if you can manage to stuff it in, a sharp little philosophical conclusion,” and today’s prompt is to write a poem like her. See an example of her poetry in the above link.

Also here is my A to Z Challenge at the very last minute yes, I know. A book quote that matches the poem everyday according to the author’s name alphabetically.

You are the stories and incidents that you never tell to anyone. You are the thoughts that you get while standing under the shower. You are those memories that won’t lets you sleep at night peacefully. You are those words that you will never say while speaking with someone. You are those scars that you always hide from everyone. You are those little secrets that you will never let the world know. You are everything that you hide under the identity that you call the real you.”― Akshay Vasu

The crux of,

The problems,

The issues,

Tearful tissues;

The wishes,

Dead fishes,

Expecting to —

Much; life is —

A state of flux,

Waiting to,

Push you,

Into the great,

Unknown; where we’re

Gliding no longer.

Hiding behind,

Pictures of,

Parrots so,

Bright we,

Blend in.

Obscurity,

Fashions a —

Camaflouge.

No passion,

Distracted by,

Parrots squawking.

Beyond that,

We’re talking.

They are dead;

Birds who were,

Mimicking,

What we’re trying,

To forget.

Such as wolves,

Who are hidden,

Beneath a sheep’s

Grating wool;

Knowing first,

The value of,

Wool and —

The silence,

Of peace,

Seeping into,

Weakened bones;

Where we don’t

Have to be sheep,

Are tranquil as

The big bad,

Wolf puffing.

Ring the bells ring them, sound organ pipes too,

Atlantis sinks to obscurity

Earth trembles, calls with a tune sung,

Ring the bells; last time you’ll hear them out loud.

Artistic endeavour, artisan’s craft,

Carved pipes; hear the organ it booms last.

Earthquakes, rocks tumble, falling into time.

A void in the earth barely felt until now.

Modern humans are obsessed by her,

A lost city never found; for it’s day —

Full of vision, construction, art, thought.

City that felt it was the greatest,

The gods thought otherwise; earth swallowed,

City Atlantis whole, taking everyone.

Down to earth’s depths, in it’s belly kept,

Here lies Atlantis hidden, there wasn’t —

Much difference between ‘us’ now and them.

Or hundreds of cities –past, present;

Civilization thousands of years old,

It isn’t that the the ocean and land,

Just ended a city; it’s the people

Inside who forget about decency.

Treating each other terribly and —

No thought for tomorrow, hearts so,

Cold, stone rigid; they sink themselves down,

Into the water until they’re nothing

Nothing but a dream, not even memory,

Just something modern people wonder of,

Forgetting lessons as Atlantis did.

Leonard was absorbed by the red hues of the wide Arizona desert. It was hot outside in the late spring, the cascading layers of rock enthralling and the green shrubs and cacti complementing the red cliffs. Here Leonard could be alone with his thoughts, far from the problems of his life.

No one was chasing him in the desert. No one was telling him he wasn’t allowed to set fire to buildings. No one was insisting Leonard couldn’t punch a guy in the face and start fighting because Leonard didn’t like how the guy was looking at him, or that the guy had a hot girlfriend which Leonard did not. In the desert, no one knew how much money he’d stashed away in offshore accounts from the company where he’d been an accountant with a falsified identity, these past two-years.

Out here in the desert, there was serenity and quiet. Leonard would in an hour, catch a private plane and reclaim his offshore funds. But he wasn’t counting on the rattle snake who bit his leg when he stood up and stepped on the snake accidentally.

The snake’s poisonus venom made Leonard numb in minutes. Quickly he was fading into obscurity and death; the bright red Arizona desert claiming him for all his wrongs. How curious a snake would kill a snake

Poem: Haikus – ” Two Can Keep A Secret, If One of Us Is Dead.”

Just playing around in this poetry piece. I started from the beginning, watching Pretty Little Liars on Netflix. What first struck me on the second episode, was the theme song by The Pierces. It had such beautiful poetry and was catchy, so I had to play with it in my writing.

“Secrets” – The Pierces (Music Video)

“Got a secret
Can you keep it?
Swear this one you’ll save
Better lock it in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you then I know you won’t tell what I said
‘Cause two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.”

The Pierces – “Secrets”

Beneath covert layers,

Hidden, you devise, secrets.

Ones you shouldn’t tell.

If your secrets are deadly,

Your playing games with our lives,

Let your sweet lies lay.

The business of obscurity,

Mask those secrets, don’t tell me,

Hidden truths veiled well.

“Got a secret
Can you keep it?
Swear this one you’ll save
Better lock it in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you then I know you won’t tell what I said
‘Cause two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.”

Hands over my ears, disappear,

Your corrupt ideals, hurt us all.

Close your mouth, don’t talk.

Duck-tape your lips closed tight,

Reveal nothing, sinister girl,

Secrets for the grave.

Don’t enlighten with dishonesty,

Don’t share what you said you’d keep,

Telling truths ends dead.

“Got a secret
Can you keep it?
Swear this one you’ll save
Better lock it in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you then I know you won’t tell what I said
‘Cause two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.”

Your lips move, I hear nothing,

I’m bent on staying out this time,

Your secrets hurt, kill.

A burden you say you must,

Share with me, release venom,

Keep your poison locked.

I’ve closed my door; shut you out,

I have my own secrets but,

Those I never tell.

“Got a secret
Can you keep it?
Swear this one you’ll save
Better lock it in your pocket
Taking this one to the grave
If I show you then I know you won’t tell what I said
‘Cause two can keep a secret if one of them is dead.”
