(Her View)

Tonight’s the night he’s meeting me here later

Passions ignited, we’ve fires, need sating

All the desires of our time together, at last met

I’ll be shaking, moaning, chasing the stars

Caught in the moment, we’ll shatter as glass

Wrapped in your strong arms, I’ll have a blast.

Waiting for tonight, excitement beaming

When you and I are lovers holding,  fast.

——

Preening, applying makeup and shaking

Preparing for you, our first time creating.

Ensuring our night’s perfect; it’ll end complete.

Skin grazingcaressing, nothing sub-par

Lovers busy enjoying repast

Perfect lingerie, beneath a gown fast

Becoming a favourite; it’s perfect and tight

Rip it off, no need to be so classy

——

Waiting for tonight, our love embracing,

Perfection between us, this night for our sake.

I’ve planned it exactly, we’ll not overstep

Each moments vital, at the finale beseech.

Give into our lust, marvel in love far —

Better than any you’ve ever had; here we’ll last,

Until mornings stunning rays of light

I wait for him, he’s mine; trembling, my hands clasp.

——

(His View)

Tonight it came, the nightmare couldn’t wait

She’s obssessed, unstable, any day she’ll break.

Better to stop, was never invested, not set

On staying with her; she’s a whale beached.

Though thin like a beanpole, not nice at all

Loathsome personality, running fast —

Driving passed; her obsession frightening

I was ‘nice’ once or twice, now there’s an impasse.

——

Need freedom, her annoying voice I hate,

Can life be normal again? Not Hell made?

Can I touch the one I love, and not regret

Bringing him into drama; twice I cheated,

Boyfriend enraged; a dumb girl caused my fall.

Told her, “I like men most;” but left aghast —

She doesn’t care, spoiled girl; not smart, no insight,

Traps into engagement; I’ll always pass

#OctPoWriMo – Day 25 –  Alouette – “Insatiable Red”

Day 25 Prompt: Red
“When I was growing up I extremely disliked the color red, not sure if the fact I had red hair had anything to do with it or not. It wasn’t until a few years back that I started to enjoy red and now I love it. I completely embrace red! How about you? Love it? Hate it? Don’t feel anything about it? I have always enjoyed big red barns though, I think it is because my great grandparents lived/owned/worked on their ranch with a big red barn and farmhouse. I loved having family gatherings out there.”

Moral Monday’s Flash Fiction: “Those Cats!”

Thanks to Nortina S for hosting Moral Monday’s one-hundred word flash fiction. This week’s prompt is: ” Always Be On Your Best Behavior.”

——

———

Melly lived in an apartment in a senior’s lodge which included a stone terrace. She potted flowers and made an effort to make her terrace pretty.

Melly told her friend Emily: “I can’t stand those boys biking; they unearth my plants at night, when I’m trying to sleep.”

Their friend Brett asked Melly: “Do you think it might be cats? I see those boys on their bikes and they always politely say ‘Hello’ to me.”

Melly made a point of ignoring Brett — whom she secretly liked. She was so obnoxious and rude, he left to go sit in his apartment alone.

Melly awoke that night when she heard noises. Peering outside, she saw the boys ride by on their bikes. Then she flushed when she saw cats digging up her flowers. She mentally composed her apology to Brett.

Poems: Free Verse  – “Chivilry is Dead; Love Lives” #amwriting #poetry

http://www.polyvore.com

———

Swords, steel reflecting light, might against might;
Who has the stronger arm; who’se trained to perfection?

End ridiculous contestants, challenging each other,

Coming to blows over Ladies, with medieval weaponry.

Put your duelling pistols away, live through dawn;

You combat with each other as you choose,

It means little to me; chivalry the grim has scythed.

——-

Twenty-first-century woman, with poise taking on life.

Chivalry, extinct and never truthfully was ‘in,’

It was a gest, a game the court played for King and Queen,

Beneath the game, feigned affection reigned.

No thought for the personal freedoms of a Lady,

No thought for the woman; she was owned.

At the hub of a wheel of chilviry, the Princess on her throne.

Married off on a white horse, to a dashing young Prince.

He a tyrant, spinning the cogs and wheels of his kingdom.

She primps, preens, performing a show;

Accepting her Prince’s knight’s fealty; his dying love,

On battle field, the enemy soldiers ran the knight through.

Courtly manners, hide whispered secrets;

Lethal games, converging in mortality; bloody corpses.

Hold your swords away, do not thrust or perry for attention.

The world has out-grown “pissing contests.”

—–

Win the woman of your dreams, with humour,

Demonstrate, actual life, not fairy tales, can be fun together.

Your wife can be your lover; your lover your wife,

No having a woman pure enough for wifely duties,

And a mistress a man loved and made actual love to.

Forget Authorian Legend and courtly love; it’s rules are lore.

Buy your own Lady gloriously coloured flowers,

Take her for a night dancing; giving a memory to smile about.

Together is being with all of your close friends,

Together is melding your families;

Being united by oath; an agreement between you both.

A Lady is no longer the Princess on the courtly pedastool;

A man is no longer the white knight; we’ve put to rest fairy tales.

Netflix and chill on the couch; a stately royal date,

Closing the leather bound, dusty history’s books,

On weird courtship rituals, forced marriages, and chivalry.

More than anything, chivalry was a literary tradition.

Yet, the modern era cries; find your soulmate if you can.

Most parents finished arranging marriages,

A new way to win the bride, to win the Lady.

——

Love her for more than her sexuality, her ability to have children;

Love her though she is flawed and not entirely ideal.

Love her forever, your heart beating for her;

Chilviry in true form; hides in the modern world.

Equality of woman and men; yet woman adore being catered to,

How lovely to be spoiled; treated as if you were special despite feminism.

Only, keep your swords and your pistols in the vaults of history,

A game of fists won’t usually solve the problem.

Slipping in through the cracks of ice in her shield,

Growing warmth and heat, so her hard heart beats,

Thawing out the cold; letting spring light up her voice,

Allowing the light in her eyes to flourish and glow,

Hiding winters barren drought filled radiation.

Rays of light, they ignite and bring fire to her tears,

Bring a Princess, ignored and used —

Into the modern-era; she’s your Lady, so you treat her well,

And all her love acquire in return.

NaPoWriMo: Poem – Poetic/Everyday Words -Nonet – ” Man Sitting Still “

And last but not least, our prompt (optional, as always). Today I challenge you to write a “mix-and-match” poem in which you mingle fancy vocabulary with distinctly un-fancy words. First, spend five minutes writing a list of overly poetic words – words that you think just sound too high-flown to really be used by anyone in everyday speech. Examples might be vesper, heliotrope, or excelsior. Now spend five minutes writing words that you might use or hear every day, but which seem too boring or quotidian to be in a poem. Examples might be garbage disposal, doggy bag, bathroom. Now mix and match examples from both of your lists into a single poem. Hopefully you’ll end up with a poem that makes the everyday seem poetic, and which keeps your poetic language grounded. Happy writing!

For more information please see NaPoWriMo.

A List of Ways I Show Love to the People I Love and A List of the Small Ways I Celebrate in Life.

Thanks to La Duchesse D’erat for the list prompts this week:

A. How we show love to the people we love

B. How we celebrate.

—–

Showing Love

1. I buy flowers for the women in my life (flowers they would like) such as my Mom, friend, or Godmother every now and then so they feel appreciated and because some of them don’t receive flowers from their husbands often.

2. I buy sweet treats for some of people in my life such as my brothers, Dad, Mom, and friends. Favourites are Gluten Free Macaroon cookies from Cookies by George or Gluten Free cupcakes of any flavour for my Dad. Everyone else enjoys Purdy’s Mint Melties, Hedge Hogs, Sweet Georgia Browns, Plane Milk Chocolate, or Coconut Cream Chocolate bars. Cupcakes, mainly chocolate ones work too.

3. I send notes in the mail to my Grandmas who I can’t see as often as I wish. I wrote my Grandma Reeder a poem and mailed it to her and I try to remember my Grandmas on their Birthday’s and at Christmas time, with a card and a treat when we visit.

4. I spoil my bestfriends with birthday presents such as giftcards to stores they would enjoy, makeup they would like, or a mixture of items that are about their tastes. I try to visit my friends as best as I can but it’s always nice to be remembered on your birthday. Wine works great, a nice red wine does the trick!

5. I bake treats sometimes like chocolate fudge brownies, rhubarb cake, chocolate turtle squares, chocolate chip cookies, and apple sauce branmuffins for my family to enjoy.

6. I do extra cleaning at home or I try to remember to do a job the way my parents like the job to be done.

7. Once in a while, I take a family member, friend, or favourite date out for dinner and pay for it, whatever they like to eat including drinks and dessert. I trust these people so I know they won’t go overboard.

8. I talk with friends family often and I listen well and let them say whatever they need to say. If they’re looking for input, I give thoughtful input. I’m also complimentary when I talk to people, trying to find good and nice aspects about them. It’s much easier to get along with people when they don’t see you as a threat or competition. This being said, I’m honest if they truly want my opinion or they are hurtful to me; I’m no doormat.

9. I pray for everyone I can remember at night. Everyone needs prayer and I don’t always remember those I need to remember, but I attempt to get everyone in my prayer. I pray for those people who make my life miserable too because at times the best way to deal with them is to pray for them.

10. I share my faith in Christ and God in my writing, and I try to show my faith in my actions and voice. By no means am I perfect, and I miss many chances to witness but I try and the Holy Spirit guides me. If you have something that is utterly life changing and gives hope you want to share it.

———-

Celebrating

1. Well into my twenties, I would celebrate the end of the week, stress from work, and or school, by going out and drinking and dancing; especially, after midterms or finals. These days, I feel a two-day hangover is not worth it. When I was younger it only took a morning to bounce back, but two or three glasses of wine with the ladies is divine, with the occasional night out to dance.

2. I will get dessert when I go out for supper. Something that is chocolate cake with Carmel sauce and ice cream if the dessert menu is sufficient. I usually never order dessert otherwise.

3. I go out and do something with a friend(s) whether that be dancing, supper, drinks, movies, coffee, yoga, brunch, or walking. It’s fantastic to be with your favourite people and share your good news in a great conversation.

4. I shop or plan to shop for a new outfit or cute shoes if I’m able.

5. If I’m only giving myself a small reward, I will go buy myself a package of Three Lindt chocolate balls or an ice cream sandwich. I suppose I’m too motivated by food.

6. I go on vacation, celebrating each year and all it’s trials and good times too. Doesn’t have to be anywhere big, only a week in a fresh city with new things to do and see.

Poem: Ethree – “Helpers”

Thanks to The Daily Post for the word prompt help.

—–

——

We

Try to

Be of help,

Sometimes we are,

A hindrance,

But I was told once that,

If we’re able to give our aid,

We shouldn’t hesitate to,

Do only what we are commanded,

Love your neighbour as yourself; help them out!

But not everyone acts to help us,

Some would rather see us fail — bleed,

People aren’t always nice in life,

At times they send us tumbling,

Sometimes we fall down far,

But in the worst

Look, true —

Helpers,

Act.

Fiction: “Nerve”

Thanks to The Daily Post for the word prompt nerve.

—–

Daisy, Kyria, and Josephine were at the beach in Vancouver, watching their kids as they played in the sand and shallower lake water.

“No, Danny not too deep!” Daisy cried to her eight-year-old son as he attempted to swim into water up to his neck. “You can’t swim well enough yet, you’re only in level five,” Daisy reminded Danny who made a face at her but returned to the water up to his chest.

Kyria patted her baby Lola who she had finished breast-feeding. Her other two daughters, Ivory and Laura, were building sand castles near by. Kyria was talking to Josphine whose nine-year-old Michael played with Danny in the lake. Danny and Michael both had floating crocodiles that they sat on pretending to eat each other.

The three friends and mothers talked to one another inbetween yelling at their kids. But all conversation ceased when a curvy bombshell walked infront of them in a skimpy bikini. The bombshell had long strawberry-blonde hair and pretty freckles on her pale cheeks. She may not have been tanned but it was evident she was beautiful.

——

Amber felt like some mint-chocolate-chip ice cream. It was her day-off from work as an administrative assistant and she had been so excited when she heard the weather was going to be hot and sunny that morning. She had changed into her favourite emerald green bikini and threw a beach dress over top before sliding into flip flops.

Amber passed three mothers watching their children, walking to the ice cream store on the beach. She thought how lucky those women were to be able to have kids. Tegan (her husband) and Amber, had tried to have kids but with no success for the past three-years. At least, Amber thought, being able to look great in a bikini was some conselation.

—–

Kyria gapped at the bombshell as she passed them. The girl flung her strawberry-blond hair back and brushed her fingers through the strands. Her hips wiggled as she walked and she ran her hands down her waist and flat stomach. Kyria watched distainfully, as the girl adjusted the straps on her emerald green bikini top, ensuring her generous chest was covered.

“The nerve of that woman!” Kyria exclaimed to Daisy and Josephine.”We can all see she is skinny and a perfect hourglass shape. We don’t need her to show her body off right infront of us and our children. Who does she think she is anyways? She’s so pale too.” Kyria said with venom.

Josephine looked at Kyria annoyed. “I don’t think she meant anything walking infront of us. She’s probably only using what her Mama gave her. Remember, we used to dress in skimpy bikinis when we went to the beach, before we all had kids — Michael stop trying to drown Danny, he’s your bestfriend!”

Michael looked at his Mom Josephine and let Danny up from under the water, where he’d been holding Danny’s head down. Danny punched Michael and the boys returned to playing with their floating crocodiles.

“I agree with Kyria,” Daisy said grumpily. “That girl was showing off. Why would she do that in the middle of the day, when there are mainly families at the beach. I don’t need Danny fixated on women yet, he’s only eight. That girl has some nerve.

Josphine shook her head surprised at both her friends.” I think you two are jealous. Kyria just had a baby so she is still losing weight from pregnancy and you Daisy haven’t been keeping up with our dates to the gym. You act as if that girl should be ashamed of her own body, just because her body is in mint condition. I think you’re both being mean.” Josephine remarked.

“Why shouldn’t that woman be proud of her body, while she has it? She was probably enjoying a day off at the beach. I have pictures of you both in skimpy bikinis, not too long ago. I think you’re both hypocrites and have a lot of nerve judging another woman, especially at the beach.”Daisy and Kyria were speechless.

——

The girl in the skimpy bikini was coming back there way, licking an ice cream cone in one hand. Kyria rolled her eyes and made a disgusted noise. The girl looked up at that moment and smiled at the three ladies sitting on their blankets, underneath an umbrella in the sand. “Oh, your daughter is gorgeous,” she told Kyria walking over to Kyria, Daisy, and Josephine, “What’s her name?”

“Her name is Lola,” Kyria said stiffly.

“You are so lucky to have her. Those two beautiful girls playing in the sand, they must be your daughters as well, they look just like you.” The girl exclaimed putting out her free hand which Kyria pretended not to notice.

“I’m Amber, my husband Tegan, and I have been trying to have kids for three-years but I haven’t been able to become pregnant. I’m envious of you girls. You’re lucky to have kids, I want one so much.” Amber sighed and smiled at the two boys play fighting in the lake near by when Josephine pointed them out to her. Then, she gazed back at baby Lola adoringly.

“It was nice to meet you girls, but I promised my husband I’d make him a special supper since I have the day off.” Amber smiled genuinely at the women and waved as she walked off the beach towards the parking lot.

Josephine peered at Kyria and Daisy wondering what their reaction to Amber would be now.”She’s right,” Daisy said watching her son Danny. “We’re so lucky to have our kids. I think Danny is worth not having my bikini body anymore.”

Kyria remained silent. “I still say Amber has nerve showing off her body infront of a recently, pregnant woman.” Daisy and Josephine looked at one another and sighed.

Nerve isn’t necceserily a bad thing,” Daisy said thoughtfully. “I don’t think she was trying to make you look bad, Kyria. It’s obvious to anyone who sees you with Lola, your baby is only a few months old. She can’t help that you were pregnant, or what comes along with being pregnant. She wants what you have actually.” Kyria rolled her eyes and Daisy shook her head. There was no convincing Kyria.

Josephine looked away from her friends to see Michael and Danny dripping water on her and the blankets. “Mom, we need more sunscreen,” Michael told Josephine. Josephine smiled and sprayed both boys with SPF 50 sunscreen. Indeed, Josephine felt lucky to be a Mom. But part of her admired Amber, a woman with nerve; the good kind.

February Ending: Where Things Are. . .

Written Friday Night…..

———

http://www.pixebay.com

It’s a quiet Friday night. I am in bed at midnight. But like most nights I’m wide awake. This is useful for writing. But sometimes I feel half-way between sleep and awake. I’m not able to pay attention to write some of the longer pieces of fiction I’ve been working on through the past weeks when I’m like this, but I’m still awake and thinking.

From last weeks Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writer, a longer short story developed. I think it might be a fantastic story to use to work on getting some published pieces of fiction. It is a short story of around 10, 000 words but I can tweak it either way. I have done some research into submitting pieces such as short stories and poetry. Even the short stories seem to be quite a few thousand words. It is excellent because the Flash Fiction inspired story turned into a longer story then I anticipated. When I first sat down to write the original one-hundred-seventy-five word story, I didn’t see it becoming such a multifaceted, fascinating story. I’ve published all parts of Never Again on the blog now. Here’s Part 6 and you can work your way back from Part 6 to the original flash fiction piece as each part has a link to the piece before it.

As for, How Was Last Night For You, the novel I’ve been working on: the short story interfered with working on a couple of chapters for the novel this week. But I do plan to write up the next chapter(s) by this weekend. (SPOILER ALERT: If you’re not up to Chapter 18).For those of you who have been following along, John has broken up with Nina after she almost gets run over by a red truck. Nina and John have already overcome Nina receiving a concussion due to the sea witch Tia or Talise (John’s vengeful ex.). Nina is broken hearted John refuses to be with her to keep her safe, having admitted her love to John and his family, that night. Nina is still planning to help John break a curse Tia placed upon him — because she knows John loves her and is the only person who can help him break the curse, because of that love. John’s curse and Tia have been non-existent while Nina was healing but things are going to get ugly. Talise is coming for Nina to kill her to break John.John will stop at nothing to find Talise’s soul or her dagger (which Tia/Talise gave up her soul for) to use dark magic. But breaking up with Nina and going at Talise alone, isn’t John’s smartest idea and he will have to overcome obstacles to save Nina from Talise and himself from a lonely cursed life as Talise’s slave. So, more chapters coming soon. I’m on the fourth quarter of the book now, so it’s the home stretch. Check out Chapter 18: Defeating Talise and Breaking Nina’s Heart. You can also read the chapters before as their is a link back to the previous chapters. Thank you to those who give me reflective and constructive insight as I learn how to write a book as I go.

As for life, I’m keeping busy. When I am stressed, I have been doing yoga or adult colouring. I never believed colouring for adults would be therapeutic. I have a history in art. I did a few classes on drawing and Art History in University and took many art classes in high school. Convienantly, I received a Jamie Dornan colouring book from a friend and I have a lot of cool art supplies bought for rendering designs from my Residential Design Certificate courses. This colouring book has the bare minimum outlines of this actor so I’m having a lot of fun rendering Jamie with special paint brush markers. I bought a lot of colours and it was smart I did, they are especially useful for working on hair, eyes, and anything I want brightly coloured.

As for Jamie’s face and some other smaller details, I have been using watercolour crayons. I never used these crayons before. But I love them now. They are great for rendering an actual portrait like face and you can use them waxy as a crayon or dip a water colour brush into a bit of water and make more of a wash of colour (s). The crayons are useful, making cheek bones stand out and making noses appear three-dimensional using lighter and darker colours. Drawing ontop of a wash is an ideal way to layer colour and build facial structure, but you can only add water and build waxy colour so much. Too much water colour crayon can ruin a picture. I’ve been attempting to remember back to high school art class and how to exactly make a face look more like an actual face, with dips, rises, and bone structure. My hands remember but sometimes it is getting my mind to follow along and remember the actual theory. Colouring has been surprisingly relaxing and it allows me to express a piece of myself I have been missing lately — my artistic side.

Jamie Dornan (Coloured by Amanda Eifert).

I also saw my wonderful friend J last weekend for a pre-valentines girl’s outing . We went to see How to Be Single. It was much better and different from what I expected from a Rebel Wilson movie. Her crazy antics are calmed by the lovely Dakota Johnson (Melonie Griffith’s daughter) whose acting is fantastic in the role. This is not only a chick flick, there is depth to this movie. Also, a clear message that it is okay to be single in whatever stage of being single you are in. As for Valentine’s no date this year and I was happy not having one. I got my Mom flowers deliveried and my Dad Cookies By George, they make the perfect gluten free macaroon cookies for him. Here is a picture of the flowers my Mom received. I love how bright they are.

Mom’s Flowers (Amanda Eifert)

If  you want to see an excellent chick-flick, sure you go see How to Be Single otherwise, I’m hearing great things about Deadpool. In other news, the weather has been gorgeous and I have loved being outside for twenty or thirty minutes each day. I don’t remember a Winter in Alberta where we haven’t experienced anything lower then about minus five or six degrees celsius. It’s wonderful being out in the middle of Winter and not freezing in deep snow and  minus thirty degrees celsius temperatures. Down east, in Canada, they haven’t had it as nice but here it’s gorgeous. Light jackets are all that is needed and even most of the snow has melted, except down by my house. (Knock on Wood though because I really don’t want any blizzardy weather).

How to be Single (IMdb.com)

My fitness goals have hit a wall. I can’t seem to keep my meals down to what Weight Watchers wants me to, which is about thirty-four points. I did it for a couple weeks and was down about six-pounds but back up again a few pounds. I’m eating around forty to fifty points. I’m fine in the day but night time is killing me. I go to sleep around 11:00 pm, or later if I’m writing, and before I can sleep I become so hungry I cannot sleep. So working on that and will be doing The RedBox in a couple-weeks. It is something my friend and many of her friends have done to help them lose weight but also to make them feel better all around from things such as allergies and back problems. I hope it works and helps me to sit at a healthier weight. Because I’m unable to do the cardiovascular exercise needed to lose weight I often need to look to supplements etc. I have tried many that didn’t work but I’m hoping the Red Box gives me some results and if not I get all my money back. I have seen some wonderful results from people in the Edmonton area so I’m excited.

Well, I will be posting some new novel chapters. I have a beauty blog I want to do on a few products and an article of skincare/shaving for men with some good drugstore options to help your guy have fantastic skin. I will continue working my way through different types of poetry and hopefully I can spend more time reading for a bit, so I have some actual progress to show on my PopSugar Reading list. Thanks and have a great week.

Part 6: Never Again – Finding Peace.

Please read Part 5 of ‘Never Again’ here.

Part 6: Never Again – Finding Peace.

(Three-Months Later).

“Kasia, are you finished packing?” Jolene asked her daughter.

“Yeah, I’m good Mom, but I had to get another suitcase. I did more shopping then I thought.” Kasia was huffing and puffing as she dealt with her suitcases, bringing them outside Chateau Blanc for Luc to load in an SUV.

“I’m not ready to leave Mom. I’ve had such a fantastic time here, seeing Auntie Cathy and hanging out with Damon.” Kasia sighed. ” I can’t believe I didn’t meet him until a month and a half ago . . .and you’re leaving Luc behind too?” Kasia exclaimed with surprise.

“Kasia,” Jolene said. “We have to go back to Ottawa for awhile at least. Auntie Cathy will be moving into a condo close to where we live soon. She only has to finish training her replacement event planner and do a bit of packing.” Jolene cleared her throat reaching for a bottle of water in her purse.

” Luc owns Chateau Blanc but he’s found an experienced caretaker to keep the place running. Luc’s a trained architectural Engineer and he’s taking a job at an Engineering Firm in Ottawa. He’ll have a great deal of input on projects and doing them to LEED standards around the world. You know he is passionate about the environment…” Jolene said shrugging with a smile.

“What about Damon? How will I see him. If I’m supposed to travel around with you and have a tutor for high school, when will I see Damon?” Kasia asked worriedly. “I’ve been saving money to travel. You know, the money I made modelling for La Petite Mademoiselle and a few other shoots, Simon, your agent, could find for plus-sized models in Nice… How will you see Luc if we’re always travelling?” Kasia asked. Jolene smiled as Kasia peppered her with questions. They’d both been extremely occupied the last few weeks.

“There is going to be some changes, Kasia. I’m not going to model anymore. I will have business trips with La Petite Mademoiselle in Europe. I have hired a couple of Presidents for the Canadian and United States chains. Judy thought it was a great idea, she wants to travel more with her husband.” Jolene explained.

” Judy and I will be dealing with our expansion into France and into other select European cities. You will have occasions where you will be able to come to France with me or Luc and see Damon, while you work on Grade Ten material with your tutor. Damon maybe in Grade Twelve, but he also has his last year of high school to get through in Nice.” Jolene reminded Kasia.

“I think, it’s best to keep most of your modelling work for La Petite Mademoiselle, until you are eighteen. I don’t want to overwhelm you when you need to focus on school.  Not to mention, I would like for you to still put a shift in every week in our flagship store in Ottawa when we are home. It will help you to know how our company works on the ground level.” Jolene added. Kasia sighed, not completely happy with her Mom’s solution for Kasia’s schooling and work. Would she get to see Damon enough between work and school? What if Damon forgot about Kasia for some other girl?

“So, if you’re busy overseeing things in Europe, how will you organize your schedule with Luc’s” Kasia asked Jolene.

Jolene’s face lit with a smile. “I have something to tell you… I’m getting married to Luc! He asked me last week. It was so hard for me not to tell you. I wanted to wait for the perfect time, I suppose that’s now.” General shrieking ensued and the details of the proposal were shared.

” Luc will be doing some projects in Europe as well, so all three of us will often be back at the Chateau Blanc and Auntie Cathy is welcome, whenever she wants to come along.” Kasia was taken aback. Everything seemed to be falling into place. Kasia was overjoyed Luc would be her step-dad. Her only Dad, as far as Kasia was concerned. She missed Damon alread, even though he was chatting with Luc. He had come to the Chateau to see Kasia before she went back to Canada. “Damon,” Kasia called. . .

——

An iPhone began ringing and Jolene felt her pocket buzz. Her face went pale when she saw the number on the phone. It was Scott’s work number. Jolene felt sick. She hadn’t heard from Scott since she left Nice over five-years-ago. Jolene wasn’t ready to talk to Scott. But perhaps, she should accept his call and tell Scott once and for all, to leave her alone.

“Hello” Jolene said quietly, walking away from Kasia.

“Hello Jolene,” Scott said.”Nice of you to get in touch with me when you were here.” Jolene said nothing at first.

“Why would I want anything to do with you Scott. I don’t love you anymore and I’m not attracted to you. Our time together is a lifetime away, I’m getting married.” Scott laughed

” So, I heard. It took you a long time. It was difficult getting over me, huh?” Scott said.

” And why is that?” Jolene questioned Scott.

“Because you will always have me in our daughter, Kasia. She looks a lot like me you know. You should have told me about her.” Scott said sounding wounded.

” How did you find out about Kasia? You can’t have her. She’s mine, my daughter — not yours. You wanted me to abort her.” Jolene said furiously.

“Kasia came to visit me a couple months ago. She wanted to meet me. I can’t blame her. She’s a smart girl and tracked me down.” Scott remarked.

“Damn it,” Jolene said, “Auntie Cathy told her everything. I knew we should have kept our mouths shut about you, Scott. You stay away from Kasia, I mean it! I can afford a great lawyer these days so don’t try anything. You are not allowed to see Kasia until she’s eighteen. Then, it is her choice, unfortunately.”Jolene yelled into her phone.

“Relax, Jolene. I don’t want anything from you or Kasia. Kasia wanted to meet me but she doesn’t want a relationship with me. She also told me to stay away from her and you.” Scott said hushing Jolene.

” I don’t need Katrina finding out I have an illegitimate daughter, who might be a threat to the money Katrina brought to our marriage. She wouldn’t like it if Kasia inherited anything. Additionally, having somewhat a relationship with my own daughter Sara and my boys is hard enough.” Scott told Jolene, tiredly.

“So, what are you calling about then?” Jolene seethed.

“I need to apologize,” Scott admitted to Jolene.”It was wrong of me to tell you to get rid of Kasia when she was barely a person. I saw her at my office and I’m so thankful you never got the abortion. She’s a beautiful girl and I have no doubt she will be as successful in life as you Jolene.” Jolene couldn’t believe Scott was apologizing.

“Kasia hates me for trying to have her aborted and that bothers me. I couldn’t stand it if my daughter Sara was as mad at me, as Kasia is mad at me,” Scott admitted. “Kasia is also upset because of what I did to you. I can’t change myself  Jolene. I am who I am.” Scott said.

“But, I regret cheating on you the entire time we were together, when you were off modelling. I was never your ‘one,’ and only guy. I’m no women’s ‘one.’ I’m my own guy. I like to be in control and be with whoever I desire. Katrina understands this, she has had a long-time affair with another man. Kasia believes that guy provides for Katrina, what I should be providing for her, love and attention.” Scott said, his voice scratchy. Admitting his faults was hard for him, Kasia had made him think.

” I’m sorry I met so much to you Jolene. I wish I hadn’t met much to you. I would have broken it off sooner, but I had plans…”

“You are and were selfish Scott,” Jolene shouted.” You never cared about my feelings or what I thought about something. You even tried to tell me I was pretending I wanted a baby — which is why I never told you about Kasia.”

” It wouldn’t have mattered had you told me you had had our baby. My Dad said Katrina was the right wife for me. She is in a sense. . . What I wanted to tell you though is for Kasia: Do not let her end up with a guy like me. I told Kasia ‘boys will be boys’ and that men naturally cheat. She called me on it and I thought about it and she’s right, not all men cheat. My half-brother for instance, is faithful to his wife. He works at the company with me.” Scott said.

” Kasia needs to find a guy like my half-brother. Not like me or her Grandpa. And tell her Scott said he will do his utmost to ensure someone like him does not marry her half-sister Sara.” Jolene pressed the phone to her ear. She was amazed at what Scott told her.

“For real, that’s all you want?” Jolene stuttered. “You want Kasia to end up with a kind and faithful partner? You aren’t trying to get me to sleep with you or have an affair with you? You promise to leave Kasia alone, even though I never told you she was your daughter?” Jolene could barely say anything she was so surprised by Scott’s reason for calling. She heard him sigh on the phone.

” As far as I’m concerned Jolene, you and I are done. I have my life and you have yours. We may be connected by Kasia but I promise, I won’t interfere in your lives. If Kasia in the future, wants to contact me so I can help her get into a prestigious university, I can help her, it’s the least I can do.But I have one request Jolene. . . ” Scott’s voice sounded sad to Jolene. She didn’t remember Scott ever sounding emotional.

“Please send, me a picture of Kasia once in awhile on your phone. Not often, just so I know she’s okay.” Jolene couldn’t believe what she was hearing. She kept her voice neutral.

” I can do that, if Kasia doesn’t mind. I will tell her what you said,” Jolene remarked. “I’ll mention you can get her into a prestigious university, no strings attached. And I will definitely make sure she never falls for a man like you.”

“Great. . . gotta go Jolene. My 3:00 pm is here. Good Luck.” Scott said distractedly. Jolene heard the phone click and knew, Scott had moved on. She couldn’t blame Scott for that. It was time for Jolene and Kasia to move on in life as well.

——

I watch my niece as she finishes walking down the aisle. Beneath her veil, her face is glowing. Her eyes are fixed lovingly on her fiancé, Luc Devereaux.

Luc has a giant grin on his handsome face. He told me earlier, “Aunt Cathy, I can’t believe I get to marry Jolene. I always thought and dreamed about her. She’ll be my wife, and I get a beautiful step-daughter too.”

I carefully patted my new nephews arm. He used to be my boss but now, I am his cherished Auntie.”You’re perfect for Jolene and Kasia. You’re all exactly what the three of you needed, ” I tell Luc.

I see Luc take Jolene’s hand and slide on her wedding band. Jolene does the same for Luc. Beautiful Kasia is her Mom’s maid of honour in a couture pink gown.

But Jolene is simply stunning, channeling Grace Kelly. She is the perfect vintage leading lady in her bridal gown, except for one thing. Jolene’s back reveals a tattoo I never knew she had until I helped her change into her dress this morning.

Jolene’s tattoo is a quote that reads: “You never know how strong you are, until being strong is all you have to be.”

Jolene’s tattoo demonstrates all that she has come through in life to be at the the altar with her ‘one,’ Luc. It tells me Jolene will be strong whatever she faces in life. But she isn’t alone. She has Kasia, Luc, and as always, her Auntie Cathy who had the pleasure of walking her cherished niece, down the aisle.
