A List Portrait Of Myself.


Thank You to La Duchesse D’erat for hosting this weeks list prompt. The list prompt for this week is a portrait of who you are.


Eating – For the most part a lot of protein and green vegetables. I am supposed to increase my protein because I’m not getting enough and am not losing weight because  I’m eating too little protein.

I’m not sure about this advice, but it is what my coach says from the supplement system I am on. I’ll have to check at the end of the week. Hopefully, I haven’t gained weight.

For protein I like greek yogurt, pecans, almonds, avocado, chicken breasts and thighs, occasionally pork or beef, and eggs.


Drinking – “Water, water everywhere but not a drop to drink.” – “Rhyme of the Ancient Mariner”

Kidding though. There is much water I’m supposed to drink. I have about five or six glasses of eight ounce each day, more if I can. Every few days I like a glass of milk or a Pepsi.


Watching – Scandal! It’s my favourite show and so exciting. Olivia can’t go anywhere near Jake and ruin her father’s plans of getting him into the Oval Office, or he’ll slit Jake’s throat. Olivia broke Jake’s heart so he wouldn’t die. All the candidates are being gathered for election for the new President after Fitz. It will be interesting who makes it into the Republican and Democratic leadership position on the show. Funny enough, there is a Donald Trump like character on the show.

Also love – Grey’s Anatomy, Vampire Diaries, Season 5 of Downton Abbey, and The Catch.


Going – Who knows at this point. I would like to take a small vacation somewhere. I’m thinking Vancouver at this moment.


Reading – The Shadow by Sylvain Reynard. Excellent writer. If you haven’t read the writer’s first series beginning with Gabriel’s Inferno, it’s awesome and has three books to it. This is the second book in his vampire series, which is connected to his first series. Yes, they are romance type books but have a lot of theology and paranormal aspects as well.


Texting – I’m kind of in a constant state of texting.


Playing – “Stairway to Heaven” by Led Zeppelin. A classic which never grows old.


Working – 1. On blogging and my different prompt challenges. This Month I’m doing #Mayday prompts from C.L. Kaley of new2blogging, please join in doing her prompts each day in May. Link to her page after each prompt.

2. Finishing How Was Last Night For You the last few chapters in first draft. I need to write the happy ending then, the first draft is done.

3. Working on editing in a major way, the first chapter of How Was Last Night For You. Going to be making sure, every sentence should be there for each chapter.


Listening – Well besides to my IPAD music, the Edmonton Global News is on. Bad fires in Ft. McMurray, Alberta. The entire city has had to evacuate. It’s awful!


Thanking – God, I don’t live in Ft. McMurray and praying for the people who have to leave their homes, probably to come back to nothing but scorched debris. I don’t think insurance covers this fire damage unless they find out it was arson. ‘Acts of God,’ aren’t covered by insurance. Prayers for them please!


Buying  – I paid my cellphone bill.


Planning – I want to finish my novel off in first draft. Then I need to edit and do more research on publishing. Also, need to figure out the vacation thing.And I need to spend a few days reading books, instead of writing them.


Visiting – My Grandma I hope for Mother’s Day. Also, my Great-Godmother sometime soon.


Wondering – Why is this list so long?


Feeling – Tired and frustrated. I’m trying to write and people keep talking to me all day long. I love the late hours when people are asleep and I can write in peace 🙂

Where I’m At: Catching Up in March

Every so often, I try to update you with the details of my life, beneath the writing, and the subtext behind poems. I don’t think I’ve done this since the end of February, so I’d like to share a bit about my life lately.

One of the biggest areas in life I’m working on is my health. Those of you who have been with me a while know I suffer from a mood disorder (depression) and from that depression,  excessive amounts of fatigue.

 

Psychiatric drugs are evil little pills. I started with Invega which stopped an initial psychosis (which has never occurred again) but also made me ‘flat;’ caused a great deal of pain in muscles of my back, shoulders, and neck;  as well as resulted in a weight gain over ten pounds. After switching to risperidone, I gained another ten pounds and using a medication to help me sleep called Gabapentin, added twelve pounds or more. The antipsychotic I’m on now works a great deal better for me then any of the ones I was on before, but as usual, I gained another ten pounds.

Experiencing fatigue most of the time makes it difficult to exercise and do cardio. I have been feeling well enough to walk for twenty to thirty minutes three or four times a week. And on off days, I have been trying to do yoga for twenty minutes.

My big change lately has been a diet and supplement overhaul. I use supplements from a

system called the  ‘redbox.’ It is a system of health focused not only on losing weight but living a healthy lifestyle. Different supplements in the system have helped many people lose weight; stop feeling chronic pain such as fibromyalgia or arthritis; given people a ton more energy; and aided people in maintaining a fitness level at the gym or otherwise.

Using the supplements you start with an Eight Day Ignite, a detox in which your body gets rid of bad toxins and resets your metabolism so you can lose weight and function better. In my first Eight Days, I lost 5 lbs and 8.5 inches. I was pleased with my initial result, especially losing inches in my hips, waist, and thighs. Many women lose much more then I lost initially. I’m continuing on the ignite plan for the rest of the month (the detox part is finished) and I’m hoping to be able to lose 9 lbs by the end of this month, to reach my first weight and health goal. After, I will continue on some of the supplements on the weight loss plan.

A meal plan is provided, and the plan includes eating well in small meals throughout the day focusing on eating protein and green vegetables. One day I get to eat carbohydrates such as fruit, rice, whole grain bread  (etc.) and on Sunday I can eat what I like, it’s a cheat day. The plan also includes exercise of about thirty minutes a day and using some of the supplements. Many people have had great results on these products. So I’m excited to see where they can take me, especially since losing weight without significant cardio has been a challenge.

Besides my health, I have been up to many other things. I have been working a lot on developing short stories and other pieces for submission. I was excited to submit one of my first short stories developed off a Flash Fiction piece I wrote in the past. And I’m looking also at submitting some pieces of poetry in the future.  I keep discovering new ideas and new topics that I would like to write short stories to submit. It’s a bit of a challenge as many of you probably know because each place you submit to has different submission guidelines and wants stories of specific length. Short story for instance, vary widely from 800 words to as many as 40, 000 in some of the places I’ve been looking at.

Work on my novel continues, albeit, at a slower pace then I have been doing. Working on

the novel and working on pieces in-between, often results in the novel being left for a week or two. I do plan to write up a couple of chapters this week if possible. The book is at an exciting  part  so I have to move onward. I thought initially, I was writing long chapters and would have plenty of length for a full book. But PJ asked me if I was doing a novella or novel, and I thought about it a bit and I think I might have to add some parts into the novel, or weave in a second storyline. I will see where I am at the end of the first draft which is rapidly coming to a close. I’m thankful to have a blogger friend Martin, offering to go through and help edit my book once I have all the chapters together on word, and I will do the same for his book. Then, I suppose I will be doing a whole bunch of rewriting.

My blogging schedule has been hectic. Since I’m not in a course so I can write, I don’t mind it at all. Although, sometimes commenting and writing takes a great amount of time. In-between this all I’m still working through different forms of poetry, doing the one word prompts provided by The Daily Post , as well as my novel. I will not be doing The Daily Post prompts in April due to National Poetry Writing Month. But, you will still find I do the odd beauty post and other topics that come to my mind.

I’m not sure how completing the POPSUGAR booklist will end up. I read here and there but have only been able to get through two or three books lately. I know when spring finally arrives (in appearance), and I can see the flowers and not see it snowing outside, I will be in much more of a reading mood.

In addition to writing and health, I’m going to movies, catching up on my favourite shows such as Scandal (my favourite right now), watching movies on Netflix, seeing friends whenever I can, doing a bit of dating, and fitting everything else in when I can. Hope all is going well for you.

February Ending: Where Things Are. . .

It’s a quiet Friday night. I am in bed at midnight. But like most nights I’m wide awake. This is useful for writing. But sometimes I feel half-way between sleep and awake. I’m not able to pay attention to write some of the longer pieces of fiction I’ve been working on through the past weeks when I’m like this, but I’m still awake and thinking.

From last weeks Flash Fiction for Aspiring Writer, a longer short story developed. I think it might be a fantastic story to use to work on getting some published pieces of fiction. It is a short story of around 10, 000 words but I can tweak it either way. I have done some research into submitting pieces such as short stories and poetry. Even the short stories seem to be quite a few thousand words. It is excellent because the Flash Fiction inspired story turned into a longer story then I anticipated. When I first sat down to write the original one-hundred-seventy-five word story, I didn’t see it becoming such a multifaceted, fascinating story. I’ve published all parts of Never Again on the blog now. Here’s Part 6 and you can work your way back from Part 6 to the original flash fiction piece as each part has a link to the piece before it.

As for, How Was Last Night For You, the novel I’ve been working on: the short story interfered with working on a couple of chapters for the novel this week. But I do plan to write up the next chapter(s) by this weekend. (SPOILER ALERT: If you’re not up to Chapter 18).For those of you who have been following along, John has broken up with Nina after she almost gets run over by a red truck. Nina and John have already overcome Nina receiving a concussion due to the sea witch Tia or Talise (John’s vengeful ex.). Nina is broken hearted John refuses to be with her to keep her safe, having admitted her love to John and his family, that night. Nina is still planning to help John break a curse Tia placed upon him — because she knows John loves her and is the only person who can help him break the curse, because of that love. John’s curse and Tia have been non-existent while Nina was healing but things are going to get ugly. Talise is coming for Nina to kill her to break John.John will stop at nothing to find Talise’s soul or her dagger (which Tia/Talise gave up her soul for) to use dark magic. But breaking up with Nina and going at Talise alone, isn’t John’s smartest idea and he will have to overcome obstacles to save Nina from Talise and himself from a lonely cursed life as Talise’s slave. So, more chapters coming soon. I’m on the fourth quarter of the book now, so it’s the home stretch. Check out Chapter 18: Defeating Talise and Breaking Nina’s Heart. As for life, I’m keeping busy. When I am stressed, I have been doing yoga or adult colouring. I never believed colouring for adults would be therapeutic. I have a history in art. I did a few classes on drawing and Art History in University and took many art classes in high school. Convienantly, I received a Jamie Dornan colouring book from a friend and I have a lot of cool art supplies bought for rendering designs from my Residential Design Certificate courses. This colouring book has the bare minimum outlines of this actor so I’m having a lot of fun rendering Jamie with special paint brush markers. I bought a lot of colours and it was smart I did, they are especially useful for working on hair, eyes, and anything I want brightly coloured. 

As for Jamie’s face and some other smaller details, I have been using watercolour crayons. I never used these crayons before. But I love them now. They are great for rendering an actual portrait like face and you can use them waxy as a crayon or dip a water colour brush into a bit of water and make more of a wash of colour (s). The crayons are useful, making cheek bones stand out and making noses appear three-dimensional using lighter and darker colours. Drawing ontop of a wash is an ideal way to layer colour and build facial structure, but you can only add water and build waxy colour so much. Too much water colour crayon can ruin a picture. I’ve been attempting to remember back to high school art class and how to exactly make a face look more like an actual face, with dips, rises, and bone structure. My hands remember but sometimes it is getting my mind to follow along and remember the actual theory. Colouring has been surprisingly relaxing and it allows me to express a piece of myself I have been missing lately — my artistic side.

I also saw my wonderful friend J last weekend for a pre-valentines girl’s outing . We went to see How to Be Single. It was much better and different from what I expected from a Rebel Wilson movie. Her crazy antics are calmed by the lovely Dakota Johnson (Melonie Griffith’s daughter) whose acting is fantastic in the role. This is not only a chick flick, there is depth to this movie. Also, a clear message that it is okay to be single in whatever stage of being single you are in. As for Valentine’s no date this year and I was happy not having one. I got my Mom flowers deliveried and my Dad Cookies By George, they make the perfect gluten free macaroon cookies for him. Here is a picture of the flowers my Mom received. I love how bright they are.

If  you want to see an excellent chick-flick, sure you go see How to Be Single otherwise, I’m hearing great things about Deadpool. In other news, the weather has been gorgeous and I have loved being outside for twenty or thirty minutes each day. I don’t remember a Winter in Alberta where we haven’t experienced anything lower then about minus five or six degrees celsius. It’s wonderful being out in the middle of Winter and not freezing in deep snow and  minus thirty degrees celsius temperatures. Down east, in Canada, they haven’t had it as nice but here it’s gorgeous. Light jackets are all that is needed and even most of the snow has melted, except down by my house. (Knock on Wood though because I really don’t want any blizzardy weather).

My fitness goals have hit a wall. I can’t seem to keep my meals down to what Weight Watchers wants me to, which is about thirty-four points. I did it for a couple weeks and was down about six-pounds but back up again a few pounds. I’m eating around forty to fifty points. I’m fine in the day but night time is killing me. I go to sleep around 11:00 pm, or later if I’m writing, and before I can sleep I become so hungry I cannot sleep. So working on that and will be doing The RedBox in a couple-weeks. It is something my friend and many of her friends have done to help them lose weight but also to make them feel better all around from things such as allergies and back problems. I hope it works and helps me to sit at a healthier weight. Because I’m unable to do the cardiovascular exercise needed to lose weight I often need to look to supplements etc. I have tried many that didn’t work but I’m hoping the Red Box gives me some results and if not I get all my money back. I have seen some wonderful results from people in the Edmonton area so I’m excited.

Well, I will be posting some new novel chapters. I have a beauty blog I want to do on a few products and an article of skincare/shaving for men with some good drugstore options to help your guy have fantastic skin. I will continue working my way through different types of poetry and hopefully I can spend more time reading for a bit, so I have some actual progress to show on my PopSugar Reading list. Poem: Waiting to Shop


I would be thrilled if I could go shopping, 

I enjoy it online or in some stores, 

I don’t buy too many clothes, but when it’s cold,

I like to buy opaque tights, blouses, and boots.

A few pieces that show I’ve kept up in fashion,

I am on trend, and I look put together,

See before you, the image of a fashionable girl,

But I’m trying to lose weight and go down a few sizes.

A problem because my wardrobe is built on 

All my favourite clothes but in my current sizes.

So if I buy even a piece or two more, that is just

More clothes that don’t fit at a size or two smaller

That gape at my waist, and look as if they’ll fall off me.

At least that’s how I imagine it would be,

I’ve got months ahead of me and the problem is,

I can’t do any shopping until I am sure,

What size I will be, or what size I will not be.

And it’s not an issue of money. I could shop if I want.

But the practical voice inside tells me, wear your wardrobe 

And wait for spring shopping,

Then you will see, if you’ll be how you’ll be.

Or if your clothes all still fit and you can buy the same sizes. 

A first world problem, indeed.
