Thanks to Mush of #dVerse Poet’s Pub for a prompt theme on metaphorical masks. As usual for this month, combining with OctPoWriMo Day 24 prompt on when lovers meet using the Blitz form of poetry.

Darling you wear your mask

Darling you’re in hideous pitch black

Black rooms with no light

Black rooms without hope

Hope is what tells me keep trying

Hope is what tells me keep looking

Looking for someone to love

Looking for someone to share life

Life is amazing

Life could be sweeter

Sweeter as nights by the fire

Sweeter as nights in your arms

Arms that protect and hold

Arms that are safe and warm

Warm as companionship and sensual fire

Warm as a person without a mask

Masks are the problem with today

Masks hide our true selves

Selves but characters we form

Selves unreal and afraid of showing

Showing we care and love

Showing it’s okay enjoying each other’s company

Company that might be more permanent

Company that’s beyond a few days or nights

Nights that are fun, sexy, and happy

Nights making memories of us

Us being are true selves

Us not hiding behind constructed masks

Masks are so deceptive

Masks leave room for too many lies

Lies prevent intimacy

Lies cause pain and hurt

Hurt is what we try to avoid

Hurt is the reason we play these games

Games of waiting to call or text

Games frightening because of our closeness

Closeness is a risk of pain

Closeness means affection and love

Love isn’t without misery

Love is also passion and fights

Fights of jealousy and misreading

Fights to push away someone to near

Near enough to know you’re hurt

Near enough to hold you when there’s tears

Hurt can be healed when we’re honest

Tears can be rare when we’re both unmasked.

Poem: Minute – “Bestfriends and Lovers” #wordhighjuly #amwriting #poetry #kaulayau

———

Feeling peace; in my life you’re a balm.

My body is calm;

Mouth softly turns,

Together we learn.

———

Gazing in your eyes, reflecting.

Smile love inflects.

Your eyes gleaming,

Both us we dream.

——-

Magnatism, hands entwining,

Thoughtless combine.

Despite small fights,

We talk; no flight.

——–

Sometimes you need your space, and I mine.

Eyes know our signs.

Always meet each —

Other; hands reach.

——–

A gaze, a grin, our language known,

We both intone,

Stories we share,

Affectionate, care.

——-

Knowing each other; intimacy.

Made intricately,

Life together,

Us forever.

Poem: “Talk to Me.”

http://www.consciouslifenews.com

I am worth more then you think,

I’m worth a conversation,

A long exhaustive one where,

We stay the whole night talking,

And we’re still wearing all our–

Clothes because talking is an–

Intimacy when it is,

Between the two of us and,

There is so much I want to–

Know about you, I need to —

Understand the full picture.

And then because I know you well,

We could kiss and caress in–

The morning sunrise before we,

Settle in our seperate places.

His and Hers sections of the–

Bed. But I’ll link my foot with–

Your calf and listen to you–

Breathe; it brings a calmness to–

Me. That we loved through our own,

Voices, before your body–

Loved mine.  Before your lips taste

All my skin, you knew me in —

My mind. And loved me for my–

Heart. It makes me feel such Joy,

That we are “all in” and find,

We know each other better,

Every time we look, touch and —

Speak in words we know secret,

Meanings to; and I slumber,

Waiting for you to wake and see,

In us is an eternity.

In us is conversation,

Beyond the most sacred words,

Beyond the looks we share with —

Eyes that keep catching. I see,

Just today, and then I see maybe,

A tomorrow where I can,

Hear your beating heart and I’m,

So blessed to feel so divine.

I’m happy to be your girl.

Poem: Intimacy

I am an old fashioned girl in many ways, my conservative values are being uprooted. I like to be free but —

I think that a few dates to get to know a guy is pertinent to understanding he and you.

But all these guys don’t want to put in the effort. They want you in bed, before you’ve said your name and basic details.

They want sex,  primarily, you’re just a pretty face. Where are the guys who put effort into making a girl feel special and valued?

I’m a feminist, and I want  to be equal to men; it seems we’re not. We’re still objectified.

But impressing a girl, and having fun together it’s important. I’m for slow beginnings, to build roots. I’m for midnight laughter and sharing parts of yourself in your head first.

Where are the men who care about you as a person and like to talk to you? Where are the guys who don’t want to only hook up, but actually go on a few dates first.

I think if you think, I’m going to sleep with you; I should like you a lot and know you enough that I’m comfortable with you. Sex changes everything.

Why should I sleep with some random guy? I want him to be invested in our relationship. I want more then a night. One night stands never go well.

But I’m old fashioned and girls almost half my age just give sex away; never thinking that they’ve lost intimacy somewhere along the way; that the owed a guy nothing.

Poem: Skin

Want me for more than just sex,

Don’t use me to get that high,

Like me for my mind, my soul,

Don’t like me just for my behind.

Want me for more than just to get laid,

If you can’t listen to me and care what I say,

Then you might as well, get out of the way.

You might as well go after the last girl you lost.

She’ll go for sex, but maybe not.

Maybe she learned to avoid the game you play.

Looking for that something else, the right guys give away.

No one is perfect, no one is precisely matched.

But I keep my heels and my standards high,

Because I’m a keeper, and I don’t like your vibe.

The disease you may bring, it frightens me.

How many chicks do you do this with?

I don’t mind intimacy, but I don’t like being used.

I’m not built for loving and leaving,

I wasn’t built with my screws loose.

Some girls like it your way, I’ll leave you for them.

Because unless you like me for me,

We can’t be more then just acquaintances.

But I could be wrong, you could be a good guy.

We’ll see where this goes but you don’t know me.

And intimacy implies a knowing of more than just skin.
