Music Prompt #5: Poem – Lunes – “Not Your Mama” #amwriting #poetry #musicchallenge

Thanks to MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting the Music Prompt every second Friday. Last week’s song was “I Ain’t Your Mama” by Jennifer Lopez. I guess next time I’ll have to pick a better song, no one was interested in giving this one a go. But I should write for my own prompt at least.

“I Ain’t Your Mama” by Jennifer Lopez

——-

I’m not just the woman,

Who cooks for,

Love, your favourite foods served.

——

I’m not the one who should,

Be waking you,

To work, every single morning.

——-

Crazy in love, partners united,

We’ve fallen apart,

Let’s glue the past together.

——

For a future where we’re —

Both committed; both —

Living life to the fullest.

—–

No settling into comfortable boredom,

Watching TV not,

Noticing each other, nor caring.

—–

Do some house work, it —

Will heat up,

The sheets; bring back fire —

——

And if you don’ t desire,

Changes or improvement,

Tell me now, I’ll pack —

——-

My bags; I’ll start again,

Because I deserve —

Better — I Ain’t Your Mama.

Shadow the horse was spirited and wild; the same could be said of her mistress Evelyn. Although Evelyn’s parents tried to tie her down to a man of prosperity and ‘good breeding‘ at twenty-one, she had refused their efforts. More than a decade later she was a renowned Dermotologist and still fiercely independent.

Evelyn had expected to be alone with her thoughts riding Shadow in the morning. Then, Ryder had appeared on his chestnut horse. He was the neighbour’s son who had left home at twenty-two to become a successful artist. He was as attractive as ever.

He cut Evelyn off with his horse, so she was forced to ride Shadow in the ocean surf. Ryder tipped his riding hat to her, his brown-eyes glimmering at Evelyn with challenge.

She had never been a woman to back down, so she raced Ryder back to the stables on his property and won. Ryder had grinned at her with charm and Evelyn for once, allowed herself to be affected. She remained with Ryder long into the following day.

Paulette had never seen anything as thrilling as the dawning sun kissing the ocean turning the blue-green water of the ports a shimmering orange. She was high above the city in a helicopter.

It used to be her favourite time of the day, before violence, destruction, and war was waged against the island of Jespa. Although many international leaders did not want to aggravate their largest trading partners, the communist country Hincqua, other countries supported the democratic island country of Jespa who had formed seeking independence from Hincqua.

Hincqua had not put up with Jespa’s humiliation for long. As a result, when the sun was high in the sky, Paulette’s heart sank at the decimation before her. She only knew it was her team’s job to aid the survivors in starting over. Jespa had become uninhabitable.

Poem: Grow

Growth is a strange thing to watch from a distance; to see your bestfriends when you were young, become ‘adult’adults.

To see the drinking binges slow to every now and then; to not order drinks with dinner because we’re trying to be healthy.

To see your friends not stuck anymore in someplace that was holding them back; to see them educate themselves for work and travel for training.

To see them couple up; to see couples years together break it off; to see some couples get married to people who actually complement them.

To see your friends have babies, one or two or three; to sit at a table where Mommy topics are debated; and staying healthy, eating fresh, organic, vegetables and meat is the score.

To have friends in high school and in university who have passed away; to wonder where they went. To hope that they went to heaven because you know no one is invincible to death.

To have friends who suffer diseases : cancer, MS, and mental illness; depression is a common thing and so is anxiety, yet our awareness that we could have any disease at our age is covered by our blinders.

To have had a job or two in actual grown-up jobs that pay salaries that pay the bills; that you can shop for your own food; take care of a pet; to save and move into a house.

I watch you all growing and I’m proud that you’re grown. I just hope you keep growing and never ‘act’ old. Even though your responsible to your partner now.

I watch from the distance and you don’t see it because I’m slower then you; but I am growing too.

I have to grow in a different way to find balance in my world. I need to grow in spirit and imagine what is possible. I pray to grow just as you do someday.
