Tale Weaver: Poem – Synchronocity – “A Deadly Night” #amwriting #poetry #fiction #taleweavers

Here is last week’s  Tale Weaver prompt, held by MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie. The prompt is a story about being caught in a deep freeze.

——-

Stuck fast in this ice, no relief,

Car pushed off he highway it’s —

Dark, cold

——-

We’re lucky we’re uninjured that,

We’ve signals on our smart phones; night

Descends.

——-

There’s no gas left in the tank from,

Starting, then turning off the heat

Stars bleed

——

Giant glimmering balls, twinkle,

Outside our windows; but we’re still —

Stuck here.

——-

We called the AMA, come find —

Us because we’re frozen; minus

Forty

——-

Nighttime is bitter, freezing we’re,

Huddled beneath silver blankets,

Wondering.

——-

Then he starts shaking, lips so blue

Then he’s still; hypothermia

Induced.

*****

But the sun is rising now; we’ve —

Made it through the dark; my friend he —

Yet sleeps.

——

Hearing voices outside our car,

Come to save us now, opening —

Our doors.

——

Light leaks in, such needed warmth; I —

feel my hands, shaking you awake,

You blink

A Mixed Bag

“I can’t believe we ever lived there.”

“Yeah it’s a dump, but we didn’t have much choice at the time, Minnie.”

“Oh Henry, we had such good times there. It was dirty and there were too many drug dealers and thugs. But somehow we made it home alive each night. We huddled inside, afraid of every noise. But we had each other always.”

“You got used to the noise after awhile,” Henry said.

“Then we were finally done school and had real jobs. In a couple of years, we bought our first condo and I had Tracy. The condo was a much nicer place and in a family neighbourhood,” Minnie remarked.

“Life it goes by so fast,” Henry said squeezing Minnie’s shoulder gently.

“What Henry, where are we?” Minnie suddenly said. “You don’t look like Henry? Well a bit but you’re old. Why are they tearing down our apartment Henry?”

Henry sighed. Minnie was gone from him again.

Baby Girl

Softest, palest skin, girl with bright blue eyes,

Tiny, huddled, swaddled in blankets tight.

Gossamer fabrics, plush and fluffy, hide.

Smooth, delicate artistry; babe thrives.

Connection between child and mother strong,

Small babe in pink, flaxen blond hair curls.

Smooth delicate artistry; babe thrives,

Gossamer fabrics, plush and fluffy, hide.

Developing, playful; peering, curious eyes,

Sits up on Mama’s lap; with head up right.

Gossamer fabrics, plush and fluffy, hide,

Smooth delicate artistry; babe born, thrives.

Seated in bumbo, gurgling smile, laughs,

Lifted into the air, Dad’s hands girl whirls,

Smooth delicate artistry; babe thrives,

Gossamer fabrics, plush and fluffy, hide.

Time to crawl around, then up on her feet,

Flaxen hair lengthens, tiny teeth start to bite.

Gossamer fabrics, plush and fluffy, hide,

Smooth and delicate artistry; babe thrives.

Independence forms, play-dates, swimming lessons,

Not a baby long; connects with other girls.

Smooth and delicate artistry; babe thrives,

Gossamer fabrics, plush and fluffy, hide.

Away to playschool and kindergarten,

Babe a moment; small girl in Mama’s sight.

Gossamer fabrics, plush and fluffy, hide,

Smooth and delicate artistry; babe thrives.
