Take me down to the places on hidden —

Paths let’s hike; the lush forest has bidden,

That we heed her wild calls exploring.

Let us find all nooks, crannies, and more,

Let’s find the secrets in this forest,

Masked for centuries, deep secrets unknown.

Search for me where rocks pile high, where I’m free.

This landscape has its hardships it’s paths —

Twisted and sometimes steep, but we climb past —

All obstacles, find glorious treasures.

Unafraid in tranquil woods we measure,

Distances by landmarks, certain trees, —

Curved trunks bowing; see nature’s masterpiece.

Hiking as far as we can, giant rocks near,

Hearing the river’s voice trickling clear.

Search for me where rocks pile high, where I’m free.

At night we lie on air mattresses we’re,

Wrapped in sleeping bags, lost in our dreams.

The river’s language a tongue we know,

Then, the sun is high, breakfast made, we go —

To explore our secret, the enchanted world,

Life is short, peaceful quiet it restores.

Search for me where rocks pile high, where I’m free.

I’v never been to Florida. I didn’t think hiking around the condo we rented out would be anything exciting. But I was wrong.

Hiking down the gravel trail with my friend, we ran into some giant alligators lumbering about a waterhole.

“Oh my god,” Patricia said shrieking. “Huge alligators. What do we do? Can we walk around them?”

As if he was listening, one of the alligators crawled over onto the gravel path. Patricia was in hysterics and I wasn’t sure if we should both turn around or try to walk around the alligator on his left side, away from their watering hole on his right.

I picked up a long thick piece of wood, poking the alligator and trying to force him to move right, back to where a couple of his friends sat half in the water.

“Come on guy, that’s it grab the stick.” I muttered.

With his jaws wide and ferocious, the alligator bit the piece of wood and pulled. When he had moved over enough as he pulled on the stick, and the alligator wasn’t in our path anymore, I instinctively let go of the piece of wood.

When I turned around Patricia was no where in sight. I thought she had gone back to the condo.

Then I saw the alligators rolling and twisting, fighting over prey in the water. I felt sick and afraid.

“No it can’t be,” I cried.

I had been outsmarted. While the alligator on the path was distracting me, the others had gone after Patricia. All that was left was a scrap of her pink yoga pants.

Poem: Free Verse – “Just Go”

http://www.blogingleinternational.com

—–

I want to just go,

Travel somewhere,

Where waterfalls splash,

And swimming is the norm.

—–

I want to just go,

See the Duomo in Florence.

Walk the streets of Milan.

See so much art, I’m blinded.

—–

I want to just go,

View waters so blue.

See Coral reefs glow.

Relax in the sand.

—-

I want to just go,

Shop silk scarves, leather shoes,

Barter and buy,

Even though I’ve been taken.

——

I want to just go,

Drink bellinies and Margaritas,

Do a few shots straight tequila,

Sit on the deck, by the pool.

—–

I want to just go,

Hike the trail through fiolage,

Pretend I’ve no allergies,

See the sunset at night.

—–

I want to just go,

But limitations stop me,

Energy and time,

Money and people too.

—–

I want to just go,

Someday I’ll break free.

Thanks to La Duchesse D’erat for the list writing prompt. The Duchess wrote that we should list:

” . . .things we feel like doing in 2016, things that really inspire us, make us smile, giggle. It’s not a resolutions list. No need to feel compelled to realize what you write down, but the simple fact of writing the list may blow some wind under your wings and help you accomplish something new . . .”
