Deck of Scarlet May Palette: Dream, Number 8 #deckofscarlet @deckofscarlet #scarletlooks #beauty #makeup

Credit: Deck of Scarlet

So, a few weeks ago I received my second Deck of Scarlet Palette #8. This one is called the ‘Dream Palette,’ and came with a pretty lip gloss too. Now, I’m on their two-month rotation and won’t receive my next palette until July; but only if I like it ad it’s colors. With this subscription, you always have the option to opt out if you dislike a bi-monthly palette. The website is here http://www.deckofscarlet.com and you can sign up through the link here: Deck of Scarlet bi-monthly Subscription.

I love the portability if these palettes and that you can easily slip them in your purse or in an overnight bag and not have to worry about eyeshadow, blush, highlighter, and lipstick. I love the pink and peachy hues of the Dream Palette. They are so flattering on most any skin tone.

Enchanted is the most beautiful shimmering coral shade for eyeshadow and Myth looks wonderful in your crease, or alone for no-worry eyeshadow. The shade, Crown, is a deep pink, and is pretty in your crease to amp up your look, or too mix with Enchanted and make it more pink . Tiara is a beautiful shade of blush, the most perfect light pink for anyone, and can be worn subtly or more boldly on your cheeks.

The highlighter, Fairy Dust, is a lovely honey-gold shimmer that is subtle. It can be layered for a more intense effect, but works well on your cheekbones, brow bone, nose, and inside corner of your eyes. Both the blush and highlighter are easily usable with other eyeshadows you own. The Fairy Dust highlighter is beautiful on your eyelids with Myth in your crease for minimal eye makeup with a touch of summer shimmer.

Above, you can see the entire palette, including two lipstick shades. Kiss is the perfect nude shade with a bit more pink in it then my last palette’s brown-nude shade. It mixes well with the deep pink shade called Maiden, for an enhanced pink-nude or you can blend the two colors to the intensity you desire.

A deeper lipstick shade Maiden or Maiden with a touch of Kiss is awesome for nighttime events or if you want make your lips pop and keep the rest of your makeup toned down in the office or out and about. One vital point, these two lip shades are not moisturizing as the lipsticks in my first Deck of Scarlet palette, so put gloss on your lips before applying the lipstick. Let it sick-in while you do the rest of your face.

Lips are given a great deal of attention in the Dream palette. For this reason, the boxes extra for the Dream palette #8 this month was this gorgeous shimmer-nude/pinklipgloss called Love Spell. It mimics the sheen of the Enchanted eyeshadow, although, much less intense and more pink.

Put it over top the nude lipstick color Kiss or over your bold lipstick shade of Maiden for a luminous lipstick look. Or, wear the lipgloss colour of Love Spell alone for a nude-pink lip with sheen. The gloss has more moisture than the lipsticks, but I’d still let a lip balm sink into your lips first.

Here’s the pretty packaging of the May Deck of Scarlet Palette #8, so you have good idea of how portable the palette is. Again, the pigment in the palette was excellent, and stays on well throughout the day. It’s easy to carry with you for touch ups.

Around my eyes I tight-lined inside my upper and lower water lines with black (dark brown) and then put a thin line of smudge pot or gel waterproof black (or dark brown) liner along my eyelashes. I blended this second line into my eyelashes with a tiny eyeshadow brush.

In case pink or coral is not so much your color, the liner prevents your eyes from appearing sickly, if the shades are not quite your skin tone colors. What I love about the Deck of Scarlet Palette’s is that anyone can wear these colors in the right way. The tutorials by other bloggers are so helpful for this.

Kim Thai is the Instagram/Blogger who designed the Deck of Scarlet May #8 palette and as last time, I’m posting tutorials below. To note, as before, Deck of Scarlet Palettes are Natural and Cruelty Free.

Beauty: Deck of Scarlet Makeup Palette @deckofscarlet #scarletlooks #beauty #makeup

Happy Monday, again! I hope you’re enjoying spring wherever you are in the world, although, that might mean fall or Autumn in some places of the world!

I came across a cool beauty subscription on Instagram called Deck of Scarlet . You can sign up on the website, if you think it’s something you would love and use. The price of signing up for the subscription is worth it. Most makeup palettes of this quality are so much more money.

Deck of Scarlet’s makeup quality is amazing, vegan, cruelty free, and all those wonderful things that mean the makeup is organic, natural, and better for your skin. I love that this subscription is a palette and not separate beauty products alone.

When you can find makeup that also has excellent pigment and provides you an entire makeup look, or series of looks, in one palette of eyeshadow, blush, highlighter, lip color, and eyeliner and lip liner, as part of the package — this is a smart conceptan excellent makeup subscription service.

Lip Liner

Eyeliner

Not only do subscribers receive a new ‘look’ or possibilities of looks, to play withevery two-months, but they have the choice to skip a month, if they don’t like the palette. If you don’t like it, you skip and don’t pay anything.

The only downside for some people, is remembering to click into the email or visit the site and skip a palette, if you wish. But actually, June’s palette is pretty awesome too. This makeup palette’s from April and contains “exotic . . . Bora Bora hues.”

The other neat thing about this subscription is the makeup tutorials provided by the bloggers who joined up to create these high-quality and on-trend looks for subscribers bi-monthly. The tutorials are what hooked me, I couldn’t get the same look with what I had at home.

The quality of The Deck of Scarlett Palette’s is what will keep me purchasing makeup palette’s every two months, should most of the palette colors be ones that I can use; and should the tutorials remain relevant to me.

Also, if your vacationing somewhere, this is the perfect low-maintenance and space-saving makeup palette to bring with you for an easy everyday and evening look all in one. Add some mascara, CC cream, and concealer and your set.

Eyeshadows (on top) – Starry Eyed, Bora Bora, and Bronzed.

Highlighter/Eyeshadow – Roxstar

Blush – Lovesick

If you want a bit more makeup or your skin tone is more fair, black eyeliner to tight-line on your upper water-line, and a bit of pink-lipstick and (or) gloss, to mix with either lip shape provide is great.

Lip colors– Smooch and Swept Away

P.S. This isn’t a paid promotion, I just love the Deck of Scarlet palettes. They are seriously amazing!

SPRING BEAUTY HAUL: MAY/JUNE 2017 – #amwriting #beauty #nonfiction

Welcome to another Beauty Haul. Excuse the lateness of this spring one as is almost summer, but I have some great products for the Summer Haul ready as well. For now, enjoy the products I have tried and am still using from the Spring season.

  1. MAC Powder Blush in Peony Petal (Bright Blue Pink: Satin Finish) – http://www.maccosmetics.ca – $27.00 CAN
File 2017-06-05, 11 47 48 AM
Credit: MAC Cosmetics Powder Blush – Peony Petal

It has truthfully been a while since I have purchased MAC cosmetics, since my last post on them years ago, trying their foundations that didn’t seem to work for me. Nevertheless, I have always loved their eyeshadows and blushes and found MAC’s¬†pigmentation to be excellent in all their makeup products. Since mid-winter I have been looking for a bubble gum pink shade but with cool undertones, not warm ones and it has been difficult if not impossible to find a blush in this shade that wasn’t too expensive, or so inexpensive the pigment and quality wasn’t nice. Now that it is summer, I do see shades similar to MAC one I purchased available in several brands but the MAC powder blush is wonderful, it feels nice, and I love the satin finish. MAC has a huge variety of shades to choose from and their products are actually on the more inexpensive side of more expensive makeups. I ordered off the Canadian MAC cosmetics site for this blush and adore the color. It gives me healthy flush and glow that isn’t too intense. I have had no skin issues with the new blush and would buy more MAC blushes in the future. There are 43 shades in this range of MAC Powder blush¬†for you to choose from so, enjoy! Five stars out of five for this product

2. MAC Velvet Tease Thick Lip Pencil (Light Pink: Matte Finish) – http://www.maccosmetics.ca – $15.00 CAN

To be truthful, I have been searching for a lipstick in this Light Pink shade, much longer than I have

MAC - Velvet Tease Lip Pencil Tease Me
MAC Cosmetics – Velvet Tease Lip Pencil (Tease Me) -$17.00 CAN

been searching for the blush (written about above). I must have been searching practically a year because I found a similar shade in InStyle magazine and had to have it, I see other brands besides MAC, now carrying this shade or colors near this shade in Sephora and other makeup stores. Beyond the light pink¬†color, I enjoy that this was a fatter lip pencil from MAC that I can line my lips with and then fill them in with this pencil, all using one pencil not an additional lipliner. The MAC fat lip pencil feels smooth and lovely on my lips and even though I do have to apply a few coats, I love the color. A long with the price point, this was a steal! Sadly, I cannot seem to find it online on MAC cosmetics in Canada anymore but it might be a product still available in the U.S. or in store. Before applying the product I make sure to apply a thin gloss or lip balm before to moisturize my lips because this product does not moisturize one’s lips or go on well on dry lips. I also enjoy making my lips a bit shinier instead of having the matte finish of the fat lip pencil. The pencil did come in several other colors, not a huge amount, but eight or ten. I love how well the blush and the lip pencil match. The lip light pink¬†pencil is slighter lighter but it has the same cool undertones as the MAC powder blush so it works well for me. I’d give it four stars out of five.

3. Bourjois Paris: Little Round Pot Eyeshadow in Generose (Shimmery nude – Intense Color – Longwear 12 hours) -www.beautyboutique.ca- $17.00 CAN

Bourjois Open Little Pot Eyeshadow Generose
Bourjois Open Little Pot Eyeshadow (Genrose) –

A product I always run out of and always use is an eyeshadow that is nude or the color of your own skin tone. This can be put over primer on your eyelids and creates a great base to blend other eyeshadow colors into. Because you have chosen a nude or skin color shade, any color of eyeshadow will blend with this color. I used to buy the nude color in a matte eyeshadow but recently found after using a similar color from NARS’s eyeshadow line with a sheen, that I enjoyed this sheen and I found the perfect one from Bourjois Paris¬†in Genrose for only $17.00 as opposed to almost $40.00 for the NARS eyeshadow. If I only wanted to wear Generose, with my contour shade in my crease, the eyeshadow appeared wonderful, especially gleaming in the light; however, if a person wished to apply a more intense eyeshadow look overtop, this nude eyeshadow is great because it provides a sheen of light and sparkle underneath other eyeshadows, some that were even matte. The sheen is by no means overpowering, it only adds ‘a little something’ extra your usual eyeshadow look. I loved the feel of Generose by Bourjois,¬†it was smooth and I was pleased it lasted 12 hours as advertised. I completely recommend this product, the quality, pigment, sheen, and price point are excellent. My only complaint is that the eyeshadow did not last long. I have had other eyeshadows last for three months or more. This one barely lasted a month and a half, so four out of five stars.¬†

4. Clarins Eyebrow Pencil (Soft Blonde with Spooley) -www.beautyboutique.ca Р$27.00  CAN

The hunt for the perfect eyebrow pencil continues. Since my old BENEFIT pencil no

Clarin's Eyebrow Pencil - Soft Blonde
Clarins Eyebrow Pencil (Soft Blonde) – $27.00

longer exists in the same form. I have been trying various brands of eye pencils that are slightly harder as they last longer and have better pigment. For some reason, there needs to be a perfect balance in the hardness and softness of a pencil. As well, I was using points on Beauty Boutique online and this appeared to be one of the best eyebrow pencils in terms of quality and shade. I have tried some Clarin’s products but not many and was pleasantly surprised this pencil lasted three months. Even when I had sharpened it a lot and though it was becoming too short it still lasted another month after shaping and filling in my brows most days. I recommend BENEFIT’s volumizing gel to go over the top¬†of your brows once they are filled in as this makes your eyebrows appear fuller. My only complaints with this pencil¬†are that it was too hard for a brow pencil and the color available for blonds was too warm for my skin tone. The volumizing eyebrow gel helped to make the color ashier but when I look back in pictures where I am using this color, I can see it isn’t the right color for me. Overall a good brow pencil with three and a half stars out of five.¬†

5. The Beauty Crop: Lighting Crew Highlighting Creamhttp://www.thebeautycrop.com- $16.00 CAN

Beauty Crop Lighting Crew Highlighting Cream
The Beauty Crop: Lighting Crew – Highlighting Cream – $15.00

I received this excellent highlighter sample in my Luxebox for winter. I wasn’t expecting much but once I tried the product I loved it. Not only is it a natural and vegan product but it provides a wonderful sheen or highlight to areas of your face in a subtle way. Often I find cream products can make my skin break out after everyday use but not so with this cream highlighter. The highlighter comes out of a tube as a liquid and is a light bronzy color. It¬†appears as if t might be too dark for some skin tones or too light for others but since using it, I think it could be used by anyone as the sheen in the product has an effect, not the color of the highlighter itself. I use it for everyday makeup when I’m doing usual activities. I put it on my brow bone, the corner of my eye, on my cheekbones, and on the bridge and tip of my nose. The subtle sheen is perfect and a little product, a dime sized amount, goes a long way and brings light to the high points of your face. A wonderful product and it’s always a good thing when products you didn’t think will be a good product, turn out to be awesome.¬†Five out of five stars for this highlighter.¬†

6. e.l.f. Rose Gold Eyeshadow Palette (matte finish & nude/brown colors) -www.elfcosmetics.com -$10.00 U.S.

I am a Pinterest pinner and I often pin beauty ideas and products on Pinterest. You can find me

ELF Matte nude and brown Eyeshadow palette
e.l.f. Matte Rose Gold Eyeshadow Palette (nude/brown colors) Р$10.00 U.S.

@mandibelle16 on Pinterest. I often see product charts comparing low-end and high-end¬†beauty products on Pinterest. I see e.l.f. makeup which is Target’s brand of makeup, compared to more expensive makeup such as NARS and Urban Decay. I decided to test this and purchased less than $30.00 worth of e.l.f. products online as it is actually even cheaper to buy e.l.f online than at Walmart in Canada. Out of the four of five items, I purchased, this eyeshadow palette was my best purchase, one that I use a few times a week. I find with e.l.f eyeshadow, as long as a person uses a good primer underneath on your eyelids, the eyeshadow is fantastic and, supposedly, mineral based. Plus, most eyeshadow palette’s of this same price point are not nearly as good in pigment or quality. Instead of buying an Urban Decay palette with similar shades, I bought this e.l.f one for $10.00 U.S or about $12.50 CAN and either way its a fantastic deal. The colors are great and look good on everyone and the basic’s palette as more colors than in the basic Urban Decay palette. I love the skin tone colors as there are three of them and they are light enough to look good on practically every skin tone. The addition of gray shades at the end of the palette is something I liked as well. With e.l.f. eyeshadow palettes,¬†I have found this one¬†lasted over six months. Check-out e.l.f cosmetics online for other great eyeshadow palettes, just remember to wear a good primer underneath. The shadows go on well, smooth, and has good pigment. My only complaint is there is a more fallout from this kit as opposed to more expensive palettes, but saving nearly $30.00 makes up for this complaint. Five out of Five stars

7. e.l.f. Baked Highlighter (Pink Diamonds ) – http://www.elfcosmetics.com – $4.00 U.S.

ELF Bake highlighter in Pink Diamonds
e.l.f. Baked Highlighter (Pink Diamonds) – $4.00 U.S.

My second best e.l.f cosmetics purchase¬†was this baked highlighter in¬†the color Pink Diamonds. E.l.f has a few different shades you can choose from in these highlighters such as a couple of them that are more bronzy and one that is white and sparkly. I wanted the white one too but they were out of stock so I chose this shade. You cannot lose for $4.00 U.S. I love the shade it’s light pink so is also a more natural appearing highlighter for every day. It can even be used as an eyeshadow and stands up well as a longer-lasting eyeshadow if you wear a good primer underneath. Just a note, the e.l.f. brand eye primer is absolute junk and not even worth the $2.00 or $3.00 dollars I wasted on it. I threw it out after two weeks trying to make it work. So use your regular face primer on your eyes or choose a dependable and reliable eye primer for your eyelids and area such as Urban Decay, Benefit, Anastasia, (etc). Eye primer always lasts a long time (like 6 months) and are a product worth the splurge. Back to the Baked Highlighter, it was an excellent purchase and I would like to try the other shades available in the brand. My only issue with this product (as there is always at least one) is that it isn’t long lasting. If you apply the highlighter in the morning you are going to have to reapply later in the day even if you have a face primer or long lasting foundation on. Setting spray does help keep any makeup products last longer and can be found in brands such as NYX and Urban Decay. Both brands are different price points and both work well for matte or glowing skin.

8. Model Co. B.B. Cream: Daily All in One Skin Perfector (Broad Spectrum SPF 30 in Light) Рhttp://www.modelcocosmetics.com Р$24.00 AUSTRALIAN

This is another product from Luxebox. I put it on my hand and promptly put it back in

ModelCo BB Cream in Light (True Pic)
Model Co. B.B. Cream Daily All in One Skin Perfector (Broad Spectrum and SPF 30, Light)

my makeup sample bags as the color appeared too orange on my hand for pale skin. The foundation I use is by Urban Decay and I love it because it lasts a long time, is waterproof, covers extremely well, yet feels light. But it is still heavier feeling than a C.C. Cream or a B.B. Cream. I have never been a huge fan of B.B. Creams except for one by Bobbie Brown, but my skin does not need the extra moisturizer these B.B. Creams provide. One day I ran out of my Urban Decay foundation as my replacement was in the mail, and I used this B.B. Cream for a few days. The color on my face was actually perfect, even in daylight. It was not orange as I thought the color would be. It was very light coverage so that even with a good concealer I wasn’t all that happy with it, but at least I was wearing something. When the weather was colder I wore it around the house and it helped when my skin was drier. It’s an okay B.B. Cream but it your skin is normal or oilier I would go with a C.C. Cream as they have more coverage and often that coverage is matte. I probably would not purchase this product as it can only be found in Australia and I was not that impressed overall. Two and a half stars out of five.

Beauty Haul – Part 2 – June 2016

This is the second part of my beauty haul from February to the present month of June. Part 1 was only on products used on the eyes and can be found here.

For this post, I will only be focusing on makeup and products used on your face, excluding your eyes. As per usual, I buy my makeup from a variety of stores including The Bay, Sephora, and Shoppers Drug Mart online, but I will be searching for the items and providing you links to Sephora whenever I can because they carry the majority of the products I buy.

1. NARS blush in Orgasm – (www.sephora.ca) – $38.00 CAN – This blush is one of my all

Beauty - NARS Blush in Orgasm
NARS blush Orgasm (www.sephora.ca) $38.00 CAN
time favourite blush colours. Not only mine, but beauty product lovers and makeup artists alike. The color Orgasm is described as a “peachy pink with shimmer.” It is one of the only blush colours which can be worn by anyone, no matter their skin tone. Although, my skin is pale and I often tend towards colours which are pink or purple, this colour is perfect for me as well because of the pink tone in it; however, if you have skin which has more yellow undertones, the peachiness of Orgasm will also appear beautiful on you.

Another aspect I love about NARS blush is that it lasts forever. Yes, $38.00 CAN may seem expensive to spend on one blush, but this blush will last you years and works well with many other makeup colours. I had a smaller container of the Orgasm blush I used up before I repurchased the Orgasm blush, and the smaller container lasted about four-years and I wore it two or three times a week.

As well, with many NARS products, the pigment of Orgasm is fantastic. If you’ve lighter toned skin, I caution you to be careful when you apply NARS blushes, including Orgasm because it is extremely easy to apply too much blush at once; you want your blush to appear like a natural flush. I hope you like this colour and will have a look at Sephora online or in-store, at some of the other colours available in NARS blushes. There are many pretty blush shades all with excellent pigment concentration.

Since the Orgasm colour is so popular for NARS, it is one of ten colours you can buy in a cream to powder blush as well as in the powder form. I have also seen the colour in a luminosity highlighter you can add to your foundation to receive a more dewy appearance in summer time.

2. BENEFIT Girl Meets Pearl – Liquid Pearl for Face – (www.sephora.ca) – $39.00 CAN

I purchased Girl Meets Pearl, a year or two ago. I bought it because I thought it would

MAKEUP - BENEFIT Girl Meets Pearl
BENEFIT – Girl Meets Pearl Highlighter – $39.00 CAN (www.sephora.ca)
be a superb natural highlighter for your cheekbones or brow bones, but the consistency of the highlighter was too liquid and I didn’t achieve the look I was hoping to get.

However, this summer I was searching for a luminizing highlighter which is glowy and shimmery, to add to my matte MAKE UP FOREVER foundation;  it gives more of a summery glow to your makeup. I didn’t want to switch foundations and end up breaking-out or having my skin appear too oily.

I apply Girl Meets Pearl after I apply my foundation. I put a bit of Girl Meets Pearl on the top of my hand and take my foundation brush and blend Girl Meets Pearl into my foundation on my face. The results, are fantastic.

Girl Meets Pearl is the perfect “pearly golden pink” for many skin tones and it lightens the heaviness of a more matte foundation, without making your skin oily. It provides a subtle sheen. I’m extremely happy with this product now and I wasn’t when I bought it originally. But, for mixing with your foundation Girl Meets Pearl is the best highlighter product.

As well, Girl Meets Pearl has chamomile and sweet almond seed extract in it so it improves the appearance of skin’s “firmness” and “smoothness.” I also want to mention, I have tried to use this product on several other occasions, so it has lasted well and I think is good value for your money for this type of highlighter.

3. SEPHORA Radiant Luminizing Drops in Starlight – (www.sephora.ca) – $19.00 CAN

Beauty - SEPHORA - Radiant Luminizing Drops in Starlight
Sephora Luminizing Drops in Starlight – $19.00 CAN – (www.sephora.ca)
This product was supposed to do what the BENEFIT’s Girl Meets Pearl does; however, I didn’t realize I had a product which already worked well as a luminizing highlighter to add to my foundation.

When I was at Sephora, I chose this product which is Sephora’s own makeup brand. I have not tried too much of Sephora’s makeup brand but the price was right and I liked the pink colour of the Luminizing Drops. You can also buy them in Ultra Light – Bronze, or Morning Light – Champagne.

I have tried the Luminizing Drops a few times, but compared to the BENEFIT Girl Meets Pearl, it doesn’t do justice to it’s proclaimed ‘luminizing’ effects. You’re only supposed to put a drop or two of the Luminizing Drops mixed with your foundation. This did nothing for me because you couldn’t tell my skin appeared any different than if I had only worn my foundation alone. Adding more drops helped, but it was difficult to do using the dropper in the Luminizing Drops. It’s difficult to get the product out of the container at all.

Maybe, it’s me? I can be mechanically challenged at times, but I’m not impressed with the dropper Sephora used in this product; it isn’t great. I think in this case, you get what you pay for. I cheaped-out, instead of buying a more expensive NARS Luminizing Highlighter (which I mentioned in the NARS blush review above), in the colour Orgasm.

I didn’t end up needing to buy a luminizer at all, but at least had I bought the NARS luminizer, I would have used it all up. I’m disappointed with the SEPHORA Luminizing Drops.

4. URBAN DECAY – De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray -Oil Free – (www.sephora.ca) – $38.00 CAN (4 0z) or $17.00 (1 oz) Of all the makeup products I have purchased lately,

Beauty - URBAN DECAY - De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray Oil - Control
URBAN DECAY Makeup Setting Spray Oil-Control (4 oz) $39.00 CAN (1 oz) $17.00 CAN (www.sephora.ca)
this one is nearly, the absolute best. I’ve watched many You Tube Makeup Tutorials and many women say using a Makeup Setting Spray so their makeup doesn’t rub off, and stays in place, throughout the day or night helps the duration of their makeup. You can also use the Makeup Setting Spray to keep your skin from appearing oily.

This product is everything it promises to be. It keeps your makeup in place by using a technology which “lowers the temperature of your makeup” so it doesn’t rub-off. One reason I know it stays in place: If I go to take a small afternoon nap, my makeup remains on my face and doesn’t end up all over my white pillow case.

Also, because I want my face to appear ‘glowy’ and ‘luminous’ in the summer, not greasy and oily, the Makeup Setting Spray is exceptional at helping my face not appear as if I’m sweating my makeup off.

I only picked up the 1 oz size on my way to pay for other Sephora products and I have found the product to be a game-changer in my makeup routine. As vital as having the right primer for your makeup can be when you want your makeup to last long, I think the the Makeup Setting Spray is an even better purchase, especially if your skin is oily.

I use the Makeup Setting Spray every day and I don’t break out from it either. If you are searching for a cheaper option, I have seen but not tried, NYC makeup in the drugstore, has their own version of URBAN DECAYS Makeup Setting Spray. If you have tried it, let me know how it works.

5. LIPPYGIRL Vegocentric Lipstick in p-Bomb – (www.lippygirl.com) – $23.00 CAN

Beauty - Lippygirl Vegocentric Lipstick in p-Bomb
LippyGirl Lipstick in p-Bomb -$23.00 – (www.lippygirl.com)
I received this lipstick in a Luxebox a couple of boxes ago. I’m so pleased with the colour and how well it stays on your lips, through out the day. LIPPYGIRL lipsticks make your lips feel extremely soft and smooth after applying it.

P-Bomb is a  glimmery lipstick in a bright pink but the lipstick colour is not a pink so bright it is blinding or too bold for the day time. P-Bomb’s perfect to finish off a subtle makeup look and I love it for summer and every season of the year.

As well, LIPPYGIRL lipstick is Vegocentric. If you’re a Vegan or someone seeking to use makeup which is naturally based, this is a great lipstick and website for you to check-out.

LIPPYGIRL has many more lipstick shades as well as other makeup products for your eyes, lips, and face. I also get the impression from their website, they’re a Canadian company which I like a great deal. It’s important to support our economy and local businesses in Canada.

6. PHYSICANS FORMULA Palette Mineral Glow Pearls in Translucent – (www.ulta.ca) – $13.99 US I was stoked to find this product in Winners in

Beauty - PHYSCIANS FORMULA Transclucent Highlighter
PHYSICIANS FORMULA Palette Mineral Glow Pearls – $13.99 US – (www.ulta.com)
Canada. It was on sale for about $5.99 so I paid much less than the listed US price. I couldn’t find the product online in Canada but I’m certain if they carry it at ULTA in the US, you can find it at Shoppers Drug Mart here. I usually am pretty careful I don’t buy too cheap of makeup because it has a greater tendency to make me break-out. However, I have used PHYSICIANS FORMULA before and I know it’s a mineral based makeup which is better for your skin. The value for the quality of product is awesome with this drugstore brand.

I bought Mineral Glow Pearls because the highlighter I have at home, is too intense for day time wear. I only need something that is going to give a little glow to my cheek bones, brow bones, the tip of my nose, and cupids bow of my lip. The pigment of the Mineral Glow Pearls is only a touch luminizing when used alone, or to contour your face, for every day makeup at work or wherever. This highlighter appears more natural than my beloved Candle Light Highlighter by TWO FACED. But I prefer the TWO FACED highlighter when I’m going out with the girls or am out at night.

I’m extremely happy with Mineral Glow Pearls and highly recommend the PHYSCIANS FORMULA brand if you want makeup that won’t make you break-out, is mineral, a cheaper price point, and comes in many shades and colours appropriate for various skin tones. I bought the Mineral Glow Pearls in the colour Translucent as I am fair skinned but ULTA also showed the same product available in the colours Beige, Light Bronze, and Bronze.

7. LUSH – Mask of Magnaminty – (www.lush.ca) – (125g) $13.95 – (315g) $25.95

Beauty - LUSH Mask of Magnaminty
LUSH Mask of Magnaminty – (125g) $13.95 CAN; (315g) $25.95 (www.lush.ca)
Everyone hates being an adult and still having to deal with acne. For me, my skin is pretty well-behaved except for twice a year when hot weather comes in the summer time and when winter weather comes in the fall. My skin tends to break out worse than it does any other time, once or twice, before becoming used to the change in weather.

I love LUSH products and they have been so helpful in my beauty routine. On the LUSH online website they say Mask of Magnaminty is technically a “daily facial wash” but it’s main purpose is “deep-cleaning” for the face and body.

As we have been experiencing warmer weather, my skin began to break-out, so I started using the Mask of Magnaminty every two-days. It completely calmed my skin down and the breakouts have gone away. When I’m not having any acne at all, I have switched to using the Mask of Magnaminty once a week. But if I have a bit of acne, I will use the mask every two-days until my acne clears. A person could use the Mask of Magnaminty every day, but for me, I find it drys my skin out if I overuse it.

The mask contains “aduki beans” to exfoliate skin, vanilla to “calm redness,” and honey “to smooth.” As well, their is indeed ‘mint’ in the Mask of Magnaminty which I adore because it provides your skin with this clean tingly feeling after you’ve washed off the mask.

Mask of Magnaminty is a wonderful product, as many LUSH products are. I think it will replace my LUSH Chocolate mask, which has been my go-to for breakouts and weekly skin maintenance. I also find this new mask lasts a long time. I have had the product for over a month now, and have used a quarter of the 125g container mostly applying it every two-days.

I wish I had the Mask of Magnaminty when I was in high school; my skin would have been much nicer. If you know any body struggling, this a fantastic mask. I can’t believe how smooth my skin feels after using it.

Thanks for reading my beauty product reviews!

14. For how to do your hair like mine please see this tutorial by Kate from The Small Things Blog here and here. Her’s looks a bit nicer and has better pictures. I used a ProBaby bliss to curl my hair which is easier for me then a curling rod to use. It essentially sucks in a section of hair you have combed out. When it beeps you can let go of your hair for a softer curl or hold it longer for more bouncier curls.

Naturally Beautiful or the Makeup Queen

p_best_mineral_makeup_lWhen I first started wearing makeup, actual foundation and concealer, in grade 8, I was extremely excited. Then high school came about and my skin didn’t keep that perfect youthful dewy glow when it began to break out and leave behind red marks because my skin was so fair. Ever since high school, I have wished for skin like those women who have perfect skin without having to wear makeup. For the majority of women, if we don’t wear makeup people start wondering whether we are sick or having an off day.

Strangely enough, men say they prefer women who wear little or no makeup but they would especially say their girlfriends or wives are sick if they did not wear makeup. I don’t mean a ton of makeup, such as the kind guys feel should be reserved for special occasions, I’m talking about natural looking makeup — a little mascara, shadow, light foundation and/or concealer. But most men don’t realize how much makeup actually goes into looking natural for many women.

Presently, one of the biggest posts for women to do on Facebook is the no makeup selfie. I have noticed some women look

www.captureyournite.com
http://www.captureyournite.com

absolutely gorgeous in their selfie while others like myself had a bit of redness or marks that needed covering up. It is a hard thing to post a makeupless selfie if you are used to wearing makeup. Specifically, if you like wearing makeup and feel that you with makeup on is your most natural self. Good for all you ladies who posted your selfies but I kind of felt ashamed that I was scared to put my makeupless self on Facebook because I love makeup. To me it’s like painting, it’s an art. And although I tread on the side of natural looking makeup, I love the experience of getting ready for an event and wearing primer, highlighter, bronzer, and a smokey eye because I love how that looks; it looks artful and glamorous if done well. Sometimes if I’m just home by myself I’ll wear fancy makeup anyways just for the chance to do it.

My favourite tutorials for makeup are Pixiewoo on Youtube and I have learned a ton about how to blend and wear makeup from Pixiewoos so I recommend that channel. But at certain times I just like to play with my makeup at my own discretion but even I have my limits where makeup is concerned.

For instance, I have darker brows even though I’m blond blond and I don’t see a reason to use brow pencils or gels. I also do not feel I need fake lashes I have thick lashes naturally. The only time I would consider these things would be at photo shoot or a super special event such as my wedding or graduation. I also don’t wear great amounts of darker or bright lipstick or any lipstick at all. I like lip balms and glosses and only started wearing lipstick when I needed a shade of red for a 40’s Stagette. So, I have 3 lipsticks in all that I wear and only one of them is bright, it’s the red one.

makeupI guess what I’m trying to get at is that unless you are a girl whose caking on the makeup, wear makeup how you want, no matter what Facebook is encouraging or what guys think about makeup. If you like to wear a little less makeup then some women, wear less. If you like to wear a bit more makeup, wear more. There should be no shame in enhancing our facial features if we make the choice too. And if it’s fun for us to do this, all the better reason to wear or not wear makeup. Choice in anything, in any art form, is key.

There is so much makeup out there and so many opinions on what looks good and that it can be hard to receive the look you want. My best advice is to go to Sephora, the Bay, or Shoppers Drug Mart and have a beautician do a makeup look on you that want and that suites you. Also, watch videos such as Pixiewoo on YouTube but understand that there are different occasions for various makeup looks just as there are different occasions for having various pieces of clothing to wear. Most of all, just enjoy your beauty routine be it simple or complicated. And don’t be ashamed of having not so perfect skin, most of us are not that blessed as perfect beauties. We need a little help to enhance our appearance.

Benefit Watt’s Up Highlighter & BAD gal Mascara/ Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette Reviews

1. Benefit Watt’s Up – Soft Focus Highlighter for Face – ($36.00) – I purchased this highlighter after buying Benefits¬†Girl Meets Pearl highlighter and not being that impressed with how much the highlighter appearred on my face. I found the liquid to be roughly the same color as my foundation so it didn’t end up being the best product for me although I still use it when I want a more subtle highlight. On the other hand, Watt’s Up is great and a fantastic highlighter! It comes in a cute purple container with a sponge tip at one end to spread the highlighter out when you apply it to your cheek bones, forehead, nose, cupid’s bow, and middle of your chin. On the other end of the highlighter is a cream to powder highlighter that makes the areas you put it on look shiny and glimmery. It is a fantastic wonderful highlighter and I am highly impressed by this product as I have used many highlighter products and not been that happy with many, especially on my lighter skin. It is perfect for sculpting the face in a soft “champagne glow” and because all Benefit makeup products are mineral makeup products Watt’s Up¬†is good for your skin and won’t cause it to break out or clog pores. The only thing you have to be careful ¬†about is that you don’t apply too much highlighter and that you blend well. While¬†Girl Meets Pearl¬† is on one end of ¬†the highlighter spectrum as being a very weak highlighter,¬†Watt’s Up¬†is at the other end of the spectrum as a very potent highlighter.

Benefit BAD gal Waterproof Mascara –¬†($26.00) – Benefit’s¬†BAD gal Waterproof Mascara is a¬†“smudge proof, a waterproof, and a

tear proof” mascara. After trying Benefits¬†They’re Real¬†Mascara I was looking for a Mascara that was as voluminous as it was¬†¬†but didn’t come off on my eye area, particularly under eye area, as much because my skin is oilier. I am not 100 percent sold on this Mascara either. It’s good but it doesn’t provide enough volume to your lashes. Although, it is waterproof and does not come off nearly as much as They’re Real Mascara it still tends to come off on my eye area and because it is waterproof it is difficult to get off your skin even if you dab it with a Q-tip fast. So this mascara is ‘so so’ but I am still liking my Clinique¬†Lash Power Mascara Long Wearing Formula¬†($19.00) more because it comes off easier at night but not in the day compared to the ¬†waterproof mascara and ,therefore, is easier on your eye lashes which can take up to 6 months to grow if you lose a few. I am still searching for that perfect mascara, I will have to try a different kind next time I need mascara.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Eye Shadow Palette –¬†($62.00)¬†This palette features a dozen taupe and grey-beige neutral eye shadows. I love Urban Decay’s¬†Naked Palette but after using most of the matte shadow in the eye shadow compact up I wanted to try the¬†Naked 2 as it had more similar colors and some that were sparkly. I can do my usual¬†Naked¬† eye shadow mixes on my eyes or I can jazz it up with whatever sparkly or different shading shade I want to use. I love it! The variety of colors available are great and it comes with a decent 2-ended eye shadow brush. My favorite neutral colors are ¬†Bootycall, Verve, Pistol, Busted. and Half-Baked. I also continue to use what little color I have left in my¬†Naked¬†palette with the colors in¬†Naked 2.¬†Although, it is a bit pricey it is well worth the price for these excellent pigment rich eye shadows that can be worn to work, school, or going out, depending on how you choose to do your eye makeup. For instance, Pistol, would make a great grey-tinged sparkly smokey eye. While Bootycall is the perfect pinkish color to put all over your eyelid in the day create a great subtle pink-nude shimmer.
