There’s something about love decidedly,

Painful, heart twisting, leaving jagged lines.

While once you functioned on your straight path,

You struggle to be separated, unclasped,

From your lover caught such sweet endorphins,

Feel good moments together, love morphed.

Love breaks your bones with laughter and rich mirth.

There are times you beg to be left alone,

Marking out your space, a millisecond —

Of time to yourself wished, without cleaning,

Tidying up the mess, dealing with mean,

Gestures of agonized perfection you’ll,

Never live up to, with nagging so cruel.

If only it was easier to both be,

More easy going, he and you pleased.

Love breaks your bones with laughter and rich mirth.

Back under the covers hide you both,

Yourselves, to frantic lovers never clothed.

When you can forget your petty squabbles,

When skin and touch are both arrows,

To passion and renewal, to time spent,

Lounging and loving close, you both relent.

Love breaks your bones with laughter and rich mirth.

Music Prompt # 8: Poem – Blitz – ” Real Violent Ocean” based off of “Calm Before the Storm” by Sarah Ross #amwriting #poetry #musiccprompt

Thanks to MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting last Friday’s music challenge. It was based on the song ” Calm Before the Storm” by Sarah Ross.

——-

——

Calm Before the Storm” – Sarah Ross

——-

Calm before the storm

Calm perceived, not real

Real quiet, crows flying

Real quiet, eerie silence

Silence is all you deserve

Silence before your fall

Fall from saving grace

Fall from your glories

Glories were lies

Glories were false promises

Promises fade, are taken away

Promise, the storm will be fierce

Fierce as the rain drowning your voice

Fierce as the thunder screaming

Screaming across the darkest skies

Screaming as lightening fires

Fires and hits you, sparks

Fires right between your eyes, terrified

Terrified of the calm before the storm

Terrified when I warned —

Warned you little boy

Warned you as clouds turned grey, too late —

Too late to hold your breath

Too late as water cleanses, drowns

Drowns your pleading voice

Drowns her cursed moans that flew

Flew freely, you cannot hide

Flew undisguised, I heard surprised?

Surprised the worst ain’t happened yet

Surprised the storm intensifies

Intensifies my thirst for revenge,

Intensifies my grief, you only see

See the calm before the storm

See the sky ominous red

Red as rage, passion emblazed
Red as my ripped apart heart

Heart of the storm rises

Heart of mine wishes you gone

Gone your presence

Gone, don’t let your presence be prolonged

Prolongs my misery

Prolongs, such hatred brewing

Brewing tornado in your trailer park

Brewing in the marsh, a wild storm

Storms create, deep dank of cruel life

Storms erupt in my tranquil ocean.

Ocean forms my monstrous storm,

Life, you paid the price in my maelstrom.

The Blitz Poem:

This form of poetry is a stream of short phrases and images with repetition and rapid flow.
Begin with one short phrase, it can be a cliché. Begin the next line with another phrase that begins with the same first word as line 1. The first 48 lines should be short, but at least two words.
The third and fourth lines are phrases that begin with the last word of the 2nd phrase, the 5th and 6th lines begin with the last word of the 4th line, and so on, continuing, with each subsequent pair beginning with the last word of the line above them, which establishes a pattern of repetition.
Continue for 48 total lines with this pattern. The last two lines repeat the last word of line 48, then the last word of line 47.

The title must be only three words, with some sort of preposition or conjunction joining the first word from the third line to the first word from the 47th line, in that order.

——-

Under her mask, she’ll hide behind it,

You’ll never hear the truth.

There are legends inside her,

But the truth can be a terrible thing.

Let her hide behind her mask in her makeup,

Let her be free.

*****

Because we all hide behind faces that aren’t really ours,

And oh baby, you’ll see, you’ll see

That the person who’s wearing a mask isn’t just her,

It’s you and me too.

Under her mask, she’ll hide behind it,

Reveal yourself first, you first.

——

Under your mask, you’ll hide behind it,

She’ll never see the truth.

You have treasure buried deep down,

In your keep, it’s a difficult truth.

She’ll let you hide behind your mask unshaven,

She’ll let you be free.

*****

Because we all hide behind faces that aren’t really ours,

And oh baby you’ll see, you’ll see.

That the person who’s wearing a mask isn’t just you,

It’s everyone too.

Under your mask, you’ll hide behind it,

Reveal yourself first, you first.

——

Under their masks they’ll hide behind them,

No one will ever hear the truth.

There are stories locked in everyone,

Maybe there not all scarring ones.

Each person is hiding from starlight,

Let them now see.

*****

Because we all hide behind faces that aren’t really ours,

And oh baby you’ll see, you’ll see,

That the person wearing those masks isn’t just them,

It’s universally.

Under their masks, they’ll hide behind them,

Reveal yourself first, you first.

*****

Because we all hide behind faces that aren’t really ours,

And oh baby you’ll see, you’ll see

That the person who’s wearing a mask isn’t just her,

It’s you and me too.

Under her mask, she’ll hide behind it,

Reveal yourself first, you first;

Reveal yourself first, you first,

You first.

You may not notice, I’m a work of art

My body my canvas, I define my part;

My vision for my world; Mad Max who darts,

From posers surrounding; their judgment.

Skull rings which frighten, mean I’m them nudging,

To think outside what they perceive; cold remarks.

They’ll swear vindictively, “That punk, upstart;

Who’s he think he is? His ink such a lark.”

I’ve tuned them all out, their words toxic sludge,

I’m reckless, I’m fine; I’m a work of art.

I’m older now, I’ve forgotten their darts

Aimed to hit my stillrock hard diamond heart.

Dress shirts, ties, hide tattoos; I’ll not begrudge,

Rough nights aided, their beauty never smudged.

I know too well, what it’s like, to play a part.

I’m reckless, I’m fine; I’m a work of art.

“Maybe love isn’t something that comes full circle. It just ebbs and flows, in and out just like the people in our lives” – Colleen Hoover, It Ends With Us

——-

Sometimes we think, it’s easy to manage to–

Balance the flow of our lives, each passage,

Of words and wonders we travel down fast.

Of memories, dreams curling blissfully through.

Of laughter, lovereason to again bloom,

Beyond the memories trapping us, lasting;

Never completely leaving until they pass,

In moments they choose, new whispers approve;

The coming of the dawn, when slumber breaks,

Though we’re scarred and hollow, gloves of lace

Will hide the marks of yesterday; fashion

A hug giving warmth, with new love, sweet dreams.

Yesterday fades, sparks today’s gentle stream

Brings reassurance, your arms hold me dear

Winds of autumn blowing leaves,

They’re slipping through,

Fingertips; winter echoes with frost.

—–

I’ll attempt to hide behind,

Luminous lights dusk,

Shadows hidden, caked with snowflakes.

—–

Though some pause, give thanks,

Manger calls forth.

Star’s magnificence, in blackness calls.

B&P’s Shadorma and Beyond: Poem – BakerStreet- “Dead End” #amwriting #poetry

Thanks to MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for this week’s Shadorma alternative a “Baker Street” themed after Sherlock Holmes and the popular show on BBC with Sherlock Holmes.

“The rules for this alternative to a Shadorma called “A Baker Street” are: Each stanza has three lines. Line 1: 2 syllables. Line 2: 2 syllables. Line 3: 1 syllable and includes a “b” in the word. You may choose to bend the rules and substitute any consonant or vowel for the “b” – so long as you use the same consonant or vowel in each third line. There are no specific rules regarding number of stanzas, rhyme, meter, linking stanzas, not linking stanzas, etc.”

——

The future awaits as I stand behind the swing hesitating. It reminds me of when I was a small girl, riding the swing and pumping my legs back and forth. Often, I would end up flipping the swing, riding it too high. My mom would be so upset at yell at me for scaring her each time I flipped the swing.

Today I sit down on the swing which is aggravatingly difficult with all these layers of tulle, silk, and lace. I don’t want to grass stain my gown before my big moment down walking down the aisle. I rock and swing my body using my barefoot and I’ve taken off my couture Jimmy Choos wedding shoes.

I swing softly and think and I wonder what my future will be like when the weddings over? The truth is no one knows what the future will bring, especially not me. I see the light of sun shining down upon my dress, to me on this day, this light is my hope. Such a brilliant sun could only mean a beautiful life ahead.

——-

My girl sits on the swing, rocking back and forth gently, her veiled head leaning against the rope on one side of the swing. Weddimg guests begin to gather sitting in white wooden chair. Some of the guest gaze back at the bride who thoughtfully swings, humming a familiar tune. I wonder what’s going on in her confounding mind and then she peers back at me and smiles brightly.

I’m not supposed to see her in her white dress yet, so I grin and pretend to cover my eyes as she laughs, telling me to go away. That we’ll be married before we know it. Through my fingers I stare at her, she’s so beautiful. I can feel my heart thumping against my chest –I seem to be nervous after all.

——-

Years later, I think back to that moment when our whole lives were before us. Holding each other’s hands and murmuring our wedding vows. Now I cling to her thin hand in the hospital bed as my love seems to disintegrate before me. One never knows what lies ahead and I think that’s a gift. If we knew what our future was, we would never move forward.

But I see the light of heaven shining upon my wife. I feel this warm healing light on my own body and we stare at each other and smile as the Lord calls us both home. The next morning the nurses find us, our bodies cold. We have already gone onto better things. We left holding hands, the same way we began.
