Thanks to MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting the Music Prompt every second Friday. Last week’s song was “I Ain’t YourMama” by Jennifer Lopez. I guess next time I’ll have to pick a better song, no one was interested in giving this one a go. But I should write for my own prompt at least.
Ellie stared at her teddy bears. She collected them and these three were her favourite. She didn’t much play with them, but they had a place of pride on her daybed.
Truthfully, Ellie played with other stuffed animals, she didn’t care if she wrecked or ripped them a part. Sometimes she even gave a stuffed animal to her family’s dog dog Artic.
But Mom said she had too many teddy bears and because she didn’t play with these three teddy bears on her bed, she could only keep one of them.
“But I snuggle with them at night, they keep me safe from the monsters. Even a monster can’t defend himself against three bears, ” Ellie told her Mom who laughed and ran her fingers through Ellie’s curly brown hair.
Ellie stared at her three soft bears, unable to choose who would go.
Suddenly, the solution came upon her. If Ellie couldn’t have all three bears, the only solution was to get rid of her Mom. She really loved her Mom a whole bunch, but she thought if she sacrificed Mom to the monsters, she would both be able to keepall three teddy bears and the monsters would leave forever too.
It was a scary thing to give up her mother, but Ellie thought it was for the best.
Thanks to MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting last week’s Tale Weaver Prompt. The prompt is to have a character visit this centre of relaxation and cover and recount their experiences. I will use it as continuation of my Teegan’s Potion story. This is Part 4. Here are the links to the other parts of the story. I apologize for taking so long with this last part.
Teegan couldn’t recall ever being at a spa before or a place of retreat. But he hadn’t been given a choice. He was a thief, a crookster. He conned people out of their money, he had been doing so for a couple of hundred-years.
He was almost nomadic, roaming the forests and the woods. He could not help when his curse took over him. He was learning to control it, but even to control it a little was difficult for the first one-hundred-years he lived as this ‘thing.’ Whatever you would term him.
Teegan wasn’t sure himself what he was. But he knew when he was upset, he was still prone to rages where darkness, the shadow of the beast hiding inside him took over. He was in a little town when it happened this time. He’d been in a lodge having a bath, cleaning himself up, shaving his beard when his room was suddenly filled with men. They had come to collect him and in turn the bounty on his head for his years of murderous deeds.
“Teegan of the Forest, we’ve been after you a while. My Father spent his life chasing you and my Grandfather, half his life too. I’m ending it here and bringing you in. You’re a plague on society. I don’t care you can control your wickedness at times. I only care when you’re angry you cannot,” a man named Henry Barger said. He was the brother to a son of the local earl, who had come across Teegan on a bad night.
He vaguely recalled Henry’s father and grandfather, both had been named Henry and hunted him. It wasn’t Teegan’s fault they’d died. They kept pushing him, attacking him, refusing to leave him in peace.
Presently, the men surrounding Teegan tried to rough him up, so he’d be easier to take the Earl of the land. But this wasn’t going to happen so he let his anger grow and consume him. In moments, Teegan’s bedroom had become a bloody battle field. Not one of those men had stood a chance. He hadn’t wanted to kill them, but what choice had they left him? Why in God’s name had the wretched wizard cursed him in the first place? He hadn’t been that evil had he?
He sighed getting back in his still warm bath among the carnage, bathing himself clean of blood before changing his clothes. Teegan snuck out the window and with his wits about him, entered into the forest he knew well.
Hours later, he found himself surrounded again by monks from the local monastery. He laughed, but at the same time, definitely did not want to kill men of the cloth.
“Please let me go,” he said. “I don’t want to hurt any of you. Especially since you’re holy men. Leave me in peace and you’ll never see me again.”
A priest appeared from among the monks. His face lined but his stature regal. “Teegan of the forest, I know a greatdeal about you. I’m Father Matthews. I know you were cursed to live a long life, to suffer. I know what you initially did to invoke your curse. I’m not here to turn you in for coins to the Earl, I’ve come to save you.”
“Save me, why?”
“Because Teegan,” Father Matthew’s replied, ” More killing or trying to kill you, only results in more death. Also, I have a bit of insight into the souls of men and I can see, yours is shredded from your deeds. You will never be able to stop the monster inside alone. But I know someone, a woman of blessed magic who can.”
Teegan rolled his eyes but Father Matthews continued talking.”I have spoken with Hazal and we both feel, she can help you. As long as you drink her potion twice a year withher, she says you will not turn evil when your temper ignites, when you’re unable to harness the beast inside you. We can help Teegan, please let us.”
“I don’t want, I don’t need some witches help,” Teegan sputtered indignantly.
“She’s not any witch and not pureevil as the Wizard who cursed you. He was a ‘Wizard Demon,’ and know one wants to find him after dealing with the fall-out of the curse he gave you. You don’t have much choice Teegan. You need to retreat with Hazal and her clan, they will help you.”
“But if you don’t,” Father Matthews said ominously, “We will end your life right now and we know how to do it. If you choose to meet Hazel, I will bring you to her and once you’ve worked with her for a while, you can go about your life. As long as you always find Hazel and her femaledescendants, to take your potion twice a year, you’re a free man.”
Teegan nodded his understanding at Father Matthews. He gazed around him at the monks in their sack clothe, with torches lit. He peered confused at the priest who instead of trying to hurt him, wanted to help Teegan with his curse. No one was kind to Teegan, not since he’d been human.
He felt the priest was a good man in his heart, trying to help Teegan for Teegan’s sake and everyone Teegan came upon, so he didn’t hurt them unknowingly. Father Matthews promised him what he had always wanted to be able to do, to live his life without the darkness, the shadowy curse which made him a monster.
“Alright Father,” Teegan said. “I will come with you. But promise me this woman Hazel, she will not harm me? Or kill me, herself?”
“I promise and she will say the same.”
Teegan followed Father Matthews back to the monastery. He hoped no one found him before he saw Hazal. He would have to start over in the new world he thought, perhaps, convince this Hazel to come with him if she was pretty? But for now, the monestary was the safest place for Teegan to rest. As he fell asleep, he wondered about this witch, could her potion actuallycontrol his curse?
Sighing he dreamt of a woman with hazel eyes and a soft touch. When he awoke he found himself not in the monestsry, but asleep in a tranquil room in a comfortable bed as those of nobility slept on. The room was ornately decorated and sighing, thinking it was all a dream, Teegan faded back into sleep.
When he awoke again, and the sunlight was pouring into the lavish room, Teegan arose from the softest bed he’d ever slept on. It was plush with furs and woven sheets. He longingly gazed back, wishing he could sleep forever away, but he realized he was here to receive help from the gifted witch of blessed magic named Hazel.
Her family lived well, he thought to himself. He wondered again why, the priest would save someone as terrible as him. Teegan had murdered and hurt so many people when the beast overtook him, especially in the beginning of his cursed life, when he had no control at all. The priest knew what Teegan had initially done to be cursed. Teegan thought back to that day ages ago, almost two-hundred-years.
Back then, he’d only been around twenty-five winters, he wasn’t exactly sure. He’d grown up spoiled, a son of the aristocracy. A future Lord and Vassal, yet he hadn’t known enough to value his position. He hadn’t cared much but for mead, women, and fun.
No women ever caught his attention long. He imagined he had a few bastards here and there among the village lasses and the barmaids. Then there were the maids and courtesans.
There had been a lovely one with dark black hair and blue-eyes. Eyes such a stormy blue, he felt he was drowning in them the first time he saw Eleanor’s eyes. But everyone knew Eleanor was off-limits. She was the Earl’s personal and most current favourite mistress.
But Eleanor had beguiled Teegan as a young man. She was a seasoned suductress and she drew him in.
“Such a handsome man as yourself, all alone in the Earl’s court? I’ve noticed you’ve stopped bringing the servant girls and other courtesans to your bed? The Earl prefers his vassals to be properly taken care of, is something the matter?” Eleanor had asked him, fluttering her lashes and rubbing his arm.
“No Madam, nothing is wrong. But I’m not interested in those women because they’re all the same after a while. I have in my eyes the picture of the most elegant and graceful women in the land and no other woman compares with her beauty or kind manner,” Teegan told Eleanor, who laughed.
“Ah, so is the son, of the Lord of the Forests, in love then?”
“He thinks perhaps, but he is waiting to see what the woman he longs for says to his request. He cannot touch her, but desperately wants to be with her. He would defy all authority to have her. Do you know who she is Eleanor?”
Teegan must have shown he was a tad nervous. He’d never had to proposition a woman before. He’d known what a dangerous situation he was getting himself and his family into, but the price was more than he’d ever dreamed.
Eleanor laughed again,”You play a complicated and deadly game young Teegan. You wouldn’t be the only person defying an Earl or the wretched wizard who follows him around. You’d best consider some other courtesan. Then you will not be killed or worse for touching me. Then again, I like a guy who lives a bit dangerously. Shall we go for a walk in plane sight, so no one thinks we’re doing anything wrong?”
Teegan had agreed and Eleanor had been a wonderfully skilled storyteller, entertaining him, but never touching him, making it seem as if they were keeping each other company, while she waited for the Earl to call for her.
Then, Eleanor had pretended to fall and while Teegan aided Eleanor in righting herself, she whispered: “Meet me at the gamekeepers cottage, tomorrow night.”
Teegan had agreed and they had made love madly there for hours when the Earl and his consort, walked in on Teegan and Eleanor. Eleanor pleaded and was instantly forgiven, the Earl adored her so much. She did nothing to try and save Teegan, saying the whole idea was his fault.
“I’m only a woman, how could I resist him, he charms all the women where ever he goes,” she told the Earl.
He kissed Eleanor, “I forgive you, my love. You couldn’t help yourself. My Wizard will deal with this scoundrel. He’ll make Lord Teegan sorry.”
Then the Earl and Eleanor left the cottage and it was only half-naked Teegan and the evil Wizard. The old man cracked his fingers, his dark eyes eating into Teegan’s soul. Teegan was terrified . . .
Then someone was shaking him awake.
“Teegan,” a melodic and gentle voice said. “Teegan wake-up, we need to have your potion now.”
He mumbled something than yelled. When he was finally awake, a woman with auburn hair, milky skin, and vibrant green eyes was staring at Teegan appearing worried. She brushed the hair back from his face and rocked him as the edges of his nightmare faded.
Day 10 Prompt: Unfolded “Has there ever been a time that something negative happened but because of it you discovered something positive? Free write for ten minutes diving into one or more of your experiences and then take us on a journey through your poetry, show us how the events unfolded. Or…
You could take it in a different direction and free write about unfolded and see where it leads. Was there a time when you were doing laundry with someone and they didn’t like how you were folding? Tell us about it.” ———-
Events unfold, burn me apart,
Thought life was stable; now restart.
Begin again anew and find,
Inspiration warm and kind.
Or realize life isn’t nice; it tricks you each time,
You think you would know, twice shy once burned –but you’re blind.
Don’t you know my favourite mistake,
Experience merciless takes —
It’s fire to everyone who thought not,
To remember their lessons taught.
It’s the way life unfolds teaching us learning hurts,
Welcome to Part Two of my Fall Beauty Haul 2016. These are all products I have tried since the spring. I apologize as I meant to have Part Two out closer to Part One but life has been busy and I’ve been quite exhausted lately due to health issues. Anyway’s here’s my Beauty Haul Part Two:
1.Make Up Forever Aqua Smoky Extravagant Waterproof Mascara: Dramatic Impact and Graphic Precision – (www.sephora.ca) – $30.00 CAN
I’m most definitely a huge Make Up For Ever Fan. Their products are always awesome quality at a reasonable price. For this mascara, I was able to try a sample-size in the non-waterproof version first. I loved the cone shaped brush and was so excited to try the mascara in the waterproof full-sized version. However, the problem with the waterproof version is becoming used to using the cone shaped brush which is larger than in the sample-sized mascara I first tried. The mascara wand brush is an excellent size in the sample version but too big at the end of the cone brush in the full-sized version.
I don’t find I gain much volume in my lashes from this mascara either, which is odd because I did gain volume with sample-sized version? I’ve become used to utilizing this waterproof mascara and it is alright. I’m not sure it’s worth $30.00 CAN. My biggest issue is that the mascara wand too easily leaves mascara all around your eyes, especially underneath them. I always have to take a Q-tip and clean up around my eye a lot. So if you are going to use this mascara, put it on before your eye shadow, as you don’t want to ruin your eye shadow with the Make Up For Ever waterproof mascara.
I’m becoming better at using the cone brush but I find I need to use another mascara on top of this mascara to get a volumized appearance, and I have thick lashes. I went and bought a L’Oreal Butterfly Effect Mascara in waterproof. I layer this drugstore product over the Make Up For Ever mascara; the drugstore mascara cost me $8.99 CAN. It helps the Make Up For Ever waterproof mascara look a lot fuller. This a three-star mascara, you can buy better ones. I do like the concept of the brush, but I think the mascara wand cone brush is too big in the full-sized waterproof version.
2. Smash Box Oil Free Photo Finish Foundation Primer – Pore Minimizing –
(www.sephora.ca) – $50.00 CAN (1 0z).
I have tried some Smash Box products and been happy. I like there eye shadow as it is highly pigmented and there lip products are wonderful as well. My favourite nude lip gloss is from Smash Box.
Smash Box was pretty much the first brand to come out with primers for skin. I remember buying their original primer eight or nine-years-ago. Their primers last a long time, even in the sample-size I have been using.
Nonetheless, I have found even if their primers say oil free or pore minimizing, they still make me break-out every single time. It doesn’t matter what primer of Smash Box’s I use. I think if you have drier skin, this might be an okay product for you to use. But personally, the only place I use it after a couple-weeks trying it, is underneath my eyes, so I don’t end up with mascara or eye shadow giving me raccoon eyes later in the day.
If you want an excellent primer that is better for your skin, pore-minimizing and great for all skin types, I recommend the Benefit POREfessional Face Primer for $50.00 for (1.5 0z), a much more reliable buy. It’s also nicer on your skin if you break-out at all. I can wear the Benefit Primer every day and I hardly ever have issues such as I have with SmashBox Primers.
3. BENEFIT cosmetics GIMME Brow Volumizing Fiber Gel (Color 01 Light) – (0.1 oz.) – (www.sephora.ca) – $30.00 CAN
It’s always frightening when a makeup brand updates or changes one of your favourite products. Often, I find I don’t like the new product as much. However, I don’t believe this Benefit Cosmetic’s Gimme Brow Gel has changed much with the exception of the outside packaging.
Gimme Brow Gel is my go-to brow gel and lasts me about three-months a container. There are three shades you can choose from besides the one I bought, also medium 02 and Deep 03. It’s amazing product and worth the $30.00 CAN to get a finished looking brow which isn’t too perfect. The product doesn’t cause your eyebrows to appear extremely ‘made-up’ with this Volumizing gel. It gives your eyebrows polish and fills them in.
You can apply Gimme Brow Gel either before or after you fill in your brow with an eyebrow pencil. Unfortunately, I am not happy with the change in the Benefit eyebrow pencils as you know from Part One. But Gimme Brow Gel is a superior product with a brow pencil or without, depending on how much filling in your eyebrows need. Five stars!
4. Origins Plantscription Anti-Aging Power Eye Cream – (www.sephora.ca) – (o.5 oz.) – (www.sephora.ca) – $58.00 CAN
I’ve tried a few Origins samples (for one or two days) of their face creams and have generally,
liked them. This is the first time I had a product of theirs large enough to try over several weeks. I received a larger-size sample of this eye cream and I love it.
I’ve only started to notice my eyes are not as smooth as they used to be. The Origins Anti-Aging Power Eye Cream is gentle on the skin around and over my eyes. It doesn’t burn as some eye creams I’ve tried in the past have. Plus, I wake up feeling my eyes are less puffy and my skin is smoother in my eye area. The eye cream has chamomile and algae in it and is a natural product.
I like it a great deal as well as the fact that it lasts such a long time for a small tube. I think a full-sized product would last months and months. I would consider buying this in the future. I’m impressed by how gentle the eye cream is on sensitive eye skin. And I would agree with the Sephora claim,. after two-weeks or less, you notice a difference in the appearance of skin around your eyes. A well-made product to pick-up if you’re searching for a great eye cream.
5. Dove Dry Spray Soothing Chamomile 48 Hour Odor Protection – Antiperspirant – (www. well.ca or in store at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada) – (1.7 g) – $8.99
I received a full-sized sample of this to try in one of my last Luxebox’s. As you can tell, since I’m writing about it, I liked the product a lot. I don’t like Dove Hair Care but their body washes and deodorant type products are always wonderful. They leave your skin feeling baby soft and they work well throughout the day.
I guess typically, I apply antiperspirant about two or three times a day, depending on what I’m doing that day. But this antiperspirant by Dove lasts long so I think if you wanted you could apply it less.
The Chamomile scent is refreshing and light. Dove has other scents you can choose from. I love that it’s a spray on antiperspirant which makes it easy to apply. Also, unlike stick deodorant, the dry spray truly doesn’t end up on your clothes.
Dove includes their 1/4 moisturizing cream in this product along with Vitamins E and F to sooth underarm skin. Its a wonderful product and I’m sure at your local drugstore, it will even go on sale as it a common drugstore brand.
6. ST. TROPEZ Gradual Self- Tanning Lotion and Body Moisturizer In Light-Medium (6.7 fl.oz) (www.beautyboutique.ca or Shoppers Drug Mart) – $38.00 CAN
I had heard great things about St. Tropez self-tanning products and I was excited to
try their products having collected about $80.00 worth of Shoppers Drug Mart Optimum Reward points in the summer. I purchased two bottles hoping the lotion would be better than Vaseline or Jergans (for instance) self-tanning lotions because its a more high-end brand.
I am truly pale skinned and fair and with this product (as with other self-tanning products) had to be careful I only applied it every three-days or I looked orange or had orange streaks all over my legs (etc). Honestly, with self-tanning lotions, you cannot avoid the streaks. I even put on regular lotion after the tanning lotion, so my skin is less orange. Especially over areas where tanning lotions seem to stick like your ankles and knees.
The moisturizing quality of the St. Tropez Gradual Self-Tan is superior to drugstore brand moisturizers. It’s an awesome lotion which helped with dry skin in the summer. I would say this product is about a four out of five stars. It works well, but it is a bit pricey for what it actually does. But, I’m happy I bought both tubes.
I looked at other St. Tropez products and they are a bit pricier. I wanted to try the foam for instance (with a glove) and it was around $60.00 for a set or for a large-size of the St. Tropez instant tanning foam alone.
So, this one is up to you, and if you want to put all that work into a tan for summer or vacation. Even if St. Tropez self-tan products are pricier, they are by far more worth it than burning your skin to get a tan and inviting skin cancer, which is the most common form of cancer (so I’ve read).
Thanks for reading! Hopefully, see you with more beauty product reviews before Christmas!
Welcome to September and the third month of my bi-weekly interview series. I’m excited to share with you an interview of my good friend, talented writer, wonderfulperson, and wise woman:Rosema Gonzales from the Philippines. You can explore her blog at the following link: A Reading Writer .
1. Rosema, Please Share With Us Some Things About Yourself?
I am my blog’s name: A Reading Writer. I read and write and in-between, eat cake and/or drink coffee.
I currently work for a small Public Relations firm as a Public Relations Associate and also a Public Relations Writer. I have a degree in journalism and I dream of becoming a newswriter someday; abonafide journalist. Although, I feel this goal could be a bit impossible, realistically speaking, but who knows?
When I’m not working, I’m blogging and writing. My blog, A Reading Writer , is my fortress and it has changed my writing-self dramatically. I used to only write bookreviews and thoughts on books I was reading (wanted to read). Now, I write both poetryand fiction. I never thought I could write poetry or fiction until I joined the WordPresscourse: Writing 101, last year. Writing 101 changed my perspective on my writing abilities.
When I’m not writing or blogging, I have a thirst for reading. Mitch Albom is my favoriteauthor. I love all the novels I have, which Mitch Albom wrote, but it would take too long to name them all :D)
When I am not reading I am drinking a cuppa of dark coffee and wishing I could be eatingcheesecake! 😀
2. When Did You First Start Writing and Blogging?
Technically, my first post was published on August 28, 2014, close to two-years-ago now. My first post was only the beginning of my ‘existence’ as a blogger. My ‘real’more thanexisting as a blogger, began when I joined Writing 101 in September 2015. For me, this course offered by WordPress, somehow signaled the ‘rebirth’ of my A Reading Writer blog.

3. What Does Your Writing and Poetry Mean to You? Why Do You Write and Where Do You Find Your Inspiration and Motivation?
For me, writing is like breathing with words. No one can survive without breathing; that’s how vital writing and poetry are for me. My motivation and inspiration can come from anywhere. I had a writing piece which was inspired by a garbage truck once. Seriously! But the majority of my poetry and fiction are written while I’m riding thebus. I think my brain churns more when I’m commuting. Reading and music also inspire andmotivate me, and have recently given birth to some unpublished poems, too. 🙂
4. Do You Find There Is A Time of Day You Most Enjoy Writing?
Hmmm. As I said before, I usually write on a bus so it’s either early morning or at night when I write. Although, I think there is something about the silence and darknessof night that inspires more creative pieces as compared to when it’s daytime.

5. Do You Have Any Current Writing Projects or Any Hopeful Writing Projects?
If hosting a writing challenge is a project then, I would say my most recent project called: Word-High Julyhas been my focus. #WordHighJuly featured thirty beautiful Filipinowords as word prompts. Many poets and bloggers have written impeccable pieces inspired by these Filipino words such as halakhak, a noun which means loud uninhibitedlaughter, or kaulayai, a noun which means a pleasant and intimate companion. In terms of future projects, I’m dreaming of publishing my own poetry book in the future.
Below is an example of an image and word prompt used in Rosema’s #WordHighJuly writing challenge:
6. Have You Published Any Of Your Writing Or Are You Planning to Publish Works of Writing In The Future? Can You Briefly Describe Your Publishing and Writing Process?
All my written works are published on WordPress onlyfor the moment. It’s part of my future plan to publish them soon maybe on my own, because scouting for a publisher is a tough task. I’m still building up the courage to finally, begin writing my own book.
Because I’m not even one step towards publishing my work beyond my blog, I think I’m not a good writer or blogger to describe the process of publishing my writing. HOWEVER, I have great blogging friends who have successfully published their books and I’m sure they will willingly help people who like me, will eventually need tips on the entire publishing process. I have been reading some online material about self-publishing. So, I have gathered a ton of information there.
7. What Is Your Writing Process Like?
I have an erratic writing process.I write anywhere and anytime, because story ideas sprout unexpectedly. There are times for instance, when I am just walking and I come acrosssomeone who I don’t know and a poem is born! It’s an unpredictable process so I always have my phone handy because it’s my stockroom for poetry and fiction.
” I have an erratic writing process. I write anywhere and anytime, because story ideas sprout unexpectedly.” – Rosema Gonzales
8. Do You Prefer Certain Areas of Writing or Reading Styles and/or Genres?
I prefer reading in bed. I’m a certified librocubicularist. 🙂
When it comes to reading genres, I love Young-Adult, Mystery,Thrillers, Contemporary Literature, Historical Fiction, Poetry, and Faith related books. When it comes to writing, my most chosen genre is Romance; love, and more so, unrequited love. I also write realisticfiction and about tragedy. My blog friend Mel, of In Media Reshas been joking about putting a death toll counter in my blog. HAHA. I’m close to considering it !
9. Do You Have Any Helpful Advice for Other Writers?
First, I must say write for yourself not for anyone else. It is blissful to have many peoplefollow and read your work, but it is unusual to have many followers and readers as a writer or blogger starting out. So, do not be discouraged by a lack of other peoplereading your writing; write for no one but yourself.
Second, I you cannot compare yourself to other writers. Other writers maybe talented but you are talented in your own way as well. Such as fingerprints, each author has their own individual perspective and niche in the writing world. So, be yourself;find your own voice and style, then improve on it.
Lastly, I believe you should always be the first person who believes in your characters, in your poems, in in all your writing. This advice, I often give myself, and is a lessonI’m still trying to learn.
10. Is There Anything Else You Want To Share With Us, Pertinent to Writing or Yourself?
Honestly, I’ve only just found my true writer-self. I think, this year is the first, I’ve finally embraced creative writing. My focus before this year, was on writing straightnews, real-life nonfiction, becoming a genuine journalist. Now, I am loving what I’ve been discovering about myself through creative writing.
As well, it would not be possible for me to have had such personal growth through writing, if I did not have a great bunch of supportive and lovingwriters in the bloggingcommunity on WordPress. I would like to highlight the need for a friendly, honest, andinteractive writing community.
Bloggers and writers (online and in general), need to be kind enough to read the work of the writers who read your own posts. Let’s be supportive enough to correctgrammar mistakes or provide tips on how a writer can improve on his or her work. Leave thoughtful comments on other bloggers and writers posts.
I know life happens and we do not always have a lot of time. But if we have the time and make the time, we need to somehow harness the power of our words to encourage ourfellow writers. High praises are not always needed, you can also give constructivecriticism or disagree with what another writer wrote. What’s important is to let writersknow how their work affects you, how you feel about their work. This is helpful, to all writers.
Writers should be the first to realizecompletely, the power of their words. I hope we can agree to use words to create an encouraging community. Let’s not underestimate the power of our comments. Comments on a writer’s work can change lives; I’m proof and I can testify to the truth of comments changing my own life and writing.

11. Please Share With Us Some Pieces Of Your Fiction And Poetry:
Thanks so much Rosema for filling out interview questions and writing themwith yourheart. It always comes through in your work, fiction, poetry, or talking about yourfavourite books. I’m encouraged you will make wonderful strides in creative writing and in your career aspirations.
Dreams are always possible, sometimes we only have to believe they can be a possibility!
Many thanks for reading along in this bi-weekly interview series. If you would like to be interviewed and share about yourself and your writing aspirations, please let me know. You can reach-out to me through my Contact Page.
Thanks to Paul of Palfitness for nominating for me for three-days of three quotes. I’m going to do all nine quotes at once. My theme is Jane Austen’s Emma. All quotes are from Good Reads as well as book cover images.
Emma is one of my favourite classic novels. Emma is intent on arranging marriages for all her friends, but doesn’t want to ever marry anyone herself. However, her plans for fixing others up often go awry in hilarious ways.
Emma also finds out she loves Mr. knightly, her dear friend, when she thinks she’s going to lose him to a woman named Jane. The movie Emma with Gwynth Paltrow as Emma is one of my favourite movies as well.
1. ” A woman is not to marry a man merely because she is asked, or because he is attached to her, and can write a tolerable letter.” – Haha great advice. In other words, don’t lead a guy on!
2. “Seldom, very seldom, does complete truth belong to any human disclosure; seldom can it happen that something is not a little disguised or a little mistaken.” – Very thoughtful comment I think. We can never tell, exactly what the truth is unless we were present when an event occurred. Often we paraphrase and leave details out when we talk about events second-hand.
3. ” Better be without sense than misapply it as you do.” – Makes me laugh. Be logical, have sense, but don’t abuse your skills. There’s more to this life than ‘black’ and ‘white.’
4. “Men of sense, whatever you may choose to say, do not want silly wives.” – Don’t fake who your are, pretend you’re what you aren’t. I think the right man, will love you for who you truly are.
5. “Were I to fall in love, indeed, it would be a different thing; but I have never been in love ; it is not my way, or my nature; and I do not think I ever shall.” – This quote holds such irony; Emma does not think she will ever get married while she arranges other marriages. The situation change when she learns Mr. knightly might be marrying another woman.
6. “I cannot make speeches, Emma…If I loved you less, I might be able to talk about it more. But you know what I am. You hear nothing but truth from me. I have blamed you, and lectured you, and you have borne it as no other woman in England would have borne it.” –Mr. Knightly and his way of telling Emma he loves her. They’ve been good friends, often offering each other advice, but never more. If Emma can put up with his lectures, Mr. Knightly knows he’s found his right woman for marriage.
7. “Why not seize the pleasure at once? — How often is happiness destroyed by preparation, foolish preparation.” – A great point Carpe diem; cease the day!
8. “If a woman doubts as to whether she should accept a man or not, she certainly ought to refuse him. If she can hesitate as to `Yes,’ she ought to say `No’ directly. It is not a state to be safely entered into with doubtful feelings, with half a heart.” – One should be sure about who they’re going to marry. Maybes and second thoughts aren’t a good thing to be experiencing if you are wanting a lasting and content marriage.
9. ” A single woman, of good fortune, is always respectable, and may be as sensible and pleasant as any body else.” – A woman with her own money, taking care of herself, is equal to her married peers.
This is the second part of my beauty haul from February to the present month of June. Part 1 was only on products used on the eyes and can be found here.
For this post, I will only be focusing on makeup and products used on your face, excluding your eyes. As per usual, I buy my makeup from a variety of stores including The Bay, Sephora, and Shoppers Drug Mart online, but I will be searching for the items and providing you links to Sephora whenever I can because they carry the majority of the products I buy.
1. NARS blush in Orgasm – (www.sephora.ca) – $38.00 CAN – This blush is one of my all
time favourite blush colours. Not only mine, but beauty product lovers and makeup artists alike. The color Orgasm is described as a “peachy pink with shimmer.” It is one of the only blush colours which can be worn by anyone, no matter their skin tone. Although, my skin is pale and I often tend towards colours which are pink or purple, this colour is perfect for me as well because of the pink tone in it; however, if you have skin which has more yellow undertones, the peachiness of Orgasm will also appear beautiful on you.
Another aspect I love about NARS blush is that it lasts forever. Yes, $38.00 CAN may seem expensive to spend on one blush, but this blush will last you years and works well with many other makeup colours. I had a smaller container of the Orgasm blush I used up before I repurchased the Orgasm blush, and the smaller container lasted about four-years and I wore it two or three times a week.
As well, with many NARS products, the pigment of Orgasm is fantastic. If you’ve lighter toned skin, I caution you to be careful when you apply NARS blushes, including Orgasm because it is extremely easy to apply too much blush at once; you want your blush to appear like a natural flush. I hope you like this colour and will have a look at Sephora online or in-store, at some of the other colours available in NARS blushes. There are many pretty blush shades all with excellent pigment concentration.
Since the Orgasm colour is so popular for NARS, it is one of ten colours you can buy in a cream to powder blush as well as in the powder form. I have also seen the colour in a luminosity highlighter you can add to your foundation to receive a more dewy appearance in summer time.
2. BENEFIT Girl Meets Pearl – Liquid Pearl for Face – (www.sephora.ca) – $39.00 CAN
I purchased Girl Meets Pearl, a year or two ago. I bought it because I thought it would
be a superb natural highlighter for your cheekbones or brow bones, but the consistency of the highlighter was too liquid and I didn’t achieve the look I was hoping to get.
However, this summer I was searching for a luminizing highlighter which is glowy and shimmery, to add to my matte MAKE UP FOREVER foundation; it gives more of a summery glow to your makeup. I didn’t want to switch foundations and end up breaking-out or having my skin appear too oily.
I apply Girl Meets Pearl after I apply my foundation. I put a bit of Girl Meets Pearl on the top of my hand and take my foundation brush and blend Girl Meets Pearl into my foundation on my face. The results, are fantastic.
Girl Meets Pearl is the perfect “pearly golden pink” for many skin tones and it lightens the heaviness of a more matte foundation, without making your skin oily. It provides a subtle sheen. I’m extremely happy with this product now and I wasn’t when I bought it originally. But, for mixing with your foundation Girl Meets Pearl is the best highlighter product.
As well, Girl Meets Pearl has chamomile and sweet almond seed extract in it so it improves the appearance of skin’s “firmness” and “smoothness.” I also want to mention, I have tried to use this product on several other occasions, so it has lasted well and I think is good value for your money for this type of highlighter.
3. SEPHORA Radiant Luminizing Drops in Starlight – (www.sephora.ca) – $19.00 CAN
This product was supposed to do what the BENEFIT’s Girl Meets Pearl does; however, I didn’t realize I had a product which already worked well as a luminizing highlighter to add to my foundation.
When I was at Sephora, I chose this product which is Sephora’s own makeup brand. I have not tried too much of Sephora’s makeup brand but the price was right and I liked the pink colour of the Luminizing Drops. You can also buy them in Ultra Light – Bronze, or Morning Light – Champagne.
I have tried the Luminizing Drops a few times, but compared to the BENEFIT Girl Meets Pearl, it doesn’t do justice to it’s proclaimed ‘luminizing’ effects. You’re only supposed to put a drop or two of the Luminizing Drops mixed with your foundation. This did nothing for me because you couldn’t tell my skin appeared any different than if I had only worn my foundation alone. Adding more drops helped, but it was difficult to do using the dropper in the Luminizing Drops. It’s difficult to get the product out of the container at all.
Maybe, it’s me? I can be mechanically challenged at times, but I’m not impressed with the dropper Sephora used in this product; it isn’t great. I think in this case, you get what youpay for. I cheaped-out, instead of buying a more expensive NARS Luminizing Highlighter (which I mentioned in the NARS blush review above), in the colour Orgasm.
I didn’t end up needing to buy a luminizer at all, but at least had I bought the NARS luminizer, I would have used it all up. I’m disappointed with the SEPHORA Luminizing Drops.
4. URBAN DECAY – De-Slick Makeup Setting Spray -Oil Free – (www.sephora.ca) – $38.00 CAN (4 0z) or $17.00 (1 oz) Of all the makeup products I have purchased lately,
this one is nearly, the absolute best. I’ve watched many You Tube Makeup Tutorials and many women say using a Makeup Setting Spray so their makeup doesn’t rub off, and stays in place, throughout the day or night helps the duration of their makeup. You can also use the Makeup Setting Spray to keep your skin from appearing oily.
This product is everything it promises to be. It keeps your makeup in place by using a technology which “lowers the temperature of your makeup” so it doesn’t rub-off. One reason I know it stays in place: If I go to take a small afternoon nap, my makeup remains on my face and doesn’t end up all over my white pillow case.
Also, because I want my face to appear ‘glowy’ and ‘luminous’ in the summer, not greasy and oily, the Makeup Setting Spray is exceptional at helping my face not appear as if I’m sweating my makeup off.
I only picked up the 1 oz size on my way to pay for other Sephora products and I have found the product to be a game-changer in my makeup routine. As vital as having the right primer for your makeup can be when you want your makeup to last long, I think the the Makeup Setting Spray is an even better purchase, especially if your skin is oily.
I use the Makeup Setting Spray every day and I don’t break out from it either. If you are searching for a cheaper option, I have seen but not tried, NYC makeup in the drugstore, has their own version of URBAN DECAYS Makeup Setting Spray. If you have tried it, let me know how it works.
5. LIPPYGIRL Vegocentric Lipstick in p-Bomb – (www.lippygirl.com) – $23.00 CAN
I received this lipstick in a Luxebox a couple of boxes ago. I’m so pleased with the colour and how well it stays on your lips, through out the day. LIPPYGIRL lipsticks make your lips feel extremely soft and smooth after applying it.
P-Bomb is a glimmery lipstick in a bright pink but the lipstick colour is not a pink so bright it is blinding or too bold for the day time. P-Bomb’s perfect to finish off a subtle makeup look and I love it for summer and every season of the year.
As well, LIPPYGIRL lipstick is Vegocentric. If you’re a Vegan or someone seeking to use makeup which is naturally based, this is a great lipstick and website for you to check-out.
LIPPYGIRL has many more lipstick shades as well as other makeup products for your eyes, lips, and face. I also get the impression from their website, they’re a Canadian company which I like a great deal. It’s important to support our economy and local businesses in Canada.
6. PHYSICANS FORMULA Palette Mineral Glow Pearls in Translucent – (www.ulta.ca) – $13.99 US I was stoked to find this product in Winners in
Canada. It was on sale for about $5.99 so I paid much less than the listed US price. I couldn’t find the product online in Canada but I’m certain if they carry it at ULTA in the US, you can find it at Shoppers Drug Mart here. I usually am pretty careful I don’t buy too cheap of makeup because it has a greater tendency to make me break-out. However, I have used PHYSICIANS FORMULA before and I know it’s a mineral based makeup which is better for your skin. The value for the quality of product is awesome with this drugstore brand.
I bought Mineral Glow Pearls because the highlighter I have at home, is too intense for day time wear. I only need something that is going to give a little glow to my cheek bones, brow bones, the tip of my nose, and cupids bow of my lip. The pigment of the Mineral Glow Pearls is only a touch luminizing when used alone, or to contour your face, for every day makeup at work or wherever. This highlighter appears more natural than my beloved Candle Light Highlighter by TWO FACED. But I prefer the TWO FACED highlighter when I’m going out with the girls or am out at night.
I’m extremely happy with Mineral Glow Pearls and highly recommend the PHYSCIANS FORMULA brand if you want makeup that won’t make you break-out, is mineral, a cheaper price point, and comes in many shades and colours appropriate for various skin tones. I bought the MineralGlow Pearls in the colour Translucent as I am fair skinned but ULTA also showed the same product available in the colours Beige, Light Bronze, and Bronze.
Everyone hates being an adult and still having to deal with acne. For me, my skin is pretty well-behaved except for twice a year when hot weather comes in the summer time and when winter weather comes in the fall. My skin tends to break out worse than it does any other time, once or twice, before becoming used to the change in weather.
I love LUSH products and they have been so helpful in my beauty routine. On the LUSH online website they say Mask of Magnaminty is technically a “daily facial wash” but it’s main purpose is “deep-cleaning” for the face and body.
As we have been experiencing warmer weather, my skin began to break-out, so I started using the Mask of Magnaminty every two-days. It completely calmed my skin down and the breakouts have gone away. When I’m not having any acne at all, I have switched to using the Mask of Magnaminty once a week. But if I have a bit of acne, I will use the mask every two-days until my acne clears. A person could use the Mask of Magnaminty every day, but for me, I find it drys my skin out if I overuse it.
The mask contains “aduki beans” to exfoliate skin, vanilla to “calm redness,” and honey “to smooth.” As well, their is indeed ‘mint’ in the Mask of Magnaminty which I adore because it provides your skin with this clean tingly feeling after you’ve washed off the mask.
Mask of Magnaminty is a wonderful product, as many LUSH products are. I think it will replace my LUSH Chocolate mask, which has been my go-to for breakouts and weekly skin maintenance. I also find this new mask lasts a long time. I have had the product for over a month now, and have used a quarter of the 125g container mostly applying it every two-days.
I wish I had the Mask of Magnaminty when I was in high school; my skin would have been much nicer. If you know any body struggling, this a fantastic mask. I can’t believe how smooth my skin feels after using it.
