Sunday Photo Fiction/ Saturday Mix: Poem – Prose Poetry – “We the People” #amwriting #poetry #SaturdayMix #SPF

Thanks to Susan for hosting SPF. Also thanks to Sarah from MindLoveMisery Menagerie’s Saturday Mix Prompt of Opposing Forces. Today the two sets of words are: permit and forbid, and visitor and host. Sorry, this is longer than the regular 200 Words.

He permits and forbids without reason, with much fallacious thought. He twists words as vines and slithers. A side-show becomes the center of the circus ring, as he pretends he can make you great.

But you don’t need him to flourish. Your strength is in your people, you’ve the right, the ability, to burn such policies to ash. You were great before his birth, before his residence. And — into time, and into the past — his words will fade as hell’s bells knell. With each message of condemnation, each compliment a serpent’s tongue lisping. You never know if you can trust him, and such delusion is surely a crime.

Yet, in a Republic or a Democracy, citizens may choose and remove those who speak only to their self-glories, not of Him above or those soldiers sacrificed; not of the everyday person’s self-sacrifice. He plots and in isolation, he’d have you flounder believing every typed character, every Slytherin parcel-tongued lie rasped. Not the truth that he’s cast on his belly and is nourished in slime. You’re not great because of him, but you are great despite him.

We, your ever watchful neighbor, curse the writing on the wall. Sometimes you’re all too near to see the deception that slips through every crack. Thistle-thorned, tree trunk-sized weeds, poisoning all right. But, if you blocked his words and turned away, gave him no more votes or attention. If you ignored him as a child who tantrums, and slammed the door to his room — his words and lies would fade, no more cats yowling. You could be as one who enters into a serene and secret garden, where suddenly, the silence of blubbering ceases, and your mind crystallizes.

You are the people, and no matter your past vote, you have more power than one man’s ploys. You can forbid his doctrine and not remain astray. While you’re a host of greatness forever reclaiming your liberation, you’ve also the freedom to make his presence, his disturbed and loquacious visit, a memory. Everyone falters, everyone knows the anger of manipulation — we’re all human. So, revise your independence for you all as, “We the People,” are the way to greatness.

  1. Read the words in ‘regular’ font.
  2. Read the words in bold font only.
  3. Read the poem as you would a normal poem.

Such honest words / words brimming with vitriol,

I give to you, my heart and soul/ pricked by a venomous demonic snake,

I leave you, all my virtue true/ virtue could cure the poison invading;

But you don’t believe in honesty/ to be rid of such hatred, such turmoil, such rage;

You’ve a game you call ‘secrets and lies’/pain incinerates, but you play on.

No one understands your game/ betting against yourself always, you incriminate.

You’ve set the rules/ I cannot win; I’m the pawn, I’m the fool.

You always score, each game, each set / you judge me; achieving a win, you’re guaranteed not to lose.

 You don’t understand your character flaw / why shouldn’t I try to fight steadfast for your love?

You’ve hubris; I’m afraid of your poetic downfall / the Bard wrote of love, can’t you read those poems?

Words reaching out as if they were / syllables of glass, shattered and splintered;

Creeping vines, ensnaring you / as if they were words, lavish with ardor, enchanting.

Trapping you until you cannot move / safekeeping your person; holding you dear.

Putting you in a sleeping spell, brier rose / I brush back your hair, as the drugged lethargy falls.

With benevolent sorcery, you’re reclaimed / you remain mine; unharmed and kept safe.

Asleep but a moment; complicated lies as clouds drift away / I, wondering why you chose deceit?

I offered you truth, the elder twin first / honesty is all I want to hear,

You chose deception, the younger sibling / I offer us both new life;

Your wicked lies entrap us both / hoping the only lies I hear from you again are white.

I can never concede to a life of falsehood/ there is compromise in honesty to be found.

My vines hold you tight / I’m guiding you, untangling you, from your web of lies.

Until honesty is the only breathe in your lungs/ until we both, only breath the truth of you and I.

Poem: Free Verse – ” Thoughts Spinning Before Thursday Night’s Sleep” #amwriting #poetry

———-

Spinning rhymes it’s my design.

I don’t why I am inclined.
———

I’m elated to write and tell my stories,

Truth and falsehood, real and imagined glories.

But tonight I think, I’m drained; editing all day.

Functioning through each line in my own way,

Build a dream, imagine a story which could be told,

Hope I don’t have to show my hand and fold.

——-

Spinning rhymes, it’s my design,

I don’t know why I’m inclined.

——-

So much to research and to discover,

Learning a never ending process and a dangerous lover.

Once you’ve tasted knowledge, it’s hard to forget the flavour;

Addictive, sweet chocolate, dark and soft inside, dissolving in my mouth; I savour.

Cannot forget the price of knowledge, it needs to be applied.

What good is knowing if we never use and try.

——–

Spinning rhymes, it’s my design,

I don’t know why I’m inclined.
——

Knowledge becomes experience and while we’re alive,

There’s need to know, about the paths which lead us to thrive.

They’re places which ensnarl our lives and never let go,

A wise person learns, to not tumble down, into a black hole.

The complexity of knowledge so vast,

Keep stumbling through life; it goes by fast.

———

Spinning rhymes, it’s my design,

I don’t know why I’m inclined.
——–

Help others whenever, wherever;

Let the words flow, and never let goodwill sever.

I’m alive and I’m well;

Though the summer heat already swells.

Not built for hot weather; ancestors from climates snowy.

But, I’m not a fan of bitter cold either you know.

——

Spinning rhymes, it’s my design,

I don’t know why I’m inclined.
——-

Autumns the time with fresh air and red leaves floating;

But in summer sometime, I’d like to try house boating.

Down the river flowing, all the showers I want;

Soaking in the sun, a life less daunting.

Realizing in my bathing suit, I was skinny when I thought I was fat,

And I miss being as fat as I was in my younger years past.

——–

Spinning rhymes, it’s my design,

I don’t know why I’m inclined.

——–

When I was in my early-twenties, we drank and ate all we pleased,

Know we count are calories, eat little, as if eating were a disease.

It’s problematic to let the children see how their parent’s party.

But I’m sure in a short while, they’ll have their own parties start.

Tired, now wishing for a descent slumber; peace in sleep,

Thursday night thoughts to count sheep.

——-

Spinning rhymes, it’s my design,

I don’t know why I’m inclined.

Look,

Wide eyes,

See the glare,

Mesmerized,

Sea salt tastes  — warm air,

What’s  forbidden, hidden,

And thoughts consume illusion.

Enter wide-eyed into the valley reside,

All you envisage in the storming,

Flames of falsehood overtakes all fathomed, burning.

—–

Chase the thought of memories, churning.

Life is bliss except when concern heeds,

Warning’s powerfully thrall.

Eyes with wisdom; embrace and see,

 Before judgement they follow,

Words the mind made hollow,

Significance points,

Persuaded now,

Of the fall.

Make this,

Right.

Sunday Photo Fiction: A Terrible Beauty

On an acre of land behind my Grandparents acreage and Church, was a decrepit house. My Grandpa swore it was deserted.
One day when my Grandparents were both napping inside, I crept towards the decrepit house behind our land.

I tiptoed slowly to the door of the ramshackle house and the door creaked loudly as I opened it. I saw a fireplace burning and in the corner a dirty bed with worn blankets. I noticed off to the side an ancient brass stove. It was hot when I touched it burning my finger.

Suddenly, I bumped into a filthy old woman with pale eyes. She smiled at me with menace.” Just what I needed” she said, “God has granted me new life, he has given me you. I needed the heart of a young girl so I could be young again.”

I began to cry and back away but the old woman, a witch, was behind me fast.  I felt myself falling into a deep sleep. But I could see what was happening to my body. The witch reached in my chest and pulled out my glimmering heart and pressed it into her own chest.

Instantly, I could see she was both terrible and magnificently gorgeose. She kissed my face, “Dear one,” she murmured and my body disappeared into thin air. She had a cursed beauty.

I awoke suddenly. I was in a tranquil place. My Great Grandmother, Molly, was brushing my hair.” She’ll kill again,” I murmered. Molly looked at me and grabbed my chubby cheeks in her hand.

 “Anna, she will receive her punishment in the end. Remember she is darkness, and light always drives out the darkness.”
