February: Please Be Good to Me!

February Please be good.
http://www.quoteswallpapers.net
I’ve been feeling pretty great lately. I never feel I’m one-hundred percent, but I am feeling better than I have in a couple of years. The medication change for me I went into hospital in July 2015 to complete, was effective. Although, it is difficult for me to wake-up earlier then 10:30 am on my best days, I am able to do activities around home until midnight.

Sometimes, I do still have a particularly, tiring day, and I need to sleep most of the day. But I feel I am at my best in the night and can achieve many of my daily goals. This drug I am on, clozapine, is supposed to heal your brain and help you improve each month you are on the drug. I hope it continues to help my health improve. There are many activities in life I would like to have the energy to accomplish. But I am sleeping well, and when you have insomnia sleeping well is always a plus.

Before Christmas, I did not feel I could go out at night. I didn’t have the energy for it and making the effort to get ready at night was extremely hard. But I have found since I am doing better at nights, I have been able to do more activities with friends. I attended my my friend K’s surprise 30th Birthday a couple of weeks ago ( I think I mentioned that in a poem) and I was at the hostesse’s house from 5:00 pm to 1:00 am and I felt fine. I expected to regret it the next morning but I felt alright. I was a tad tired but nothing a nap couldn’t fix. The party was a fun time with lots of wine and interesting conversation. It is crazy to see friends from university ( and friend’s of friends) as adults, with husbands, and children of their own.

I have also been feeling much better in the day time. When I wake- up, it takes me awhile to feel myself, but after an hour at most, I feel normal. I am able to write, research, scrapbook, do chores, go for a walk, or go out for an appointment or a date — whatever I need to be doing that day. I still time my outings so they occur every two-days and it helps me not become worn out. But I am also finding that my motivation has increased as well as my ability to mentally concentrate. I can concentrate for I’d say five hours or so writing, reading, and/or working on a project for school.

I am also interested in doing things I haven’t done in awhile. Over Christmas I started scrapbooking photos again. I do them the old fashioned way, by hand. But I enjoy it and I have fantastic scrapbooks full of memories. I have this tradition where I make mini – scrapbook albums for my friends who have recently gotten married. Unfortunately, I wasn’t motivated to scrapbook in two-years so I am behind. I have more pictures of my own to scrapbook but  I have completed two wedding albums for my friends T and J.

I am also working on the PopSugar Booklist, sort of . . .I find I do not have enough time or energy left in the day to read, especially when I am inspired to write a great deal. I am still half-way through reading ‘a book with a blue cover’ and I don’t know that I will finish the book I chose. I started another book I enjoy reading. It is the final book in a Romance/Action set of five books. The story moves along quickly and I feel more into this book. The other one is a little blah. So we’ll see how the list goes but I’m kind of thinking I will read what I like and I have a new book with a blue cover. I have always been a person who hated to have specific books assigned to read, if the books were not about a topic I was interested in. I am always surprised when a book I am assigned to read is fantastic these days. I read to escape and have fun so it is better to read what I feel like in the spur of the moment. I pre-order a few of my favourite writers on iBooks but mostly I read a book I feel like reading at the time.

Writing is time consuming. Especially now that my novel is planned out. I am half-way through writing the book. Thanks to those of you who have been giving helpful and encouraging comments. The book is at a point where I have to start building towards the defeat of the antagonist and provide resolution for my protagonist Nina. I’m excited to do write more but each chapter is a lot of work. Even after I post a chapter, I see so many corrections which need to be made. I leave it for a few days and sometimes I still miss obvious mistakes and areas of the chapter which don’t sound quite right.I know after I’ve done corrections (sometime in the near future)I’m going to be going back and taking out parts that are unnecessary and adding in parts that are needed. I will be combining chapters, moving parts around, and breaking chapters a part.

Writing a novel is a long process I am learning, one which I have only begun. But my goal as I have said in some of my comments, is completing a first-draft. After the first-draft is complete I can start to look at helpful and constructive comments more closely and complete a better second and/or third draft.  I want to have my novel edited professionally eventually.

If you know of any talented editors or you are one, please send me a note. I’m looking for someone who has experience but who is not too pricey. Might be impossible! But I am looking for the kind of editor who will look over the book as a whole. I can’t remember the title used for this kind of editor, the name escapes me. I will need this editor to be someone who will honestly tell me what works in my novel and what needs rewriting. After,  I will look at obtaining the services of a copyeditor. But I amthinking too far ahead. Those steps are a long way off. For now, I’m aiming for a complete first-draft.

I had the pleasure, of having brunch at one of my bestfriend’s condo yesterday. I haven’t seen her in months so it was exciting to see her and her new fiance and hear all about their wedding plans and their other plans for their future together. The fiance cooked a wonderful breakfast. I was sorry I had to make them wait in the morning. My cab took off  when I told him to wait one minute for me to put my boots and coat on. He was already fifteen minutes late, so I guess hanging around was too much for him. Luckily, Co-op cab is awesome most of the time and the driver who came at 11:30 am was excellent. I am grateful I got to visit with S and her fiance A for awhile. And I am looking forward to their wedding at a warm destination in 2017. I will be saving my money in hopes I will have the health and wealth to be there.

S gave me a wonderful belated Birthday and Christmas gift. It was so thoughtful. I received loot from David’s Tea, including some lip balm which I needed because my lips are dry. The lip balm is like this lip balm (in the picture below) only a different flavour. It is infused with Tea for flavouring and is hydrating for your lips. S also got me some chocolate flavoured Tea from David’s which I was introduced to yesterday at her house. It’s yummy! I also received a wonderful tin of strawberry flavoured tea bags to make real iced tea in the summer so I am anxious to try that tea when the weather is warm.

S also bought me this awesome face mask from Sephora which was very moisturizing. It was called the Sephora Rose Sleeping Mask. I woke this morning with the most wonderfully hydrated skin. I thought there was a lot of mask in one package at first but I layered it on and it all sunk into my skin by morning. I recommend trying one of Sephora’s sleeping masks. The rose mask, if nothing else, is perfect for dry winter skin.

One of my favourite actors is an Irish actor named Jamie Dornan. S managed to find me an adult coloring book of Jamie Dornan. I thought it must have been a completely random find, but I love it and will attempt to colour in it and make Jamie look artistic. It is the perfect activity to do when I am feeling like not doing anything too stressful, just relaxing.

In case your interest is peaked, here is some basic information on Jamie Dornan. If you are wondering where you’ve heard of him, he used to be a famous Calvin Klein model and dated Keira Knightley early in her career. He was Christian Grey in Fifty Shades of Grey and will be in both sequels. He is also in a mini series in it’s third season with Gillian Anderson from the X-Files, called The Fall. Season 1 and Season 2 can be found on Netflix. I have also seen Jamie in a few other random movies; he is a talented actor and I think his career is only beginning. And I did like him as an actor before Fifty Shades, so we’re clear. I think he is incredibly hot as well, even when he wears a beard which he often does. But he is happily married to an actress named Amelia who is pregnant with their second child. Nevertheless  I believe I’m allowed a movie star crush.

Additionally, when I was on YouTube today watching the Pixiewoo’s in some of their latest makeup tutorials, I found a great Youtube video on how to do a polished chignon. It seems a bit complicated but it’s not. The video is easy to follow and the style is perfect for medium to long hair. I think you would have to do this Chignon on first day hair as the look you are trying to achieve is not messy but neat.

Chignon YouTube Video (You have to go into my blog on WordPress to see the video.)

I also was excited to replace my trusty original Ipad Mini. I saved up from Christmas and received a hundred dollars for my old one, and replaced the original mini with the Ipad Mini 4. This Ipad 4 Mini is faster, plus it has 64 GB of memory compared to my old one which only had 16 GB. It is great to write blog posts on and to slip into my purse if I’m going to a coffee shop because of it’s size. It holds my entire music collection and book collection with plenty of space left. I did not opt for the Ipad with a possibility for a SIM card as I can find excellent WIFI for my Ipad 4, most places. Glad to be able to use an Ipad again. My only complaint would be is Apple hasn’t managed to increase the battery life in four models.

One last topic to cover: I have been doing Weight Watchers online for about a month. I find it hard to stay inside the number of points you have available to eat, despite the fact fruit and veggies are worth no points. To bad they are so expensive right now! But I have lost about four pounds, that is what I put on at Christmas. I am continuing on with Weight Watchers trying to lose twenty-one more pounds. I’m not sure it’s possible. I am also looking into diet, energy, and weight supplements a friend is trying from a company called XYNGULAR. I did a lot of research on Xyngular’s products today. I am undecided on whether the products will truly work or not. I have read mixed reviews. I am going to an event with more information this Saturday.

The products are quite expensive so I would only want to do the products I want, not a package of products. Also, I think I have to be careful being on medications. A pharmacist did say the list of ingredients was okay for me but I have taken supplements before which  didn’t work because of their interference with medications and because they didn’t work. I might try a few products at the end of February. It is money back garuenteed for thirty -days, but that always comes with it’s problems. Wish me luck!

Thanks for reading!

Writing and Blogging: An Experience through Other Writers and Bloggers.

Laptop Writing
http://www.creativenauts.me
The more time I spend blogging. The more time I put into it. I think I have been writing a blog for three or four years now. At first, I wrote randomly and not often. I did not know much about WordPress and how it worked but I have learned many things about blogging and writing along the way.

At first, I was focused mostly on my writing and improving how I wrote. I think it has become a continuous goal for me to improve my writing but I have discovered so many fascinating and informative blogs from others along the way on how to improve my writing. One extremely helpful blog is Ryan Lanz who often has guest bloggers on any number of topics about improving your writing skills. Also, Amirhosein Ghazi has a number of posts on improving your writing.

These blogs and many more have been immensely helpful in crafting my writing. I know there is mistakes in everything I publish. No matter how hard I try to proofread and edit, mistakes always slips through. And if it wasn’t me, it was auto-correct on my Iphone or Ipad. Auto-correct drives me crazy at times! But do know, on my actual blog, I always correct my writing. So, if something is not making sense on the blog sent to your email you can always go to my actual blog homepage and the mistake should be corrected. I adore writing but my weakness is editing. I learned this through three editing courses through Simon Frazier University. I was going to do a certificate in Editing but an editor who only catches sixty or  seventy percent of editing mistakes isn’t good enough to edit professionally.

Courses that have also been of great aid to me have been Creative Writing

Writing Notebook
http://www.awritersprocess.wordpress.com
courses from the University of Alberta and Simon Frazier University online. Blogging courses through WordPress have also been immensely useful. I have meant many other bloggers through these courses and connected. I have also learned much about my writing and how to better be an honest storyteller. I have picked up tips such as ‘showing’and not only ‘telling’ in a piece of writing (thanks to Priceless Joy). I have learnt how to be more descriptive but also learnt one can go overboard with descriptive words. One interesting aspect I have learned is when your characters are having a conversation the word ‘said’  is alright to use over and over again. You can insert a few other words when the situation allows such as ‘shouted’ or ‘murmured’ but in general when your writing creatively in a story, you don’t want to throw your reader off by doing what we were all taught in high school and even in university to do. Do not write ‘said’ a different way every time it needs to be used.

Another great piece of advice given to me by Andy (whose blog I couldn’t find for you) was to make something happen in the story, an inciting incident and/or a problem. He used the example of Lord of The Rings: Frodo has an evil ring and stays home and drinks tea, isn’t an exciting story; but Frodo has an evil ring and goes out on an adventure to destroy the ring, is a great tale.

I have also learned to leave out certain words. It is a difficult objective to achieve with some of these words. These words include words such as ‘very,’ ‘quite,’ ‘just,’ ‘obviously,’ ‘rather,’ and the hardest word ‘that.’ In a writing course in university I was also told never to start a sentence with ‘this,’ but I haven’t managed to not use ‘that’ and not use ‘this’ at the same time. Maybe you will have better luck. If you are not sure if any of these words don’t work try writing a sentence you were going to use them in without these words because your sentence will sound clearer. Certain times I believe you have to use one of these words. Such as maybe something was actually obvious in your story. Or you have to use ‘just’ or another word because it is how your characters talk, In real life most of us talk using these words but talking can be different then writing.

Anyways, I have done many WordPress courses. I have done writing, blogging, and photography multiple times. I have done 101 and 201 courses. Not only meeting and interacting with other bloggers is important but reading varied takes on a prompt. Other people have ideas you would never think about writing about. Each person has their own experiences and imagination to draw from. Other bloggers and these courses fuel me with thoughts for future blog posts. They give me ideas or I become aware of different writing challenges being held such as Flash Fiction writing prompts through pictures, daily word prompts, and events going on in the larger writing community such as National Writing Month for poetry or writing a book. Additionally, the blogging  courses taught me how to improve the look of my blog to be more professional and to expand it to other types of social media. I’m not sure my blog is completely professional looking yet but it gets better through time. And I hope more professional, the more I write and learn how to use WordPress blogging tools.

Something I have truly tried to focus on is adding new bloggers to receive posts from and reading other bloggers work. It is impossible to read every blog I get but I do try to read most of them. The list keeps on growing but there is only so much time I can do this in. Blogging is becoming a career. I spend time writing my blogs, time appreciating other bloggers who comment on my work, and commenting on other blogs I enjoy. It is excellent to be able to have your work critiqued and to critique other people’s work. It adds to your own writing of blogs a great deal. Also, it is interesting to note in challenges such as Flash Fiction, what each writer will perceive out of one picture used as a prompt.

My greatest discovery lately comes from a lady who tells you how to plan

Writing Thank You

out a novel in a serious of blogs. I’m excited to try her method and make my novel come back to life. I’m unsure whether to re-plan or start a new novel because I have been stuck on this manuscript for almost a year. But I like my characters a great deal. You can check out what I am talking about here by Georgina Cromarty. I have linked you to part 1 of her Simple Guide to Writing a Novel. I believe she is on Part 6.

So in closing, thank you to everyone who has ever read, commented, glanced, critiqued, agreed, or disagreed with my blog. A blog is supported by a community of readers and writers and I’m thankful for you all.

How’s Your Year Shaping Up So Far?

Prompt: How is this year shaping up so far? Write a post about your biggest challenges and achievements thus far.

It’s a difficult task to look at your year in terms of challenges and accomplishments and put it all in perspective. I suppose I’d prefer to turn the question back on you and have you comment on how your year has been thus far? Any takers? But in all seriousness it’s been an okay year. Nothing to brag about but nothing to get upset about either.

My biggest challenges I think revolve around my health and will for much of my life. If you think of yourself going to sleep most of you wake up with a full battery or a full amount of mental and physical energy. When I wake up in the morning I have three hours worth of physical energy in my battery and two hours worth of mental concentration. It was extremely disappointing for me when I lost physical and mental energy last summer and went down to the amount I currently enjoy. For me this means less time I can be out at night, less time I can be with my friends conversing, and less time I can spend studying for classes or spend reading. I really miss it! It also means less time I can spend walking around sight seeing and shopping on vacation and that hurts to as you know I am going to Las Vegas in two weeks.

Plus, the amount of exercise I can physically do is sad indeed. Recently, I have started doing 7 minutes of exercise a day — 15 squats, 15 push-ups, 45 seconds plank, 15 toe raises, 15 bicycle crunches, 15 knee raises, and 15 diagonal knee raises — and it was extremely tough beginning that and I’m proud I can do that but it still kills me that I can’t do more and that that is less then I have ever been able to do. Keeping my weight down is always an issue since I can’t exercise but I eat very carefully and try to eat small healthy portions. Of that I am proud.

I am proud of my online classes even though editing is not always the easiest task for me because of the detail involved. But I go over my work a number of times and mistakes are becoming easier to pick out as well as copy editing symbols easier to remember and use. I am also proud of myself for submitting fiction in a course and receiving good and bad comments I can learn from and rewrite some of the fiction I submitted.

I managed awhole year without a dog in the house. This may not seem like such a big accomplishment but when you are at home all day it is nice to have a companion. And I really miss Nikki at times, I still miss her, but I have managed to live without sharing my food, without tumble weeds of hair, without Nikki pestering me to go out every 5 minutes, I have managed to live without cuddles, without dog kisses, and barking every time someone comes to the door. These aspects of pets you adore and hate but you learn to live with them and miss them when they are no longer there.

I have taken many writing courses and thus, improved my writing. I have learned to think of new ideas to write about, to write pieces of fiction, and to give compliments and constructive criticism to other bloggers. I have written a lot of poetry some good and some bad and I have taken many pictures both good and bad as well.

To sum up my year, it has been a year of difficulties health wise and learning writing wise and I couldn’t be happier to have the year turn out like it did. Now is your turn, how was your year?

Too Faced Boudoir Palette and Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation

Too Faced Boudoir Palette www.sephora.ca
Too Faced Boudoir Palette
http://www.sephora.ca

1. Too Faced Boudoir Eye Shadow Palette – $45.00- http://www.sephora.ca – I absolutely love this palette it gives you three options of three different shadows for three varied looks. The look I use the least is the everyday look because I am so pale and the main color used for this is a whitish color that blends with my skin. However, it is still pretty and nice and light for those who don’t like to wear much eyeshadow. Along with the palette is a little booklet that tells you how to do each look so don’t fear if the three colors associated with a look seem intimidating. Too Faced makes it easy for those girls who aren’t so gifted with eye shadow to make themselves look fantastic. The second look is my favorite. You get to put this shimmery gold color all over your lid and lower brow and then a purplish color on your lid and then you shade in your crease with grey. It’s the normal look and it is fantastic. Also, I tend to use the going out look a lot when I am headed out in the evening. The main color is a light sparkly brown and of course black is used in the look in the end to highlight cat eyes or give a smokey look to your makeup. This palette is great. I have had it since Christmas and there is still tons of color left in even the smallest eye shadow. All the colors have cute little boudoir names and the whole thing comes in a great compact little tin. I completely recommend the palette and brand which I had never tried previously.

Bobbi Brown Liquid Foundation SPF 15 www.sephora.ca

http://www.sephora.ca

2. Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF 15 – $51.00-$56.00 – http://www.sephora.ca – I have found the foundation I will use as long as it exists. It is light, almost a bit runny, and it comes in 00 alabaster for pale skinned girls like me. There is such a variety of different shades and my shade is extremely hard to find so when I order (which I’m usually forced to do) I order two of the foundation. I put a little bit on the outside of my had and it blends into your face skin so nicely. It seems like it doesn’t quiet blend at first but let it sit on your face a few seconds then blend down with a brush and it will sit perfectly and flawlessly on your face. It doesn’t get very greasy if you  have oily skin and it doesn’t make you break out. Even though it is a bit of a runny foundation it covers flaws well.

Bobbi Brown Skin Foundation SPF 15 Stick www.sephora.ca

http://www.sephora.ca

If liquid foundation is not your game then you can try the same foundation in stick form for a little cheaper. It goes on smoothly and you don’t have to put it everywhere just in a few places on your face like your forehead, cheeks, chin, and tip of your nose and not every single space on your face. Then you blend it after with a brush on your face. I am using it right now because I couldn’t find my color in the liquid foundation and I’m very happy with the stick version. It is also great if you are vacationing because the pump on the liquid version won’t accidentally get pushed and get foundation everywhere.

My only concern is with how long this foundation lasts for the price. The liquid foundation lasts about two months but I think that the stick foundation is just going to last over a month and it is only five cheaper then the liquid. Nonetheless, it’s my favorite foundation ever and I recommend to everyone. I know I did a blog on the liquid foundation before but I wanted to compare it with the stick foundation since that is what I am using now.

Notes to Sleep By

I think I am having one of the most boring weeks of my life? I am well enough again after July to be up and about the house all day but I am finding myself a tad bored of reading which is saying something because I can usually read all day most days now and love it as I always have. English Major right here.

I don’t always feel that I need a nap in the day, daily chores, and preparing myself for the day only takes so long, even if I have chosen to do my hair in some special way since I have time.

I’m in this in-between stage where I’m healthy enough to be around the house but not quite healthy enough to be out and about doing too much, that just seems to exhaust me.

So, I walk a short distance — I still feel odd walking without a dog — and I concentrate as much as I can on some book, writing, and a tad bit of scrapbooking. I am trying to do more around the house but it seems when I get to rearranging things for more then a couple hours the usual fatigue kicks in. Same old problems.

I did happen to get together again with A over summer but he has been on a long vacation since the end of July visiting Paris, France, Morocco, and Barcelona, Spain. We’ve kept up communication well but I miss him a lot by this point, we’ve never been a part more then 3 weeks and although we message often I haven’t heard much lately so that usually means the cell reception is bad wherever he is in Morocco now.

He tells me he is coming home soon and I’m extremely looking forward to seeing him and hearing stories about his travels and all the friends and relatives he has seen. Although, I was happy to have a break to think before he left now I believe as the euphemism goes “absence makes the heart grow fonder.”

I’m also doing this Writing 101 mini – course through WordPress, it’s about writing every day for a month and writing on varied topics, so I’m excited to have a little something to do until my editing course starts in November by distance learning.

I will be taking Proofreading and if that’s full then I will take Copywriting, both beginner courses. I just think Proofreading is the place to start since it’s more of checking for grammar and spelling etc. kind of idea as opposed to Copywriting which could involve changing more significant grammar, wording, and maybe even changing some ideas that don’t quite make sense ( at least suggesting). But I am happy to do whatever course I end up in.

The next two weeks will be busier, I have a wedding a few coffee’ s and some errands, shopping, and a visit to my favourite, The Beauty Lounge. If I am fortunate enough, A will be back and I’m thinking if he returns in the day I could meet him at the airport. I certainly think he’s worth the cab fare. fall will pick up as it always does and I’m excited for when it does.

And then I Awoke!

www.telegraph.co.uk
http://www.telegraph.co.uk

It has been a frustrating past 3 weeks but the situation is looking up. I spent 3 weeks almost just sleeping trying to get use to an antipsychotic drug for sleeping. This drug would allow me to use less of another sleeping pill I need to sleep and give me greater cognitive clarity. But the truth is you never know how you are going to react to medications. There are so many side effects I wonder sometimes why we bother with them at all and I also wonder for the people taking them if they truly are helping them despite the side effects.

The medication I was on at only half a pill even just made me sleep. When I started to sleep a bit less I found myself extremely foggy and having even less energy then I had before. To give you some idea, walking from the beginning of one wing of Kingsway Mall to the end at of that wing made me extremely fatigued both physically and mentally. The mall wasn’t busy but it seemed noisy to me and I couldn’t really concentrate on looking at clothes or shoes or anything ( very odd for me), I just sat in a waiting area while my mom looked.

But I decided after that outing that this drug I was on was not to be because it wasn’t

www.eastsidefriendsofseniors.com
http://www.eastsidefriendsofseniors.com

fixing anything for me just making it worst. So I went back on my Gabepentin and felt extremely sleepy on that medication all day until yesterday when I finally felt awake enough and had energy enough to go downtown and just do simple errands such as going to the drugstore. I started gift shopping as I have 4 birthdays, Mother’s Day, and 2 baby presents to get. I have 2 birthday presents picked out and both baby presents. My brother will take care of the Mother’s Day present so I’m just left with 2 Birthday’s that I’m thinking I will leave until May, although I will have to make a stop at Papyrus or some card store before the middle of May.

www.telegraph.co.uk
http://www.telegraph.co.uk

Because I missed 2 classes of my Lighting course and I wasn’t sure how long I would miss class for I decided to drop the course. I wasn’t happy about it but I know after missing 2 3 hour classes I couldn’t catch up. So, in September I will be able to finally take that Residential Design course. I just want to get it over with but that is the soonest I can take it. I will see what courses they offer but maybe I will do Green Design if it is available — that course interests me a lot.

I also thought I could take an editing course instead at home in spring but it turns out nothing that I have perquisites for is available. So that is disappointing! I wish SFU had something I could take. But oh well I guess I will just have a long summer.

www.blogclarity.com
http://www.blogclarity.com

The worst thing about being home and asleep 24-7 was having to cancel plans with friends and A. Sometimes it is difficult to find times to visit people so I am kind of hoping I can replan events with not to much trouble. Also, since my boyfriend A has been home on sick leave from work I’ve seen him about a half hour in 3 weeks and that bothers me when he is actually home that I haven’t been well enough to have a decent conversation with him. I know once he goes back to work it will be 3 weeks on and 1 week off again but all the more reason to see him more now.

But I feel back to normal again and that’s such a relief. Take care everyone and have a good weekend!

Friday Mints

Xyla Mints Yum!
Xyla Mints Yum!

Yesterday, I showed you pictures with short descriptions on beauty and lifestyle items I had received from Luxe box. Was I impressed with all the items I got? Not necessarily. I was expecting more makeup — eye shadow or eye liner — something that I could try out a little more and actually buy again. The Fekkai shampoo and conditioner was average. But I expect more than just shampoo or conditioner samples from a subscription service, the nail Polish was ugly, the primer is good enough to use on my eyes but not my face, the cologne smells great on my boyfriend, and I’ve almost eaten all the Xyla mints they are delicious and gluten free if you’re interested  — they also are the title of this weeks blog, and the headband was a bit small. I’m hoping next season’s is better. Also, I definitely will reserve the good Luxe Boxes with all these cool makeup products for an extra 5 bucks next time. Had I done that this last time I would have had much better products. But live and learn.

So, I’m back on the Gabepentin and am sleeping well. I am going to ask my psychiatrist to let me add a bit more Dexedrine in the middle of the day to improve my concentration for my April Lighting class. I have gone down hill this past year in 2013 health wise in terms of ability to concentrate and do activities so something must have happened but maybe I can get it corrected. Health is difficult I’m finding that I am losing my nurse and could still very much use her to help facilitate issues related to my illness.

But I’m looking forward to Spring and going to a course with students again. I also am looking forward to finding out my marks from

www.eofdreams.com

Editing 110 now that I have finished all assignments. I can’t wait to finish another course in summer and do even more editing courses until I can have confidence that I can actually edit some clients work professionally. That’s the second reason I’m doing this Editing Program because I want to edit freelance. The first reason I am doing it is to improve my writing of course. I’m really thinking next in the way of Education for me will be the MFA at UBC in Creative Writing. So, I have to make my writing better too.

So, I’m just hanging out at my boyfriends while he is out for an hour or so. Yesterday he spoiled me again at supper with a beautiful salad and thin steak with mushroom sauce and mushrooms. It tasted wonderful. It is second to last weeks chicken dish. We slept great he was so cuddly last night I was secretly pleased because he’s not usually like that. Maybe it was cold? Everything between us is going great but I’m sure going to miss him when he is gone this summer when he goes home to Morocco.

Myself, I think I may end up going somewhere with airmiles but I’m not sure. My Dad said I could use some of his. And I have a bunch of airmiles saved up as well. But I’m hoping to save mine for Quebec next year maybe with my little brother? And I know there is snow on the ground but I can’t wait for summer festivals and warmth!

Tomorrow I am going out with my boyfriend and his cousin and the cousin’s friend. I am getting my haircut and colored and getting a facial this Wednesday and going to Divergent with my brother. I have to start reading Divergent before the next movie comes out. It is supposed to be fantastic. Any other suggestions of good books to read? I also have some scrapbooking that has been sitting on my desk downstairs forever. Time to work on a special Wedding Album for a friend’s wedding last summer! Plus, I have Montreal and Random pictures. But lately I haven’t taken so many pictures. It’s been disappointing after being scammed out of my DSL camera.

That’s all! Take care! I hope you find your Friday Mints — the sweet little treats in life that get you through the week!

A Recent Tale

These past few weeks have gone by quickly and quietly for me. Sometimes it is lonely being the only one at home during the day (except for the dog) but I have become accustomed to it and actually like it. I miss the social interactions one experiences day to day at a job or going to classes as opposed to doing them via internet or correspondence but I have also been a woman who through out her life loves the quiet and having the house to herself. If I want to go out and be around people I do. I go to yoga, for a walk, to the mall, for coffee, and to visit friends but truthfully, I need the quiet to do my school work in and just to be at peace. There is such sensory pollution around certain places that I can’t help but like a peaceful house.

Lately, I have become use to seeing A, my boyfriend, every couple weeks and have become spoiled in that regard. The current shift A is on is his first 3 week shift in quite awhile so it will feel like a lonely long time once we get through those 3 weeks. Truthfully, I think the first week A is away is the hardest week and then in the second two weeks of his shift up North I become involved in my usual activities and plan more activities to do with friends that I don’t notice the length of time as much. When A comes to visit a couple of days we hang out and a third day we usually go out to a club, for dinner, or to a movie. Sometimes we shop but I often find this time of year between winter and spring, there is not much selection of clothing and shoes in stores. Especially since this year it has been so cold because of that damn Polar Vortex. But maybe spring has come to Edmonton. It is supposed to be 13 degrees Celsius next Sunday.

I finally was able to bother my family doctor enough so that he would call in this drug that is supposed to give me more energy and is often used in Chronic Fatigue cases. It is actually just an antidepressant called Elavin. It has actually helped me a lot but not the way I was thinking it would help me. Elavin works so that you sleep better and therefore, have an increase in energy. I think I might feel a tiny bit more energized but at this time, just starting the medication I am mostly too to tell. In fact, it has worked so well for me sleep wise that I was able to stop taking 700g of Gabepentin and melatonin. Tonight I am going to try to lower the dose of Clonazapam that I take to stay asleep in the night. If I can cut back my sleeping medications until I am only taking 1 or 2 pills instead of 8 and some melatonin, I’ll be extremely happy. Whether or not the drug will work as something that will re- energize me, that remains to be seen.

( Okay. I wrote this blog 2 different days so the truth is this drug Elavin is actually horrible for me. Once, the Gabepentin was out of my system I couldn’t sleep at night. But in the day, however, I would sleep all day and no amount of napping was enough to keep me awake. I began to feel “out of it,” agitated, very impatient, and anxious. So today I went off the Elavin and feel so much better. I’m a little tired in the day still but nothing compared to these last few days. But I think this is it for me for medication trial and error until science advances. I don’t know why I have a mood disorder or some type depression and why there is a physical cause to it and not a psychological? I don’t know why this would cause an extreme lack of physical and mental energy? It’s nice to have answers but sometimes I think not having a diagnosis that is known means there are less diagnosis’ to limit me and what I am capable of doing.)

I have finished project #3 for my editing course and only have 1 project left that I will work on next week. I finished reading the study guide, additional readings, and a good portion of the textbook and am happy about how the course is coming along. I only hope my marks reflect that. I am looking forward to being done Editing and to do my last Residential Design course starting mid- April. Hopefully, I am able to put enough time into the workload for that class. Come summer, I also want to do a second editing course to keep busy. What that will specifically be on yet I’m not sure. ( Today I received a B on my second assignment in editing and was happy with that).

The weekend was a loss due to my health issues but I went to the mall a few hours and did a few errands on the Saturday just to get out. This week I want to finish my editing assignment ( the final one) and go for coffee on Thursday. I also hope to start up a yoga routine again at home, I have fallen away from that lately. Additionally, I am paying close attention to Nikki my dog, who is on her second round of steroids for her rheumatoid arthritis. I hope it works this round, poor dog!

So, there is a recent tale on my life. Things are as usual.

A Bit of Everything

www.people.bu.edu
http://www.people.bu.edu

It’s a Thursday morning and there is much to do. I have an assignment to copyedit. I need to go through the newsletter a couple more times to catch all the mistakes. And then I have a 3rd assignment to start. I would like to have it done by the end of February. The assignment is a letter advocating for your client (the author) to your editor or publisher. There is a lot of reading left in Chapter 5 of the Study Guide, in the Appendix, and in the textbook. I just keep on going, hoping I can finish this course before the next one starts and that I have enough ‘good days’ that I can work on my class.

But in-between that I am reading the 3rd book by Sylvain Renard, Gabriel’s Redemption,

www.en.wikipedia.org
http://www.en.wikipedia.org

and you know when you get hooked in a series of books that you just have to finish them. Especially when you get to the 3rd book in the series. And next I am thinking of an interesting undertaking. Since so much of this series from Sylvain was based upon Dante’s Inferno and it is probably free on Kobo, I am thinking that I must read that. I had heard of it in English class, heard that Milton’s Paradise Lost that I studied somewhat related, so I am excited to be reading some classic literature again, in the English version, not the Italian version of course.

photoshopI think that I am not quite done talking about weight and body issues. The problem is I read an article on it and I think how ridiculous it is especially to the extent in which magazines, companies, etc. are photoshopping their models. Now, I’ve always felt that a little photoshopping is good. Enhancing the beauty of the model that is already there, there doesn’t seem to be anything wrong with that except that the media has different standards of beauty. Maybe we just need to try to leave models looking the way they look without photoshop except for obvious flaws that no one would like showing such as acne or a tattoo in certain pictures. But sometimes it is too much. I recently saw on an entertainment show a spread for Nicole Kidman who is not young anymore. She looked like she was 22 years old when I’m pretty sure is or is nearly double that age. There is something wrong with that because that is not an attainable look for anyone, including Nicole Kidman. And she is beautiful just the way she is at the age she is. I also watched a slide show where a plus size model was thinned down from her size 12 or so silhouette to a size 4. There was nothing wrong with the way the model looked before, she just looked normal, so why would you change her?

I have never wanted to model before really. It has to do with being in the spotlight. But after some special professional pictures for

www.returnofkings.com
http://www.returnofkings.com

my boyfriend and myself, and some portraits for family and relatives I decided it was actually really fun. I could see how I looked in the pictures the photographers took on the camera and I looked good. Friends told me I looked good. And the strangest thought crossed my mind that if I was tall enough and young enough I would consider plus size modeling because I really think that women and girls need to see what a real woman looks like with little computer perfecting besides blemishes, shiny skin, and bad lighting. Some people would probably say you should show those too but I believe there are good uses for photoshop. But more than that, I believe that we need to as a society step out of that box where we adore thin woman and start showing an ideal that is normal size healthy woman. I have spoken of it so much before and maybe too much. But it saddens me that people would have so much conversation on this subject and that there would be so little change. Dove had the right idea a few years back, even though those commercials annoyed me. Anyways there is one magazine online that I wanted to share with you that I think is great for showing plus sized models while maintaining the look and feel of a magazine like Instyle. The magazine is called DARE and it’s an online magazine that you can take a look at here: http://daremag.uberflip.com/i/126563 .

But that’s all I have to say on that I promise for a good long while. I am watching Team Canada Men’s vs. Norway now on CBC. I am excited to say we are up 2-0. Hopefully, that will be an easy win for us but surprisingly, we are not scoring as easily as I thought. But I hope you are enjoying the Olympics for whatever country you might be from. I love the Winter Olympics, for Canada they are the most exciting!

Also, decided to give up Pepsi for good. The only exception will be once a week when I start my night class as I can’t stay awake without it. Otherwise, I’ve been drinking water and following my diet exactly. I have lost 2 lbs in 3 days so that it pretty exciting. It takes 21 days they say for you to get into the habit of doing something so I’m hoping I can stay in this habit. I have drunk a lot of water which I needed to do before but didn’t really do and I have 1 treat a day now a low-fat granola bar that has chocolate on the outside.

Otherwise, I have dealt with a car rental issue my boyfriend and I had a car rental place. They claimed these little scratches under the car that you had to lean over to see, and were from winter like ice, something no one can help in Edmonton, were damage. The manager was so rude to my boyfriend and I and A refused to sign for the damages. The manager wouldn’t give us a ride home, she told us to walk away and get out of the store. She said she didn’t know anything about cars but that the plastic part of the bumper underneath of the car needed painting and she wouldn’t rent the car out to us even though she had said she would before on the phone, because she couldn’t trust us not to damage the car. As if we did whatever invisible damage she saw on purpose. I have never dealt with someone so un-customer-serviced oriented especially dealing with a client of 2 years. Her tone, her mannerism, was angry and defensive. I was not impressed at all and we had to pay $40.00 cab to get back to my boyfriends apartment.

So up’s and downs this week. But overall pretty good! So two beauty blogs coming out soon for some more LUSH and Benefit and products. Also, maybe I will share with you some of the hair videos I like that are great for easy everyday styles you can do with your hair that take minutes. Take care

Say Something Beautiful

Say something beautiful . . . sometimes I think I have been ruined by Romance books because real men don’t talk beautiful, at least the ones I know. Ask them to explain why they like you and its simple words such as your pretty, your patient, your sexy, and there is nothing wrong with these words. But I just don’t think men talk as Christian Grey when he describes his Anastasia and her beauty or even how singers sing about women in songs. In fact, most of us don’t seem to have much poetry in us when it comes to love. But I think that the simple words are good enough because it is the simple words and simple actions that men and women say and do for each other that make us the happiest.

Case in point, My boyfriend A took me on ” a date” a couple of weeks ago and it was special just because he called it “a date, ” he picked me up, and he was interested to hear what I had to say. He wasn’t on the couch looking at Kijiji going “uh huh” but he took the time to actually focus on us and what we were both up to, it was wonderful. We ate dinner and shopped around West Edmonton Mall a bit and I really appreciated the evening.

Everything was going fantastic until he received a bad haircut from some hairstylist at Spasation. I felt bad because I had suggested the salon because I have a membership card that gets me 10% off of products and services at Spasation. Plus, I like the Spasation downtown a lot. They give good massages, and decent haircuts, and wonderful pedicures. But if I’m honest, I go to a place called Chrome to get my hair cut and hilighted because they just do a better job, so I guess it’s my fault and I shouldn’t have sent my boyfriend to the West Edmonton Mall Spasation. I should have said, “Go to Eveline Charles because at least your guaranteed to receive a decent haircut at that salon even though it costs more.” But other than that, it was a good evening and it is a lucky break that men’s hair seems to grow fast because it is so short.

My boyfriend also became a Canadian citizen yesterday. I was proud but sorry I couldn’t be there to see him receive his certificate. He is excited to receive his passport and travel somewhere outside of Canada and Morocco where he is from.  I am hoping I can go with him on vacation but I will have to see. I’m still on a budget, especially at this time of year after Christmas and Boxing Week.

I felt awful for my poor dog Nikki who is an American – Eskimo Terrier. She is 12-years old and we thought she just had arthritis because she ran great distances with family members when she was younger and faster. Then, her paws underneath her elbows and knees (I don’t know what you call them in dogs) began to swell up enormously. She had trouble walking and spent so much time just sleeping downstairs and not even touching her food. The swelling didn’t go away and finally we brought her to the vet and the vet said it could be arthritis or Lyme disease. We got blood tests and it turns out it is not Lyme disease or something with her kidneys (etc.) but she has Rheumatoid Arthritis.

This is a relief because it means my family did not over-run her but it is also upsetting because it is an auto-immune disease, so her immune system is attacking her joints and causing them to inflame. She has to be on steroids when her arthritis acts up, painkillers, and a vet is going to teach us how to do doggy physiotherapy for her. I imagine I will be doing this physiotherapy in the day because she lets me touch her paws and she doesn’t let a lot of other people, even her pack (the rest of the family), touch all of her. But at least we know what she has and can manage it appropriately. I hope that she doesn’t get too arthritic. She comes from dog breeds who both are long living breeds so she could have this for 6 to 8 more years unfortunately.

I am using a new sleep medication called Gabapentine. It works well once you get use to it. I was taking too much melatonin to fall asleep because that was the only medicinal product that worked but now after getting used to Gabapentine and getting over the initial day time tiredness, I love it. I had forgotten how good it is to sleep so deeply and well. Commonly, Gabapentine is used for patients who have seizures to help them sleep deeper but it is more for the drowsy side effect that I am using it. And so far so good. But I haven’t heard anything from my family doctor about the Chronic Fatigue medication yet so hopefully I hear back from him soon, when he gets back from vacation next week.

I want to deal with side effects of the Chronic Fatigue medication you see because I have just received all but my text-book for my Editing 110 course. So far the course looks great! It won’t be to hard but if I finish early, I will start another course. I mailed in the first assignment that is worth 10 % and I have 3 more assignment worth 30 % and a great deal of reading to do in my Study Guide and textbook eventually. The assignments don’t look too hard, but it is only a 100 level course. However, I better not say too much about it being an easy course because I do not want to jinx myself and then not be careful when I am doing my assignments. I need a B- in all of these editing courses I will be doing because that is the requirement to get the certificate. I will take a few courses before I apply to the program, maybe even most of the courses because you can apply anytime for the certificate.

But editing seems quite interesting and I was already learning a lot of material I’d forgotten looking up why certain sentences were grammatically and otherwise incorrect. I have a good deal of experience proofreading and I think it will just be a matter of watching that I am careful to be detailed and learning all those interesting facts about the editing process which will maybe help me publish a book one day, or some articles, or a story or two.

This weekend, I am looking forward to going to lunch with my friend and giving her her Birthday/Christmas present. I saw her lots in the summer but not often since then. We are going to the new Cactus Club downtown. I must make sure to eat healthy as my new sleep medication made me put weight on as I suspected. So it’s back to measuring food and living off of salad. But I will be much more comfortable in my skin when I am 10 lbs down again, so will my clothes lol. I also have to see my boyfriend again as he is up and bring him his new stuff for his apartment. I ordered him some towels (etc.) and items that he needed. And I’m looking forward to receiving my ” New Year’s Present,” but I don’t know what that is so I’m waiting in anticipation.

Take care, that’s all for now!
