——-

Poor little Anne tried,

So hard to fit in; she can’t —

Conform to their look.

Sense of presence in her glance,

Terror; they don’t know freedom.

——-

Yet Anne tries and tries,

To be a cardboard box just —

Like all the others.

Left alone at recess eating,

Ripe oranges, she’s exotic fruit.

——

But they don’t invite —

Her to their parties, Anne cries,

She doesn’t see why,

She has to be so different,

A plant from foreign soil torn.

—-

Anne grows into her —

Self; she stops being afraid,

Sees her beauty is —

That she’s unique not like all,

Those other girls, loathing her.

——

In grade school there’s this —

Small boy painted in war paint,

His Dad went to war,

He didn’t return home, saddened —

Anne helps him; he remembers —

——

So years later they’re —

Attached — those girls all want him.

But his friend is his —

Love; she was with him,

All along; the handsome man,

Love’s different, not perfect Anne.

—–

Though she struggles hard,

Hoping for female friends, he says,

He loves imperfect her,

Because she doesn’t have to

Be ‘like them’; she can be good.

——

Then she starts meeting —

Others, women who become —

Her tribe, with her guy.

The gazes of jealousy —

Double, but Anne doesn’t care.

——-

Anne is as a bird,

A swallow singing sweetly.

She’s lively, vivid;

Her eyes shine bright; he loves his —

Anne, contently, completely.

NaPoWriMo: Poem – Doubles – Couplets – ” Considering My Mirror Image”

And now for our prompt (optional, as always). Because today marks the halfway point in our 30-day sprint, today I’d like to challenge you to write a poem that incorporates the idea of doubles. You could incorporate doubling into the form, for example, by writing a poem in couplets. Or you could make doubles the theme of the poem, by writing, for example, about mirrors or twins, or simply things that come in pairs. Or you could double your doublings by incorporating things-that-come-in-twos into both your subject and form. Happy writing!

Please see NaPoWriMo for more information. Today’s poem will be written in Couplets.

A paradox of seeing self in my grey eyes,

A confusing being desiring beauty prize.

Finding uniqueness without gazing into mirror,

Unsure of my own reflection, revere her?

Looking glass reveals, beauty is so differing.

Reflection in mirror, me staring, lingering.

Double in the glass appearing in reality,

Unsure what to say, we don’t agree, no clarity.

Do I adore how my double appears to look?

Image of woman, how she is, open lost book.

So, many ways I try improving her reflection.

She looks, how she does, not ideal perfection.

I’m at peace with her, still changing her direction.

Mirror image God formed but I’ll alter complexion,

Skincare, makeup adored, new image each morning,

My inspection of self leaving me yet forming,

The double of my mirror, only me conforming,

Looking fatigued, woman who’s stuck performing.

Poem: Etheree – ” He Won’t Say — Ever”

Thanks to The Daily Post for the word prompt clarity.

—–

The two of us have clarity, we’re clear.

We’ve a new relationship,

But you’ll never say the word yet,

Might always call us a “thing,”

It’s too much pressure for,

A guy to say it’s real,

He’d rather hack,

His hand off,

Then say,

It’s —

—-

Clear.

It’s a,

Dating thing,

And I love her,

She’s who I want to,

Spend my days with and,

She’s beautiful and,

Actually, we’re serious.

I’m not going to play games, anymore.

She’s the girl I’m going to marry soon —

Kidding, he’d never say, he’s much too afraid.

Photography101- Day 19 – Double Trouble or Triple

He hit me on the head, was sure my eyes had bled.

The doppleganger image hit me, and it lingered as I fell,

I didn’t know if there were two, or if I saw just one.

But I was sure inside me, that I was seeing double.
