Day 5 – NaPoWriMo/A to Z Challenge: Poem – A L’Arora – “Steps To Eternity” #amwriting #poetry #NaPoWriMo #AtoZchallenge

For Day 5, the NaPoWriMo poetry prompt is ” to write a poem that is based in the natural world: it could be about a particular plant, animal, or a particular landscape. But it should be a slice of the natural world that you have personally experienced and optimally, one that you have experienced often.” The accompanying A to Z Challenge today starts with a GoodRead’s author’s quote, with a name beginning with the letter E.

“I’d rather have roses on my table than diamonds on my neck.” ― Emma Goldman

*****

Down the path of foliage, between all the trees,

It’s where I find my space, my home sweet home.

There’s something about crisp green leaves,

Wet after the rain, while the dew clings, not letting go.

With road passing through, steps to eternity,

Enthrall me in summer’s breath, the scent of the morning,

Let me stay in mother nature, her security.

*****

Tree branches entwining, limbs gripped with passion,

Used to the presence of parallel lovers.

They’re completely attached, unwilling to let go,

Nymphs holding fast, enraptured with each other,

With the road passing through, steps to eternity,

Absorbing the thrill of the mid-summer fairy dance.

Let me stay in mother nature, her security.

*****

Some brilliant reckless person crafted this road,

Travelers speeding through trees, guarding the sacred path.

Some pause knowing they’ve discovered sanctuary,

Freedoms breeze, they’ll stop to admire the sentinels guarding.

With the road passing through, steps to eternity,

A place where verdant nature, holds a secret prosperity.

Let me stay in mother nature, her security.

*****

For hours I’ve wandered through lush trees,

Delicate roses growing, shadowed by dripping leaves.

Overcome am I, by epic beauty, of roses sweetly pink,

Crushing them in my hands, to absorb the memories.

With the road passing through, steps to eternity.

Inhaling the fragrance of aspiring life, in roses soft,

Let me stay in mother nature, her security.

Night calling and it bleeds with today’s pain,

Your words, riddles linger, we’re both to blame;

Shower of diamonds, your words cut, blood rains.

It’s the anger you give me, my heart strains
To feel the comfort, the closeness, not this hate;

Can I forgive? Your inner monster reigns.

He doesn’t hit; he’s inside you unsated
He’s your temper, you destroy us, words dwell

Lips sting abusive words, past ignites, lost faith.

You think I won’t forgive; I’m your lover, a shell,
I don’t want to live as Belle, trapped in prison.

I know beast’s heart; goodness hidden in hell.

This nightmare, sleeping alone, nothing given,
Brought us down, broken paths, this our last night?

You want sleep, you want peace — but I’m livid.

I’m tired of the bore, this game playing, our fight,
So I’ll wrap the sheet around you, I’m stupid

I care you’re warm, your sight gives me hope — light.

My soul’s battered, yours is too, let’s erase —
Our problems; your eyes lift, I stroke your face.

Night calling and it bleeds with today’s pain,

Your words, riddles linger, we’re both to blame.

Poem: Etherees – ” Diamonds, Suits, and Equality.”

———–

I could keep on telling you of all the —

Possibilities, endless in row,

Diamonds glittering, light within,

Such falseness in clarity,

Like you, extensively cheap —

You don’t comprehend,

Lies kill love and —

Con-artists,

Thrive; I

See

—-

Through,

Your lies,

You’re glass with,

Fractured cracks split,

In all directions,

Blaming me because you’re,

A lost boy never grown up,

Buying your way with jewels and,

Expensive booze on your breath; putrid,

The smell, of vanity, and self-deceit.

——-

Broken old man, in business suit glaring,

Imagining you’ve an empire but you’ve,

Only got a shilling and its,

Currency long past, not used,

So pay for your glitter,

Die for Diamond rings,

You’ve only things,

And no ounce,

Substance,

Fake.

—-

Look

Down on,

Condescend,

From you high horse,

Fall on marble, crack,

You’re a paragon,

Sayings of virtue spent,

Lying with each word on your tongue,

Never saying what you mean and —

Not receiving your just dessert,

Razing a woman below your boot,

It’s not Madmen; she cares not for jewels.

—–

Rather, she wishes you’d respect her more,

Pay her equal for the same type of job,

Not peer down on her to use her,

Not think she is stupid with —

Her four-year-degree not —

Good enough for you,

She isn’t going,

To be stuck,

Keeping,

Home.

—–

Jewels,

Don’t phase,

Her more than,

A moment’s past–

She sells them all back,

Letting you see she’ll toss,

Your silly rock she’ll not be —

That girl; she fought for her place and,

The dealings were rough; no respect for —

Her a diamond unformed a jewel still scorned.

——-

In modern world she’s disgusted with the —

Throw-back to Don Drapper; but even he told,

His teen daughter “You’re beautiful –

The rest is up to you; TV —

Showing reality and,

The issue at hand,

Equality means,

Woman, Man,

Same.

Flash Fiction for the Aspiring Writer: No One Dresses Up Anymore.

“I feel overdressed, ” Shannon told Aubrey. Both girls were dressed in silky cocktail gowns and wore sparkly stiletto sandals. Shannon had even worn her Mother’s diamond earring and Aubrey’s her Grandma’s emerald cuff.

Aubrey gazed around the restaurant. Most people were dressed in jeans and the odd person wore professional attire.

“My Grandma told me this was a fancy restaurant,” Aubrey sputtered. “She dresses in her finest when she comes here. She showed me the mink coat she wears over a long gown.”

“Well, whatever . . .” Shannon said. She flounced up to the hot maitre’d and told him they had reservations for two. The maitre’d devoured both girls with his eyes and grinned.

“What’s the special occasion ladies?”

“Oh, we’re here for supper and then out to the Opera, Carman.” Aubrey told the maitre’d who kept staring at her.

“No one dresses up anymore here, or at the Opera. It’s refreshing to see you two in cocktail dresses. Jeans are worn for most any occasion these days.” The maitre’d said flirting with Aubrey.

Shannon laughed. “Do you ever get an elderly woman here wearing a mink coat? She’s probably more overdressed than us?”

The maitre’d chuckled. “Mrs. Reston, she comes here every Sunday covered in her diamonds and furs.”

Aubrey grinned. “Yep. That’s my Grandma.”

Flash fiction for Aspiring Writers: “Demonic Beauty”

Enclosed in the bar, eyes magnify; temptress in red, silk sliding on skin.

Sway in her hips, a tease of the senses. Men breathless consent, adoring sin.

Striding with ease, heels ruby with diamonds. Naked shoulders shimmer, anticipating.

Treading softly, fallen in red fire, elusive, and beguiling; illusion of flames sating.

Moving her hips, licking cherry red lips; coal glimmer in demonic eyes.

Sensations burning, engulfs her body; seething, writhing, building her disguise,

A vestige of power; she’s the tyger enticing, an allusion to Eden, of poisonus lies.

Decisive, sauntering closer, flicking hair, tar-black as the ash before Lent.

Peer into eyes, a glimmer of gold, metal men grieve for; silence, fire scent.

A vision, a curse, a whisper in vain — animating, the instrument on stage,

Notes dance, music bleeding; breathing sweat, the melody of the enraged,

Fire rings, smoke engulfing; watch the woman despair, her voice entrances, beware–

Beauty enraged, a witch, incaged; performing she’s the beast, on stage no cares.

Day 2 – NaPoWriMo – Catching Stars

I look above me from the fresh cut grass

And I feel the blackness engulfing me

Oh, but for the light of diamond stars

I reach up high, I cannot touch them

For they are billions of miles away

But maybe I feel I might just graze them with my finger tips

These stars they burn my hands, these giant balls of gas

Burning clear through my memory to that night

When you sat beside me and we were relaxed

You had a sleeping bag spread, just in case

But the grass called to me and you held my hand

The stars torches to the gods of kingdoms past

And we small humans looking up at them

Reflected in our eyes we see what the ancients saw

Something older and wiser then any of us

Queens of the sky majestic in your ball of light

So close, but yet so far

And you held my hand, I was warm and sleepy

The stars in your eyes burning softly
