#NaPoWriMo Day 10: Poem – Free Verse “Despite” #amwritingpoetry

For NaPoWriMo Day 10 I’m writing a poem not based on that days prompt.

Wake me in vermilion and peach,

The sunset explodes, but I’ll sleep through, gaze as it blends with cerulean sky.

The beauty of a light –I’m awake and have the energy of a thousand years in hours.

Wake me up, when my bones aren’t stiff and my mind not muddled.

For healing, offer carmine apples, lush lemons sour;

Hot pink tulips leaning towards sunshine, the omniscient glimmer.

A liberty in nature’s art, space to breath and become;

God, don’t let me drown,

Or tumble; don’t let my mind muddle, my body betray.

Never return to those darkest hours, the hurt of anger, such rage;

The storm that swallowed me; yet, created me as ‘me’ today — whoever I’m becoming,

As I tread, swim through cement waves and air seethes into my lungs when I surface.

Aid me as I discover, my rhythm in life, melodic movement to overcome the dim.

Let me meander verdant forests, trails of enlightenment, peace to wander and laugh,

Picnics, wine, and beaches in the sun, with my friends and loved ones.

Leave me in tranquility to amble amongst wild fuchsia flowers,

Let life not be rigid, placed in rows upon rows of suffering.

As the wild flowers bloom in every direction, soothe my soul every way it leans.

For I fear that it will never grow upright, gain the suppleness of a giant oak;

Perhaps, I’m flimsy, but you renew my strength.

And whichever way I’m swept, let the daylight warm my petals; my flexible stem let it bend.

Though white skins burns, let your healing burn brighter, as sleep soothes all wounds;

Let not little strokes, those choking quakes, break me from my journey.

So, I’ll keep pushing, the blue bird unafraid to try to dive;

My stomach aches and falls to the ground, the shadows swim closer, yank me under the waves.

Yet, in your hands I’m safe, there’s no harm, my wingspan lengthens,

I may limp, but that’s never meant I cannot fly, achieve possibilities despite misery’s woes.

Despite — I’ll always take flight despite.

Gathering with,

Our families a bond,

There, despite —

The distance.

Sharing our lives together

Meeting, laughing, joy.

—-

Siblings,

Connecting; though years —

In childhood,

Have passed by.

Fiances, partners, meeting —

New loved ones enfold.

—-

Families,

They grow and alter.

Babies too,

Added and —

Some family sadly they pass,

Onto their forever home.

And on the —

New Year, we gather,

Again to —

Ring in a —

Better year, with promise; hope,

Less pain, more grace known.

—–

So I pray,

For all of you, when —

You pour the —

Champagne and —

Kiss your most beloved one,

Think too, of suffering

Those whose holidays,

Have less cheer, are hard

Those who fight

Have trials

Those without home, wealth, and —

Know not where food comes.

—–

For those who,

Are trying to feed,

Little mouths.

They go with —

Out; but they need energy,

To work, to provide.

—-

For those who’ve,

Demons inside, they can’t —

Struggle more,

And survive.

For those who don’t know there’s hope

Think and aid them all.

—-

Help comes in,

Many ways; talking,

Mere words which,

Keep the edge,

Far away; give friendship, gifts —

Something showing thought.
—-

You can help,

Volunteer to kids,

Charity,

Read with them.

You can do many thoughtful

Things; don’t forget.

—-

For those snug,

At home and gifted to know,

Warmth and love.

Abundantly

Blessed; may we keep the —

Season in our hearts.

Lady Gaga Live – ” Angel Down”

I’m so thrilled with Lady Gage’s new album. I love her dance and pop-music stuff but her new songs, some of them go deep. This is one of those songs and I used the lyrics “Angel Down” for this poem. What I love is how in the video she is live, and sounds the same as if you were listening to her on her new album. Talented singer!

——–

She built her life, she built it strong, made it so —

It wouldn’t fall;but you can fortify —

The keep, make it so no one can slip in,

There are always cracks within perfection;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

——-

You can see the lines forming before she breaks,

Memories from the past she thought would save.

She’s safe –an illusion broken when the mirror —

Of life shatters within her face, she’s beat;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

——

Trapped in a birdcage, no song to sing,

Her tunes aren’t lucid and her wings are clipped,

Such dreams as a young woman, such glad times,

Now she’s angry, so frustrated — life’s a lie;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

——

Paints her makeup mask, hide the mirror’s blood tracks,

She thinks she’s imperfect tries to conceal —

New dress, she’s pretty, long legs on display yet,

She can’t hide feelings, she doesn’t fit in here;

Angel Down, Angel Down

—–

He said heels were stupid, girls can’t walk on —

Four-inch needles; yet they made her happy.

Night of the dance, stumbled; wore light blue chucks,

Sitting on the radio at the party crying;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

——

Years pass, another day spent sifting in,

Her see-through life, on clothing racks, she —

Attempts to find the perfect fit,  but she —

Knows like her, it’s elusive, can’t be found;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

——-

Music saves some, for others it magnifies

A hurt and hole inside her –can God even fill?

Remembering hideaways, experiences —

To fill the void within, smile with tears dripping;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

——-

Time in lavish living rooms, won’t make her,

Feel love she’s so denied; she can’t even —

Love her own body, isn’t what it was,

She fingers trinkets bought, fears with tears smear;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

—-

Jewel she thought would invoke good memories,

Fill her with hope and joy again; sharp pains of —

Her past; but now her wings have been pried off,

She’s a habiscus plucked and dying slow;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

—–

Packing suitcases, her body trembles,

She’s going on journey; her state of mind —

Broken; but she’s trying to heal and she —

Prays new memories, stop her rapid descent;

Angel Down, Angel Down.

—–

Please somebody, please help an Angel Down and —

Unlock her cage –the one she created,

Show her some love, let her taste freedom.

Be someone she can trust, so she won’t fade;

Angel Down, Angel Down

—–

Angel found her feet and flew,

Sailed above clouds anew;

The sun glints of her smile and–

She’s brand new bird who trills;

Angel Found,  Angel Found.
