———

Clouds of puffs with white tentacles deadly, swimming beneath the ocean’s sheltering waves. Peaceful movements grace and elegance defined; their dance a waltz in the deep deep dark, a flighty whispy dance of ethereal circumstance. They glide through the seas, their glow a light in the dark; the jellyfish waltz alone, then, together in the day, in the inky darkness beneath seas traumatic surface.

Deep night and the darkness should seem mean,

But in day time light exposes, reveals.

The tranquil night holds me and conceals,

I’m finding that black pitch, it redeems.

Souls in the day ashamed of life’s greeds,

Broken, lost, but I’m more than what I seem.

I’m like you, I have fond hopes and wild dreams.

More basic, I just want to have life’s needs.

Water, food, health insurance, no delusions.

Meds so I’m like you, not fearing night screams,

Not having nightmares on cold streets mean.

A homeless woman, battered, unseemly,

Wishing for small things, a roof and hygiene.

Wishing you’d help, want out of here, achieving —

Life where I don’t struggle but live small dreams.

Mood settles down, crowd whispering,

Taking the microphone,

Sees phones glowing in darkness.

——

His sonorous voice ooos, flows,

Cascades in waves,

Crescendos — crowd sings each word.

——

Shivers down our spines, melodic —

Voice raised profoundly.

Clarity resounding, lyrics in hearts.

Yesterday I heard him move, silent tin man,

Rusted, squeaking hinges, yet light spans.

A tin man with no heart inside his chest,

His hallow metal barrel chest detests,

The emptiness he feels without his heart,

A  lit heart on his head instead restarts

Tin man full of dreams, rusted metal parts.

He may feel brittle without movement,

Stuck in a cupboard, his joints need soothing

Some oil to grease his soldier-like steps,

To urge his metal mouth to smile more yet.

But he still sits hidden, you wouldn’t know he,

Has never stopped lighting his space pleased

His heart is not of darkness, but sun beams,

Edison’s gift, fairy’s magic, lights streaming

Tin man full of dreams, rusted metal parts.

Rusted limbs matter little, but a boy,

Loves this enchanted robot, mystic toy.

He cleans him up, oils his joints perfectly

The robot smiles, glow growing immersed

New feelings, memories lost, but at last,

He’s a night light, child’s toy, great love amassed.

Tin man full of dreams, rusted metal parts.

Day 17 – NaPoWriMo/A to Z Challenge/ First Line Friday FF: Poem – Free Verse — “Full Moon of Neurotic Night” #NaPoWriMo #AtoZchallenge #FLF #poetry

Thanks to Dylan of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie‘a First Line Friday Prompt. The first line from last Friday was: “I’m going to tell you how I lost my inheritance.” For NaPoWriMo the prompt is to write a nocturne which is a poem/song about the night. For A to Z Challenge, today’s letter is O for a GoodRead’s quote.

“You don’t have to be dead to leave a legacy. — Onyi Anyado”

——-

I’m going to tell how I lost my inheritance, how my legacy rides in tides as the full moon rises,

How the night stole my humanity and hammered my soul a blow.

The dusk covered the light, liquid tar blanket bestowed,

The sun hid himself away, way down in western wilds of woe.

A sinking feeling settled in and a certain chorus began to ring,

A range of notes, a rising crescendo of riveting lyrical prose.

A poet’s words possessing her, when she knows full well,

The powerful pull of the midnight hour.

And the pressing provocative lure as the moon glows,

A white orb that won’t warble, a strong luminious light,

Residing over all as every full moon does.

To be host over the howling wolves, the healthy youths as they prowl,

The dark delights of the night distend into the dimest parts of every soul.

A choir of banshees brazenly taking souls salaciously, the maids from their beds,

The hour of the demons drawing back to their victims with wet bloody lips;

The incubus raging and awaking the wild within their prey.

And all is a lure, an image not clear, all this is imagined,

All this is frightening, foretold in nightmares.

The affected awake in the morning from the pleasure and pain,

From satisfied appetites, appalling in the dank aptitudes of night.

Night swells and swallows herprey wholly, partaking and doping with her starry glow,

Inviting the worst from the wise, even ill from the innocent.

Yet a moral being cannot mean to say, night has had her way and ‘I’ had no say;

It’s easy to give in with ease, to isolate one’s self to enthralling entertainments, inscribed darkly now on souls.

And what’s done in the night when the moon is full and fat, cannot be told for it stays hidden on those nights, when the wildest ones escape.

The vampires and the wolves, the creatures we know not of, and humans do not stay humble ether — they choose to fly with the fallen.

A nocturne of night will tell you what power presumes to hide beneath an inky black veil,

It’s not pure evil, it’s the usual kind, who chooses to dance with the devil, and forget their choices their choosing for charm and wine.

For tequila and vodka, for him and her, and whisky burning down your throat as the howls of the night combine with a loss of memory;

And we all awake mid-afternoon, no one knowing the peculiarities of such a night, a full out frightening moon.

Only a feeling, a shiver, a prayer, as the moon fades from brilliance, she is trapped, unwillingingly held as she wanes us back into morality.

The light of the sun salutes from the east and all is forgiven in harmony and health, angelic nebulas, skys of blue birds, and Bambi deers galloping.

Woe is the wicked night on the full moon, but how much greater is the morn after malevolence is perpetually destroyed,

Yet oh, how we miss the fun of bliss in the dark — no thoughts, no reason, just acceptance to absorb the pleasures of night’s nocturnal nightmares.

Humming,

As the bird who’s —

Thrumming in the air,

Struggling for each flutter so

Rapid; so utterly fast it’s blurring.

My wings in flight are haze to you,

You don’t see underneath;

Desperation,

Humming.

——

Darkness,

Arising in —

My stomach, spiraling,

To the surface out of my —

Broken soul that I mend in those worlds found,

In each and every story, novels —

Ending hiding; I’m no —

Crab in my shell’s —

Darkness.

——-

In dreams,

I writhe, I twist,

Tales of old and new —

Follow me when enters Sandman,

To calm adventures stripping me of sleep.

But just as I live in my books,

I live in nightmarish —

Tales at midnight,

In dreams.

——-

Awake,

Oh, sheltered one.

Let the black smoke rise, cleanse

Your body from your shattered self,

Set free your mind, let your spirit live,

Life’s the greatest adventure,

Stories read fill gaps;

Burst forth spirit,

Awake.

———

Cherries,

You’re sexy  as,

Women who curl cherry —

Stems into knots with skillful tongues.

Unafraid to bare your body,

When it’s appreciated.

With love, you expose your —

Soul; All for ripe

Cherries.

—-

As books,

Sweet red cherries,

From the Okanagan,

A valley of delicacies.

Driving through B.C. in summer, you —

Stop at every fruit stand,

Selling juicy fruit — truths;

Cherries savored,

As books.

—–

Smokescreen,

Floats up swirls as —

Papal smoke; the blackness,

Forgiven reading thousands

Of tales, every genre, every language.

Devouring ‘reads’ as cherries,

Demons gone; living with —

Wisdom taught, no —

Smokescreen.

——

Light’s glow,

In each tale read.

Nourishes souls; keeps me —

Aching to learn, wanting to know,

Of worlds, fantastic characters —

With hubris, compelling charm.

While some characters are —

Searching hard for,

Light’s glow.

—–

Writing,

It filled holes,

Torn in souls, in hearts wrecked,

The reader became author,

Discovering within her fingers lies a —

Haven, a solace of peace, rest;

Because the story grows —

In her, exposing —

Writing.

Saturday Mix: Poem – Wrapped Refrain – “The Demon Spawned” #amwriting #poetry #saturdaymix

Thanks to Bastet from MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting today’s prompt, a “gothic” tale or poem — the macabre.

——

Was such a dreary night forewarned,

In dirt squiggled both bugs and worms.

For they too felt doom bemoaning,

To be out on this night groaning.

A monster from hell was spawned, a demon seething,

Earth felt the heaven’s warn, evil darkness speeding.

——

Why such a night did I choose,

To walk my scrawny pooch?

In a fight she would run straight home,

No blind love, she left me alone.

As twilight bubbled as witch’s brew steaming,

An evil curse my bones hurt knowing it was too near.

——

Our little neighbourhood was vast,

In pitch black terror I was cast.

My prayers mumbled beneath my —

Breath; I begged this night not to die.

Starlight and slim moon were covered by creeping thick fog,

Oh, how wished, for even my cowardly scared dog.

—–

Felt I the breath of evil reek,

A touch of frost open my young cheek.

Of something old, of catastrophe,

An ancient wicked masterpiece.

A monster so dark, it did me choke, both claws squeezing,

All life from lungs, bones crushing while I was bleeding.

—–

And now I’m nothing but my soul,

I choose — serve eternity bold.

Be not afraid as I was of dark,

For now I’m light, a fighting spark,

Giving courage, weapons to those facing monsters,

Sending back the most damned beasts, to hell launching.

Sunday Photo Fiction: Awakening the Dragon #flashfiction #amwriting #dragon

——

Sophia hid in her closet, it was her only safe place. Hanging on a ceiling was a mobile with a handcrafted dragon. She remembered thinking the dragon was frightening, but whenever the darkness in her room swallowed her, the dragon’s eyes flashed; the shadows were obliterated.

She also remembered when her mom first hit her. She scrubbed Sophia’s cut and it was excruciating as was the burning stringent liquid her mom poured on it.

Suddenly, Sophia heard yelling and stomping. The closest door flew open — her mother was drunk again.
Instantly, the dragon’s eyes above her caught fire. He grew into a monster with golden scales and the scent of fire and ash, spreading and filling Sophia’s entire bedroom. He blew a blaze of fire at her mom but only the bottle of Kirkland Tequila (1.75 Litres/$20.00) in her mom’s hand disintegrated.

In words veiled in smoke the dragon hissed at Sophia’s mom who nodded; she understood the dragon’s warning. He breathed out his last plume of smoke and except for the acrid smell, it was if Sophie’s dragon had never awoken.

She crawled out of her hiding place and petted the handcrafted dragon hearing him purr.

” . . .Don’t get to close its dark inside. It’s where my demons hide, it’s where my demons hide” – “Demons” by Imagine Dragon

——-

They’re people we meet,

In them darkness keeps.

A veil over haunted eyes,

Something telling weighs,

Light badly betrays;

Shadows lift, they’re undisguised

—–

Putting on a face,

Something’s hidden; pace —

Steadily, you’re caught thinking.

Truth can be harmful,

Darkness it swarms.

Seeming ruse has us shrinking.

——

To start, talk awhile;

Some demons revile

Other darkness isn’t asked for it’s,

Unfairly gifted,

Souls broken, shifted;

Waiting for light at home lit.

——-

No one is so lost,

They can’t be reformed.

Shadows hold tightly, a hand —

Gives hope in the dark,

Heals bruising black marks.

Keep helping, say: “Here’s my hand.”

—–

Though darkness found can —

Be fearful, programmed,

In those with no conscience led;

Most people are sought,

It happens a lot;

We’re trapped in nightmares dread

—–

But the light of hope,

In dawn always glows

Derelict souls need help, change,

Is possible;

Not impossible.

Leave no one entrapped; estranged.
