Mist veils the horizons as sunlight peaks,

Yellowish-glitter highlights the forest in gold dust.

Strange flutters heard as the fog dissipates,

Trite concerns to the silence heard, no boisterous bird peeps.

Everchanging, the fog leaves and returns, slithering into —

Remenants of rabbit holes and homes dug by foxes.

Ill winds blow but the fog conceals their bitterness,

Only the sunlight crawling beneath the fog bodes well.

Universal symbol of hope from night’s darkest creatures still dwelling,

Sounds of eerie flapping again, fading into slumber.

#OctPoWriMo Day 18: Poem – Blackout – “The Cave” #amwriting #poetry

For OctPoWriMo Day 18 I’ve chosen my own prompt of blackout poetry.

——-

———

Go to places on Earth,

The most extreme environments.

Track down Arizona in Death Valley,

On the shores beneath iceshelf[s].

Desert some island north to find, [un]Imaginable trips to batt-ridden cave[s].

Studying environments where a human would,

Cross the cosmos, other planets,

Undeterred by Face-smashing,

By the constant wetness, the darkness.

The slight possibility that whatever,

Exotic diseases, might enter, [still] ask —

If [they’re] encountering [the] unknown.

We think it’s moderately unlikely,

[As the] cave floor with water of varying depths,

[Has no] transparency, [so we] walk gingerly,

To avoid discovering unmapped water.

A walk in the park — no ropes, just some crawling,

Eventually reach[ing the] deepest chamber.

Spun webs, bat’s zagged and zinged,

Emitting their high pitch.

Red rock walls with green slime,

Gypsum paste and limestone in process,

Dissolved by sulfuric acid [became apparent.]

I was thinking,

This cave resembled [nature] lobbying

[For people to] recognize [its vast hidden meanings].

Poem: Italian Sonnet – “Twilight’s Path” #wordhighjuly #poetry #amwriting

Scorching rays of sunlight fade into dusk,

Warm winds blowing, though thunder struck in pain.

Cooling winds embrace the hour, twilight gains.

Sunsets east, blazing pink; purple twinge, blush.

Come weary, who experience harsh gusts.

Behold your slumber waits twilight dark feigns.

Crawling, reaching, until pitch black has reign,

The problems of day they fade; copper to rust.

——-

Now ponder in dreams, solutions to life,

We cannot solve every issue; we try.

Life as growing fruit, right season for ripe.

Longing for time we’re not merely alive.

A time for everything, in season right.

Judge not your troubles; twilight guides night.
