#NaPoWriMo Day 4: Poem – “Soul Crooning Joy” #amwritingpoetry

For NaPoWriMo Day 4, the prompt is:

“And now for today’s (optional) prompt, inspired by Teicher’s poem “Son“. One thing you might notice about this poem is that it is sad, but that it doesn’t generate feeling through emotional words. The words are simple. Another thing you might notice is that it’s a sonnet – not in strict iambic pentameter, but fourteen rhymed, relatively short lines. Today, we’d like to challenge you to write your own sad poem, but one that, like Teicher’s, achieves sadness through simplicity. Playing with the sonnet form may help you . . .”

You can be around your things sad singing,

As if you were meaningless and abstract,

As if you’re loneliness was a forever fact.

You forget the joy of people mingling,

Then, azure-blue skies, clear your head’s ringing.

For a moment in lush nature you’re not lost,

Not alone, fretting and tossed —

As turbulent seas, their waves sling you into depths.

Perhaps, once you realize you won’t drown,

White-capped waves slow, gentle and soothing.

Without fear of hollowness engaged;

You can occupy yourself alone and grin,

Life’s balanced, you’ve both Joie a viva, and feel safe;

You can be alone, yet in a crowd — soul crooning.

Tale Weaver: Poem – Bop – “I’ve Enough” #poetry #taleweaver #dVerse #amwriting

Thanks to Michael of MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie for hosting Tale Weavers #176. The Prompt is what it is we want in life. Also, thanks to Bodhirose of #dVerse Poet’s Pub for hosting open link night.

——-

All the things I want, do I really need?

Do I need more shirts, more heels, is that greed?

If I made my sum of money wanted,

Would it ever be enough? Life’s haunting  —

Me to spend more cash, not to save some more;

Could having more money make you poorer?

All I want, need, matters not — I’ve enough.

——–

If I was perfectly healthy, I would lose,

Freedom over some of, my time; I’d choose —

A job with variety, nice colleagues, laughing,

Not working casually from home alone, aghast —

At how much harder it is with details,

How precision is difficult, I rail —

Not often, but when I’m tired, frustrated,

When my short term memory is flustered.

All I want, need, matters not — I’ve enough.

——

Yet I’m able to focus on writing —

My dream; building my talent’s exciting

I’m able to write, home or a coffee shop,

Or to binge watch Netflix when I’m feeling,

Energyless and downcast, mind reeling.

Wishing I had my blessings and wasn’t ill,

I desire my full health, yet I’m fulfilled.

All I want, need, matters not –I’ve enough.

Day 13 – NaPoWriMo/ A to Z Challenge/Sunday Photo Fiction: Poem – Ghazals – “The Dragon Boat Returns to Shore” #NaPoWriMo #AtoZchallenge #poetry #flashfiction

Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt is to write a ghazal. The GoodReads Quote begins with the letter for the A to Z Challenge. Thanks to Alistair Forbes for hosting SPF as well.

“A Ghazal is a poem that is made up like an odd numbered chain of couplets, where each couplet is an independent poem. It should be natural to put a comma at the end of the first line. The Ghazal has a refrain of one to three words that repeat, and an inline rhyme that preceedes the refrain. Lines 1 and 2, then every second line, has this refrain and inline rhyme, and the last couplet should refer to the authors pen-name… The rhyming scheme is AA bA cA dA eA etc.”

“And though I came to forget or regret all I have ever done, yet I would remember that once I saw the dragons aloft on the wind at sunset above the western isles; and I would be content.” Ursula K. Le Guin, The Farthest Shore

The dragon boats arrive, the sea pulling them into shore,

Watching remotely from a distance, will he be on shore?

For many months they wandered, the boat their prized shelter,

Now they are home, the boat still floats, they’re at the shore.

I’m afraid to see them, brothers, their friends, so dear to me changed,

I wave, my kin they come forward their eyes remote, onto shore.

They’re gaunt, they’re battle worn, they need food, steaming hot baths to soothe,

Once they settle, they talk, thick coats warm them on the shore.

My brothers, my childhood friends, have lost part of themselves,

On the ocean suffered, in baren lands they smote on the cold shore.

They’ve treasures, furs, they’ve jewels, silver, gold — they lost their life spark,

Gazing at my love, his face coated in grime, eyes dead on shore.

The days pass by, the village returns to normal almost,

Except the men who left; returned forever remote to shore.

I talk to him, I talk to my brothers, hearing how each piece,

Of their self died, no matter we doated on them on shore.

Time passes, I think I’m seeing things when his eyes alter,

Warmth returns, he takes my hand, away from the boat on shore.

Sand beach, I bury my toes,

Sand squishes between them, I sigh;

Happy.

——

Blue sky so clear, clouds like cotton,

 Feel at home, reading trashy book;

Engrossed.

——

Hearing waves crashing in and out,

Aroma of salt, sea; sun streams;

Sunscreened.

Scents of cocoanut and aloe

SPF 100 or I’ll burn quick;

Smoothed in.

——

Floppy hat and Marilyn swim suit,

Magazines read while the dog splashes;

Relaxed.

——

Blanket soft with a bit of sand,

Jackie.O sunglasses worn;

Content.

——

Wet dog shaking everywhere,

Angry crab in dogs mouth shook;

Laughing

——-

Calm, tranquility; wading in,

Ocean’s rhythm soothes, stops thinking;

Forget.

******

 Sky fading purple; ocean green —

Dark and ominous, storm coming;

Watchful.

——

Rain starts to fall, cold and loud,

Taking umbrella down, packing;

Forced home.

——

Perfect beach moment gone for now,

Sitting in the cabin, storm roars;

Rain pours.

#OctPoWriMo – Day 22 – Blitz Poem – “Chances Anew” #amwriting #poetry

Day 22 Prompt: Dangerous
“Some things are obviously dangerous, like walking too close to a cliff, and other things, not so much. Free write for ten minutes exploring what is obviously dangerous, not so much, and what dangerous means to you. You could turn this into a rant poem, especially given the times.”

——–

http://www.getaway2thegods.com

——–

There is always present danger

There is always a need for caution

Caution is necessary

Caution keeps us alive

Alive isn’t enough

Alive means we need to be safe

Safe is a cloudy dream

Safe is an illusion

Illusions we love because they hide cold hard facts

Illusions keep us content

Content is all we can ask to be

Content not to be in danger

Danger hides and danger runs

Danger is wicked and tricky

Tricky because danger is not not upfront

Tricky because danger bides its time

Time waiting to harm us

Time waiting to strike and destroy

Destroying lives with vengeance

Destroying hearts with humourless mirth

Mirth –does it exist in harsh circumstances?

Mirth is it possible when tomorrow could be–

Be the end of life’s dreams?

Be the end of life without heart sight?

Sight to see the world shatter as glass

Sight to see how lost we are in the world

World where we wander feeling hopeless

World where we’re crushed by despair

Despair slips in and brings us to tears

Despair is a weapon danger employes

Employes to target are last reserves

Employes as those serving him as soldiers

Soldiers, mercenaries, to do the bloody work

Soldiers blinded by their own greed

Greed for money until it’s set a flame

Greed for money, not seeing  –it’s only paper

Paper, the German Mark in the 1930’s, in suitcases

Paper marks, thousands were worthless

Worthlessness, don’t ever feel unwanted

Worthful, you’re as precious stones

Stones judgemental people throw

Stoning the accused sinner

Sinners we all are, it can’t be helped

Sinner –let he with the least sin cast the stone first

 First you must smile and gather your hope

First be glad, life has new beginnings

Beginnings are new chances

Beginnings are for real, life arises anew

Chances . . .

Anew. . .

Flash Fiction for the Aspiring Writer: A Sparse Pantry and Fridge #amwriting #flashfiction

Thank you to the lovely Priceless Joy for hosting FFftAW.

Maria – Doodles and Scribbles.

———

“Kat, are you sure you went grocery shopping? The fridge is nearly bare and there’s no meat; even the pantry is half-empty?”
Kat looked away from Jan, flipping through movies to watch on Netflix but Jan wouldn’t be ignored.

“Well, I did go grocery shopping. I know it was my turn, but do we need all that food?” Kat said.

“What do you mean do we need it?” Jan asked. “Our bodies need fruits, vegetables, and healthy protein. We need whole grains and items to bring for lunch and snacks. You didn’t even buy dark chocolate,” Jan remarked. “Did something happen? Did you run out of money?”

Kat sighed, her face ashamed, “Yeah, I overspent shopping for clothes for work clothes for my internship. I didn’t mean to but it’s been a long time since I’ve been able to shop for any new clothes.”

Jan considered her friend’s admission.They were both students in the last year of their business degrees and money was tight, but she decided to forgive Kat.

“Okay Kat. I wish you’d had more self-control, but I know you require professional clothes for work. I also realize we both need both to replace some of our worn-out clothes soon. I’ll forgive you this month and pay for the rest of the groceries.”

“Oh thank you Jan.”

“But I have conditions: You need to buy most of the groceries for the next two months so I can do some shopping for my self for next semester. You’ll have to help me, I’ve no sense of style when it comes to professional attire.”

Kat laughed, “Agreed I’ll pay for our groceries for two-months, after this month; the fashion advice is free.”

Jan hugged Kat and they watched a new movie together, content with their solution.

Poem: Free Verse – “In Eyes Perceive” #wordhighjuly #poetry #balintataw

——–

http://www.pixebay.com

———

I’ve lost clarity; it’s obvious, observe —

When I’m peering through dense walls,

Where you disguise your life;

I’m blinded from your changing eyes.

Obsidian pupils, shining as glass;

Solidification of molten lava black.

Rings of green surround pupils.

In certain light, your eyes blackish-green fire;

In another light, they’re a grassy knoll.

I perceive your eyes, understanding you;

When you’re hostil, temperamental;

Your eyes alter colour, swirling into black.

A bitter ocean, a complex green.

Obsidian pupils merge; fight pleasant green.

The storm rages, your eyes stay grating.

As steel and concrete,

You’re cold, unflinching.

——-

When you’re serene and absorbed in life;

Your eyes tint with light,

Glow with presence;

Glimmering alert, understanding.

Conversing comfortably;

Words match your eyes.

Face, sure and bright;

Joy glows from your lips,

The creases in your smile.

Wrinkles, fan your eyes;

You laugh and illuminate my sight.

Your fantastic mood drawing people to you,

My beacon.

——-

But my favourite vantage,

Of your eyes;

Dark pupils focus, adore me slow.

Feeding an ethereal glow;

Throwing off embers of warmth.

Mysterious eyes, wide-open;

Your true-self, no posing.

Brilliant fire of space simmering;

Us a compass twain,

Star dust and nebulas.

You appear almost sleepy,

Eyes perceiving my eyes;

Mood indicators; receptors of feeling.

The lights in all the stars,

Of every universe, combined.

Heat from your heart (and other parts),

Obsidian meeting obsidian sheen;

Aurora Borealis in our eyes gleam.

Waves of heat and colour impress.

Of all the giant and tiny world’s,

Unparalleled; the world we combine.

Nebulas spark across the dark;

Your truth is when you memorize me,
Satisfied smile, softly content.
We’ve conquered stars;

As light is the only source,

Differing our eyes; a genetic defect passed,

Transforming brown, to blue and green;

The Northern Lights,

Enfolding us in time, our space.

Turns out blue or green eyes is not a pigment, it has to do with structural colour and the scattering of light in certain conditions.

Thank you to K.L. Caley of new2writing for hosting #Maydays prompts. Today’s prompt is a fortune cookie stating: “May You Live In Interesting Times.”
——

——-

My friend: May you live in interesting times.

Let the shadows at night not overtake you,

Brightness driving out with light, what shakes you.

Listen, the wind echoes trilling the chimes,

To breathe fresh air and thrive is not a crime.

Holding your dreams close; with great flight pursue,

Let life shimmer within, remember: choose!

Don’t let life cage; chase ethereal sublime.

——

Out with sadness; out with cruel fate’s lies,

There’s a future brash, hollering –go find.

Feel grass beneath your cheek seek; realize —

Nature’s gorgeous beauty, freedom designed.

Chase the shores; eagles on cliffs thrilling cries,

Live, not content to merely survive — thrive.

Chapter 29. How Was Last Night For You: John Returns

Please read Chapter 28 here.

Chapter 29: John Returns

“Mom, hello? Is that you?” John said, pressing Nina’s IPhone against his ear.

“Jordan is that you? Why are you using Nina’s phone I was just talking to you. . .” Edith replied.

“No, Mom. It’s me John. I’m alive, here with Nina. You need to stop the funeral.”

“Jordan this isn’t funny. We discussed this. Your brother is dead. He’s passed on and we need to move on too, even if we don’t have a body to bury. You and Nina can hope forever, but eventually you are going to have to come terms with it. I know my son. If he was alive, he would’ve found his way home.”

“This isn’t Jordan Mom. It’s John. I am home. I came home early this morning. I ran into Nina walking on the beach in front of our house.” John told his Mom beseechingly.

“John?” Edith’s voice was muffled and he could the tears in her voice.”This better be you. Where have you been young man it’s been over four-months?”

“There’s a lot to explain Mom . . .” Edith cut John off.

“Take a selfie, show me a me picture of how you look with Nina right now.” John and Nina obliged Edith, taking a few photos on Nina’s phone and sending them to Jon’s Mom.

Edith called back minutes after receiving the pictures, “I’m coming over to your house now and I’m bringing everyone.”

Nina gazed at John putting her hair back into a tighter ponytail. “What did Edith say?”

“She thought I was Jordan. She was crying, but the selfies convinced her I’m alive. Mom’s coming over now and bringing my Dad and brothers.”

Nina swore. “The house is kind of a mess John. I haven’t felt much like cleaning the last couple of weeks . . .”

“It’ll be okay Nina. She won’t care about the mess until later. Mom needs to see me for herself first.” Nina wrapped her arm around John’s waist and he put his arm around her shoulders, they began walking back to John’s beachfront house, kicking sand up as they walked.

“How will you explain it all to Edith and Robert, your Dad? To the rest of your family?” Nina asked John.

“Well, I’ll explain as best as I can. I’m not sure where I was for most of four-months. . . I’d rather talk with you first but I’m sure the family is half-way here by now. As if a curse isn’t weird enough, coming back to life after being between life and death for months, will be shocking.” John reasoned.

“I think,” Nina countered, “You’re family will be overjoyed to see you safe and healthy. Not to mention, such as in every happily ever after, the curse is broken. I think your family will be happy you and I, and they can live normal lives without worrying about awful events occurring around you and affecting them. Your family loves you and will be enthused you did not die that night as they all thought.”

Nina kissed John’s cheek with a smacking kiss and he laughed, messing her hair up lightly. “Tell them the truth as best as you can. Tell us all. I would love to hear your story from after the point I thought you died, and you disappeared into the water and sky, when Talise broke the curse.”

John kissed Nina softly. “I’ll try to tell you first. The drive up here will take everyone a bit to get here.” The house loomed before them and they walked up the porch steps together through the back door.

John and Nina both showered together. They wanted to spend their time loving each other in the shower, but knowing Edith could barge in the house soon, stopped them from going too far with each other.

Nina wouldn’t put it past Edith to walk right into the bathroom to see John, even if he and Nina were both naked.

Nina and John both wore jeans and soft t-shirts. Nina blew dry her hair and curled it with a flat iron before applying her makeup minimally and the fastest she had ever had to apply it before. She didn’t like meeting John’s family without her ‘face’ on. The makeup was a bit of shield for her, against what she might hear from John and his family.

Nina applied foundation and mascara. Next came a gold sheen of an eye shadow color on her eyelid and a darker brown crease shade. A fluff of blush on each cheek and some gold hoop earrings were followed by Nina applying a pink lip gloss. She met John in the kitchen so relieved and overjoyed he was home. She could almost cry, but she didn’t. She needed to hear John’s story about Norman and life in-between life and death.

“You must be starving,” Nina told John.

“I had a huge steak dinner last night with Norman. I’m okay right now, it’s not even lunch. The fridge is packed with food I see though.” John commented.

“I’m happy you’ve been eating. It bothers me when you don’t eat because you’re worried, sick, or keeping secrets.” John remarked smiling knowingly at Nina.

Nina smirked.” I think you’re the one with secrets right now John; not me.” John laughed amused.

“I tried to eat when I remembered and at first, I forgot a lot. Rianne has been terrific and she grocery shopped for me when I was grieving. She’s literally, the only way I was able to handle losing you. She believed me when I said you were alive out there, even when your family stopped believing me.” A stray tear leaked down Nina’s cheek.

John stopped her tear with his thumb, ” I’m here now. I couldn’t come back any sooner, but I would’ve  if I knew how. I was stuck and sleeping in a vibrant place. You know what it was like you said, because you were there in that place in-between life and death that night when Talise’s bite poisoned you.”

“Yeah,” Nina nodded remembering. “It was tranquil and I had no troubling thoughts or worries. There was so many beautiful colours. Bold and magnificent colours there isn’t enough words in the human language to describe.”

“Exactly,” John said. “I’m glad I didn’t know how gone you were that night. When I was ended up in the place of colours, I couldn’t imagine so many colours existed. There were colours there and they don’t exist here on earth.”

“I was so fatigued and in that place I could rest and be done with the whole curse, with everything. I wanted to give in and I let myself for a long time, but then I pictured you and I was awake and I was wandering an endless beach.” John said.

He leaned against the kitchen island and Nina stood close to him. She smelled his woodsy and citrus cologne and breathed it in. It was the scent on the shirt she’d been sleeping with for over four-months.

“I’m ecstatic your back John and grateful. If remembering me brought you out of that in-between place, I’m glad.” Nine hesitated,” Do you think it was God who brought you to the beach, not only your thoughts?”

“I don’t know. Norman wasn’t God but I have the feeling he might have worked for God. He saved Rianne Norman told me and he was there to help me. He said he can take many forms. He came into my cottage, my home on the beach. After supper and beers, he answered all my questions and taught me a few things too.”

“Just like that?” Nina questioned.”What did Norman say exactly? You seem lighter now and carefree. I know it’s probably because the curse is gone, but I think something else has changed too. Just a feeling I have knowing you as I do.” Nina surmised, smiling contently.

John didn’t answer right away. He kissed Nina on the lips a few times, lingering over her mouth and Nina could tell he was holding back, trying to be gentle. She began to feel warm and she ached for John inside as heat and attraction simmered between them. Nina had missed John incredibly and wanted to demonstrate to him how much she had missed him in their bed.

John smiled at Nina chuckling: “I want to too Nina, but right now isn’t a good time with my family arriving soon.” He pulled back from kissing her. John must have seen the wounded look in Nina’s eyes, because he brushed her cheeks with his thumbs. Nina put her head against John’s chest, hearing his heart beat was comforting and his hug calmed Nina.

“Tell me more,” Nina said after a while, stepping back from John’s arms and peering up at him. John gently moved back from Nina some more and leaned against the kitchen island once again. Nina stood in front of him, hands in her jean pockets, full of curiosity.

“Well, I told you about Talise. She’s not dead. I’m not sure how. Norman said Talise saw something in Jordan that night. She broke the curse and she let Jordan kill her. This makes Talise redeemable,” John muttered, his anger at Talise present.

“Talise told me that the curse was a deeper magic than the magic she possessed. It was why she couldn’t save you John.”

“Indeed, I’m quite sure the curse magic and other magic is deeper than Talise’s magic. Norman said he was a kind of magic . . . Anyways, about Talise and Jordan, Norman said what Talise saw in Jordan was like what I saw in you when I first met you at The Manhattan.”

“Really?” Nina said shocked. John shrugged.

“I don’t understand it but Norman said Talise was Jordan’s responsibility the same way you are mine. I have tell Jordan what Norman told me. I’m scared to say anything to him. Norman explained about the ring Talise put her soul in for Jordan and the dagger that altered after Jordan killed Talise.”

” Jordan will be okay,” Nina said.”He hasn’t been in a good place since he thought you died but I think having his older brother back will make him much happier.”

“He despises Talise as I said,  I don’t know how he’ll ever see her as more than an evil sea witch. Honestly, I don’t know if can see her as anything but an evil person, despite what she did in the end that night.” Nina admitted. John nodded in agreement.

“What else did Norman say?” Nina asked. John sighed, wishing he could keep some of what Norman told him to himself. But John knew he had to be truthful with Nina, in this most significantly

“Norman said, I had no faith. He referenced a Bible verse John 1:5 which talks about light always shining in the darkness and chasing it away. It’s a verse I remembered from Sunday School.”

“No faith in God?” Nina said. ” I know you have faith in God John. You told me He was the only one looking out for you when everything in life goes badly for you. You go to church too. I went with you a few times if you recall.” Nina said.

“It wasn’t only faith in God, Norman was telling me about. He told me I was missing the bigger picture of life, so caught up in details and my own problems. Makes sense I guess, I’m an editor by craft.” John mused.

“But Norman also said I didn’t have faith my curse would ever be broken. He told me about you telling Rianne about people wanting magic solutions but not believing in them.”

Nina smiled. “It’s one of my favourite quotes from Alice in Wonderland. And yes, I believe in magic both good and bad.”

“Norman said I didn’t believe the curse could have good magic. I didn’t have faith God would work things out for me. I didn’t have faith I would live when the curse was broken. I didn’t have faith in you, that we could ever spend our lives together. I didn’t believe in my dreams.”

John appeared tired to Nina again, but she thought it was more the weight of finally having unburdened himself of the truths Norman had revealed to him, that had exhausted him. She hoped the lightness John felt earlier would return.

“Was Norman right John?” Nina asked.

“At the time, he was exactly right. I didn’t have faith in much of anything. It’s why I spent a good seven or eight-years doing nothing but working and going through women. Even when I met you and I hoped for more, I thought keeping you was a long shot.”

“When I knew I loved you and believed you were met for me, Talise was back causing trouble and targeting you. I always thought it wouldn’t work out in the end because Talise wouldn’t let me go until I was dead.” John admitted.

Nina patted John’s arm soothingly before grabbing his hand with her smaller one. ” Before you went away that night, you didn’t have much faith. You were afraid for me and you broke up with me. You loved me I know, but you didn’t believe that their could be a good side to magic, that a curse broken might end well.”

Even the magic Talise was wielding wasn’t always wicked. Your Dad said that night we all had dinner, most sea witches use both light and dark magic. They need a balance. When Talise became evil, the effects of malevolent magic on her were obvious.”

“I think that goes with your belief in magic too. You can’t believe it’s all bad, that a curse would end tragically. You needed to believe in life and have faith things would work out in the end for the good. I believed you would return time. I’m not saying I never doubted you would come home, but today you did. My prayers and faith rewarded.” Nina squeezed John’s hand tighter.

“I know. I understand now my Nina. It’s why Norman told me the Bible verse from John. No matter how dark it seems, light is always there to drive the darkness back, to drive evil back. It even drove the darkness out of Talise.” John said.

Nina smiled.”I told Talise as I lay dying from her poison bite, she had a choice. She didn’t have to be evil. She changed in that moment. So even though she cast the curse originally, and had little power over its eventual outcome, light and benevolent magic won out.”

John gazed at Nina admiring her soft skin and the way her thin T-shirt hung on her breasts. He noted how her waist dipped in and her hips flared, creating the beautiful curves of her body. ”

“You’re amazing, stubborn, smart, and beautiful Nina. I can’t believe not having faith, almost made me lose everything, lose you.” John reached for Nina, grasping her around her waist and holding her as close as he could while tracing her face with his lips.

Nina could feel the inescapable and enthralling heat and electricity moving between her and John. She ran her hand under John’s shirt and gasped at the feel of his smooth naked skin. John’s lips kissed Nina’s neck teasingly before he bit her gently. His kisses moved up Nina’s jaw about to meet her lips and his hands were under her T-shirt, ready to tear it off her when the door bell rang.

Not waiting a moment, John’s family burst in through the door.

Happiness is the Fish That You Can Catch!

HappinessIs+Not+A+Fish+That+You+Can+CatchIf any of you are Our Lady Peace fans you will know that I changed the title of one of their CD’s for my blog title. There title was Happiness is Not a Fish That You Can Catch but when I picture this title I think of happiness as being something that is very elusive just like a gold-fish slipping through your cupped hands again and again as you try to catch it. But sometimes, if your lucky and you are looking at the world just right, Happiness is A Fish that You Can Catch because you see, that little gold-fish is already caught in your fish bowl or pond. The way one looks at the world has a lot of precedence in how things can appear. Then again, you might just be lucky and see the world in a unique light somedays, such as seeing the world in the glow of happiness.

What have I got to be so happy about, well I can’t explain it exactly. Everything just seems to be finally working out and going well. I’m not sure why but I think these times that make us content help us make it through the hard times. Something that has made me very happy is the ability to sleep well. I went to my Sleep Doctor and he gave me a drug that is used to help epilepsy patients sleep deep and not have episodes in their sleep. A large effect of this drug is that it can make you really drowsy. The side effects are what I’m using the drug for because I have gone from using over 20, 5 mg melatonin to a couple of these new pills and 6 melatonin. I sleep so deeply and wake up feeling extremely refreshed, something that has eluded me for a long time. So, I’m excited to wake up and feel energetic, at least for a little while. I also am (maybe not rightly so) elated that my sleep doctor is in agreement with my psychiatrist that something else is going on with my health that isn’t psychiatric. When I first had the psychotic episode and became depressed this was not caused by something psychiatric it was caused by the unknown factor, let’s call it x. I am waiting now this week to hopefully see my family doctor and I have hope that what I am experiencing (x) is something that can be changed because it is physical in nature. Maybe it is naïve for me to think this but it is the most hopeful I have felt about my health in a long time.

Secondly, I have been able to shop a ton lately. I know this isn’t such a great or unique thing for a lot of people. But I’ve been on a budget and had to cut back on my spending, especially on clothing and things I would just like to have. Sometimes affording the things I needed has been tough. But I saved up for Christmas, had some money left from a dress I’d saved up for and returned to Anthropologie,  and had a gift card from Anthropologie because they accidentally sent me 2 extra dresses after I returned the first, so I was able to shop to my heart’s content. And although I appreciated buying some items for myself, what I loved the most was shopping for and finishing my shopping for my family and friends down to the mandetory chocolates. I did most of my shopping online and I think that was a good idea because it would have exhausted me getting all that I needed to buy in two or three long trips to the mall ( except for wrapping paper, gift bags, and chocolate). I think everyone will like their gifts and I’m excited for them to arrive in the mail so I can wrap everything up and put my presents together.

Not to mention, I carefully chose a couple of items for myself that I will show you here. The first thing I bought was a slip from Anthropologie. It is beautiful and fits like a dream. It is very elegant and the cream is white enough that it looks good on my pale skin. I love the lingerie at Anthropologie it is so classy.

The second item that I bought, that by the way, was totally worth it, was the Babyliss Miracurl. The Babybliss Miracurl is this curling tool with a big top and instead of you wrapping you hair around a wand or curling iron, you comb out a section of hair about 1″ and place it in the open top and as you close the tool the Miracurl sucks the strand in and curls it for you. You can change the curl direction from left to right. You can also change how long you hair is in the curling thing (for 8 s, 10 s, 12 s, or as many seconds as you want) and this will change the tightness of your curl when you you unclench the Miracurl. You can also change the heat setting from 350 degrees, 410 degrees, and 450 degrees. I have used the Miracurl a couple of times and for my straight, thick, and fine hair I would hold it for about 15 to 20 seconds in 450 heat to get really tight curls because my hair does not curl easily. I think the Babyliss Miracurl is better than the Conair version which is about $100 ( the Miracurl is $200 on nailpolishcanada.com) because you can choose the curl direction and heat temperature. Conair often has not the best products as well so I would tend to trust a Salon brand and not Conair even though Conair can be good sometimes. The first time we tried the

Miracurl was at a beauty Store (my mom and I) and we were quite impressed. Once you become good at it, the Miracurl is faster than a curling iron and your curls are more alike and not all different sizes.

The last thing I bought was 2 white blouses and a little silky baseball jacket from Simon’s. They were each $19.99 and I didn’t figure I would find better deals this week for Black Friday. Simon’s is a great department store for a variety of items of different price range from cheap to very expensive. Everything goes on sale and the the store in Edmonton is huge. You can go to West Edmonton Mall where Simon’s is located and simply spend a shopping trip in Simon’s for Men’s clothing, Woman’s clothing, and homestyle items such as sheets and place mats. It is also simple to shop online at http://www.simons.ca, you can even use Paypal.

The next reason I am happy is football season in Canada is over. It was a disappointing season for my Edmonton Eskimos who never made it near the playoffs. I had to live with a Grey Cup between the Saskatchewan Roughriders (My Dad’s Team) and Hamilton Ti-Cats. In homage to Saskatchewan I am wearing Rider green eyeliner today, good job Rider’s! Now to hockey season. The Edmonton Oilers have won 3 games in a row and that’s great for them. I’m getting excited because if they keep winning their games such as they are we could have a competitive NHL team here. So Oilers please don’t disappoint me, football season was enough.

I am also happy just because my life is starting to have purpose again. I feel awake and alive. I feel full of possibilities. This editing certificate I am doing has really made me think that I can go farther in this business of writing than I thought I could. It can help me refine my writing and that’s what I need, to be able to see my mistakes and know how to correct them creatively. I am just so pleased to be doing school again after Christmas and than to finally finish and graduate from my Residential Design Certificate by taking Lighting in Spring semester at the U of A. I hope I have a little more energy then because I will have to go to the dreaded night classes at the U of A Extension building. So, I will have a busy time ahead of me as these courses overlap about a month and half, but I will try to have Editing 101 done before I start Lighting. As I end Lighting, I am thinking of taking a summer course. I have a few options I could start in May or June and wouldn’t have to be finished until August or September. I will see how it goes once I get to summer but generally, routine is a great idea for me because I know what I have to look forward to and can plan my days from there. The same as having a job, does for most people.

Also, the weather in Edmonton has been beautiful these past few days for November. I get to see my boyfriend and spend time with him for a week next week and I was invited to a good friend’s wedding next September that I am so happy for. The world is just looking up. Positive thoughts and a positive view on the Christmas season are vital, I am so excited to give out presents, spend time with my family, and take part in all our Christmas traditions. One month to go. Peace out for now.
