Moral Monday’s Flash Fiction: Never Abuse Her

Thank you to Nortina S for hosting Moral Monday’s prompts. This week’s moral is: “There is no fear in love.”

——–

Dimitri Otis Images

———

The first time Lilly saw Marco, he bought her coffee in line at Starbucks near work. He insisted on buying her coffee everyday. Lilly was upset. She could afford her own coffee.

“Why do you buy my coffee everyday?”

“I enjoy treating you. I was going to ask you out as well, if that’s okay?” Marco asked,  Lilly blushed.

——–

A year later, they were engaged, however; Lilly spilled her coffee on Marco’s favourite shirt, one Saturday.

Marco sighed and lifted his hand and Lilly shrank down, thinking he was going to hit her as her last boyfriend had.

Instead, Marco put his arms around Lilly and hugged her.”I will never abuse you; I’m sorry you’ve experienced it before.”

Three Line Tales: The Farmer and His Thoughts. #3LineTales #amwriting #thoughts

Thanks to Soya of 100 Words Or Less for hosting 3 Line Tales.

1.A  tired day dawns; I rose early so I could start mowing the fields, making hay before the sun shines; the morning air is crisp and there is a slight breeze wafting from the house, apple pie; how can I smell such a scrumptious flavour out in the fields?

2. In late morning, my stomach hungers for pie and for more food, something filling and some coffee; I find myself lost in my head, tired and eyes drooping from waking up at 4:00 am; there are still more fields to mow; shading my eyes, I observe the sky, such a clear brilliant blue; the beautiful sky illuminated by bright sunlight shock me, and I feel awake again.

3. It’s near the end of the day and my body is weary from mowing and all my other chores on the farm; I plan and ensure next year their is a bountiful harvest and more cows for milk and beef; yet I sigh, I dream a career change in my future ; but what does a lifetime farmer do? A man who didn’t graduate high school, how does he start a new?

Writing 101: What I Do When I Don’t Write #everydayinspiration

Today’s Writing 101 Prompt is:

What do you do when you’re not writing? How do you reset and return to the dashboard, refreshed? What do you need in your day-to-day life to maintain balance: Running? Yoga? Gardening? Painting? Cooking?

img_0886

I’ve let this prompt sit a few days. There is not to much I can tell you which isn’t on my About The Author page or on my Gravatar Profile on the side menu of my blog.

What I do the most when I’m not writing is read. I read other blogs, trying to stay up to date on other people’s writing and posts, making comments, and exploring new blogs.

I enjoy reading and looking at fashion magazines. Instyle is my favourite fashion magazine. Magazines are an interesting source of media as you can read it paper format and on your tablet, and receive varied information for each method of reading the magazine. I like how on the tablet you can go into all the websites of the various clothing, makeup, and accessories advertised or shown. I go on Pinterest and I pin interesting outfits I like. Often, the clothing is priced way out of my budget but finding similar pieces of clothing in my budget range is interesting to me.

I’m also into reading books when I’m in the mood. I read fast as I’ve said before so often, I’m waiting in-between book releases for the next book in the series to come out. Most of my library is now on IBooks but I do have some books on Kobo and Kindle. Every once in a while if it’s a classic book, I will read and buy the book in paperback.

Watching videos on YouTube on makeup and doing hair is also fascinating. I’m a girly girl and I like to stay on trend in makeup. I try different products out if I think I will use them.

Shortly, I plan to have a couple of makeup pieces out. One post on products I’m using having to do with eyes and another on products not associated with eye makeup. Additionally, I never knew how to put my hair up growing up so I figured a few years ago that it was time to learn. Now I know several styles and ways to put my hair up or half-up. I try to go for elegant in both hair and makeup. Not sure it always works.

I also watch a few of my favourite TV shows including Grey’s Anatomy, Scandal, How To Get Away with Murder, The Catch, Grimm, The Vampire Diaries, Chicago Fire, and off and on The Big Bang Theory and The Blacklist. Sometimes I watch hockey and football. In addition, I watch movies and various TV series on Netflix and I love going to see movies in the theater.

The most cost effective way to see a movie with a friend or relative is to buy a movie pass at Costco (or other places you might now of) for either Landmark Cinemas or Cineplex Odeon where I live, and then you can buy two movie passes, two medium/large popcorns, and two drinks for about $25.00/pass. You save yourself $25.00 at least when you go to see a movie using a pass.

Whenever I have energy and often even when I don’t, I do yoga. It stretches sore muscles out and it gives your body flexibility. I live right next to a couple of parks so I also enjoy walking in and around the park area a few times a week.

When I have money to do it, I enjoy shopping in-store and online. It depends on what I am looking for as to whether I buy it online or in-store. Often, online shopping is cheaper but it isn’t cheaper if you end up with items you don’t wear or don’t use.

Once or twice a week I see a friend and we do something such as have wine, coffee, see a movie, go for dinner, etc. At times I go out to a coffee shop to write in a different setting on my own.

I do stuff with my Mom as well and we have lunch, visit my Baba, go shopping, or go to an event such as The Women’s Show, or a Craft Show at the Agricom. I went to Make It Edmonton a couple of times this year and liked it a great deal.

Most of the time, I spend a lot of hours writing. For as long as I can concentrate, I write.

Maydays: Flash Fiction – Her Name Isn’t Susan. #Maydays

Thank you to CL Kaley of new2blogging for the #Maydays prompt a coffee break fantasy.

“Ahhhh, coffee. I love it. Would you like some?” Peter asked the woman. He didn’t remember her name.

“I don’t drink coffee, thanks Peter,” Sally said her throat feeling raw.”I could use some water, or orange juice if you have any?”

Peter peered into his fridge. It was bare. “Um, Susan, I have cranberry juice is that alright?”

“I guess. And my name is Sally, Peter.”

“Oh. Uh. Sorry Sally, I drank a lot last night.” Peter said.

Sally shrugged. “Whatever Peter.”

“Actually, you’ve been calling me Susan since your third beer last night. I kept correcting you every time but you kept calling me her name. Who’s Susan?” Sally questioned.

Peter appeared nervous. “She’s no one. Just an old girlfriend.”

“Ah,” Sally remarked, “I understand now. Got any whole wheat or multigrain bread for toast?”

Peter wasn’t listening. He drank his coffee remembering the morning Susan left.

——

“Where are you going?” Peter asked Susan.

“I’m leaving Peter. I’ve had enough. I can’t take this anymore.” Susan said. She had all her possessions boxed up and had hired a mover to load up the furniture she purchased.

“You have to have seen this coming.”

“No, we had one fight and now your leaving me?” Peter asked.

“It wasn’t one fight, it was many fights over three-years. You never understood. It always came down to the same thing.” Susan remarked.

“What, what did it come down to?”

“You Peter. It came down to you. You always did whatever you wanted, demanding I tag along. When it came to doing what I had to do for a work event or visiting my my friends, you never showed up.”

“Time and time again, you told me to quit my job. That I shouldn’t be spending so much time working or visiting my own friends.” Susan said, “I’m not putting up with your controlling behaviour anymore.”

“But. ..”

“No, Peter. I have a life. My own life. I’m tired of explaining things to you.” Susan said frustrated.

Peter was speechless as the movers came, taking the furniture Susan bought, and all of her things away.

When Susan and the movers left, Peter felt the gnawing emptiness of his condo.

—–

” Peter is there bread for toast?” Sally asked.

“What?” Peter asked lost in his head.”Oh no, sorry haven’t been grocery shopping this week. There’s cereal?”

Sally sighed. “It’s fine. I’ll drink my cranberry juice and be on my way.”

“Leaving so soon? Want to. . . ”

“No, Peter I’m fine. I don’t think I can handle being called Susan again.” Sally remarked.

When Sally left, Peter remembered the emptiness he felt without Susan. Sally reminded him, he was a failure with women. Peter returned to bed to sleep off his hangover.

Shelley introduced her teenage daughter to Kelsey with pride. “Charlotte’s so involved, tell Kelsey what you do besides school?”

Charlotte said: “I play volleyball, basketball, and soccer after school and weekends. I’m head of the student council and grad committee. I sing in choir and take piano lessons. Also, I read with children in primary school.  At church I play piano and read Bible verses during the service.”

Kelsey was slightly shocked. “You do all this? When do you get to have coffee or see a movie with your friends?”

Charlotte frowned, “I’ve no time for activities with friends.”

NaPoWriMo: Poem – Italian(Petrarchan) Sonnet – “Wanderings While You Drink and Eat”

img_1070-1

And now, our (optional) prompt! Today, I challenge you to write a poem about food. This could be a poem about a particular food, or about your relationship to food in general. Or it could simply be a poem relating an incident that involves food, like David Ignatow’s “The Bagel”. Still not convinced? Perhaps these thirteen food poems will give you some inspiration. Happy writing!

For more information on the prompt please see NaPoWriMo. For more information on the form of an Italian or Petrarchan Sonnet please see this link. Also, I’m completing some of last few days of The Daily Prompt by using the word prompts: Faraway, Street, Precious, and Contrast.

——-

http://www.parisbreakfasts.blogspot.com

——
Faraway, ambling drinking coffee,

Down a mysterious street, you walk laughing.

Directionless, photographing —

Precious memories, chewing on toffee.

Character of contrast, stopping now for latte.

Ambling streets, choreographing,

Dancing; burgeoning day, head feels foggy.

Blending in, eat croissant, drinking frappe.

——

Precious time flying, enjoying frivolity.

In your head, faraway, day calls, “live me.”

Deaf to the calls, adoring causality,

Contrast with the shadows, brilliance you see,

Time spent wasting days, absurdity.

Now’s the day, eat your chocolate cake; be free.

A List of Ways I Show Love to the People I Love and A List of the Small Ways I Celebrate in Life.

Thanks to La Duchesse D’erat for the list prompts this week:

A. How we show love to the people we love

B. How we celebrate.

—–

Showing Love

1. I buy flowers for the women in my life (flowers they would like) such as my Mom, friend, or Godmother every now and then so they feel appreciated and because some of them don’t receive flowers from their husbands often.

2. I buy sweet treats for some of people in my life such as my brothers, Dad, Mom, and friends. Favourites are Gluten Free Macaroon cookies from Cookies by George or Gluten Free cupcakes of any flavour for my Dad. Everyone else enjoys Purdy’s Mint Melties, Hedge Hogs, Sweet Georgia Browns, Plane Milk Chocolate, or Coconut Cream Chocolate bars. Cupcakes, mainly chocolate ones work too.

3. I send notes in the mail to my Grandmas who I can’t see as often as I wish. I wrote my Grandma Reeder a poem and mailed it to her and I try to remember my Grandmas on their Birthday’s and at Christmas time, with a card and a treat when we visit.

4. I spoil my bestfriends with birthday presents such as giftcards to stores they would enjoy, makeup they would like, or a mixture of items that are about their tastes. I try to visit my friends as best as I can but it’s always nice to be remembered on your birthday. Wine works great, a nice red wine does the trick!

5. I bake treats sometimes like chocolate fudge brownies, rhubarb cake, chocolate turtle squares, chocolate chip cookies, and apple sauce branmuffins for my family to enjoy.

6. I do extra cleaning at home or I try to remember to do a job the way my parents like the job to be done.

7. Once in a while, I take a family member, friend, or favourite date out for dinner and pay for it, whatever they like to eat including drinks and dessert. I trust these people so I know they won’t go overboard.

8. I talk with friends family often and I listen well and let them say whatever they need to say. If they’re looking for input, I give thoughtful input. I’m also complimentary when I talk to people, trying to find good and nice aspects about them. It’s much easier to get along with people when they don’t see you as a threat or competition. This being said, I’m honest if they truly want my opinion or they are hurtful to me; I’m no doormat.

9. I pray for everyone I can remember at night. Everyone needs prayer and I don’t always remember those I need to remember, but I attempt to get everyone in my prayer. I pray for those people who make my life miserable too because at times the best way to deal with them is to pray for them.

10. I share my faith in Christ and God in my writing, and I try to show my faith in my actions and voice. By no means am I perfect, and I miss many chances to witness but I try and the Holy Spirit guides me. If you have something that is utterly life changing and gives hope you want to share it.

———-

Celebrating

1. Well into my twenties, I would celebrate the end of the week, stress from work, and or school, by going out and drinking and dancing; especially, after midterms or finals. These days, I feel a two-day hangover is not worth it. When I was younger it only took a morning to bounce back, but two or three glasses of wine with the ladies is divine, with the occasional night out to dance.

2. I will get dessert when I go out for supper. Something that is chocolate cake with Carmel sauce and ice cream if the dessert menu is sufficient. I usually never order dessert otherwise.

3. I go out and do something with a friend(s) whether that be dancing, supper, drinks, movies, coffee, yoga, brunch, or walking. It’s fantastic to be with your favourite people and share your good news in a great conversation.

4. I shop or plan to shop for a new outfit or cute shoes if I’m able.

5. If I’m only giving myself a small reward, I will go buy myself a package of Three Lindt chocolate balls or an ice cream sandwich. I suppose I’m too motivated by food.

6. I go on vacation, celebrating each year and all it’s trials and good times too. Doesn’t have to be anywhere big, only a week in a fresh city with new things to do and see.

11. How Was Last Night For You: Talise at the Farmer’s Market

Read Chapter 10 here.

Chapter 11: Talise at The Farmer’s Market

Nina was delighted to have John take her to the farmer’s market. She enjoyed the atmosphere of the popular market which provided farm-grown produce, baked goods, prepared foods, as well as handmade speciality goods. A modest-sized warehouse with murals of oceanic scenes, was home for the market during the Winter months in Adare. In the late spring, the market moved outdoors so people could bask in the sunshine as they shopped.

The quick drive downtown, however, was silent. Nina was busy worrying about Rianne and her broken arm as well as her  confrontation with Talise. John was distant and brooding as he drove his Mercedes and parked a few blocks away from the market.

The aroma of fresh produce, sweet and inviting, met Nina as she walked into the crowded warehouse. The smell of fresh bread made both Nina and John inhale and smile at each other. Nina shoved her worries to the back of her mind. She immediately began talking to some of the merchants she knew, tugging John’s hands. Nina went to a few different tables she knew would be promising to find the best price for some vegetables. At different tables Nina bought an array of lush organic vegetables.

She was drawn to a table which sold spice blends called Cumin and See.  The company had spice mixtures, seasonings, and recipes for food. Nina purchased their special Caesar salad spice, a sweet cinnamony spice for apple cider, and a mixture of spices for a warm cheesy dip which would taste superb with crackers or chips. Nina wasn’t only buying for supper, she was thinking some down time would be a good idea soon.

Nina browsed along the tables where handcrafted jewelry was displayed. She gently held a fine 14k gold chain with a lustrous pearl and a tiny charm that read ‘beloved.’ John noticed Nina eyeing the necklace before she reached out and ran her finger over the pearl pendant and charm. John smiled at the cheerful merchant selling homemade jewelry at her booth and asked the lady how much for the necklace Nina was admiring.

” Oh don’t, it’s fine John. It’s $229.00 for this little chain. It’s not worth it.” Nina whispered to John.

“But you love it, right?” John said.”You’re worth it to me.”

Nina blushed at John’s praise and nodded her head. She did love the necklace,  it was classic. John ran his hand through Nina’s soft hair playfully before paying for the necklace with a swipe of his Visa. John carefully opened the fine necklace and clasped it around Nina’s neck. She loved the necklace and John’s gesture of buying her something. Nina adored that gesture a great deal.

“Thank you John,” Nina said sincerely, leaning up to kiss John on the lips.”Pay you back with some dessert sometime.” The kiss deepened and some people were openly gawking.

John smirked at Nina, aware he’d put on a show and held Nina’s hand as she went to a table that offered baked goods and bought an aromatic delicious apple pie for dinner. ” I love apple pie” John murmured to Nina, “Apple pie is more then enough in exchange for the necklace. Not that you had to get me anything.”They shared a warm companionable and heated gaze before Nina was distracted by more goods being sold.

Nina let go of John’s hand and went to browse among the tables of items.  She wasn’t often able to make it to the market in the winter time; work often meant overtime. Nina browsed aware John was worried some awful event might happen if they remained at the market long.

John had been looking at some homemade red wine, drinking a coffee when Nina last saw him. But when she turned around, John had disappeared into the crowd. Nina wasn’t too worried. John had his Samsung on him and she had her Iphone. The market wasn’t huge and it wouldn’t be impossible for Nina to find John in ten minutes or so while she shopped. Nina’s eyes immediately admired a baby pink scarf made of silk and light as air, hanging on rack of scarves beside a table.

A carefully manicured hand with sea green nail polish touched the delicate pink scarf and held it up so Nina could see how delicate and pretty the scarf was. Nina didn’t look up at the vendor because she was memorized by the way light hit the scarf. John could have bought her this scarf she thought, but she truly loved the gold necklace. She would purchase the scarf herself, Nina decided.

” Do you like it?” a girly voice asked Nina. Nina was to busy admiring the scarf, but then the voice said: “This would look wonderful on you Nina. It is exactly the right color of pink for your skin.” Nina knew the woman’s voice. She looked up to see Talise in a floaty silk blue blouse and leggings, behind the table.

“Oh” Nina said, “Talise, I didn’t know you had a booth here. Your scarves are gorgeous.” Talise smiled.

“It’s my friends booth. She’s the artist. I’m only filling in for her today. But she did tell me I could have any scarf of my choice. I would like for you to have my scarf. Take the light pink scarf Nina it suits you.” Nina was surprised, touched, and a suspicious of Talise’s gift. But she didn’t want to appear ungracious, even though she loved the pink scarf. She wrapped the silk perfection around her neck.

” That’s nice of you Talise. I didn’t think we were off to a friendly start at the fundraiser. You were judgemental of John and his past. How’s Malcolm?”

“Oh, he’s fine. He’s watching the Broncos play football,  while I do this. He loves sports. As for John, I’m only concerned about your safety with John, Nina. I don’t think he’s a reputable guy from my own experiences. For some reason, I always felt accidents and bad things occurred around John. Maybe, I’m only imagining these events, but I think you can do better than John.”

“It wasn’t your friend who John and his brothers laughed at when you said your friend loved  John, was it?  It was you?” Nina asked Talise in a flash of realization. Talise’s jewel green eyes shed a tear and then went blank.

“Yes, it was me,” she said. “I loved him and he talked about me behind my back. I wasn’t valuable to him. It was onto the next girl with John.”

Nina let her breath out nervously stroking the soft silk scarf Talise had given her. She felt wrong accepting the scarf now. Nina felt as if by wearing it she somehow agreed with Talise’s opinion of John now, that he was still a womanizer and a selfish man.

Nina felt she couldn’t give the scarf back to Talise, because she didn’t want to have a confrontation with her. She clutched the necklace John had bought her, hidden under the scarf. The necklace gave her hope and courage to defend John once again.

Flash Fiction for the Aspiring Writer: The Sunflower House

Note: I’m sorry this is longer then 175 words but this is as concise as I can get this particular story. Enjoy!

——

One day, Tina and Trisha were smoking and breaking sunflowers in an elderly lady’s flowerbeds across from their high school. Kayla witnessed the carnage and felt bad she hadn’t intervened. She knocked on the old woman’s door:

“I’m sorry,” Kayla said. “I should’ve stopped those girls from destroying your sunflowers. I was afraid.”

The woman named Janice smiled, “I have lived here fifty-years and each year, students break my sunflowers. It’s okay. How old are you, dear?”

“Eighteen, in my last semester of high school. I’m going to Brown in the Winter.” Kayla said proudly. Janice smiled and invited Kayla in for coffee.

Tina and Trisha were back in Janice’s flower beds the following day. With their cigarettes, they started a fire. Trisha pushed Kayla into the burning sunflowers as Kayla shouted at them to stop.

A cold blast of water put the fire out. Kayla saw Tina and Trisha running away from the flowerbeds soaked. A hot guy smiled at Kayla.

” You stood up to those girls,” the hot guy said. “Gran Janice said you were too afraid before. Her and I were having coffee and saw those girls setting a fire and pushing you in. I came to help. Gran said you’re someone I should know.”

“Devon right?” Kayla said eyeing Janice’s hot grandson. He smiled, pulled Kayla to her feet, and held her hand in his.

Writing 101: Day 11 – Coffee Shop Talk

Green-Tea
http://www.rivertea.com
I don`t drink coffee; there is a harsh and bitter flavour to coffee and I don`t think I should be wasting any calories on a drink I don’t enjoy. I like tea. I will buy some speciality tea in a store and drink it for awhile but then I just become tired of it. When I go to a beauty salon, I ask for green tea. I attempt to get that part right, drink green tea because it improves your metabolism.

Once in awhile, I will have skim hot chocolate, but it`s to easy to keep drinking those so I don`t do it often. I have the green tea or I have an unsweetened cold passion fruit tea from Starbucks. It`s as if you were drinking hot tea, except that it is extremely flavourful and cold. Now that you know about what I`d like to drink (don`t worry I`ll get your`s too – chia latte you say), I could tell you a bit about what`s been going on in my life.

My main project has been this Proposal for Residential Furnishings. I have been taking this course all Fall from home to complete my Residential Interior`s Certificate that I began back in 2009. It will be good to be finished the certificate. But I emailed in the paper after fixing the ‘Works Cited’ page. There are all these little details to writing papers and proposals. The biggest challenge is often writing it in the correct format such as MLA or APA. I have been doing my work in Chicago style for awhile now. Blogging and doing articles is more suited to that. So, is free writing. It allows you to do footnotes and endnotes which I think is better then MLA where you include two () at the end of the sentence with the name of the author of the book or article and the number of the page you got the information from. I`m pretty gifted with MLA style because I used it in university and in many courses since. But times have changed, even writing formats, so there are new details to add to the MLA style. But they do have interesting citing tools that will put together bibliographies or a works cited page for you: easybib.com is a helpful site for that. But you will find, you may have to still add certain details once you copy and paste a citation.

But my topic for my proposal is interesting. The exhibit is called: Vanity: Around the Dressing Table. To summarize, our wealthy ancestors wanted to look good, appear powerful, and  fashionable to their peers and those below them in the class system. So, they invented things for the vanity and used little scissors, combs, and perfume vials. Mirrors were very important and their are a lot of superstitions surrounding mirrors, more than seven years bad luck if you break one. Then dressing tables and shaving tables were developed and things such as dressing in a certain way, even in the middle class. The point is, `vanity`is just not about a dressing table but a disposition or attitude that effected people in the past and effects us in the present age. Think about lady’s magazines who popularize a certain look for women or a certain self-image in their pages. Also, our technology makes us vain when we use it to make an image of ourselves on social media or to take a`selfie.`We are a society immersed in vanity. So, maybe I`ll post the paper. I haven`t decided. It`s long and might be boring for people who don`t want to read a lot or are not interested in the history of vanity through historical items I have chosen for this pretend exhibit. But I made up a poster and everything for it. I`m happy with the project and glad it’s done.

Also, I have been blogging like crazy. Writing 101 adds a lot more to write stuff about during the week. I enjoy it but sometimes I have a story in my head and I need to sleep and then I spend until midnight writing and I don`t even realize it. Creativity can be a difficult master.

If you read my story `Dentures`you know about my acidic and grinded down teeth. I have been wearing my mouth guard and taking things seriously. I have slept two nights and it has staid in my mouth. But I must grind my teeth a great deal because I awake with a headache and my teeth hurt. Hopefully, it`s not too late to extend the life of my teeth for sixty years. I’m told by my mother I should start saving for implants now. The whole idea seems horrifying. I had one cavity ever and I hated getting it filled. Now, think about having all your teeth pulled out to put in donated teeth or to not have teeth in your mouth at all — just dentures in the day. That pricks at my vanity.

I have been trying to stay caught up on my favourite TV programs after they have aired and are online. But the internet around my house sucks because everyone is sharing this line for SHAW cable. So, I am watching `Grey`s Anatomy`and the program pauses every few minutes. After `Grey`s`and `How to Get Away with Murder,’ l had enough of the pauses so I went to do something else. But maybe I’ll watch a couple programs tonight.

That reminds me, I have to do my laundry before my Dad comes home and it`s almost 4:30 pm. I am having lunch with a dear friend tomorrow and going to get my nails done on Thursday. Meanwhile, once I get notes again, I will be studying for my final in my class December 1. I also plan to start Christmas shopping if there are some good Black Friday deals. I have a few things I want to get for myself as well.

As for my dating life: It’s nice to be wanted by guys and I have a few who keep bothering me to do stuff with them. The thing is I only have energy to do so much and don`t have energy for relationships or dating right now. I`m flattered, but I`m not interested at the moment. Even when I try, it just never works out. So, that`s on the backburner for now. Maybe in December I will go on a date or two. Or maybe, not. I guess I forget that nothing great ever came from comfort zones. A quote to remember!

Hope things are well with everyone!
