Beauty Fall/Winter 2017: Part One – IT Cosmetics Haul #beauty #amwriting

Wow, has it been a long time since I have been able to do a beauty post. I think back in Spring I did one, but this is the first time since then that I have had the opportunity to tell you about some of my more recent beauty finds. This will at least be a three part series so, enjoy and let me know what you think of some the products. Have you tried any of them? What did you think?

1. IT Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream with SPF 50 + (In Fair) – (www.sephora.ca) – $49.00 CAN

My wear all the time foundation for the last couple of years was an excellent Urban Decay Foundation called “All Nighter,” but I purchased this Your Skin But Better CC+ Cream from IT Cosmetics, as soon as the brand became available in Canada in spring. I had read from countless beauty bloggers with a similar fair skin, hat they loved this CC + cream both for its anti-aging benefits and because it functioned as a matte foundation.

Moreover, when I purchased this CC+ Cream with some other IT Cosmetics loot, I was extremely pleased with their products. The original CC+ Cream works well, providing the full coverage of a foundation. However, it also has moisturizer and anti-aging ingredients plastic surgeons and dermatologists use in their cosmetic skin treatments. For me, the moisturizer and anti-aging products were a plus as the last couple of years my skin has tended to be more normal and less oily. Since my skin is drier, and the extra moisturizer keeps my skin hydrated. I loved that the product had such a high SPF of 50+ as I burn easily and protecting your face from sun damage and future wrinkles is essential in the summer and all year round.

As well, for those of you who do not know the difference between a foundation, a CC cream, and BB Cream I’ll define those briefly. Foundation is extra coverage on your face to make your skin appear flawless and have an even skin tone. It can come in a cream, liquid, stick or in other version but it does not have extra moisturizer or anti-aging benefits. A BB Cream, however, ss essentially a moisturizer with light coverage and a CC cream has anti-aging products, moisturizer, and buildable or full coverage similar to the coverage of light to medium coverage foundation.

This specific CC+ Cream by IT Cosmetics, is one of the best CC + Creams I’ve ever used and it superior to many foundations, providing full matte coverage that stays most of the day. The product descriptions notes that along with having SPF 50 + UVA/UVB rays, the CC+ Cream works to “clinically increase hydration,” give skin a”smooth[er] texture, and enhance [skin] brightness.” As advertised, I have never found this CC + Cream to crack or crease and its great at hiding imperfections.

As well, the matte CC+ Cream from IT Cosmetics is anti-aging and the ingredients in the product include “hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacin, hyaluronic acid, vitamins, and antioxidants” that diminish ” wrinkles” and the size of pores.

If you wear makeup almost every day, a tube of matte CC+ Cream from IT Cosmetics lasts three months and feels lighter than my Urban Decay All Nighter Foundation which I save for when I’m going out and wearing my makeup for 18 to 20 hours. This CC+ Cream is a light feeling makeup for in the day and I definitely recommend it. Its price is also comparable in price to most foundations and the benefits of anti-aging ingredients, make thee CC+ creams one of my new favorites for almost every occasion. I give it 5/5 stars!

2. IT Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better CC+ Illumination Cream with SPF 50 + (In Fair) – http://www.sephora.ca – $49.00 CAN

The second time I ordered the IT Cosmetics Your Skin But Better CC+ Illumination Cream I noticed they had a new version of the CC + Cream out so I decided to try it as it promised full coverage but with a “radiant finish.” I was as happy with this CC+ Cream as the one above, it still had great anti-aging ingredients such as Collagen and Hyaluronic acid which are essential to your skin staying youthful. However, I also liked that the Illumination formula felt a tad lighter on my skin.

IT Cosmetics - Your Skin But Better CC Illumination Cream
Sephora.ca – IT Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better C+ Illuminating Cream SPF 50 + UVA/UVB Protection (Radiant Finish) – $49.00 CAN

I don’t notice that is less matte than the original CC+ Cream or that it shows more glowiness or radiance. However, comparing the two together the first CC+ cream is actually a bit heavier in coverage while this one feels a bit more natural and mixes better with a liquid highlighter cream. The original CC+ Cream doesn’t mix well with liquid highlighters and tends to remain quite matte. However, to get that ‘radiant’ finish a person does have to add their favorite liquid highlighter. Tarte has a great one if you’re interested, check it out HERE.

I have continued using this CC+ Illuminating Cream into Fall and Winter, for the lighter feel and finish of the CC+ Cream compared to the initial CC+ Cream. I ordered it a third time this month and like the original cream, it lasts about three months.

Especially now that its winter, I notice I need the extra moisturizer and after a few months of using both CC+ Creams I do notice my skin is smoother and feels nicer. Also, if you are worried about breaking out I hardly break out with either CC+ Cream and when I attempted to switch back just to a light coverage foundation, it wasn’t comparable to either the illuminating or original CC + Creams not having the moisture or extra anti-aging products.

I have the  color fair in either CC+ Cream and its perfect for my pale skin but the product can be applied lightly enough so that if you were going on vacation somewhere hot and needed good coverage with the  SPF  50+ and UVA/UVB protection, you could use a darker shade of the CC+ cream or add a few drops of a darker foundation to the product. I give the Illumination CC+ Cream 4/5 stars only because I was expecting more luminance from it.

3. IT Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better CC + Airbrush Perfecting Powder SPF 50+ (www.sephora.ca) – $45.00 CAN

When I had oilier skin I went through powder almost as often as I used foundation and I had never found a product comparable to Clinique’s Almost Powder Makeup until I used this Perfecting Powder from It Cosmetics. One of my favorite things about the powder in summer was that the packaging is designed so that sponge has a little place beneath the powder compact so no germs or bacteria end up in the powder.

Also, I used the color fair which was perfect for me. It gave me coverage where I needed, say when using concealer beneath my eyes or over a concealed blemish.

IT Cosmetics - Your Skin But Better CC Airbrush Perfecting Poweder
Credit; Sephora.ca – IT Cosmetics – Your Skin But Better Airbrush Perfecting Powder SPF 50 + – $45.00 CAN

I do put a bit of powder on my skin for contouring and in only in certain areas of my currently normal skin type. When it was warmer, I put the powder where it might be oilier or where my makeup might fade. Now, I simply use a small powder brush to set concealer under my eyes, on my forehead, chin, and under my contour and blush and it lasts me the entire day.

Also, I love that powder feels light and but has excellent coverage. Again, in a warmer place where you tan, a darker powder would work to keep your face more matte. I liked this powder better than the illuminating powder for its coverage in areas a person needs.

My current compact, purchased in spring, has lasted almost a good six months. I’m only now getting down to the bottom of the package which I bought in early spring. IT Cosmetics also has a colorless powder if you don’t like the skin toned powder and don’t need it. As well, if you use the powder all over your face with one of the CC+ Cream it improves the coverage of your makeup a great deal

As well, the powder is made with “skin-loving Drops of Light Technology” that “transform” the appearance of your skin with “optical-blurring pigments that visually camouflage pores, dark spots, and fine lines.” When I put this powder on certain areas or if you put it on your whole face, it most definitely makes your skin appear “soft, flawless, and luminous” as advertised on Sephora.ca.

Moreover, the Air Brush Perfecting Powder’s anti-aging ingredients include “hydrolyzed collagen, peptides, niacin, and silk,” and the coverage of the powder is buildable. I do not have many lines or any wrinkles yet but the product also claims not to settle into lines or wrinkles which is always a bonus.

This is my new favorite powder and comparable in price to my old Clinique Almost Powder makeup as it lasts longer. It also feels lighter on my skin and my skin still feels soft when wearing it. A 5/5 star product for sure!

4. IT Cosmetics – Ombre Radiance Bronzer – http://www.sephora.ca – $44.00 CAN

My first impressions after ordering this Ombre Radiance Bronzer mid-summer was that the Bronze color would be too dark for me even though its a bronzer for most skin tones. I’m quite pale so something too orangy or dark looks ake on my skin especially for bronzing or for contouring.

IT Cosmetics - Ombre Radiance Bronzer
Credit: Sephora.ca – IT Cosmetics -Ombre Radiance Bronzer – $44.00 CAN

However, what I loved about this product as I used it was that it was ombre so that I could essentially mix the bronzer so I used about a medium shade of the ombre on my skin for contouring and the lighter more radiant end for bronzing. If I wanted a look not too matte but a little glowy, I could also mix the light bronzer and the dark bronzer together. Overall the ombre bronzer works well and is a good concept for a bronzer. However, having fair skin I have to be careful not to use the dark and matte end of the bronzer alone.

I liked that the bronzer was big in size for blending in the palette and I also felt like I was receiving my money’s worth. Nevertheless, the cover is similar to a clear bubble and is difficult to put away with other makeup as it sticks up and doesn’t lie flat.

Overall I think the IT Cosmetics Ombre Radiance Bronzer excellent product with 3.5/5 stars. I do think there should be two shades of this bronzer, one for skin with blue or pink tones (and less orange) and one for skin tones that are warmer. It would make it a more effective product for all women. As well, the packaging could be changed to make it easier to store.

5. IT Cosmetics – Brow Power  – Universal Brow Pencil (Universal Taupe) – http://www.sephora.ca – $32.00 CAN

IT Cosmetics - Brow Pow - Universal Brow Pencil
Credit: http://www.sephora.ca – IT Cosmetics – Brow Pow Universal Brow Pencil – $32.00 CAN

This Brow Power Universal Brow Pencil is absolutely one of my favorite brow pencils that I have ever used. It’s not quite a pencil that you sharpen but a thicker brow pencil turning out of the penciled cover with an “ovalled tip.” The pencil is easy to apply to shape brows and to fill in sparse eyebrows.

As brows are a huge makeup trend right now, finding your perfect brow pencil is difficult. However, this pencil is wonderful for many skin tones unless your eyebrows are black or have a warmer tone such as those women who are redheads or have more red in their natural hair color.

As well, if your brows are on the lighter side, you can apply less of the brow pencil. For instance, you can use it to shape your brows and then take the spoolie at the end of the pencil and brush through your brows, using the outside pencil shaping to fill in your naturally lighter toned brows. However, if your eyebrows are naturally a little darker such as mine, you can outline your brows and fill them in a little in the middle, for a more natural looking brow with a bit more definition.

Also, if you wanted a full-on brow look, shaping and filling in your brows with the pencil all over, will give you this bold look.  Moreover, it is my opinion that a brow gel such as Benefit’s Volumizing Brow Gel gives your brow hairs a more defined look and more volume with the Benefit Brow Gel or a similar product. You can also use less brow pencil inside your brows when using a volumizing brow gel.

IT Cosmetics writes that their Universal brow pencil is infused with “proprietary Brow Power™ Technology and brow-enhancing ingredients.” These include ingredients such as “biotin, saw palmetto, and antioxidants.” The “oval tip” of the pencil is also meant to “mimic” the “look of real hair” and the formula of the pencil is “budge-proof” and long-lasting.

My only thought was that a person who has a warmer skin tone might need a brow pencil that is a warmer brown and not a cool taupe. For me the Brow Power IT Cosmetics brow pencil is perfect and I would give it 5/5 stars.

It also lasts a bit over 2 months which is excellent for a quality brow pencil and the price is comparable to say the Anastasia Brow Definer or Benefit Goof Proof Easy Shape and Fill Brow Pencil which tends to be around $30.00 but come in more shades.

6. IT Cosmetics – Vitality Lip Flush Hydrating Lip Gloss Soft Stain – High Shine Finish – (Color: Je Ne Sais Quoi) – http://www.sephora.ca – $25.00 CAN

If you’re like me, you might not be a big lipstick person. Partly because you choose not to focus on your lips in your makeup routine, or partly because you want a more natural lip color that moisturizes and stays on your lips. Although this Vitality Lip Flush is a neat product as it alters lip color to your natural PH level, and your best pink lip color, it’s only moisturizing when you have it on your lips.

IT Cosmetics - Hydrating Lipstick
Credit: Sephora.ca – IT Cosmetics Hydrating Lip Gloss Soft Stain with High Shine Finish – $25.00 CAN

It is not long lasting and once it wears off your lips, they tend to feel dried out even though this lip product is supposed to hydrate well. The Lip Flush appears beautiful when you have it on but it needs to be re-applied every half hour or so. It’s also anti-aging and creates a “pink stain” on your lips which looks pretty, natural, glossy, and healthy.

The product is created with IT Cosmetics’s “Hydra-Luxe™ technology” with ingredients such as “plum oil, cherry oil, shea butter, aloe, and jojoba” that are all supposed to “hydrate, condition, and nourish” your lips. For me, I didn’t like how my lips felt when the product had worn off.

On the upside, it is a great product for all skin tones as it adapts to your perfect pink lip color. It’s not a bad product and I do think its benefits outweigh its ‘cons’ so I would give the product 3 /5 stars as its extremely versatile and moisturizing for the time it remains on your lips.

Beauty Haul Winter 2016/2017: Part Two

Good Morning! I’ve been meaning to do this post for awhile as part one was done before Christmas. I have an interesting selection of beauty products since the Fall Beauty Haul and I hope you find this post useful in your own Beauty Product selection.

1. Make Up Forever Excessive Lash Arresting Volume Mascara – (www.sephora.ca) – $31.00 CAN

img_2965-1
Make Up Forever Excessive Lash Arresting Volume Mascara (0.15 oz) – $31.00 CAN – http://www.sephora.ca

I received this mascara as a sample from Sephora. I adore Make Up Forever products in general so I was excited to try another of their mascaras. As usual, since my mascara never stays on my lashes unless the mascara is waterproof, I put on a coat of a waterproof L’Oreal mascara after applying the sample mascara. I like this Make Up Forever mascara, it’s quite black and the brush does a good job of creating volume for your lashes, but I’m not thrilled by this mascara. It’s a middle-of-the-line mascara and I think if you bought it you would like it, but not be overly impressed. There isn’t a wow factor to it. Honestly, there is not much difference between The Make Up Forever Excessive Lash Mascara and the L’Oreal one I put over top. The brush is the same, the opacity of the mascara the same,  and the only difference is the L’Oreal mascara is waterproof. I’d say this rates about a three out of five stars for a mascara.

2. Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner Pencil – (www.sephora.ca)- $29.00 – Two Pencils: One in Stingray (Jet Black) and Lion Fish (Deep Bronze Sheen)

winter-2017-lion-fish-eyeliner-stila
Stila Smudge Stick Waterproof Eyeliner (Pencil) This one one Lion Fish – (www.sephora.ca)- 0.28 g – $29.00 CAN

For the longest time, I always used pencil liners because they were easier to apply than the liquid ones I tried; however, then companies such as Lancome led the way coming out with liquid eyeliners which were easy to apply, they had great foam tipped applicators. I have especially used waterproof eyeliner since makeup brands such as Stila and well everyone else, has come out with wonderful liquid eyeliners which are like fine-tip markers for the eyes (pens). Once you learn to apply these awesome liquid eyeliners, they are usually much more vibrant and remain on your eye better than pencil eyeliners.

Nonetheless, during the Christmas season, I was searching for my trusty Stila liquid eyeliner pen in black and Sephora didn’t have any left except in a Christmas Gift Set that was $44.00 CAN and included Jet Black and Lion Fish eyeliner pencils as well. These eyeliner pencils aren’t’ exactly pencils such as the ones you sharpen. Instead, they’re roll-up, which means the tip remains small and pointed. I love them so much as everyday makeup products, enough to permanently add Jet Black pencil liner to my regular makeup purchases when it runs out.

The reason I love these roll-up pencils so much is that they are similar to smudge pot eyeshadows. They glide onto your eye line smoothly and they leave behind pigmented and rich color which is also waterproof, so it doesn’t rub off as many pencil eyeliners do. They are excellent eyeliners especially if you have trouble lining in your upper water line. The roll-up pencils do a fantastic job coloring in waterlines when you need, and remaining on your waterline, which is an extremely difficult feat for a makeup brand to accomplish.

I love Stila’s Jet Black for use on my waterline and sometimes for regular eyeliner. Lion Fish is a bronzy color which is a great change up for a daytime look from using a black liner. Lion Fish also has a bit of shimmer in it instead of being merely being a matte brown liner.

This gift set was completely worth the purchase for $44.oo because I received both these pencil liners and my black liquid eyeliner pen, a cost of about $96.00 regular price before tax. A definite five out of five stars for the Stila Smudge Sticks.

3. Anastasia Beverly Hills Metallic Luster Liner in Liquid Gold – (www.sephora.ca) – $23.00 CAN

winter-2017-anastasia-gold-liner
Anastasia Beverly Hills Metallic Lustre Liner in Liqiuid Gold – (www.sephora.ca) – 0.04 oz – $23.00 CAN

I cannot say Stila is the only pencil eyeliner I was recently impressed with. I had seen that gold eyeliner was a trend for the holiday season. Watching a Pixie Woo’s makeup tutorial on YouTube, I loved how the one Pixie Woo used this Anastasia eyeliner to line her lower waterline and corner of her eyes, it looked fantastic.

But the Anastasia Luster Liner in Liquid Gold was extremely versatile and is a  product and I think I will buy again. It works great on waterlines and the liner stays on with a couple of coats, and it appears beautifully on top of black eyeliner as a bit of a fancy touch. But my most favorite use for this eyeliner pencil was using it on Christmas and New years to fill in my entire eyelid area, then blend it out with other eyeshadow.

I had to be careful doing this as once this waterproof liner sets it remains put. It`s not moving except with eye makeup remover. So if you use the Anastasia liquid gold eyeliner this way, put on most of your eyeshadow before applying the gold liner on your lid. It does take a while to blend other eyeshadow colors into the gold eye pencil if you choose to use it this way. I loved this festive product and think it could be used for special occasions or if you want to add a bit of glimmer to your daytime look in the corner or your eye or your bottom waterline for instance.

I used most of the pencil up over two-months and only have a bit left, but it`s not a product too high priced to purchase again. I`m impressed with how well it works for multiple looks for a waterproof gold eyeliner with such bold and vivid gold color, and not a yellowy gold shade (if you know what I mean). The Anastasia eyeliner also comes in the color Liquid Silver. It was easy to sharpen and it never broke even though the pencil was soft and the color bright.I would give this eyeliner pencil five stars.

4. Origins: High Potency Night-A-Mins™ Mineral-Enriched Renewal Cream – (www.sephora.ca) – $55.00 (1.7 oz/50 ml)

winter-2017-orgins-high-potency-night-a-mins-mineral-cream
Origins High-Potency Night -A -Mins Mineral-Enriched Renewal Cream – (www.sephora.ca) – 1.7 oz/50 ml – $55.00 CAN

So it’s Winter which means for many of us in colder climates, we are experiencing dryer skin. I usually have skin oily enough that it doesn’t seem to require much extra moisture, expect maybe applying my Clinique moisturizing gel twice every few days. This year I had a bit a different experience and found at night, I required a solid moisturizer but one that would not cause me to break out. So I used some of my Sephora points and received a large sized sample of the Origins Night cream and it lasted about a month, so I think the product itself even though it’s $55.00 for the smaller size, would last a person the entire winter.

I had tried eye creams and other one or two day samples from Origins and I have always liked their products and how my skin reacts to them. They are great to moisturize dry skin and even though it was a night cream, I did use it in the day sometimes. It felt wonderful and smelled great. As well, I like that the cream is made out of plant minerals. I have always found these type ingredients to be fantastic indicators of a quality cream/lotion/or gel. I completely recommend this product for dry skin, especially at night. I would give the Origins Night Cream four our of five stars. I can use this in the winter, but not in the summer or spring when the weather seems to indicate I need less moisturizer.

5. NYX Jumbo Eye Pencil  (Eye Shadow)- 611 Yogurt – (www.ulta.com) – $4.49 US ($6 or $7 CAN at Shoppers Drug Mart in Canada)

winter-2017-nyx-eye-pencil
NYX Cosmetics Jumbo Eye Pencil (Eye Shadow) in 611 Yogurt – (www.ulta.com) – 0.18 oz – $4.49

I’ve heard good things about NYX as a cheaper makeup brand. I adore their matte setting spray for makeup so I thought I would try something else from their line. I wanted a base color that I can put on before my other eyeshadow, which is the reason I bought this pencil.

Unfortunately, I bought the wrong shade, it’s a bit too yellow for me and I should have bought a similar shade with more pink in it. But it’s not bad for a shimmery base color and I’ve worn it a few times. The only problem is, I’ve worn the eye pencil down and would think you could sharpen it, but I do not own a sharpener which can fit the jumbo pencil in.

The eye pencil color stays on your eyelids well and doesn’t come off easily. You can blend other eyeshadows of various types into it as well, and the color is easy to cover up if you don’t like the shade but are using it as a base.

I’m not sure where to find a sharpener which fits the NYX jumbo pencil, or if it even can be sharpened? If you know let me know. I think as with most products in the makeup industry, you get what you pay for and the NYX jumbo eyeshadow pencil is an example of this with only a two-star rating.

6. The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Balm With Calming Camomile Extract – Sensitive Skin – MakeUp Remover – (www.thebodyshop.ca) – $16.00 CAN

winter-2017-camomile-sumptuous-cleansing-butter_l
The Body Shop Camomile Sumptuous Cleansing Balm With Calming Camomile Extract for Sensitive Skin – (www.thebodyshop.ca) – 90 ml – $16.00

My last product to share was part of a gift from a friend with many lovely Body Shop Products. They definantly have some nice products and not only lotion and body wash. I was really thrilled with this cleansing balm I received. I wasn’t sure what it was at first.

But, it’s an awesome makeup remover and is also extremely moisturizing at the same time. I have doubts about using it in spring and summer, but right now it’s exactly what my skin needed. I usually use cleansing clothes to remove my makeup and right now I use both. I put the balm all over my face with my hands, including my eyes — it’s awesome at removing any and all eye makeup especially waterproof makeup. The balm feels as if it might be a bit greasy, but it’s not at all. It cleanses your face completely of makeup and works well with the cleansing clothes you can throw away.

The cleansing balm leaves your fast moisturized and feeling great, not to mention, it smells fantastic. If you can get your hands on some I recommend it. Four stars our of five.

Mineral Makeup: Is It A Good Option for Your Skin?

Bare Minerals Powder
Bare Minerals Mineral Veil Powder http://www.sephora.ca

Mineral makeup is not a ‘new’ thing as many of us believe. “Bare Escentuals” sold it’s mineral makeup in the “1970’s,” launching a new powder foundation they claimed was more “natural” than traditional makeup. Mineral makeup began as an alternative to regular foundation. It’s popularity is due to an increase in people’s knowledge of mineral makeup and demand for makeup with as few artificial ingredients as possible. Although makeup with artificial ingredients has an upside, so does the use of mineral makeup.  Mineral makeup has an absence of “filters” such as “talc, chemical dyes, binders, and chemical preservatives,” as well as having “health benefits,” for the user.

Traditional makeup it is most effective in covering up blemishes on the skin. These products provide coverage but they may prevent the skin from breathing and can “worsen redness, blemishes, and dryness of the skin.” In turn, you may need to wear more traditional makeup products due to these issues if they arise.

Natural makeup on the other hand, can give you similar or better coverage in comparison

Clinique Even Better SPF 15 Liquid Foundation
Clinique Even Better Makeup SPF 15 http://www.sephora.ca

to traditional makeup. Often mineral makeups such as foundations, have a buildable coverage. Many woman claim that mineral makeup gives them a more “natural” appearing makeup look. As if, you are not wearing any foundation at all.

Mineral makeup also has an increased shelf life because it does not encourage the growth of bacteria in the product due to how mineral makeup is made. Products aren’t contaminated as they are with the use of traditional makeup products. Aspects of daily life such as heat, rain, and tears, may cause some traditional makeup to melt off or smear. The same issue does not occur with natural makeup which is resistant to unforeseen aspects our makeup goes through on a daily basis.

Becca Mineral Blush
BECCA Mineral Blush http://www.sephora.ca

When applying mineral makeup, a little goes along way. It is best to build coverage in small shear layers until you have the coverage you desire for your foundation. Always wait until your moisturizer has absorbed into your skin first, before applying mineral makeup.

Nonetheless, “Perry Romanowsksi, author of Can You Get Hooked on Lip Balm? Top Cosmetic Scientists Answer Your Questions About the Lotions, Potions and Other Beauty Products You Use Every Day,” doesn’t think mineral makeup is as great as consumers think.'”All makeup is mineral makeup,'” Romanowsksi says. “‘You’ll find the same mineral ingredients — titanium-dioxide, zinc-oxide, mica, and iron-oxides — in conventional products.'”

Mineral makeup includes ingredients such as “titanium-dioxide” and “zinc-oxide.” These are both products found in sunscreen and can protect the wearer of mineral makeup from the damaging and aging effects of the sun. Romanowsksi suggests, however, that a zinc-oxide mine does not exist, “zinc-oxide is synthesized in a lab.” Also, titanium-dioxide, may start out in a mine but it is refined in a lab undergoing an “extraction and purification process” and this Romanowsksi believes is a healthy procedure because titanium-dioxide from the mine can be “contaminated with mercury and lead.”

One of the best reasons to wear mineral makeup is because it is”non-comedogenic” meaning it is oil free and will not clog pores because it allows the skin to breathe. Although, one should note, many foundations and products that are not mineral products are also non-comedogenic.

What mineral makeup lacks, is what makes it so perfect for your skin. It doesn’t have

Omorovicza Mineral Touch Concealer
Omorovicza Mineral Touch Concealer http://www.sephora.ca

“artificial colours, oils, perfumes, or preservatives to clog pores and irritate skin.” A unique combination of “zinc-oxide, iron, mica, iron-oxides, and titanium-dioxides” that have “anti-inflammatory properties,” are helpful for those with problematic skin.

Mineral makeup can help stop conditions such as “acne, eczema, rosacea,” or those with skin which is “sensitive to sun” because of procedures such as “chemical peels.””‘[M]ineral makeup,’ New York dermatologist Neal Schultz, MD says, ‘ . . .is less likely to cause a reaction [for] women with sensitive skin.'” Because mineral makeup “‘doesn’t contain oil, it won’t aggravate acne-prone skin.'”

Tarte Palette
Tarte Energy Noir Clay Palette http://www.sephora.ca

Today, mineral makeup cannot only be found as a loose powder foundation. You can find “blush, bronzer, eyeshadow, lipstick, liquid foundations,” and other makeup items “presented as mineral products.”

Oddly enough, since mineral makeup has become uber popular, many cosmetics companies have added back to their formulas “the ingredients they omitted when they first introduced mineral products. For instance, after reading the list of [twelve] ingredients in a so-called ‘mineral eye shadow’ from a drugstore” it was hard to tell the difference between the mineral eyeshadow and many other regular drugstore eyeshadows –noted Ni’Kita Wilson.

Wilson says, “it’s impossible for mineral makeup companies to create a liquid foundation with a pared-down ingredients list because microbes thrive in water.” This means many liquid mineral product “formulations . . .include some kind of preservative.” Wilson says, “[w]ithout [preservatives], in liquid foundations [etc.] contaminated products [could] lead to skin infections.”

So, if you have “sensitive skin,” you could see how a “loose mineral foundation” works

Viseart Eyeshadow Palette
Viseart Eyeshadow Palette http://www.sephora.ca

for you. Your best bet is to search “for products with the shortest ingredients list.” Even mineral products with a “longer list of ingredients,” mean that there’s a greater chance  “your skin [may] react to” an ingredient in the formulation of the product.

Mineral makeup can also be a good option with people who “don’t have sensitive skin” issues. But you probably want to keep your expectations low. One mineral product such as mineral foundation isn’t going to correct all your skincare problems such as “large pores” or “uneven pigmentation.” You will still need products such as a good primer, concealer, and a “skincare regimen.”

I wanted to provide you guys with a list of some good mineral makeup brands you can take a look at, keeping in mind some of the facts I found out about mineral makeup as I researched it. Many brands only have certain products that they classify as mineral makeup. You can take a look at some of these products from Sephora and then research into the brand to see if they carry other mineral products. Hopefully this list will get you started. You can also go into your local drugstore to see if any drugstore brand makeup carries mineral products. One brand I can think of is Physician’s Formula. Thanks for reading!

14. For how to do your hair like mine please see this tutorial by Kate from The Small Things Blog here and here. Her’s looks a bit nicer and has better pictures. I used a ProBaby bliss to curl my hair which is easier for me then a curling rod to use. It essentially sucks in a section of hair you have combed out. When it beeps you can let go of your hair for a softer curl or hold it longer for more bouncier curls.

The Gift of Beautiful Skin for Him or Her: Clinique

479-01 Clinique_LoadingGif_R22

Of all the things I have wanted in life, ever since about the end of grade 10, it has been to have perfect skin. I suffered from terrible acne in high school and  to a lesser degree at certain times in University. But as everyone’s skin does, my skin reacted a certain way with acne. I didn’t have acne covering my face, I had what you would call cystic acne in several spots that would often spread. Sometimes my skin would be terrible for awhile and then it would become clear and beautiful. My biggest problem was that I had oily skin that was dry in some places that would

CLinique 3 step
http://www.clinique.ca Clinique Three Step System

get acne that would go deep under the skin and it would hurt.

When I was younger I must admit I was bad because I picked at it because it hurt so much. Then I learned to let it be but sometimes it would get to the point that it looked horrible anyways because my skin was pale and would be red in the effected area. I came to the conclusion, that A.) My skin got worse the week before my period and B.) When the weather undergoes a drastic change such as from Summer into a cold Fall or from Winter into a warm Spring, my skin would react the worst.

When I was in grade 12 one of my best friends at the time,  told me about Clinique Three Step Skincare . I went to the Clinique counter and did a little test (as you can do on the website I posted above) to see what type of skin I had. Type I was very dry to dry skin; Type II was Dry or Combination Skin; Type III was Combination or Oily skin;  and Type IV was Oily skin. Since, I began using Clinique, they came up with a fifth type of skin products specifically for Acne Prone skin. As well, as a three step system for Men with Dry to Normal Skin, or Oily Skin. I started using Type II in high school to get use to the products (I had sensitive skin as well) and about a year later switched to Type III skin products which has been my skin type ever since. I did, however, do some product changes to specifically what products I used for my own three step Clinique line.

Clinique Facial Liquid Soap
http://www.clinique.ca Clinique Facial Soap

Step 1: Each type of Clinique skincare, first includes a Facial soap or Liquid Facial Soap. If you are looking to save money or you have acne on your back for instance, the facial soap is a good option for $17.00 to $18.00. But I always think that bacteria can get on the soap you are using (which comes with a soap tray) and the Liquid Facial Soap is a lot better because you need so little when you squirt it out and put it on your face. It’s fantastic because it makes your skin feel nice and smooth and gets rid of the dirt and oil on your face. It costs $21.00.

Eventually, because I learned that acne often spreads due to bacteria, I

Clinique Acne Solutions Cleansing Foam
http://www.clinique.ca Clinique Acne Solutions Foam

started using the Acne Cleansing Foam  for $24.00, it lasts me about two months. And if you have any kind of medium to bad acne I recommend this over the Facial Soap unless your skin is on the dryer side. I have not used anything but this Cleansing Foam for years, but then recently I started using a cleanser (Take the Day of Cleansing Milk for $33.00) or cleansing clothes from Shopper’s Drug Mart (Life Brand or Neutragena) to remove my makeup from my face first. That helped my skin routein because I wasn’t breaking out from left-over makeup

Clinique Clarifying Lotion 3
http://www.clinique.ca Clinique Clarifying Lotion 3

Step 2: The second step to the Clinique system is a toning or Clarifying Lotion that you use a cotton pad to rub on your face after using the Facial Soap. You can actually buy a super-big size of Clarifying Lotion at Sephora usually around Septemeber and it has a pump you can just place your cotton pad on and you can pump it a couple times so the Clarifying Lotion is absorbed by your cotton pad. Then, rub it all over your face and neck. You will be quite grossed out (especially at first) to see how dirty and grey the soaked cotton looks. Rub the cotton pad (or a second one if you need) all over your face to remove all dirt, oil, and makeup residue. If you have an area that is breaking out under your skin leave the cotton pad on it for a

Clinique Turn Around Serum
http://www.clinique.ca Clinique Turnaround Revitalizing Serm

few extra minutes so it can absorb down into your pores. The Clarifying Lotion usually comes in two sizes: 6.07 fl oz for $17.00 (great for travelling) or a 13.5 fl oz size for $28.00. Your best bet is to buy the bigger size whenever you can. There is also the Acne Line Clarifying Lotion for $19.00 if your skin is acne prone.

I am going to skip a step here for a moment which is using a Clinique Moisturizer. If you are younger than twenty-five you can get away with using only a moisturizer but if you are twenty-five or older you want to start looking into using a product that

Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector
http://www.clinique.ca Clinique Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector

aids your skin from aging — a serum is great for this. It seems like twenty-five is an early age to start using anti-aging or skin aiding products but the earlier you start the nicer your skin will be when your older. You can find many different serums on the market and the best ones have some Vitamin A and C and Retinol in them. I use one I keep finding at the beauty section in Winners but Clinique also has a bunch of different serums for your skin that you can use depending on which skin issue is your biggest concern. I recommend Turn Around Revitalizing Serum in 30 ml for $51.00 or 50 ml for $75.00. If you want your skin cell turnover to go faster and to have smooth revitalized skin this a great serum for you. If you are more worried about having an even skin tone whether that be from age spots or acne

Clinique Repair Wear Laser Focus
http://www.clinique.ca Clinique Repairwear Laser Focus

scarring you can try Even Better Clinical Dark Spot Corrector (it comes at a couple different price points such as the previous serum but they aren’t showing on the website right now). A third choice for a good Serum would be Repair Wear Laser Focus for Lifting and Firming skin. It comes at a couple different price points as well. If you use a serum remember to put on your serum before you put on your moisturizer and to let your serum sink into your skin first.

Step 3: Step three of the Clinique skincare system is the Clinique moisturizer. Clinique Dramatically Different Moisturizer is an award winning product in many magazines year after year. What is great about it

Clinque Moisture
http://www.clinique.ca Clinique Moisturizing Gel Skin Types III, IV

is if you have oily skin you can use the Moisturizing Gel (like I do) and you will find that the gel is not as heavy on your skin and that you may not break out as much because your moisturizer is lighter. Also for those of you who have dry skin you can purchase the Moisturizing Cream which is a fairly new addition to the Clinique skincare line. The Clinique moisturizer and the gel come in three sizes right now ranging from $11.00 to $47.00. The smallest size is great for travelling but if you want the best deal you should purchase the moisturizer in the largest pump size because it is the largest amount of moisturizer you will receive for your money. The moisturizing cream comes in two sizes for $18.00 for 30 ml

Clinique Moisturizing Cream
http://www.clinique.ca Dramatically Different Moisturizing Cream

and $32.00 for 50 ml, for Types I and II skin. The Acne line also has it’s own moisturizer if you have acne prone skin for $26.00. But I caution that you really have to have oily skin if you use this moisturizer. I tried a sample back when me skin was acting out and it dried my skin right out.

Since, acne can be an issue for adults as well as teenagers, it is awesome that Clinque provides the customer with many options on how to treat their type of skin and problems.

Clinique Acne All Over Clearing Gel
http://www.clinique.ca Clinque Acne Solutions All Over Clearing Treatment

I want to share a product from the acne line that I think, can be used by anybody who is dealing with acne some or all of the time. Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel is a spot product you just apply wherever you have acne. It has salicylic acid in it which is wonderful at shrinking and drying out acne. For 15 ml it is $21.00 and for 30 ml it is $31.00. If you buy the biggest size of this product it will last you a year and half or longer depending on how often you are using

Clinique Acne Clearing Gel
http://www.clinique.ca Clinique Acne Solutions Clinical Clearing Gel (Salicyclic Acid Acne Medication)

it. Everybody gets a pimple now and then and this is perfect to apply at night and under makeup. Also, if you struggle with acne or certain things such as wrinkles, pore size, facial redness,  and uneven skin tone (etc.), know that Clinique often has corresponding products in their skincare or foundations that aid you with your fight against these issues.

Also, I want to note because you are a man does not mean that you cannot use or do not need skincare products, especially if you are prone to acne or oily skin. A basic three step program is great for everyone whether they are male or female. But luckily if you are a man, Clinique carries a special line of products especially for you. For instance, it has two Three Step Skincare lines. Since men have thicker skin their skin can often be a lot oilier so

Clinique Men Oil Control Exfoliating Tonic
http://www.clinique.ca Clinique for Men: Oil Control Exfoliating Tonic

there is a specific Three Step System for Men with Oilier skin which includes: Oil Control Face Wash for $21.00Oil Control Exfoliating Tonic for $18.00, and Oil Control Matifying Moisturizer for $32.00. There is also a Three Step System for men with Normal to Dry skin. The prices aren’t different but you can look at the products here under Men’s Dryer to Normal Skin Type. There are several other great Clinique products for men such as Shaving Gel and and Scrub. Take a look at other Men’s Clinique Products here.

As a final note I wanted to let you know that

Clinique Oil Control Face Wash Men
http://www.clinique.ca Clinique for Men: Oil Control Face Wash

not only is Clinique available at http://www.clinique.ca or http://www.clinique.com. You can also purchase Clinique online or instore at Sephora (or http://www.sephora.com), SearsThe Bay, or at Shoppers Drug Mart and it’s online stores: Beauty Boutique or Murale. It is available practically everywhere, is priced reasonably, and works well. I’m not saying you’re never going to break out again, but there will be far less of a chance you will break out, that you will have generally healthier skin, and nicer feeling skin if you use Clinique skincare. Remember to watch for

Clinique Oil Control Matifying Moisturizer Men
http://www.clinique.ca Clinique for Men: Oil Control Matifying Moisturizer

Clinique bonus products for spending a certain amount of money on Clinique products at Sears and the Bay, or Holt Renfrew. Also, remember that at certain stores such as Shoppers Drug Mart, Murale, Beauty Boutique, and Sephora you can collect points towards getting money off a big purchase or purchasing beauty bonuses of many kinds.

Thanks for reading. Maybe you will find some lovely skincare products for some of the people in your life this Christmas.

Using Natural Products for Skincare

Prompt: Write a global issue connecting it to a personal issue

I can’t go to deep into this, but I see the amount of chemicals used in many drugstore products. Especially, I am thinking about all the makeup that has parabens, and sulfates (etc.) and other chemicals that many woman are washing with or putting on their skin. The makeup just sits there all day and I don’t think much of it is good for your skin and causes breakouts, dry skin, and later, things like cancer or skin damage (etc.)

I have good reason to be concerned about this because I love makeup but I have to be extremely careful what I put on my skin because I will break out from chemicals in makeup or develop rashes. This is why I have begun to really look into the makeup I purchase. Is it natural? Does it contain products I can actually read? I have invested in a lot of mineral makeup from makeup lines such as Benefit Makeup, Purminerals, Tarte, Mac Mineral, , Bobbi brown, and Clinique, Even though a couple make ups I use such as Clinique and Bobbi brown aren’t quite natural they are gentle on my skin and often have mineral powders and other products in their lines of makeup. For bath products a big one I love to use is lush. Everything is fresh and produced with products I can read.

I’m not sure it is possible for people, especially woman to use natural and mineral products all the time but there is enough products out there now that we can try to use at least some of those products in our routines.

Happy Thanksgiving One and All

www.librarything.com
http://www.librarything.com

It’s difficult to not write everyday now that the Writing 101 course is over. I had become use to being given an idea and then simply running with it for an hour or so each day. But now I am sitting in front of my laptop and it’s hard to come up with an idea to write about even though the point of the course for me in the beginning was to gain ideas for writing. But perhaps, that is my curse. I’ve been told that I’m very goal-oriented and great at completing my goals but not so great at making my goals in the first place.I think I will just need a brainstorming session where I can write down just any and every goal that comes to my mind. What about you how do you come up with ideas for blogs? Do you write from your own experiences, do you write fiction? I’d be interested to know.

But for now I will tell you about life lately and leave the brainstorming for later. Last week began by seeing my boyfriend finally, after his long trip to Morocco. I pretty much wouldn’t let him go once he came into my house and sat down on the couch. We talked a bit but I didn’t get to talk to him as much as I wanted until he took me out for dinner at Earls on Friday night. Everyone has there favorite meals at restaurants, the things they order over and over again. At Earls I have a few options I can choose from, my favorite being the Chicken-Apple Brie and Fig samwidge with a house salad. I always eat half and save the other half of this massive samwidge for lunch the next day. And I did the same thing on Friday but I was really craving chocolate after dinner and my boyfriend and I split (I had the most) a gelato and caramel nut sundae. It was divine, one scoop of vanilla, one scoop of chocolate, some candied pecans, and a little bowl of salty caramel sauce that I poured on the sundae frequently. I just love dessert sometimes and could just eat that. But I don’t order it too often because it’s usually too much to eat with a meal and drink as well as it’s fattening. Plus, A has decided he wants to keep of the 10 lbs he lost walking around Morocco and Europe, that way he will build muscle faster because he won’t have that fat in the way, not that he had any fat but that is just my opinion.

The rest of the weekend we spent preparing for a large Thanksgiving meal for Sunday.I cleaned my room well — vacuumed,

www.guylainounette.centerblog.net
http://www.guylainounette.centerblog.net

dusted, and wiped down everything — and frankly got too fatigued to do much more that day other than clean about half of my bathroom for Sunday ( I’ll have to clean the shower this week, at least no company goes in there so company cannot tell if it’s a bit dirty). On Sunday, I got ready and then helped my Mom cook the meal for the day. We had 13 people over for dinner, that’s a large party for my family. We had 4 of my Dad’s friends from China, both of my brothers, my one brother’s girlfriend, and my boyfriend A actually came over.

I was extremely impressed with A. He has been so frightened of my Dad he has staunchly refused to come over but he did come this time for a little while and ate supper with everybody, met my Dad, and brought my Mom flowers that she liked a lot. I hope I can get him to come again when my Dad doesn’t have so much company so that A can talk more to my Dad and become even more comfortable around my family. I think after 3-years it’s about time! But very proud of A all the same.

Back to dinner, my Mom and I cooked perogies, heated up cabbage rolls, cut up carrots and beans to be steamed, and my Mom baked a ham in the oven as well as a small turkey the night before. There was a chinese noodle salad and my brother’s girlfriend brought a pureed squash mixture. There was pumpkin pie and whipped cream for dessert, although dessert was very sweet.

After dinner and when everyone had left, I was quite tired and slept the rest of the afternoon, the next day, and most of yesterday. That’s called malaise — taking so long to recover after an occasion because you get to fatigued the day before or days before. Finally, today I feel as if I am normal again and maybe will catch up on some of my favorite TV shows online. Scandal (2 episodes) for one, Grey’s Anatomy, The Vampire Diaries, Once Upon a Time and if I have time, 2 new episodes of the Blacklist. But I’ve been slacking on the Blacklist so I might just leave that one until I can watch the entire season in the summer.

Also I signed up for Blogging 201 starting next week. I wanted to keep in the habit of writing everyday going and I also wanted to learn about some more complicated operations and ideas that can help a person blog. I didn’t take Blogging 101 but I know enough from figuring out WordPress that I think I’ll be okay. There is a Writing 201, long form writing, in December and so I will do that then. These courses were a very good idea just to keep me busy since I couldn’t do regular courses from a university lately. But Im quiet sure I will take a Lighting course in Winter to finish my Residential Design and receive my Certificate in May. Then I will be a Certified Interior decorator. But unfortunately, I don’t plan on using the designation or doing the job. I just want to finish the certificate. I’m still on disability after all.

So coming up in October/ November for sure a beauty haul from Sephora on Clinique (some of the regular products I use) and a couple of makeup products I am trying out from Benefit and Bobbi Brown. Can’t wait to write about those for you. As for the rest of my blogging ideas you’ll have to wait and see what I can come up with when I’m more awake.

Cheers!

Financial Concerns

canadian-moneyI never had much trouble with my finances until before I became ill back 5 1/2 years ago. Sometimes people who have mental illnesses do not make the best judgement calls where money is concerned. In fact, people with no mental illness at all make mistakes where money is concerned. But since I got into debt about a year ago and had to have my Dad co-sign a loan for me to pay off in 5 years I have tried extremely hard to be financially responsible but sometimes my love of shopping or tendency not to think how much money I have to spend, gets the better of me.

The worst aspect I have found about living on a really limited budget, as a person on disability from a job as a receptionist/admin assistant, is that there isn’t room for me to have an urge to buy something because some months, even affording what I need is impossible. For instance, I have to take good care of my skin because if I don’t I break out badly. And if  I don’t use the right products I break out from a reaction to those bad products. I use Clinique products and a Korres anti-aging serum but this month had to give up the serum because I couldn’t afford it. I’m surviving on beauty samples now and I hope they last until next payday so I can buy my particular Korres serum and not little samples of different creams/serums from Murale and Sephora.

The worst aspect about being in debt is knowing that the approximately 5 year loan I have to pay off, won’t be paid off until I am 32

www.stevewright.info
http://www.stevewright.info

years old and that the extra $400.00 I am paying  to the loan would help me greatly and make my budget less tight. I could save for stuff then, and go on a vacation or be able to have extra money to pay off other debts I need to pay off when it is a pricey month. It frustrates me when all I want to do is work like everyone else and make a better pay cheque but I am to sickly to even try to work for a few hours a week. I just can’t concentrate and pay attention now.

I live at home so that saves me $ because I couldn’t afford to live alone, and I have cheap rent. I only really have to pay my loan payment and my benefits from work. But sometimes when I do the dumbest things such as I think I can afford something but I can’t, and then I try to return the item and the store online is slow at returning my money so then I can’t pay my loan I feel such self loathing. Thank God my Dad co-signed my loan for me but I am trying so hard to keep a budget and not have my parents have to pay for any of my loan. Maybe I’m not the best person to be giving financial advice to people but there is a few things I have learned that I can tell those of you who are really tight on money:

1. Put a bit of money in a RRSP each month even if it is only $25.00 for your future.

2. Make sure you have enough $ to pay your bills first, don’t just assume there is money left in the bank to pay them.

3. Make a list of things you “actually” need each month and decide which of those items can wait and which of them you absolutely have to buy.

4. If you spend on credit card make sure you pay the amount off as soon as you spend that money and get home.

5. Look for Groupons, Teambuys, Dealfinds, etc. for salon needs such as haircuts, highlights, massages, (etc) and events you like to go to such as a Beer Festival or Yoga classes because you can save a lot of $ that way. Also, you meet a lot of interesting people going different places for less rather then just the same old expensive place. But make sure you place those coupon deals somewhere where you won’t forget about them.

6.  Pay more for classic pieces of clothing that can be worn for more than a year and can be mixed with other classic pieces and shop less often. If you can wait for these items to go on sale, do.

7.  Make sure you give a percentage of your income to charity because it is the right thing to do and it will help you on your income taxes.

8. Eat out only once a month at a nice place, and bring lunch to work or school. Learn how to cook well so you don’t have to keep ordering out — grocery shopping is cheaper and usually much better for you. Just don’t grocery shop when you’re hungry.

9. Find things to do that don’t cost a lot of money like walking your dog, getting a membership at a recreation center, or having friends over for some snacks and wine.

10. Always have a reserve fund. Just like the RRSP contribution it can be small but there needs to be at least something in that account for emergencies.

Benefit Watt’s Up Highlighter & BAD gal Mascara/ Urban Decay Naked 2 Palette Reviews

www.sephora.ca
http://www.sephora.ca

1. Benefit Watt’s Up – Soft Focus Highlighter for Face – ($36.00) – I purchased this highlighter after buying Benefits Girl Meets Pearl highlighter and not being that impressed with how much the highlighter appearred on my face. I found the liquid to be roughly the same color as my foundation so it didn’t end up being the best product for me although I still use it when I want a more subtle highlight. On the other hand, Watt’s Up is great and a fantastic highlighter! It comes in a cute purple container with a sponge tip at one end to spread the highlighter out when you apply it to your cheek bones, forehead, nose, cupid’s bow, and middle of your chin. On the other end of the highlighter is a cream to powder highlighter that makes the areas you put it on look shiny and glimmery. It is a fantastic wonderful highlighter and I am highly impressed by this product as I have used many highlighter products and not been that happy with many, especially on my lighter skin. It is perfect for sculpting the face in a soft “champagne glow” and because all Benefit makeup products are mineral makeup products Watt’s Up is good for your skin and won’t cause it to break out or clog pores. The only thing you have to be careful  about is that you don’t apply too much highlighter and that you blend well. While Girl Meets Pearl  is on one end of  the highlighter spectrum as being a very weak highlighter, Watt’s Up is at the other end of the spectrum as a very potent highlighter.

Benefit BAD gal Waterproof Mascara – ($26.00) – Benefit’s BAD gal Waterproof Mascara is a “smudge proof, a waterproof, and a

www. sephora.ca

tear proof” mascara. After trying Benefits They’re Real Mascara I was looking for a Mascara that was as voluminous as it was  but didn’t come off on my eye area, particularly under eye area, as much because my skin is oilier. I am not 100 percent sold on this Mascara either. It’s good but it doesn’t provide enough volume to your lashes. Although, it is waterproof and does not come off nearly as much as They’re Real Mascara it still tends to come off on my eye area and because it is waterproof it is difficult to get off your skin even if you dab it with a Q-tip fast. So this mascara is ‘so so’ but I am still liking my Clinique Lash Power Mascara Long Wearing Formula ($19.00) more because it comes off easier at night but not in the day compared to the  waterproof mascara and ,therefore, is easier on your eye lashes which can take up to 6 months to grow if you lose a few. I am still searching for that perfect mascara, I will have to try a different kind next time I need mascara.

Urban Decay Naked 2 Eye Shadow Palette – ($62.00) This palette features a dozen taupe and grey-beige neutral eye shadows. I love Urban Decay’s Naked Palette but after using most of the matte shadow in the eye shadow compact up I wanted to try the Naked 2 as it had more similar colors and some that were sparkly. I can do my usual Naked  eye shadow mixes on my eyes or I can jazz it up with whatever sparkly or different shading shade I want to use. I love it! The variety of colors available are great and it comes with a decent 2-ended eye shadow brush. My favorite neutral colors are  Bootycall, Verve, Pistol, Busted. and Half-Baked. I also continue to use what little color I have left in my Naked palette with the colors in Naked 2Although, it is a bit pricey it is well worth the price for these excellent pigment rich eye shadows that can be worn to work, school, or going out, depending on how you choose to do your eye makeup. For instance, Pistol, would make a great grey-tinged sparkly smokey eye. While Bootycall is the perfect pinkish color to put all over your eyelid in the day create a great subtle pink-nude shimmer.

Best Foundations For Sensitive and Oily Skin and the Worst!

Over the last 6 months I have tried many different foundations for my skin. Some foundations I have been happy with and other foundations I have hated. When I look for a foundation I am looking for one with good coverage so it makes blemishes and redness disappear. I am also looking for long-lasting coverage,  morning to-night coverage if possible. The third aspect I look for in a great foundation and perhaps the most important is that is does not cause any rash or cause me to break out more than I was breaking out before. I never had a foundation give me a rash until one of the foundation’s  I tried in the past 6 months gave me one. I was a bit shocked when that happened. Anyways, here are 5 foundations I tried for at least 2 weeks each. Three of them I was happy with and two of them I was not.

1. Lancome Teinte Idole Ultra 24 HR Foundation is my most favorite foundation because it gives you a flawless complexion. It is “shine” free and “retouch” free so it lasts all day and your face does not look greasy after wearing it for a while. The “stability of Eternal Soft Polymer” within the formula of the foundation “allows for 10 % of comfort agents within the formula” to increase the feelings of ease and “freshness” when the foundation is applied, says http://www.lancome.ca.

The foundation comes from 8 years of research at Lancome and can be found in 20 different shades. Since I am a pale woman I find it hard to find foundations that are light enough for my skin color but in Lancome Tenite Idole Ultra 24HR I am 100 Ivoire N and it is the perfect shade for my skin. I loved this foundation most of all because of how it felt on my skin, light and fresh, yet it covered extremely well, even into the evening. All I had to do was touch up with a bit of powder at night and I was good for going out. The only bad thing about this foundation is the price. Although, the foundation does last a while, 3 to 4 months, it is $50.00 and if you’re on a budget you just can’t afford that price all the time, so I have decided to save this foundation for use in the summer when I don’t want my makeup to melt off from the heat. Not to mention, the foundation is also SPF 15.

2. Clinique Perfectly Real Makeup – Clinque’s perfectly real makeup is great and is in fact, my makeup of choice now. It has

medium coverage and comes in 25 different shades and I use shade 1. It’s greatest asset is that it controls oil and it’s for Dry Combination and Combination Oily skin (Types 3 & 4 if you use Clinique skin care). It  has a nice texture that spreads out on to skin well and covers blemishes and redness. Although, I do find you need a better concealer with this makeup (try Lancome MAQUICOMPLET complete coverage concealer for $32.oo), I still love it because Clinique products are so gentle on your skin, are oil free, hypoallergenic, and will not irritate your skin in any way. I do wear powder foundation over it, just like I do the Lancome foundation, but what I really love about this foundation is that for the most part it stays put. It does not dry out your skin in the winter and it is only $26.00 US so around $28.00 Canadian. I highly recommend it for very sensitive skin and if this particular Clinique foundation is not for you there are plenty of other good one’s you can try for around the same price. My only complaint, is it is not the best makeup to wear in the summer because it tends to melt off mid-day. This is why I would choose the Lancome foundation in summertime.

3. Korres Pomegranete Foundation – Another makeup I bought and tried was Korres Pomegranate Foundation. I tried and put it to my sleepover bag because it is only available in 4 different shades. I chose PF1 the lightest and it is a bit too yellow for my skin tone which has more blue or pink undertones. It is great because it is SPF 15 and offers full coverage with an “elastic” formula which conceals imperfections and redness and offers a matte finish. It is ideal for combination and oily skin and is made with ” Pomegranate extract” which Korres claims “tightens and heals” skin (www.bathandunwind.com).

I very much enjoy wearing this makeup and like how matte it is and I love other Korres products because they are naturally made in Greece. The pomegranate products in particular are made for combination and oily skin types. The only thing wrong with product, is that the color is just not quite right for me, but it may work for you. I think it might look better on me in summer when I have a bit of a tan but I’m not sure. However, after a while the foundation does seem to blend and sink into your skin so the color does not look off, just remember to blend well. The price is also great at just under $30.00 Canadian for a tube.

4. Smashbox High Definition Healthy FX Foundation SPF 15 – This foundation was $44.00 and

comes in 7 shades and I am faire F1. While it seemed like a neat foundation to try because the pigment is so good in the Smashbox eyeshadow and pencilsI have, the foundation really was not that impressive, here’s why: this “revolutionary” formula is supposed to be packed with all these super ingredients such as Vitamin C, and “cell-energizing ribose” to “renew” the appearance of skin. It also has “time release moisturizer” and “firming” benefits that last all day but I don’t think it’s a long-lasting foundation. I found it wore off mid-day and like the Smashbox Primer does, made my skin really greasy. The color was bang on but the foundation just didn’t stand up to my skin and in fact, made me break out. The only saving grace about this foundation is that I had samples from Sephora to try so I didn’t actually have to buy the foundation. I’m lucky I did because it would have been a waste of $44.00 which is on the more expensive side for a foundation. This foundation clearly, was not made for sensitive or oily skin even though I was told it would be great for my skin from a Sephora representative.

5. MAC Pro Long Wear Foundation – This foundation was supposed to last for 15 hours on your skin, yeah right! Not only did it not last, the foundation was streaky and the lightest color was too orangey for my skin. I had never tried MAC foundation before except for their Mineral foundation and I was not happy with that one either but the mineral foundation at least was gentle on my skin. This foundation was not. I began to break out a great deal and my face always felt greasy despite claims that the foundation was supposed to do the opposite.

Worst of all, if you have sensitive skin, I don’t think MAC foundation is good for you. I got a peeling rash around my mouth from this foundation that immediately began to heal when I stopped using the foundation. Every time I tried to use the foundation again it would irritate that rash and make it worse again. I’m not sure what is in this foundation that made my skin react but well it wasn’t fun. I am a big fan of lots of other products that are MAC such as blush, eyeshadow, pencils, and lipsticks but I think I will stay away from their foundation from now on.

In case you are interested in trying it and your skin is not as sensitive, the color I used was N15 and and it cost $37.00 Canadian. So, it’s in the middle price range. This foundation I unfortunately bought but remember you can save all your makeup containers from MAC for an eye shadow or a lipstick once you collect 5 and return them to the store. I will wash out the foundation and save the container for that! It’s always good to recycle when you can.
