Peaunt Butter

His world had been comprised of hastily constructed philosophies, which upon close examination, had failed him and promptly collapsed. 

“Peanut butter,” he gasped moaning at the delicious taste of the product his mother had refused to feed him as a child. 

“How can you have not tasted Peanut butter, Charlie? You’re thirty-nine years old and have been living on your own for twenty years. Didn’t it ever occur to you buy it, just once, to see what it tasted like?”

Charlie looked at Dana his mouth a gap,”This is mind blowing. All my life I thought Peanut butter would kill me. My mother convinced me my throat would swell, that I would die on the floor gasping for air if I ate it. But I’m fine. I’ve been eating it all day and it hasn’t made me sick  or made me have trouble breathing. My mother was a liar!”

“She was just trying to protect you, Charlie. You did say she saw a kid die from being exposed to peanut butter when she was in school. It’s why they don’t allow it public schools. Your mom should have let you try a bit of Peanut butter first to see if your body reacted,” Dana remarked.

Charlie shook is head and sighed with pleasure. “I’m going to be eating Peanut butter for the rest of my days, for all those years I was robbed of it’s taste and smooth texture.”

Dana laughed,”Careful Charlie, there is a lot of calories in peanut butter. You don’t want to ruin your physique.”

“Who cares. I swear I’ll go to the gym if that happens.”

Poem: Found Poetry (Twitter) – “A Love of Food, Sweets, and Wine” #introtopoetry #foundpoetry #amwriting


What’s your favourite flavour, is it chocolate, vanilla, coffee, caramel? Or are you thinking of “America: a . . .country where half the money is spent buying food, and half is spent trying to lose weight, and half is spent on education.”

Do you watch what you eat? Count your calories? Some wise person told me by: “Eating your food slowly, [you] will help you[rself] lose weight, enjoy your food, reduce stress, and [have] better digestion.”

I love how great food smells and tastes. A bit of something superb is better than too much of something only okay. Yet, sometimes it seems “we spend all [our] money on food and clothes yet [we’re] still hungry and can’t find anything to wear.”

A funny thing, this guy I know, will last an entire day having only eaten a sandwich, without thinking of eating until late at night. His girl becomes grumpy because she hasn’t been fed; she gets headaches because her blood sugar is low.Yet “[w]hen [this guy] finds out all [his girl] needed was food to get rid of [her] attitude,” he is shocked and upset. Moron!

And it’s interesting to note, so much food seems to go to waste, or to feeding animals, as one person remarked: “We don’t have enough food to feed the world but we have enough food to feed 70 billion livestock,” but I’d like to note, often livestock end up as food too.

And the funnest experiences we have, come with great friends and good food. In another’s words: “I love my friends & I love my food ! Lol I like hanging out with my friends & also I like eating sandwiches haha :)”

No matter how we watch our waistlines, sometimes it’s a losing battle: “Dear food, you’re my sweetest downfall.”

Some weekends it’s wonderful to relax and stay at home, notes this guy: “I’m staying in my damn house this weekend. I’m stocking up on junk food and wine. Building a pillow fort.” 

I have to agree with this lady: “Because cupcakes beat all other desserts.”

A certain girl’s boyfriend really wanted dessert but couldn’t communicate this to his girlfriend properly, said the girlfriend: “5 mins later… he asked me again and keeps throwing options. CLEARLY, HES THE ONE CRAVING SWEETS. but he kept insisting we get desserts.” 

Perhaps he said this after: “Pretty sure i consumed over 3000 calories of desserts today and guess what i don’t regret it.”

Comparable to desserts, is of course,wine: “Also, dessert wines aren’t just wines suited for desserts, as its name suggests. You can use them for other dishes.”

Each month I try to give you guys a bit of an update on my life. It’s been a while since I have been able to sit down and think about things.

April was extremely busy, writing a poem a day for National Poetry Writing Month. As I wrote each day in accordance with the prompt provided on the website, I also tried to do various forms of poetry. This is continueous with the poetry journey I have been on this year, learning new types of poetry from Shadow Poetry.

 I found my first attempts at new kinds of poetry frustrating at times this month, because I was having to write poems using a prompt, and write on weekends too. I think I wrote the best poetry going back to types of poetry I had used before and had had the chance to refine over the months in 2015 and 2016. 

As much as I love April’s NaPoWriMo, I’m glad it is done and I can focus on some other aspects of writing. I was scraping the bottom, the last few poems I wrote for the challenge. Kudos to those of you who both did NaPoWriMo and the A to Z challenge. 

I think my biggest concern lately has been with weight put on from medications in the past, which I haven’t been able to lose. I had a good idea I would gain another ten pounds off last July’s medication switch. I don’t regret doing the changes in hospital, but I would really love it if I could even get my body weight down twenty-pounds.

A good friend of mine from university L, started on this new supplement program. It’s not only about losing weight but getting proper vitamins, having more energy, and feeling healthier all around. I’m careful where supplements are concerned because sometimes they react with medication. However, I brought an ingredients list to my pharmacist and he said it was fine. You would hope so, as all the ingredients are naturally sourced. 

Initially, I lost 5 lbs and 8.5 inches on what they call an 8 day detox. I was happy with this result, but once I started back on their day 9 to 30 diet, I gained back the weight. Now I find, I have also gained back inches and put on a couple pounds on the weightloss meal plan. I’m frustrated because I actually know many people including my friend, who over months kept losing weight on the weightloss plan and on these supplements.

My friend said try increasing your protein and I tried it last week but as I feared, the protein increase made me put on a couple pounds and inches. So, I went back to smaller amounts of protein except for the last meal of the day, so I remain full at night. I have issues with finding myself ravenously hungry at night. Right around 11:00 pm to 1:00 pm, my stomach thinks it needs food now. I guess, I will have to convince it otherwise. 

The weight issue is extremely discouraging when I’m doing the same plan as my good friend, but can’t lose the weight. I got into a bad habit after a month and half of trying to lose more weight. I began eating some delicious calorie loaded food because I was not losing weight anyways. But stepping on the scale a moment, changed my mind about continuing this trend.

On a good note, I have found a supplement I take called xyng, to be an extremely excellent product. It actually increases my energy. I take one pill in the morning and one in the afternoon. It is supposed to help with a person’s metabolism and appetite, but I haven’t noticed those effects. But I do notice I have much less energy without the xyng so I plan to keep taking it with a couple of other supplements from the product line I liked for the health benefits. I’m planning on carefully sticking to the meal plan for the next while, to see if it goes better. It may or may not.

Between poetry writing, I have been going full-out trying to finish the first draft of How Was Last Night For You. I’m a chapter or two away from finishing the novel in first draft. Last week I became stuck at a pivotal point in one of the main character’s story. I’m going to think about it a bit before continuing on. The ending needs to be strong as well as set me up for book two in the series. Yes, there will be a second novel, I have been considering it for some time and once this one is mostly complete, I will begin planning book two. 

I have been researching and saving articles on publishing books and a generous blogger even provided me with information for a couple of fantastic editors. Right now I have a fellow writer looking my work over, it’s a huge job. When he said editing it  ‘line by line’ he meant it. I am hoping I’m able to provide him with the same quality of feedback with his writing projects. Having that feedback has helped me a great deal in regards to writing short pieces of flash fiction, especially with meaningful dialogue.

I’m also participating in a challenge called #Maydays and the generous host K.L. Caley, provides a prompt each day. Thus far, I have chosen to write fiction, heavy on the dialogue as I am attempting to ‘show‘ verses ‘tell‘ in my writing and working on developing better dialogue. I’d be interested to hear what other writers think about these terms. Do you agree there should be more ‘showing‘ than ‘telling‘ in a work of fiction? 

Another aspect of my blog I would like to work on is having a couple of guest bloggers a month. I’m interested in people as a writers and I have some interview questions I can email to that effect. Why you write, how you started etc. If you would like to be a guest blogger/writer please comment on this post or go to the top of my blog page, to the contact me page.

As for the rest of life, I’m back to reading a lot again. I’ve forgotten how reading a great book can go quickly and find myself moving through different genres of books with speed. It’s not that I’m not absorbing the books information; I’ve always been a fast reader, when I’m feeling well and can concentrate. I will update you guys on some of the books I like sometimr in May. As well. I will have new beauty posts and some other posts unrelated to writing in the coming months. I’ve been unable to do these kinds of posts  lately, due to having to keep up with my novel writing.

I spent a wonderful night out attempting to paint a picture and drinking wine with some friends at a small wine place downtown. It was a lot of fun despite not being able to make my painting look like the one the instructor had painted. I’ve never been an ‘exact’ painter, I go with the flow. 

Also, I saw the third movie in the Divergent Series of movies called Allegiant. I’m not entirely sure if this is part 1 or if there is a part 2? I thought they were breaking the third book Allegiant, into two parts for the movie but perhaps I’m wrong? If you know let me know 🙂 

I’m looking forward to Alice Through the Looking Glass, this summer in theatres, the new Captain America and Iron Man film, a new addition to The Pirates of the Caribbean movies with Orlando Bloom in it and the newest Harry Potter-like movie coming out in Fall, set in the 1920’s. 

As for TV, I’m anticipating a twisty finale for Scandal and hopefully, something big on Grey’s Anatomy since last season was not an exciting ending, more of a tying up of loose ends with McDreamy’s death a few episodes before the Finale. Also, I’m looking forward to watching Season 5 of Downton Abbey and Season 2 of The Fall on Netflix. 

As for other things, enjoying walking in the river valley in the warm spring weather. It’s not so hard now without a dog, I’ve grown used to it. Also, doing yoga as always. I think if you have trouble with exercise or are starting trying to be fitter, yoga or Pilates is excellent in keeping your body toned and flexible. Just start at an easy beginner level and repeat it until you can do the exercise pattern for longer or the moves become too easy. Then move up from there. If it is never easier add another beginner routine in for variety and remember even doing a small amount of exercise, you are lapping everyone on the couch!

Additiinally, a quick congrats to one of my besties Tara for becoming engaged in Hawaii last week. Also, since I probably didn’t mention her, congrats to one of my other besties Shannon for her engagement earlier this year! So excited for you both!

Writing 101: Day 11 – Coffee Shop Talk

I don`t drink coffee; there is a harsh and bitter flavour to coffee and I don`t think I should be wasting any calories on a drink I don’t enjoy. I like tea. I will buy some speciality tea in a store and drink it for awhile but then I just become tired of it. When I go to a beauty salon, I ask for green tea. I attempt to get that part right, drink green tea because it improves your metabolism.

Once in awhile, I will have skim hot chocolate, but it`s to easy to keep drinking those so I don`t do it often. I have the green tea or I have an unsweetened cold passion fruit tea from Starbucks. It`s as if you were drinking hot tea, except that it is extremely flavourful and cold. Now that you know about what I`d like to drink (don`t worry I`ll get your`s too – chia latte you say), I could tell you a bit about what`s been going on in my life.

My main project has been this Proposal for Residential Furnishings. I have been taking this course all Fall from home to complete my Residential Interior`s Certificate that I began back in 2009. It will be good to be finished the certificate. But I emailed in the paper after fixing the ‘Works Cited’ page. There are all these little details to writing papers and proposals. The biggest challenge is often writing it in the correct format such as MLA or APA. I have been doing my work in Chicago style for awhile now. Blogging and doing articles is more suited to that. So, is free writing. It allows you to do footnotes and endnotes which I think is better then MLA where you include two () at the end of the sentence with the name of the author of the book or article and the number of the page you got the information from. I`m pretty gifted with MLA style because I used it in university and in many courses since. But times have changed, even writing formats, so there are new details to add to the MLA style. But they do have interesting citing tools that will put together bibliographies or a works cited page for you: easybib.com is a helpful site for that. But you will find, you may have to still add certain details once you copy and paste a citation. 

But my topic for my proposal is interesting. The exhibit is called: Vanity: Around the Dressing Table. To summarize, our wealthy ancestors wanted to look good, appear powerful, and  fashionable to their peers and those below them in the class system. So, they invented things for the vanity and used little scissors, combs, and perfume vials. Mirrors were very important and their are a lot of superstitions surrounding mirrors, more than seven years bad luck if you break one. Then dressing tables and shaving tables were developed and things such as dressing in a certain way, even in the middle class. The point is, `vanity`is just not about a dressing table but a disposition or attitude that effected people in the past and effects us in the present age. Think about lady’s magazines who popularize a certain look for women or a certain self-image in their pages. Also, our technology makes us vain when we use it to make an image of ourselves on social media or to take a`selfie.`We are a society immersed in vanity. So, maybe I`ll post the paper. I haven`t decided. It`s long and might be boring for people who don`t want to read a lot or are not interested in the history of vanity through historical items I have chosen for this pretend exhibit. But I made up a poster and everything for it. I`m happy with the project and glad it’s done. 

Also, I have been blogging like crazy. Writing 101 adds a lot more to write stuff about during the week. I enjoy it but sometimes I have a story in my head and I need to sleep and then I spend until midnight writing and I don`t even realize it. Creativity can be a difficult master. 

If you read my story `Dentures`you know about my acidic and grinded down teeth. I have been wearing my mouth guard and taking things seriously. I have slept two nights and it has staid in my mouth. But I must grind my teeth a great deal because I awake with a headache and my teeth hurt. Hopefully, it`s not too late to extend the life of my teeth for sixty years. I’m told by my mother I should start saving for implants now. The whole idea seems horrifying. I had one cavity ever and I hated getting it filled. Now, think about having all your teeth pulled out to put in donated teeth or to not have teeth in your mouth at all — just dentures in the day. That pricks at my vanity. 

I have been trying to stay caught up on my favourite TV programs after they have aired and are online. But the internet around my house sucks because everyone is sharing this line for SHAW cable. So, I am watching `Grey`s Anatomy`and the program pauses every few minutes. After `Grey`s`and `How to Get Away with Murder,’ l had enough of the pauses so I went to do something else. But maybe I’ll watch a couple programs tonight. 

That reminds me, I have to do my laundry before my Dad comes home and it`s almost 4:30 pm. I am having lunch with a dear friend tomorrow and going to get my nails done on Thursday. Meanwhile, once I get notes again, I will be studying for my final in my class December 1. I also plan to start Christmas shopping if there are some good Black Friday deals. I have a few things I want to get for myself as well.

As for my dating life: It’s nice to be wanted by guys and I have a few who keep bothering me to do stuff with them. The thing is I only have energy to do so much and don`t have energy for relationships or dating right now. I`m flattered, but I`m not interested at the moment. Even when I try, it just never works out. So, that`s on the backburner for now. Maybe in December I will go on a date or two. Or maybe, not. I guess I forget that nothing great ever came from comfort zones. A quote to remember!
