#OctPoWriMo 27/Music Challenge:  “I Swear I Lived” #amwriting #poetry #musicchallenge

OctPoWriMo 27 has a theme based on our favorite flowers. Somehow I’m going to combine this prompt with MindLoveMisery’s Menagerie Music Challenge song on “I lived by OneRepublic.

“I lived” – OneRepublic

——

With every broken breath,

I swear I lived.

Pettles in my hands, soft, floating in the wind.

Never forget to slow down,

Tred through daisies.

As our dogs on their walks,

Burying our nose in the fragrance.

Inhaling life with resilience,

Clutching each moment,

As if it’s the last.

Not afraid to touch —

The sun and run,

Using each spare second.

Fearless with triumph,

A will to survive

Ignore the broken bones,

They’ll heal, don’t build walls,

Despite stumbling hard.

Get back up,

Carry on soldier.

Give it all you have, unafraid to jump,

Raising your cup as the sun goes down,

Toasting the journey.

And with —

Choppy breath rasping,

Gaspimg for air,

Own every broken breath,

For every tranquil —

Glittering moment in life,

Keep pushing to survive.

Bring meaning into moments,

Where you’re  —

Fighting to live,

When you realize that life,

Is the blessing you always desired.

#FinishOffFridays Flash Fiction: Shadows Are Beings Too #amwriting #flashfiction

Great green leafy trees are reflected on the lagoons glimmering surface. High above the actual trees dance in the breeze, drooping, almost as if to kiss the water with their branches. On the shore are large rocks which I take and skip across the lagoon. The mermaids will love me for this.

I continue to skip rocks until a few lovely mermaids pop their heads out of the forest lagoon and give me dirty looks. They hope it’s Peter, but when they see it’s only Peter’s shadow, they roll their eyes diving back under the water beneath the lillypads and floating flowers.

No one anywhere thinks much of a shadow and they don’t realize shadows are beings too. So the mischief in me has unsewn myself from Peter Pan. He’s been chasing me all day but I’m quicker and smarter than he. It’s why I decided he should take a trip home to a little girl I fancy; she is called Wendy.

NaPoWriMo: Poem – French Translation – ” La Vie”

And now our prompt (still optional!) Because we’ve spent our month looking at poets in English translation, today I’d like you to try your hand at a translation of your own. If you know a foreign language, you could take a crack at translating a poem by a poet writing in that language. If you don’t know a foreign language, or are up for a different kind of challenge, you could try a homophonic translation. Simply find a poem (or other text) in a language you don’t know, and then “translate” it based on the look or sound of the words. Stuck for a poem to translate? Why not try this one by Nobel Laureate Wislawa Szymborska? Or here’s one by another Laureate, Tomas Transtromer. Happy writing!

Please see NaPoWriMo for more information. This is the final day. Thank you all who have followed my poems in this month long journey. Also, I apologize for my awful French language skills.

When life is a song,

Each day is a harmony.

—–

When life is a dance,

Each day is a ballet.

—–

When life is a sky,

Each day is a breeze.

——

When life is a flower,

Each day is a butterfly.

——-

When life is a torrent (fast moving water),

Each day the mountains rise.

(Phew! Glad I picked an easy one!)

3Line Tales – The Luxury of Colour

1.Flags fluttering multicolour and multicultural in the breeze; there is a feeling of hope in the air for refugees coming to this country to escape terrorism and a terrible life in their home countries; so many have come seeking a new life and to escape the horror that was life back where they were from; many people wonder at the luxuries afforded in the western world, even the multicoloured flags seem extravagent, yet strangely exciting.

2. Jas looks at all the colourful bright flags with ecstatic joy; wearing bright colours where he lives means you are more likely to get shot; Jas feels the warm fleece of his red sweatshirt and grins, he loves the colour red, the colour of hope, life, and love; Jas loves all the colours of the flags, he wants clothing in every colour because in this country he is free — no one will kill him for his love of freedom and vibrancy.

3. A woman with a hijab stares up at the flags, all in primary and secondary colours. Where she is from the women wear black, the coloured flags are bright for her eyes but she is quickly growing used to their beautiful rainbow look as they flap like clothing on a clothes line; the woman fingers her hijab wondering if Allah would be upset if she wore a hijab in a jewel blue, or lapis luzia blue; she doesn’t say her thought aloud but the amount  of colour in this new country is making her dream and hope, if only for the luxury to wear blue.
