———

How to save a life? Say the right words,

Offer hope, say there’s more to live for, words —

Of compassion, tomorrow’s one more —

Day and within a day, world rewards.

Those who could barely escape their despair,

Providing hope, strength — live another day.

If I’d known then, how to save a life.

If you stepped back and gazed beyond,

You would know, wonderful times are yonder.

Take a moment breathe, be optimistic,

Don’t let despair rule you, you’re not ‘with it,’

The clouds will lift, you’ll see and start to think.

Your mind’s patterned to survive, not sink.

You’ll see today, that your thoughts deluded,

Don’t see that you’re needed, included.

If I’d known then, how to save a life.

I miss her, can’t ignore it, can’t undo,

It’s why I sit here talking with you.

There are times I wanted to help — couldn’t,

I don’t know if the right words stop your doubt?

But you should know I’m here until —

You decide to ask for help, fight to live.

If I’d known then, how to save a life.

Drowning in puddles,

Forgetting undertow,
Choking up waves,

Coughing salty water.

Betrayed by thirst,

Middle of nowhere.

Threatening typhoons,

Weeping salt,

Soul forgotten.

The nightmare’s,

Encompassing, drowning,

Until you awake.

Orange crushed tangerine bleeds;

Vivid dreams cracked.

Dawn rescuing,

Stranded heart beats.

Birds on power lines,

It’s glorious morning,

Just breathe.

I writhe, I wreathe for I’m neatly twisted,

You’ll never unravel me, my heart unknown.

You hold the tether on my talons tight fisted

I’m tenacious, a survivor bold,

You can tie me in knots, try to keep me near;

I’ll escape, live without your blackness owned.

I don’t quit; you shouldn’t trap me for fear,

I’ll catch you first, she-wolf who swiftly bites.

Your callous ropes hurt, but I’ll disappear

Love doesn’t choke, it’s not uninviting

Love is a freedom, not a smoke screen

But you’re in my den, I’m growling my spite

My name isn’t “Sweetheart,” don’t demean me;

Power struggle invoked, within your ropes —

I’ve held dear, but know I’m incharge here.

Droplets of blood, I swear I won’t be broke

Such a darkness in you raptured by my light.

Goodness will win; she-wolves don’t quit, they’ve hope.

My love, no more traps, let my heart be free

Your wolf, let her breathe, she’ll return to thee

I writhe, I wreathe, for I’m neatly twisted.

You hold the tether on my talons, tight fisted.

My teary eyes on the buildings below,

Keeping careful watch o’r those homeless souls.

And since the sky is filled with fire and with smoke.

Praying, keep careful watch o’r forlorn folk.

If we die in fire, keep us together,

Flames swirling higher, stairs filled with smoke, soon –

Rising farther into the night sky bright,

Watch flames burn stronger, apartment alight.

I see fire, fire in our whole home; Such fire

I can’t even breathe; I see fire, can’t respire.

There’s fire hollows my soul, blood curdling free,

All smoke, no breeze, hope they’ll remember me.

And if we should die tonight, we’ll both burn,

Raise glasses of wine, ’till we don’t feel spurned.

Calling Lord Father, prepare us as thee will,

Watch the flames burn our home, neighbours heard scream.

Confined in building blocks, enclosed, we’re remains

No fireman came, desolation it stays

Based off the lyrics by Ed Sheeran’s song “Fire” from The Hobbit movies. I played with the lyrics for this prompt.

#OctPoWriMo – Day 14 – Villanelle – “Fighting to Heal” #amwriting #poetry

Prompt Day 14: Shameful

What does the word “shameful” bring to mind for you? I found two quotes from nineteenth century French writer Victor Hugo that seem to capture my own thoughts on this word. Take a few minutes to free write and see where this leads you. Is it something you’ve done? Something that was done to you? Something you’ve observed on either a small, personal scale or large corporate or government level?”

No one said, life is as believed,

We pass each day, avoiding pain;

Forgetting, shamefully deceived.

Our worlds turn amiss, we bleed;

Yet, from difficulties too we gain.

Consider them in life as reprieves

Intense pain, blood leaks and we grieve,

Toxins cleansed, blood let, not in vain;

Wounds left, shamefully unseemly

Suffer, yet many a worse life conceive;

World that’s mean, feeds on human pain.

Yet, we shine our hope, despite grief;

Though our scars are deep, we still breathe.

There’s strength fighting, not leaving,

A man near death, not left to bleed.

Sacrifice and freedom conceived.

Sadness trickles past, cleansing rain;

Bathed in water, hope found, relief,

Strength, warm light glows, hope healing.

She’s a porpoise in water swim,

Life for her, no playful passing whim.

In gossamer gown, butterfly —

Letting out her breath, with sad sigh.

Out of cocoon perhaps she’ll break?

If breathing didn’t count for her sake.

An angel dipping her wings in the dim.

A lonely child, she floats, won’t swim.

——

Don’t give up your life in a breath,

Child with wings now so brightly set.

You’re no worm to be ashamed,

No worthless being created, blamed.

Diamond glimmers in God’s eye,

He sees in you no flaw, child abide.

You’re precious treasure life or death,

He handles all — porpoise deep breath.

——-

Dive in ocean, swim quick mammal,

Don’t be still — inhale air, expand —

Your lungs to breathe, realize —

Reasons, break cacoon and fly.

Leave world behind, most treasured,

You’re worth much more for measure.

Costly jewel cherished in God’s hand,

Angel breathe; let grief form tears on land.

Music Friday Prompt: Poetry – Free Verse – “Silence Is A Sound.”

Thanks for the music post from Mind Loves Misery’s Menagerie. The prompt song is “Sound of Silence” by Simon and Garnfunkel. Most recently, it is noted, the band Disturbed, did a wicked version of this classic.

Also thanks to The Daily Post for the prompt words MuseProfound, and Elusive.

Hello darkness you’re my muse;

A have profound “visions” in my mind,

They’re haunting me again.

Such elusive beings, wisps of vapour transforming;

I’m not sure anyone will understand,

But I strum my guitar and I hum the tune,

A melody to haunt profoundly through the decades.

Darkness, friend or foe?

Who would know silence has a sound?

What is the sound of silence, no one ever knows?

If darkness is the place I most hide,

Where the “seeds” of this “vision” keep;

Than why do I wander “streets“with “lamps . . . stabbing,”

My eyes in the cold empty street?

How does that light touch the silence elusive

Silent isn’t a concrete thing.

It’s not physical, so how do lights hurt silence?

How do you not notice all those “people“(thousands),

And hear their voices while they stay silent?

How do you know what they are “hearing?”

Only they know if they’re “listening;”

And the “songs“they sing in silence –silence would mean,

You couldn’t hear anything sung,

Or know the “song“they theoretically, could sing.

And if no one dares “speak,” somehow I think,

The silence still eludes them.

And if you say silence is a “cancer grow[ing];”

I’ll tell you what peace I find in it,

When “fools” they do not “speak;”

But you ring your voice, it echoes,

And you know, no one with silence is disturbed,

So your voiceless voice like “raindrops falling,”

 Is silence never heard.

Can silence be heard or unheard?

A paradox, perhaps?

Are you sheep to the slaughter to this “neon god;

And what “neon sign flashed” in “warning?”

If the “sign“was a god what did it warn,

That you were all sheep being led astray?

And who is this “prophet?”

They’re so many to speak, Elijah or Danial?

The Islamic Mohammed?

And “tenement halls” which from came “whispers,”

They’re overcrowded apartment buildings.

Apartments with small rooms, where people —

Are stuffed, having no personal space.

Even here, is there no silence which has sound?

Wouldn’t it be a dirty place, no room to move,

To breathe, to live, — to find peace?

Yet the words of said “prophet” are,

On the “subway” walls.

Means I think, the writings on the wall

Or referring to people stuffed into trains,

 And metros as cattle too?

I think in the thunderous silence,

Everyone is missing what’s coming;

And no one knows the truth or breaks the silence.

Yet a few “whispers” I detect,

 Elusive for their sound;

And silence rings and breaks sound barriers,

A sound which is never heard.

But you dear listener, hear the sound profoundly clear;

And wonder yet, how silence is a sound?

There are,

Places we find,

The world scars our being.

Sanctuary is needed,

What’s yours?

——

In our,

Minds overwhelmed,

By everything we need–

To do, but relief comes with breathing,

In, out.

——–

Perhaps,

It’s a place with,

Grassy knolls and sun beams bright,

Where yoga mats lay, and you pose and,

Stretch-out.

—–

Release,

Everything pent —

Up inside your heart box,

From the years, shoving secrets deep,

Relax.

—–

Tell who,

You must and let,

Your friend know, these hard times,

You’re letting them all go, melting,

Away.

—–

Perhaps,

It’s a place with,

A lake and fishing poles,

And a serenity found in quiet,

Have peace.

——

Maybe,

You read books and,

Spend the whole day absorbed,

Letting time pass, body revives,

Mind rests.

——-

Maybe,

You run because,

Endorphins flow and you —

Feel alive on pavement jogging.

Freeing.

——-

Perhaps,

You spend the day,

With an old friend, or your spouse.

Maybe you pretend you are both young.

Dreaming.

——-

Or you,

Could travel far,

See art, culture breathe new —

Experiences and let wanderlust,

Take you.

——-

Wherever,

You go, you need

Find your kalinai,

Serenity, deep in your soul.

Peace be.
