Leisbeth crooned to her pet dragon, Brand. She had raised him from when he was nothing but a babe, pushing his way out of his golden egg.

Brand would never be a huge dragon, but he was worth a lot of money to many people.  His scales, his wings, and his teeth were valuable so Leisbeth protected him. She cared for his wounds from hunting for large animals and after locals injured him.

Despite being gentle, Leisbeth could be fierce. She knew she was fragile, but she possessed a gift, sorcery not even Brand knew she possessed.

In turn, Brand was Leisbeth’s protector. He knew she was a soft woman, her voice small and melodic. Her hands uncalloused and her long blond hair shiny and flowing. All these traits of beauty put her in danger.

She knew nothing of the cruel world, that men spilled blood, both dragon and human for small amounts of silver. Brand still remembered the screams of his dragon parents slaughtered, as he fought his way from his golden egg. He was tiny then, but he remembered their terrified roars.

However, Liesbeth had saved him so they would always be together. Brand would protect her inherit gentleness while she would guard him with her magic. Those who would hurt her intelligent companion would regret it.

To Leisbeth, Brand was her friend who in private, loved to be held and stroked. Both their abilities would keep the other alive for thousands of years.

Day 2 – NaPoWriMo/A to Z Challenge: Poem – Tankas – “Recipes and Baking” #amwriting #poetry #NaPoWriMo #AtoZchallenge

Today’s NaPoWriMo prompt is a poem inspired by, or in the form of, a recipe! It can be a recipe for something real, like your grandmother’s lemon chiffon cake, or for something imaginary, like a love potion or a spell. The quote was is by Bob Spitz for B about Julia Child’sand her  cooking for the A to Z Challenge.

“The cooking was invigorating, joyous. For Julia, the cooking fulfilled the promises that Le Cordon Bleu had made but never kept. Where Le Cordon Bleu always remained rooted in the dogma of French cuisine, Julia strove to infuse its rigors with new possibilities and pleasures. It must have felt liberating for her to deconstruct Carême and Escoffier, respecting the traditions and technique while correcting the oversight. “To her,” as a noted food writer indicated, “French culinary tradition was a frontier, not a religion.” If a legendary recipe could be improved upon, then let the gods beware.”

― Bob Spitz, Dearie: The Remarkable Life of Julia Child

Recipes we shared,

How to make it through the day;

Standing up for those–

Requiring a healing—

Touch: letting yourself let go.

——–

Is there a recipe,

A formulation for life?

Mixing ingredients,

Brown sugar, eggs, vanilla.

Soda or powder to rise.

——–

Bakings a pastime,

In the kitchen with great-grandma,

Then with my grandma.

Later baking confections,

With my Mom and her methods.

One starts to know what,

Each person loves best,

Correctly; knowing —

Small portions grow bigger; the —

Scent of cinnamon inhaled.

On some occasions,

A person needs to bake sweet cookies.

Decadent brownies,

During the holidays with,

Rich chocolate icing too.

——–

Baking has taught me,

Life’s no slice of mouth-watering

Chocolate cake, but there —

Are times when a recipe,

Is what gets you through.

—–

Endorphins, sugar,

A wretched day can be healed.

There’s a tomorrow,

Chocolate means it’s looking up,

One more day you can get through.

Writing 101 : Day 6 – Redemption

Prompt: Let Social Media Inspire you.

Read my Tweet Here (or in the lines below).

She wears all black,

Just Like her soul,

Yet Her Heart is made of Gold.

D.M.

Does what you wear reflect your soul? Are you the jeans you wear, the hair spray you use? Are you that special pair of black underwear? The polka-dotted tights? Are you snoopy boxers? Or white Calvin Kleins? Are you your stripped power suit? A silver tie with little checks? Are you a svelte tight black dress? A teal wool coat with a swirled collar? Mismatching socks? Or a wife-beater undershirt? Are you a pink Victoria Secret bra with double padding? Are you light-blue silk dress shirt from Armani? Are you Agent Provocateur stockings with garters? Are you Ralph Polo Blue? Or Chanal Chance? Are you a baby pink sweater size 3 months? Are you a baby blue Gap sweat-shirt size 18 months? Are you a woman’s size 8? Size 16? Size Large? Small? Are you 6″5 and need pants with a 36″ inseem? Are you a size 30″ inseem? Are you xxxs? Are you size XXL with a 32″ waist? Is your hair blond? Are you a true blond? Are you a fake blond? Are you both? Do you shave your head? Why do wear such a long beard? Why do your wear a moustache? Do you have grey hair? Is it real or fake? Do you have a cat or a dog? Do you cringe in a movie when the dog almost gets hit then shrug it off when a man dies, just some screen filler?

My point is this: she may have worn black like her soul, but what you wear or any descriptive aspect about you is a terrible comparison for a soul. Though it be black, and dark, and dank, and poisoned; a soul is the essence of a human being. And if you’d like to say it didn’t matter because her heart was gold. Many men have been led astray by gold. Perhaps, she just had the Midas touch from a golden heart. Or maybe her heart was turned to gold by someone or something that had the golden touch; And even if you are as good as gold, you know what they say: the road to hell is paved with good intentions. So, her heart was not much good being gold, when a black soul like shale came apart layer by layer; and chipping down past the smoke and filthy intentions, we found a tiny chip that made her worth saving; because she was a person who loved and was loved; so deeply, she found redemption.
