Happy Monday, again! I hope you’re enjoying spring wherever you are in the world, although, that might mean fall or Autumn in some places of the world!
I came across a cool beauty subscription on Instagram called Deck of Scarlet . You can sign up on the website, if you think it’s something you would love and use. The price of signing up for the subscription is worth it. Most makeup palettes of this quality are so much more money.
Deck of Scarlet’s makeup quality is amazing, vegan, cruelty free, and all those wonderful things that mean the makeup is organic, natural, and better for your skin. I love that this subscription is a palette and not separate beauty products alone.
When you can find makeup that also has excellent pigment and provides you an entire makeup look, or series of looks, in one palette of eyeshadow, blush, highlighter, lip color, and eyeliner and lip liner, as part of the package — this is a smart conceptan excellent makeup subscription service.
Not only do subscribers receive a new ‘look’ or possibilities of looks, to play withevery two-months, but they have the choice to skip a month, if they don’t like the palette. If you don’t like it, you skip and don’t pay anything.
The only downside for some people, is remembering to click into the email or visit the site and skip a palette, if you wish. But actually, June’s palette is pretty awesome too. This makeup palette’s from April and contains “exotic . . . Bora Bora hues.”
The other neat thing about this subscription is the makeup tutorials provided by the bloggers who joined up to create these high-quality and on-trend looks for subscribers bi-monthly. The tutorials are what hooked me, I couldn’t get the same look with what I had at home.
The quality of The Deck of Scarlett Palette’s is what will keep me purchasing makeup palette’s every two months, should most of the palette colors be ones that I can use; and should the tutorials remain relevant to me.
Also, if your vacationing somewhere, this is the perfect low-maintenance and space-saving makeup palette to bring with you for an easy everyday and evening look all in one. Add some mascara, CC cream, and concealer and your set.
Eyeshadows (on top) – Starry Eyed, Bora Bora, and Bronzed.
Highlighter/Eyeshadow – Roxstar
Blush – Lovesick
If you want a bit more makeup or your skin tone is more fair, black eyeliner to tight-line on your upper water-line, and a bit of pink-lipstick and (or) gloss, to mix with either lip shape provide is great.
Lip colors– Smooch and Swept Away
P.S. This isn’t a paid promotion, I just love the Deck of Scarlet palettes. They are seriously amazing!
Here’s few favorite tutorials for April’s Deck of Scarlet Makeup Palette 🙂
1. By @Kristinaxmakeup on Instagram – Look 1 (This One Had Me Hooked!).
For the “first time in more than 130 years” there are more young adults” choosing to live with their parents among people “18 to 34” years old (Domanski). Although I’ve been out of school for over ten-years now, I do think there are excellent reasons some Millenials are remaining at home. It isn’t just to mooch off their parents or cases such as in the movie Failure to Launch. For me personally, it’s been bad health.
When I finished university, moving out right away wasn’t an option at 22. Earning $34, 000 dollars a year as a receptionist wasn’t going to pay for rent and food, despite my BA in English. Moreover, I noticed a common trend, especially among young women, who chose to stay home and develop their careers before moving to their own place.
Many friends, and acquittances tried to earn enough money to live on their own first. They stayed home to pay off debts, earn a down payment for a house or condo, or waited until they eventually found the person they wanted to marry an or move in with.
This is what I want to focus on, in this post, those Millenials who have lived with their parents through University (or moved back in) to establish themselves in life and their careers. Sadly, it takes time and money for most of us to create the house or home of our dreams so beware your dream kitchen or living area will probably take a while to create.
8 Things You Should Know or Own After Establishing Your Career Before Moving Out
A Decent Sized Bed and Bedding such as Sets of Sheets, a Duvet, and a Duvet Cover
Hopefully by the time you’re in your mid-twenties the twin-bed has been upgraded for a Queen-sized or King- sized bed, whatever fits in your bedroom. But it’s often better to buy this ahead of time as it’s a major expense you don’t have to worry about later on.
As well, having a couple sets of nice cotton sheets for your bed is a wise purchase. Ensure you’ve bought a couple of regular cotton sheets that match your duvet cover or are neutral colored; as well as, a couple of sets of flannel sheets made of cotton for places with a cold climate. Although cotton costs more than microfibre, it’s much better for your skin as cotton breathes and will not cause you to break out or sweat to death in warm or cold temperatures. Check out these Solid Flannel Sheet Sets preshrunk, made from cotton, and on sale now at Simons.com. Also, take a peek at their Cotton 600 Thread Count Sheets in White or Gray which is an awesome start for sheet set colors as they go with pretty much any duvet set for spring, summer, and early fall.
Moreover, a decent duvet (whether it be goose down feathers, microgel, or polyester filled) is a must. Although goose down feathers will keep you warmer, many people can be too allergic to the feathers. In this case, a well-made duvet filled with polyester or microgel is the way to go. Also, if you’re a person who becomes too hot when they sleep having a non-feather filled duvet is cooler.
Furthermore, you can find a mixture of goose down and microgel duvets which I find work well, despite having allergies to goose down. As well, purchasing a nice duvet set, something casual and elegant, a more ‘adult set,’ is recommended for your new bedroom. Then, you can blend sheets, decorative pillows (etc.) all into this theme or your chosen color scheme.
2. Crystal Wine Glasses, Your Own Wine and Liquor, and an Elegant Bar Cart.
Moreover, large wine glasses will do for any kind of wine white or red until you have the cash to buy smaller glasses for white wine or champagne. Having these around at home is wonderful for friends who come over when Mom and Dad are away and also for yourself on Friday nights. They’re one less thing you have to buy when moving out because they aren’t the cheapest thing to buy either.
Moreover, if you’re like me, your wine and liquor stash at home was in your bedroom so if you know you’re moving out that year, collecting a few kinds of wines and liquors is a great thing to have for both you and the guests you will have at your new place. Also right before you move out, if you can find yourself an inexpensive but elegant bar cart, or piece of furniture that can be turned into a bar cart, this is an excellent purchase.
3. Bathroom Items – A Couple Full Sets of Soft Towels Good For Yourself and Male or Female Company along with Basic Hygiene Items for Guests
Hopefully, if you’ve made some money from working a couple of years, you’ve had enough of it to invest in a couple full sets of towels thinking of your color scheme. For instance, my duvet has colors of blue (as do my sheets) so I have purchased a couple sets of towels (4 of everything) for myself and in the future, for guests. You don’t have to use them all at once but if you see the right towels in your decor colors, at a good price, they’re wonderful to pick up and stash away until you’re moving out.
If you know you’ll be leaving home soon, having other basics such as a matching shower curtain (if needed), a tooth brush holder, foaming hand soap, and spare hygienic items for guests such as body wash, toothpaste, mouth wash, shampoo, conditioner, disposable razors, and deodorant, are great items to have. They do not need to be the most expensive brand but nice smelling drugstore brands. Extra face clothes are also items that are always needed!
Furthermore, ensure you have the cleaning products you like using, if you’re moving out soon. Choose ones that are environmentally friendly and won’t cause you to be choked-up by noxious chemicals. CLR Kitchen and Bath is a good bet for the main product to use in the Kitchen and Bathroom areas. It works for dusting too.
4. Dishes for Your Kitchen & Basic Kitchen Supplies
Some KitchenSupplies you can buy as you go along, each month, adding to your kitchen stash. One of the best things to have first is a set of dishes. They can be new, old, or inexpensive but having dishes and having enough of them so that when family and friends come over you have a full set of dishes ( 8 to 10 places settings) is important.
Additionally, if you’re getting married you might wait and ask for these on your Guest Registry; however, if you’re single and making enough money you might want to choose more affordable dishes for now. For instance, you can look at these place settings made of bone China called Wedgewood Butterfly Bloom 5-Piece Place Setting found at BedBathandBeyond.ca, better for wedding presents and special occasion dishes.
If you have your grandma’s or mom’s old dishes you might consider matching these with more modern dishes. For instance, my Baba gave me her old dishes that have bright pink flowers on them and gold around the edges. Finding white dishes with a gold trim to match with these dishes might help them seem less gaudy when an entire table is set.
Also, consider going somewhere that sells quality but not too expensive glasses that will last. You can go to IKEA but every time a glass slips or falls, it will shatter. Better to buy more durable glasses to start out with and not have to buy more later. As well, I find myself, often larger glasses or better than smaller ones as they encourage you to drink more water and are better for larger portions or alcoholic drinks.
Also, although my Baba’s set includes these, serving dishes are important to have. They can be plain white and inexpensive and are significant along with cutlery (enough for company 8 to 10 people and doesn’t have to be pricey). Moreover, knives, mixing bowls, whisks, serving spoons, tea towels, oven mitts, spatulas, a kettle, a microwave, and other common kitchen items you’ll use often need to eventually be purchased.
They could include a Tassimo coffee maker, toaster oven, hand blender, mix master, and other items. You’ll probably need to buy basic items first, and add more expensive appliances to your kitchen as you live in your new home.
5. Painting Your New Place
Whether you’ve bought a new condo or home or are living in an apartment you plan to remain in a while, painting your new home can really make it feel like home. There is nothing more calming and homelike than having your rooms painted on your own, with friend’s and family’s help, or professionals, to make your place feel as if it’s yours.
If you have an apartment you’ll need to talk to the manager first before painting so they can approve the colors. Lighter colors that are more neutral in this situation are better choices as they’re easier for you or your apartment manager to paint over (if needed) when you move. Paint before you move everything in. Check out the article 10 Paint Colors That Will Never, Ever, Ever Go Out of Style on the House Beautiful Website.
Moreover, if you own your condo or home, paint your home whatever color you choose, but remember that once you paint the walls, it’s harder to paint them a second time when you have to move out all the furniture again or cover it up so it doesn’t get paint on it. Consider a color scheme that you will not become bored with. Feature walls (painting one wall a vibrant color or say covering it in a nice wall paper) is a good idea as you only have to change one wall later and not the entire room or space.
As well, many people become sick of walls that are too bright quickly, especially in colors such as red or bright green. Keeping your paint color neutral or light, allows you to play with your home decor in other ways — with interesting artwork, dark or colored furniture, and decor items that are more unique and bright. Remember to buy good paint. Some of the best I’ve used is the Behr Paint from Home Depot that comes with a built in primer. Benjamin Moore is also a wonderful brand but more expensive.
Ensure you buy enough paint to give the walls two coats if needed, or to go over spots that get scraped off later accidentally. Also ensure if you paint different rooms diverse colors, the colors flow into each other and do not create choppiness in your home. Warmer colors will also make a room bigger while cooler colors tend to make rooms smaller. Also painting the ceiling a dark color is not recommended as it causes the ceiling to ‘come down’ and make a room significantly smaller.
6. Displaying Art Work and Photographs
Additionally, for those of you who read my last interior design piece HERE, you’ll know I’m a big fan of purchasing art you like that is also more unique. I enjoy buying prints off Etsy.com because far fewer people will have these prints and because you’re supporting local and home businesses. Here’s an example of OldStyleDesign’s Alice and Wonderland Themed Prints and Frames.
As well, LauraRowStudio’s Hollywood Icon Prints are made from paintings of actresses such as Marilyn Monroe and Audrey Hepburn. Additionall, events such as Art Walks, craft shows, MakeIt.ca ” The Hand Made Revolution,” and other craft and design shows are fantastic for finding authentic art.
Moreover, if you’re a decent artist yourself it’s also more inexpensive to buy canvases, brushes, and nice paint to paint more impressionistic or modern pieces of artwork such as flowers, shapes, or picture’s you’ve seen but can easily mimic in your own artistic style. Also on Etsy.com I found some paintings of wonderful abstract art by MichelleDinelleArt on canvas. Below is an example of one of her works in a purple color scheme.
As well, consider that when buying prints and works from local artists, you do not have to spend a great deal of money having them framed. Often, you can find beautiful frames yourself at the various home decor and craft stores to create a photo wall with various kinds of frames. In Canada, you can look at HomeSense in store or Winners in store to find various frames along with your local craft store. Another wonderful place to check out would be Ikea.com as they carry many kinds of frames instore and online.
Also, you want to think about what family pictures you want to show off and how you would like to frame those photos.
Since we are such a technologically based society and we’re always taking photos on our iPhones of our latest get-togethers, you can keep in mind an awesome concept for a picture frame below. It’s an intuitive frame I enjoy myself!
The first thing I loved about this frame was that it downloads your favorite and ‘best’ photos from your iPhone and Ipad. The pictures in your frame alter as you take new photos everyday. Moreover, what I adore about this frame is its unique technology that ‘curates’ your photos, meaning that none of your flawed or embarrassing photos will appear on the frame’s screen in your new home.
In addition, I adore the frames sleek elegant design found in three colors including Ivory with a Rosegold trim, Charcoal with a Black trim, and Crystal Blue with a Silver trim. The first color combination is my favorite! As well, the frame uses ‘smart technology’ so that along with photos from your Iphone, the best pictures taken by your friends and family, on their Apple devices, will appear on the screen of your frame. The current frame I have is about 10 inches high and almost 12 inches wide, but I’m hoping bigger frames become available.
Moreover this exquisite and modern frame, from Auraframes, is designed to be a classic piece of home decor to exhibit the wonderful times you’ve had with friends and family, as well as, the special moments that have, recently, occurred in your life. More information about the tech aspects of the frame are available on the products site. You can also watch the video about Auraframes and/or purchase a frame right here.
7. Changing Lighting and Hardware
Some of the most worthwhile changes you can make to modernize your condo or new home are to change your lighting and hardware before or while you’re moving in. You can change lights in the bedrooms, kitchen, and bathroom; as well as, faucets in the bathroom and kitchen.
7. Repurposing Old Furniture and Buying New Hooks and Handles
Another great thing to do when first moving out is to find old furniture relatives don’t want and repurpose it. Paint it and replace it with new handles that give the piece a whole new look. Changing hardware on old furniture passed onto you or that you’ve found, is a wonderful way to reuse it and change its design along with new handles on drawers and closet hooks throughout your new place. You can also find interesting hooks along with new handles for the kitchen and bathroom as well.
Painting with good wall paint works on furniture but you might want to consider the finish of the paint, whether you want the paint finish to be shinier or more eggshell and easier to clean. You can rub away some of the paint after it dries to give your repurposed or refinished furniture more of an antique and worn look. Remember to stay within your chosen color scheme and use colors of paint that are neutral or match this scheme when reprinting wood furniture. Also, sand your furniture down before painting it so the paint sticks.
Additionally, you can use these beautiful delicate feminine handles for repurposed or refinished furniture called Entomology Knobs here with different knobs for different finishes of gold, silver, and bronze. Also, these Galaxy Knobs are more angular and geometric but still interesting and not so girly. Moreover, these Gardening Indoors Knobs are great to add color to a more neutral furniture piece.
For interesting and beautiful hooks you might consider these Pronoun Hooks or you might consider simpler hooks in either silver, bronze, or gold in these Harvey Hooks or consider this Fretwork Hookrack as a sturdier piece near the door, in your bedroom to hang clothes, or in the bathroom to hang towels. These Glass Etoile Hooks are both pretty but sturdy as well.
There is also a plethora of handles available for making armoires, dressers, kitchen, and bathroom cabinets more interesting such as the Hammered Serina Handles in gold, silver, or bronze. As well, the Tangier Ceramic Handles in blush or turquoise are superb. Also lovely clear handles with silver called Glass Bubble Handles are pretty but less girly handles to choose. Especially, at Anthropologie.com there is such a variety of these hardware items to pick from in all kinds of fabulous designs and metal finishes.
8. Ensure Your Furniture Fits Into Your New Space: Measure 3 Times to Make Sure it Fits
When you move into your new place, you should make sure that any furniture that’s been passed down, found at garage sales, flea markets, or other places will fit in the rooms you want to put the furniture in. If you think it’s going to be too big, better to wait and not purchase the piece than to refinish or repurpose it and not be able to get it through the door or into a room.
Measure where you want certain pieces of furniture to go 3 times to get the correct measurements, jot the measurements on your phone and carry a tape measure with you, wherever you go, to ensure you don’t purchase the largest furniture in the store when your condo is a mere 800 square feet.
As well, when you measure for curtains measure 3 times as well to make sure you have them sewn the right length and width or to ensure you buy the right length of curtains and panels and only buy decorative items you love 100 percent and pieces that represent you, just as much as your artwork or photography does. A wonderful place to purchase fabric for curtains and have them made is Chintz.com. You can choose from an array of fabrics that suit your decor colors.
Throws, candles, cushions for couches and bedrooms, pillow cases for cushions (and the insides), can all easily be found online and in stores, or on places such as Etsy.com.
If you plan to replace these items often don’t throw away your money on items that have little meaning to you or that you don’t like but buy because they are cheap. Wait to buy items that you love unless they’re inexpensive festive items such as for Christmas.
Also, remember you’re the one dusting your entire place now so don’t clutter it with too many knick-knacks, you’ll end up hating yourself later.
Remember to check out some of my past interior design posts under the category of the same name. Thanks for reading!
Welcome to another Beauty Haul. Excuse the lateness of this spring one as is almost summer, but I have some great products for the Summer Haul ready as well. For now, enjoy the products I have tried and am still using from the Spring season.
It has truthfully been a while since I have purchased MAC cosmetics, since my last post on them years ago, trying their foundations that didn’t seem to work for me. Nevertheless, I have always loved their eyeshadows and blushes and found MAC’s pigmentation to be excellent in all their makeup products. Since mid-winter I have been looking for a bubble gum pink shade but with cool undertones, not warm ones and it has been difficult if not impossible to find a blush in this shade that wasn’t too expensive, or so inexpensive the pigment and quality wasn’t nice. Now that it is summer, I do see shades similar to MAC one I purchased available in several brands but the MAC powder blush is wonderful, it feels nice, and I love the satin finish. MAC has a huge variety of shades to choose from and their products are actually on the more inexpensive side of more expensive makeups. I ordered off the Canadian MAC cosmetics site for this blush and adore the color. It gives me healthy flush and glow that isn’t too intense. I have had no skin issues with the new blush and would buy more MAC blushes in the future. There are 43 shades in this range of MAC Powder blush for you to choose from so, enjoy! Five stars out of five for this product
To be truthful, I have been searching for a lipstick in this Light Pink shade, much longer than I have
been searching for the blush (written about above). I must have been searching practically a year because I found a similar shade in InStyle magazine and had to have it, I see other brands besides MAC, now carrying this shade or colors near this shade in Sephora and other makeup stores. Beyond the light pink color, I enjoy that this was a fatter lip pencil from MAC that I can line my lips with and then fill them in with this pencil, all using one pencil not an additional lipliner. The MAC fat lip pencil feels smooth and lovely on my lips and even though I do have to apply a few coats, I love the color. A long with the price point, this was a steal! Sadly, I cannot seem to find it online on MAC cosmetics in Canada anymore but it might be a product still available in the U.S. or in store. Before applying the product I make sure to apply a thin gloss or lip balm before to moisturize my lips because this product does not moisturize one’s lips or go on well on dry lips. I also enjoy making my lips a bit shinier instead of having the matte finish of the fat lip pencil. The pencil did come in several other colors, not a huge amount, but eight or ten. I love how well the blush and the lip pencil match. The lip light pink pencil is slighter lighter but it has the same cool undertones as the MAC powder blush so it works well for me. I’d give it four stars out of five.
3. Bourjois Paris: Little Round Pot Eyeshadow in Generose (Shimmery nude – Intense Color – Longwear 12 hours) -www.beautyboutique.ca- $17.00 CAN
A product I always run out of and always use is an eyeshadow that is nude or the color of your own skin tone. This can be put over primer on your eyelids and creates a great base to blend other eyeshadow colors into. Because you have chosen a nude or skin color shade, any color of eyeshadow will blend with this color. I used to buy the nude color in a matte eyeshadow but recently found after using a similar color from NARS’s eyeshadow line with a sheen, that I enjoyed this sheen and I found the perfect one from Bourjois Paris in Genrose for only $17.00 as opposed to almost $40.00 for the NARS eyeshadow. If I only wanted to wear Generose, with my contour shade in my crease, the eyeshadow appeared wonderful, especially gleaming in the light; however, if a person wished to apply a more intense eyeshadow look overtop, this nude eyeshadow is great because it provides a sheen of light and sparkle underneath other eyeshadows, some that were even matte. The sheen is by no means overpowering, it only adds ‘a little something’ extra your usual eyeshadow look. I loved the feel of Generose by Bourjois, it was smooth and I was pleased it lasted 12 hours as advertised. I completely recommend this product, the quality, pigment, sheen, and price point are excellent. My only complaint is that the eyeshadow did not last long. I have had other eyeshadows last for three months or more. This one barely lasted a month and a half, so four out of five stars.
4. Clarins Eyebrow Pencil (Soft Blonde with Spooley) -www.beautyboutique.ca – $27.00 CAN
The hunt for the perfecteyebrow pencil continues. Since my old BENEFIT pencil no
longer exists in the same form. I have been trying various brands of eye pencils that are slightly harder as they last longer and have better pigment. For some reason, there needs to be a perfect balance in the hardness and softness of a pencil. As well, I was using points on Beauty Boutique online and this appeared to be one of the best eyebrow pencils in terms of quality and shade. I have tried some Clarin’s products but not many and was pleasantly surprised this pencil lasted three months. Even when I had sharpened it a lot and though it was becoming too short it still lasted another month after shaping and filling in my brows most days. I recommend BENEFIT’s volumizing gel to go over the top of your brows once they are filled in as this makes your eyebrows appear fuller. My only complaints with this pencil are that it was too hard for a brow pencil and the color available for blonds was too warm for my skin tone. The volumizing eyebrow gel helped to make the color ashier but when I look back in pictures where I am using this color, I can see it isn’t the right color for me. Overall a good brow pencil with three and a half stars out of five.
I received this excellent highlighter sample in my Luxebox for winter. I wasn’t expecting much but once I tried the product I loved it. Not only is it a natural and vegan product but it provides a wonderful sheen or highlight to areas of your face in a subtle way. Often I find cream products can make my skin break out after everyday use but not so with this cream highlighter. The highlighter comes out of a tube as a liquid and is a light bronzy color. It appears as if t might be too dark for some skin tones or too light for others but since using it, I think it could be used by anyone as the sheen in the product has an effect, not the color of the highlighter itself. I use it for everyday makeup when I’m doing usual activities. I put it on my brow bone, the corner of my eye, on my cheekbones, and on the bridge and tip of my nose. The subtle sheen is perfect and a little product, a dime sized amount, goes a long way and brings light to the high points of your face. A wonderful product and it’s always a good thing when products you didn’t think will be a good product, turn out to be awesome. Five out of five stars for this highlighter.
6. e.l.f. Rose Gold Eyeshadow Palette (matte finish & nude/brown colors) -www.elfcosmetics.com -$10.00 U.S.
I am a Pinterest pinner and I often pin beauty ideas and products on Pinterest. You can find me
@mandibelle16 on Pinterest. I often see product charts comparing low-end and high-end beauty products on Pinterest. I see e.l.f. makeup which is Target’s brand of makeup, compared to more expensive makeup such as NARS and Urban Decay. I decided to test this and purchased less than $30.00 worth of e.l.f. products online as it is actually even cheaper to buy e.l.f online than at Walmart in Canada. Out of the four of five items, I purchased, this eyeshadow palette was my best purchase, one that I use a few times a week. I find with e.l.f eyeshadow, as long as a person uses a good primer underneath on your eyelids, the eyeshadow is fantastic and, supposedly, mineral based. Plus, most eyeshadow palette’s of this same price point are not nearly as good in pigment or quality. Instead of buying an Urban Decay palette with similar shades, I bought this e.l.f one for $10.00 U.S or about $12.50 CAN and either way its a fantastic deal. The colors are great and look good on everyone and the basic’s palette as more colors than in the basic Urban Decay palette. I love the skin tone colors as there are three of them and they are light enough to look good on practically every skin tone. The addition of gray shades at the end of the palette is something I liked as well. With e.l.f. eyeshadow palettes, I have found this one lasted over six months. Check-out e.l.f cosmetics online for other great eyeshadow palettes, just remember to wear a good primer underneath. The shadows go on well, smooth, and has good pigment. My only complaint is there is a more fallout from this kit as opposed to more expensive palettes, but saving nearly $30.00 makes up for this complaint. Five out of Five stars
My second best e.l.f cosmetics purchase was this baked highlighter in the color Pink Diamonds. E.l.f has a few different shades you can choose from in these highlighters such as a couple of them that are more bronzy and one that is white and sparkly. I wanted the white one too but they were out of stock so I chose this shade. You cannot lose for $4.00 U.S. I love the shade it’s light pink so is also a more natural appearing highlighter for every day. It can even be used as an eyeshadow and stands up well as a longer-lasting eyeshadow if you wear a good primer underneath. Just a note, the e.l.f. brand eye primer is absolute junk and not even worth the $2.00 or $3.00 dollars I wasted on it. I threw it out after two weeks trying to make it work. So use your regular face primer on your eyes or choose a dependable and reliable eye primer for your eyelids and area such as Urban Decay, Benefit, Anastasia, (etc). Eye primer always lasts a long time (like 6 months) and are a product worth the splurge. Back to the Baked Highlighter, it was an excellent purchase and I would like to try the other shades available in the brand. My only issue with this product (as there is always at least one) is that it isn’t long lasting. If you apply the highlighter in the morning you are going to have to reapply later in the day even if you have a face primer or long lasting foundation on. Setting spray does help keep any makeup products last longer and can be found in brands such as NYX and Urban Decay. Both brands are different price points and both work well for matte or glowing skin.
This is another product from Luxebox. I put it on my hand and promptly put it back in
my makeup sample bags as the color appeared too orange on my hand for pale skin. The foundation I use is by Urban Decay and I love it because it lasts a long time, is waterproof, covers extremely well, yet feels light. But it is still heavier feeling than a C.C. Cream or a B.B. Cream. I have never been a huge fan of B.B. Creams except for one by Bobbie Brown, but my skin does not need the extra moisturizerthese B.B. Creams provide. One day I ran out of my Urban Decay foundation as my replacement was in the mail, and I used this B.B. Cream for a few days. The color on my face was actually perfect, even in daylight. It was not orange as I thought the color would be. It was very light coverage so that even with a good concealer I wasn’t all that happy with it, but at least I was wearing something. When the weather was colder I wore it around the house and it helped when my skin was drier. It’s an okay B.B. Cream but it your skin is normal or oilier I would go with a C.C. Cream as they have more coverage and often that coverage is matte. I probably would not purchase this product as it can only be found in Australia and I was not that impressed overall. Two and a half stars out of five.
If you could choose your favorite place to get ready in the morning or when you’re going out to a party or special event, wouldn’t it be wonderful to have a vanity area? Yes, I know for many women (and some men) this seems like a dream.
I would adore haveing a dressing table area where I could have all my makeup and hair tools, have everything organized well, and have my vanity area designed exactly the way I would like it to be designed to my unique preferences.
While modern vanity tables for women and shaving tables for men developed in the seventeenth and eighteenth centuries, beauty items such as cosmetic boxes, ointment jars, and perfume jars, were found in 1910, in “inlaid cedar cosmetic box[s]” in the tombs of Ancient Egyptian Pharaoh.
Madam Pompadour of France, however, was one of the first women of the aristocracy to perform elaborategroomingrituals. The french aristocracy had boxes called ‘Neccessaires’ which held perfumes, combs, nail files, and tiny scissors. Madam Pompadour (mistress of King Louis XIV (1638 to 1715)) aided the French king in developing the ‘toilette’ or beauty regime for both men and women in the royal court.
One fantastic example of an early vanity table was used by Marie Antoinette who had a dressing table specifically made to fit makeup items, writing implements, and a mirror. The piece was commissioned as she was due to give birth to her son and the vanity served multiple purposes also being used for eating and receiving visitors.
In the twentieth century, the vanity table developed significantly in the 1920’s and 1930’s. Glamorous Hollywood films made popularskyscrapers with luxuriouspenthouses and “femme fatale [movie] heroines.”
These starlets sat elegantly at their dressing tables which were streamlined in form compared to vanity tables of the past. Many women wanted to emulate these actresses and the vanity table became an essential piece of furniture for the modern woman.
Considering my dreamvanity andhow I would design it and the area around my vanity, I realized there are many vital factors to consider. What I ended up with was a mood board of decor items I would adore in a vanity area. You can find my mood board at the beginning of this post.
There are many aspects I considered when I thought about designing a vanity area. The first being what styleof vanity (the dressing table) I wanted. There is such a variety of styles of vanities to choose from but many are actually writing desks used as vanity tables, not the actual vanities which for instance, my great-grandmother Ida owned.
I tend to love antique vanities which have been repurposed. There is something curvilinear, ornate, and luxurious about the carving and details in the design of some antique vanities. What I love about repurposing old furniture, is that much of it is made from quality hardwoods, not cheap soft wood. Much furniture today is made of wood which easily breaks or splits.
Also, I would choose to paint my repurposed (or designed to appear antique) vanity my favorite color of light-blue. I would make it a feature piece of furniture in my bedroom and would paint the walls a neutral beige or gray with the same warm or cool hue found in the color blue used on the vanity. Below are three examples of vanities which caught my eye would be similar to my dream dressing table. I wouldn’t want such a roughed up quality to the paint but a nice sheen or solid color.
Another choice for my dream vanity would be to paint it with a pearlescent paint in a light sheen of bronze, gold, or silver. These dressing tables are more glamorous than the blue ones but would also retain a unique but more modern design such as the opulent vanities of the 1930’s.
A significant reason I chose antique vanities versus modern streamlined ones, has to do with my personal aesthetics and especially, drawer space. I think a vanity should have significant drawer space for you to put your makeup, hair tools, lingerie, or whatever else you would like to store in your drawers. My favorite vanities have both slimmerdrawers up top and larger deeper drawers on the sides. Storage is a major issue when choosing a vanity for yourself.
Many of the vanities pictured above have attached mirrors. I would be happy to have one of these mirrors refinished, but I also felt you could remove the mirror and hang a mirror with an interesting frame on the wall, behind your vanity. The mirror might be a little farther away from where you would sit, on the wall, but I don’t think this would be a problem if a person had enough natural and artificial lighting in their vanity area.
Another important detail to consider is the chair you sit on in front of your vanity. Whether you purchase a vanity that’s antique which you refinish yourself, or you find you like already refinished, you can replace what is often a small stool or bench, with a fancy and comfortable chair.
Especially if it’s for a special occasion, I prefer to have back support, personally, and be comfortable while I’m doing my makeup and hair. I want a cozy place to sit and a chair with a cushioned back and seat. Here are a few examples of chairs I like below, the gray one is my favorite chair; however, you can also find yourself a fancy dining chair, or some other kind of comfortable chair which matches your vanity and decor scheme.
Another aspect I would consider for a vanity area, if you have space, would be a soft but stylish chaise lounge near your dressing table. I would include this in a dream vanity area because a chaise lounge or sofa, would make you feel more at home and enjoy being in this space, even when you’re not preparing yourself for the day or an event.
A chaise lounge or a couch could be somewhere your significant other sits and talks to you while you’re getting ready, or your kids. It would also be a comfy and plush hideaway to read a book when you have the time, especially if you have a space with excellent natural light or a floor lamp nearby, as I would in my dream vanity area.
As well, it makes sense to have a plush chair of some kind here because a vanity area would be close to my closet as well, so I’d probably need something to throw clothes on as I try on several outfits or change out of my work clothes after arriving home. It’s also a place to sit on while you put on your shoes and zip up your tall boots.
I talked briefly about lighting but it’s one of the most significant aspects of all to consider, not only for aesthetics but because women require fantastic lighting when putting on makeup and doing their hair.
There is no substitute for natural light and in my dream vanity area, I would have many windows nearby. You never want to walk outside and see you’ve put on your makeup too thick for daytime or used the wrong color of foundation for the season so your foundation ends up appearing orange in the daylight.
In addition, having a chandelier or some kind of pendant light above your dressing table makes it the area appear more opulent as well as making it easier for a woman to see what she is doing at her vanity. A small chandelier, for me, makes the area all the more appealing. It aids in creating a space where would enjoy spending more time and I would probably be spending alot of time there, so I want a beautiful light fixture.
I had trouble choosing between three different light fixtures. On the Restoration Hardware website, I found this lovely light made of “tiers of translucent white capizshells” and I love the movement created when light shimmers through these iridescent shells.
Another especially favorite pendant light of mine is the flower pendant light from Arhaus. This light is gorgeous, unique, and sculptural. I think the “Italian glass” crystals hanging down would be perfect for a vanity area. This light fixture is superbly classy with this flower having “dark silver clay finish;” the artist in me adores it.
Lastly, I was drawn to another indoor/outdoor chandelier made from recycled glass andwrought iron from Pottery Barn. The glass circles made me think of bubbles and/or a pair of pretty dangling, bronze and glass earrings. I think for me interior design and fashion often overlap.
A third issue to consider with lighting is actual lighting where you sit at your vanity, on top your table. Here is the place where you or I would apply our makeup or remove it, perhaps along with our jewelry. I’m not a fan of those big bulbs that go around vanity mirrors, to me they’re a bit tacky (my opinion).
I think I would browse for some trendy table lamps which went with my decor scheme and weren’t too large. My thoughts are that they would appear classier and provide morenatural lighting as you can put light bulbs in lamps with more of a warm glow. One lamp might be enough, or you might prefer two, depending on how much space you have. There are a couple of different ones I liked and you can see them below. They’re both from Arhaus, here and here.
One final issue to consider with lighting and mirrors, is a having a magnifying mirror. Yep, the kind where you feel scared when you can see every mark or wrinkle on our face. While I hate that aspect of these mirrors, they can be helpful. They’re especially great when you’re plucking your eyebrows, getting rid of a few stray hairs, or when you’re trying to apply liquid eyeliner or any eyeliner for that matter.
I would buy one of these magnifying mirrors which lights up. It could sit on my dressing table top or be attached to the wall behind my vanity. I prefer one not on the top of the vanity since I need the space for other items.
Certain mirrors with LED lights can be moved closer or a farther away, whichever way you need. There are also various degrees of magnification. You can check out this magnifyingmirror below, from Bed, Bath, and Beyond. Lastly, ensuring my vanity area is near plugins where I could easily plug in a power bar with more plugins for curling irons, a blow dryer, and my table lamps would be a must for my vanity area.
Now to tackle one the largest issues in my vanity area, having the best kind of storage for makeup, makeup brushes, hair devices, and any other products I store in and around my dressing table. A wonderful place for these organizational items is Bed, Bath, and Beyond because they have a ton of well-priced organizational items, many of which are also attractive for certain decor schemes. Home Sense is another excellent place for this.
A third place you might consider buying storage for on top of your vanity is an office supply store, as many of their lines for storing stationary work well for storing makeup and skincare products. You can also use decorated or lovely colored trays and special storage from any home store, these products are easy enough to find.
Hanging a few decorative shelves nearby to house some of your personal items, is also an option I would consider for my vanity area, along with this neat holder I found on Pinterest, which is specifically designed to hold your blower dryer, hair straightener, and curling irons and can be found at Home Depot and mounted on the wall. For specifically made to hold makeup organizers on top of your vanity, Amazon is an excellent place to search for these holders at a great price.
For makeup brushes my favorite storage solution is to find a pretty container, it could be a pencil holder a candle holder (whatever fits your brushes) or a couple of each, and fill them half-full with little rocks/beads or a similar vase filler. Stand your brush handles in these containers along with your mascara and eyeliners. Your brushes and makeup products will stay upright and it works superbly well. I would use the same method on my dream vanity table; however, any pretty container which stores your brushes upright along with eyeliners and mascara, works well as long as they suit your design scheme.
For makeup, you can also find some beautiful trays to put your makeup and skincare products on. Sometimes even trays with divided off sections, so it makes it easier to store certain items such as blush or lipstick. I prefer stylish storage for on top of your vanity, such as silver or gold trays, decorated or colored candle holders, and mirrored makeup supply/brush holders. Below are some photographs of these ideas I liked for my own vanity space.
It’s also helpful to find some see-through jars or containers to hold items such as Q-tips and cotton rounds, used for toner and taking off makeup (etc). For haircare products, a shelf that can fit hairspray, mousse, dry shampoo, and other taller hair products is useful with a shelf on top which leaves you with storage for smaller bottles of hair care products.
The last and hardest part of storage is finding containers which will fit in shallow top drawers and in deeper side drawers for a dream dressing table. Since I would like my vanity area to not look so cluttered, I would like it if most of my makeup could be organized in the top drawers at least.
It is possible to purchase makeup dividers which fit inside draws or find your own little baskets or boxes, which will fit different kinds of makeup. Makeup storage also depends on how much makeup you own and should still be keeping. Amazon is an affordable and easy place to find this type of storage.
Makeup storage also depends on if you want to store your makeup visibly on the wall or hidden (such as I do) in the drawers of your vanity. I prefer drawers, they appear so much neater than makeup storage in wall-mounted containers or on a magnetic board. I can close messy drawers if they need cleaning and if my makeup has dirty cases.
I believe in keeping a vanity top clean and clutter free as possible because it makes it easier for me to find what I need each morning before working or if I was Mom, for instance, before dealing with my children.
For me, I would only keep the makeup I use the most out and put everything else away. I would like the top to be clutter free so I have space to work and to display some of my prettier pieces of jewelry and perhaps perfume.
It would also like to personalize my vanity space with authentic artwork to my taste, which matches my decor in my vanity area. I have chosen some of my favorite watercolor paintings off of Etsy which work into the blue vanity scheme and have this Chanel, posh and classy feel about them. Also, I like how this spice wrack became the perfect place to store perfume and display bracelets.
I enjoy purchasing my artwork prints on Etsy because the prints you buy are less expensive and they are from local artists and small businesses. The prints are more unique than art you would find in most home decor stores. I would order the prints I’ve chosen off of Etsy and then visit Winners/Home Sense or the Craft store to find frames to put my art in.
I could choose to search for frames which are all the same style of frame or look for frames which are the same color. I believe what I would do is mix up frame colors and styles, have frames in black, gold, and silver, as long as they fit in with the vanity area them I’ve created and its ambiance.
For me, this would be my perfect dream vanity area; however, as you can tell, it’s difficult to choose precisely what pieces fit and what pieces don’t. Thanks for reading!
Today, is part 2 of my Luxebox, a quarterly beauty box. I received two boxes in one for Fall 2016. This part is my actual Luxebox. Unfortunately, I wasn’t able to pick a theme, but the other free Luxebox balanced out with this fact. Anyway’s enjoy!
Well, that’s it until the winter box. Thanks for stopping by!
Chad didn’t have the stomach for being in the military. This was especially apparent to them, as a man Uncle Sam knew rowed them out to a large navy vessel, dropping a grapplinghook when they were close.
Chad and his Uncle Sam boarded the the ship.
“What are we doing here, Uncle?”
“We need to to read your tattoo Chad and find out what information is on there. Why Garig wants it so bad.”
“Do you think he’d really kill me? I’m Mona’s son, wouldn’t that mean anything to Garig?” Chad asked.
Sam sighed.”Garig and Mona went out for a while. For Garig, it didn’t end well because Mona was secretly seeing Tom behind his back . . .”
Sam was interrupted by a pretty woman with red hair and glasses:”Welcome onboard, we’ve been waiting for you,” the woman said in a melodic voice.
Chad was surprised when his Uncle blushed. “Uh, Marrion. It’s good to see you. How are you?”
Marrion smiled, “I’m fine Sam, as well as can be expected after last time . ..” Sam’s eyes went wide.
She turned to Chad. “Chad, let’s go read your tattoo.”
Chad nodded, following Marrion into a lab. He lay on his stomach on a table in an examining room off to the side.
Marrion lifted up Chad’s shirt, seeming to know exactly where his cartoon seal was located.
She chuckled. “I bet you got a few bruises for this tattoo in highschool.”
“Yeah, just a few.”
“Hold still Chad,” Marrion said.
He watched her in a mirror parallel to the table, scanning his tattoo multiple times with an expensive device. Then, he felt a few sharp pokes.
Uncle Sam came into the exam room and Marrion turned to him.
“Sam, this is dangerous information in Chad’s tattoo. You can’t go back after this is revealed. There’s grave peril in this path . . . ”
In the near vicinity, Chad heard gunfire and groaned.
Mineral makeup is not a ‘new’ thing as many of us believe. “Bare Escentuals” sold it’s mineral makeup in the “1970’s,” launching a new powder foundation they claimed was more “natural” than traditional makeup. Mineral makeup began as an alternative to regular foundation. It’s popularity is due to an increase in people’s knowledge of mineral makeup and demand for makeup with as few artificial ingredients as possible. Although makeup with artificial ingredients has an upside, so does the use of mineral makeup. Mineral makeup has an absence of “filters” such as “talc, chemical dyes, binders, and chemical preservatives,” as well as having “health benefits,” for the user.
Traditional makeup it is most effective in covering up blemishes on the skin. These products provide coverage but they may prevent the skin from breathing and can “worsen redness, blemishes, and dryness of the skin.” In turn, you may need to wear more traditional makeup products due to these issues if they arise.
Natural makeup on the other hand, can give you similar or better coverage in comparison
to traditional makeup. Often mineral makeups such as foundations, have a buildable coverage. Many woman claim that mineral makeup gives them a more “natural” appearing makeup look. As if, you are not wearing any foundation at all.
Mineral makeup also has an increased shelf life because it does not encourage the growth of bacteria in the product due to how mineral makeup is made. Products aren’t contaminated as they are with the use of traditional makeup products. Aspects of daily life such as heat, rain, and tears, may cause some traditional makeup to melt off or smear. The same issue does not occur with natural makeup which is resistant to unforeseen aspects our makeup goes through on a daily basis.
When applying mineral makeup, a little goes along way. It is best to build coverage in small shear layers until you have the coverage you desire for your foundation. Always wait until your moisturizer has absorbed into your skin first, before applying mineral makeup.
Nonetheless, “Perry Romanowsksi, author of Can You Get Hooked on Lip Balm? Top Cosmetic Scientists Answer Your Questions About the Lotions, Potions and Other Beauty Products You Use Every Day,” doesn’t think mineral makeup is as great as consumers think.'”All makeup is mineral makeup,'” Romanowsksi says. “‘You’ll find the same mineral ingredients — titanium-dioxide, zinc-oxide, mica, and iron-oxides — in conventional products.'”
Mineral makeup includes ingredients such as “titanium-dioxide” and “zinc-oxide.” These are both products found in sunscreen and can protect the wearer of mineral makeup from the damaging and aging effects of the sun. Romanowsksi suggests, however, that a zinc-oxide mine does not exist, “zinc-oxide is synthesized in a lab.” Also, titanium-dioxide, may start out in a mine but it is refined in a lab undergoing an “extraction and purification process” and this Romanowsksi believes is a healthy procedure because titanium-dioxide from the mine can be “contaminated with mercury and lead.”
One of the best reasons to wear mineral makeup is because it is”non-comedogenic” meaning it is oil free and will not clog pores because it allows the skin to breathe. Although, one should note, many foundations and products that are not mineral products are also non-comedogenic.
What mineral makeup lacks, is what makes it so perfect for your skin. It doesn’t have
“artificial colours, oils, perfumes, or preservatives to clog pores and irritate skin.” A unique combination of “zinc-oxide, iron, mica, iron-oxides, and titanium-dioxides” that have “anti-inflammatory properties,” are helpful for those with problematic skin.
Mineral makeup can help stop conditions such as “acne, eczema, rosacea,” or those with skin which is “sensitive to sun” because of procedures such as “chemical peels.””‘[M]ineral makeup,’ New York dermatologist Neal Schultz, MD says, ‘ . . .is less likely to cause a reaction [for] women with sensitive skin.'” Because mineral makeup “‘doesn’t contain oil, it won’t aggravate acne-prone skin.'”
Today, mineral makeup cannot only be found as a loose powder foundation. You can find “blush, bronzer, eyeshadow, lipstick, liquid foundations,” and other makeup items “presented as mineral products.”
Oddly enough, since mineral makeup has become uber popular, many cosmetics companies have added back to their formulas “the ingredients they omitted when they first introduced mineral products. For instance, after reading the list of [twelve] ingredients in a so-called ‘mineral eye shadow’ from a drugstore” it was hard to tell the difference between the mineral eyeshadow and many other regular drugstore eyeshadows –noted Ni’Kita Wilson.
Wilson says, “it’s impossible for mineral makeup companies to create a liquid foundation with a pared-down ingredients list because microbes thrive in water.” This means many liquid mineral product “formulations . . .include some kind of preservative.” Wilson says, “[w]ithout [preservatives], in liquid foundations [etc.] contaminated products [could] lead to skin infections.”
So, if you have “sensitive skin,” you could see how a “loose mineral foundation” works
for you. Your best bet is to search “for products with the shortest ingredients list.” Even mineral products with a “longer list of ingredients,” mean that there’s a greater chance “your skin [may] react to” an ingredient in the formulation of the product.
Mineral makeup can also be a good option with people who “don’t have sensitive skin” issues. But you probably want to keep your expectations low. One mineral product such as mineral foundation isn’t going to correct all your skincare problems such as “large pores” or “uneven pigmentation.” You will still need products such as a good primer, concealer, and a “skincare regimen.”
I wanted to provide you guys with a list of some good mineral makeup brands you can take a look at, keeping in mind some of the facts I found out about mineral makeup as I researched it. Many brands only have certain products that they classify as mineral makeup. You can take a look at some of these products from Sephora and then research into the brand to see if they carry other mineral products. Hopefully this list will get you started. You can also go into your local drugstore to see if any drugstore brand makeup carries mineral products. One brand I can think of is Physician’s Formula. Thanks for reading!

13. Finish with a lipstick that gives your lips a slight pinky/peach color. If you want to go with a bolder color be my guest. Just make sure your lipstick and blush are in the same colour family.
NARS Lipstick in Metallic Peachy Rose
14. For how to do your hair like mine please see this tutorial by Kate from The Small Things Blog here and here. Her’s looks a bit nicer and has better pictures. I used a ProBaby bliss to curl my hair which is easier for me then a curling rod to use. It essentially sucks in a section of hair you have combed out. When it beeps you can let go of your hair for a softer curl or hold it longer for more bouncier curls.
I have picked up a few items makeup wise lately. I also have received a couple large samples in Luxebox or with other makeup purchases that have been excellent. So, I wanted to share those purchases/samples with you here today.
Tartlette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette (www.tartcosmetics.com) -$54.00 – I have been impressed by Tarte’s choice of palettes this holiday season. They had some great ones in summer too. I gave away a couple palettes with bronzer, highlighter, eye shadow, and blush combined, to a couple of friends this year and they were well loved Birthday and Christmas presents. When I saw this matte palette I was immediately drawn to it because it had a fair amount of light colours in the palette. The issue I find with many palettes of eye shadow is that they have too many medium and dark colors and not enough light colors. And it is important to have a good amount of light colours to choose from because those are the colours that go all over your eyelid before you put on a medium color on your lid and darker colour in your crease. You may even use more of the light colour to blend your eye shadow at the end of your eye shadow process.
So, I’m pretty happy with this eye shadow palette. Basically, each row is a different kind of eye shadow look you can achieve. Although the palette does come with instructions on how to do and everyday eye with the purple colours and a nighttime eye with some of the skin tone and brownish colors. The very darkest colours are excellent if you use those colours to line your eyes. But I don’t really do that nor have I ever. I usually go with a liquid liner in black, brown, purple, or grey and I think it is so much simpler to do your eyeliner with a makeup designed to be a liner ergonomically. So, those dark colours are useless colours in the palette for me. But I do like the first three colours in each row. I have tried all three looks out and they are superb. Plus, Tarte has such pigmented eye shadow. You have to be careful you don’t use to much especially of the darker colours.
The only thing that I would change about the palette would be to make the lighter colours larger in size. Because what always happens is you run out of the lighter colours earlier and have these medium and dark colours left because you use less of the colours due to the dark pigment. I also wouldn’t have minded maybe a colour in each row that was even lighter then what is provided, for the corner of your eye and your brow bone (instead of a colour to line your eyes). It would give your eyes that extra glimmer that is so refined. I was very happy to buy this palette at 30 % off. They are sold out on Tarte’s website right now but you might be able to find it full price at Sephora.
Tarte Cheek Stain (Skintuitive) in Energy – (www.tartecosmetics.com)
– $36.00 – For the picture of the cheek stain I could not get the picture in the colour I have which is called Energy and is a bubblegum pink. I usually do not like wet or cream blushes but I have found a couple of options that are actually nice. One of them is this Tarte cheek stain which I got a large sample from Tarte in the summer. What is neat about this Tarte Cheek Stain is it is “Skintuitive.” So, you take the lid off and put it right on your cheeks or use a blush brush and really buff and smooth the blush in so it looks natural. You cannot leave the blush how it is at first or it looks like you have neon pink streaks on your cheek. As you blend the colour in, the colour adapts to your skin colour so that you get your perfect shade of pink (or whatever colour) for your cheeks. I am not sure if all Tarte Cheek Stains do this or simply the sample and colour I have but either way the Cheek Stain is a great product, remains on your cheeks all day, and doesn’t rub off easily. The product sinks into your skin and stays put. The process of applying this blush is actually easier then powder blush to apply once you get the hang of the product. Tarte has about eight different colours you can choose from on their site and Sephora may have even more.
Two Faced La Creme Lipstick in Marshmallow Bunny – (www.twofaced.com) – $32.oo – I have been using sites for these Makeup finds other than Sephora. I love Sephora but it is Christmas time and you can often find deals on a brands home website as I did with Tarte. Two Faced is having deals every day until Christmas. Today’s deal is: FREE Flat Buki Brush with any Love Flush Blush! Code: TFBEAUTY11. In case, you wanted to check that out. What is awesome about this lipstick is it is creamy and good for keeping dry lips away. It hydrates your lips as well as acting as a lipstick. I was looking for the perfect pink lipstick and I found this shade Marshmallow Bunny. The colour is pretty opaque and longer lasting but does need to be applied every few hours. The best part about this lipstick besides the colour is it’s creaminess so your lips won’t dry out while wearing it. There are 32 different colours on the Two Faced website to choose from. I have slowly been trying out some of Two Faced Makeup and have been happy with it. I like their eye shadow sets and am particularly found of a highlighting powder they carry.
Bioderma Hydrabio Lait: Moistuirising Cleansing Milk for Sensitive
Dehydrated Skin: Cleanses and Removes Make-up, moisturisers – (www.murale.ca) – $21.95 – Bioderma skincare products come in many types for different skin. This particular Cleansing Milk which removes makeup well, is for dry skin. I don’t have dry skin but I have not found the product to be oily or anything close to it. Generally, I use wipes to remove my makeup but a couple of posts ago I told you guys about a mascara from Dior that I was using. It was so hard to take off my eyelashes and sometimes got on my skin around my eyes. Bioderma Cleansing milk is amazing and will remove any makeup on your skin or eyes. The only problem I found when removing my eye make up, with some of the cleansing milk on cotton round, was that if you swipe to hard, your contacts will pop out. First world problem! I was not expecting much from a makeup remover that acts like cold cream but I have been impressed by this product and Bioderma. Perhaps it merits looking into some of their other skincare products. They are priced well. But Murale was the only place I could find that carried the products.
Blinc Brush it on Slide it Off Eyeliner – (www.blincinc.com) – ($26.00) – I received this Blinc liquid eyeliner in a Luxebox as well. The sample is a bit tiny but the Liquid eyeliner is awesome. Blinc products are not waterproof they are “water-resistant.” When you put the eyeliner on your lash line you are putting on a water-resistant “layer” of eyeliner. Blinc says their product doesn’t “fade, smudge, run, or flake even if you cry or rub your eyes.” When you want to remove Blinc it slides off effortlessly into your hand. It is an interesting product. There are five shades of eyeliner of this type. I am wearing black and the black was intense. Even though I accidentally got some on my brow bone, it was easily removed smudging it with my fingers. I don’t know how taking it off will be tonight since today is the first day I have worn it. But I am happy with how well the product looks on my eye. The black is bright and shiny. And it was easy enough to apply, the wand is a good size. S0, look into Blinc makeup and let me know what you think.
Delectable (miracle material) Ultra Nourishing Coconut and Cream
Body Lotion (www.beautyboutique.ca) -$14.00 – I couldn’t find the exact product I was looking for, but this will give you a close idea of what I have been using. Delectable is a new brand that I received in Luxebox and it can be found at Shoppers Drug Mart across Canada and on their Beauty Boutique website. The lotion I have is for hands and it works so well! I never had dry hands after using this lotion and the Coconut smells so good! Not to mention it is not very expensive for a small tube and because it is Christmas Delectable has a bunch of sets you can get that contain different flavours of their hand and body lotions for gifts. You can also find the full-sized lotions in Shoppers. It’s a nice product I am glad I’ll be able to buy when I run out.
Soap and Glory: The Righteous Butter with Softening Shea Butter and Aloe Vera – (www.beautyboutique.ca) -$18.00 – I bought this Body Butter at Shoppers Drug Mart. I used to love buying the Body Butter at Victoria Secret and it came in so many great flavours such as ‘Love Spell.’ But the problem is Victoria Secret is not making body butter under the brand they were making it under before. So, until I can try their new body butter brand I needed something to last me. So, I tried this Soap and Glory Righteous Butter. While $18.00 is a bit pricey for a body butter which I wear everyday and put on after each shower, there is actually a good amount in the container (300 ml). I enjoy the smell, it is not too overpowering. Righteous Butter smells a little citrusy but only a bit. It works great. My legs are always silky smooth after using Righteous Butter. I also think since, Victoria Secret’s new body butter is $18.00, I might be using this brand if their is more butter (lotion) in the container. I am a huge fan of Soap and Glory. They have great lip, body scrubs, and creams. The only item I have not liked from them have been cleansing clothes, which were not damp enough and not substantial enough to remove makeup well. But the body butter I am extremely satisfied with using.
Hope you enjoyed my mishmash of products. I would like to try sharing some of the good products I receive in Luxebox a bit more. Sometimes I forget about them and the products are the same products that are available online, in your local drugstore, Sephora or Ulta.
