Poem: Quatrains: “What Never Heals”

“I know that’s what people say– you’ll get over it. I’d say it, too. But I know it’s not true. Oh, you’ll be happy again, never fear. But you won’t forget. Every time you fall in love it will be because something in the man reminds you of him.”

― Betty Smith, A Tree Grows in Brooklyn

******

One day you promised me the pain,

Would eventually heal, I’d be —

Free from photographs and the shame.

While I am here, tears streaming.

Out of my mind, of my head,

Did you burn memories seething?

They never left my soul, they’re undead,

While I’m here, tears streaming.

You and her, it’s the cut deepest,

Never heals, it bleeds; you beaming

A baby’s breath; life makes me weak.

While I’m here, tears streaming.

At times, I’m over you completely,

Then, an image leaves me grieving.

Heart of the girl, a heart too sweet.

While I’m here, tears streaming.

Conversation wouldn’t aid, I —

Learn to sew up all broken seams.

Especially in sleep, where I cry,

While I’m here, tears streaming.

A few hours, a few days and —

I’ll be fine again —breathing.

Didn’t have much, nothing so grand.

While I’m here, tears streaming.

Let go, let me free, unburden me,

Stop snipping my wings, inhaling

The past’s ashes, it chokes me,

I was here, tears dried; now I’m free.

(Her View)

Tonight’s the night he’s meeting me here later

Passions ignited, we’ve fires, need sating

All the desires of our time together, at last met

I’ll be shaking, moaning, chasing the stars

Caught in the moment, we’ll shatter as glass

Wrapped in your strong arms, I’ll have a blast.

Waiting for tonight, excitement beaming

When you and I are lovers holding,  fast.

——

Preening, applying makeup and shaking

Preparing for you, our first time creating.

Ensuring our night’s perfect; it’ll end complete.

Skin grazingcaressing, nothing sub-par

Lovers busy enjoying repast

Perfect lingerie, beneath a gown fast

Becoming a favourite; it’s perfect and tight

Rip it off, no need to be so classy

——

Waiting for tonight, our love embracing,

Perfection between us, this night for our sake.

I’ve planned it exactly, we’ll not overstep

Each moments vital, at the finale beseech.

Give into our lust, marvel in love far —

Better than any you’ve ever had; here we’ll last,

Until mornings stunning rays of light

I wait for him, he’s mine; trembling, my hands clasp.

——

(His View)

Tonight it came, the nightmare couldn’t wait

She’s obssessed, unstable, any day she’ll break.

Better to stop, was never invested, not set

On staying with her; she’s a whale beached.

Though thin like a beanpole, not nice at all

Loathsome personality, running fast —

Driving passed; her obsession frightening

I was ‘nice’ once or twice, now there’s an impasse.

——

Need freedom, her annoying voice I hate,

Can life be normal again? Not Hell made?

Can I touch the one I love, and not regret

Bringing him into drama; twice I cheated,

Boyfriend enraged; a dumb girl caused my fall.

Told her, “I like men most;” but left aghast —

She doesn’t care, spoiled girl; not smart, no insight,

Traps into engagement; I’ll always pass

Poem: La’ Tuine – “Crazy Diamond, Everglow” #introtopoetry #amwriting #poetry #coldplay

Today’s Poetry 101 is about a journey and to use a simile.

——-

The La’Tuin, a poetic form created by Laura Lamarca, consists of 4-line stanzas with an ‘abca, abca’ rhyme scheme that is consistent throughout each stanza. Stanzas 2, 3 etc. must all follow the same rhyme sounds as the first stanza. With the first stanza being repeated again at the end of the piece. It contains a minimum of 4 stanzas, with no maximum length limit.

A strict syllable count of 9/8/9/8 is required per stanza.

In-Depth Explanation of rhyme:

Lines 1, 4, 5, 8, 9, 12, 13, 16 etc., all rhyme – this is the ‘A’ rhyme.

Lines 2, 6, 10, 14 etc, all rhyme – this is the ‘B’ rhyme.

Lines 3, 7, 11, 15 etc, all rhyme – this is the ‘C’ rhyme.

The La’Tuin is named after A’Tuin, a giant turtle from the Diskworld series. A turtle is a symbol of Mother Earth. La is Laura Lamarca’s signature.

——

Please see Shadow Poetry for more information. I didn’t follow this form exactly, choosing to almost repeat my whole A line in each stanza as well as repeat the last two words in line D. The line “Shine Bright You Crazy Diamond,” loosely comes from a Pinterest quotation you can find below.

——–

Shine bright you crazy diamond gleaming,

Your road has never been easy,

Glitter like the stars, alight sparkling soft.

Shine, fractured jewel, sustain everglow.

—–

Shine bright you crazy diamond beaming,

Reflective, absorb life’s hurt keenly.

Don’t give up when your facades are sought.

Life’s twisted paths, mean tears; everglow.

——

Shine bright you crazy diamond seething,

Angry, life results in disease.

World’s imperfect; life’s painful a lot.

Keep brilliant, child be an everglow.

——

Shine bright you crazy diamond dreaming,

Journey is long, worth your wounds bleeding.

Patch-up cuts, life’s rough; give your best shot

Glean knowledge, sacrifice; everglow.

——-

Shine bright you crazy diamond gleaming.

Daring, follow down roads heedless.

Experience comes when you ache distraught

Shine brilliant gem;  gold everglow

——-

The term everglow comes from a favourite Cold Play song called, “Everglow.”
