Painfully stuck in airport for hours wait,

Sitting here staring the clock ticks slowly.

Here with you life’s perfect –it doesn’t grate.

My arm falls asleep, your heavy head rolls,

Further onto my chest; I need to get up.

Legs start to tingle, I’ve sat too long so —

I gently moving your head; my ‘buttercup,’

You hate when I call you that but you make me smile.

Happiness, tranquility; I’m drugged.

Departure board reads, plane is still awhile.

Walking for coffee, some lunch, magazines.

You’re awake when I return, you beguile;

Your grin makes you quiver and I preen.

Unaware we stare, our stare held timeless.

You appreciate me (and food); your eyes gleam.

We’re both stuck here all night, it’s liveable,

We both forge a tighter bond insurmountable.

Painfully stuck in airport for hours wait.

Here with you, life’s perfect — it doesn’t grate.

Flash Fiction For Aspiring Writers: On The Run

I’m trying to blend into the people who are out on Whyte Avenue at night. I’m starving but afraid to stop. I step into a noisy pool hall blending in with a blonde guy and his buddy. We team up and win some money from teams of other Pool players.

I’m near the airport and I sigh at the far walk ahead until I find a bicycle unlocked. I ride hard and buy an early plane ticket to Vancouver. I devour breakfast first.

As I leave the Vancouver airport on the train, I see him. How did Kieran find me? I sob earnestly, as I reach my Motel room.

Kieran catches me leaving after sleeping. He holds me as I shiver at the chemistry between us. I can’t risk being his girl.

” Why are you running Audrey? Don’t you know I’ll always find you? You’re my person, “he murmurs.

“I’m afraid” I whisper ” I’m scared of having a happy life. I’m scared I’ll lose it.”

Kieran grasps my hands, ” Audrey, I  love you and will never leave you. You don’t have to run anymore.” Kieran has said the right thing. I have security.

A Little Vacation and then Some

I believe I last left you before I went and shopped for A’s Birthday present; he wanted a watch from fossil. I usually don’t spend this much on him at this point in our relationship but then I got to thinking about how in Muslim culture they don’t celebrate birthdays ever. So, A never had Birthday presents or cake growing up and since many of his friends are also Muslim he won’t get even a birthday beer from them or even a present from his mother. With this in mind and being blessed with a little more income this year I bought him a watch with a compas surrounding it, half red and half blue. He really loved it and the cinnamon buns I bought him as cake ( how can there be no cake or cupcakes at the mall?). I sang him happy birthday and later I went home happy he was so pleased with his birthday goodies.

Fast forward to the end of the next week, I am packing for Las Vegas in my little suit case. I can not condense my liquids to 100 ml so I (and my mom) eat the cost we now pay $25.00 plus tax, and check our luggage. On the way back I bring a small duffle bag of clothing carrying my purchases of clothing I made but I can bring that on board the plane.

Getting to Las Vegas took horribly long but once we landed it was easy taking a cab too Treasure Island Hotel (Ti) and I was glad the cab and check in was so quick because my stomach really hurt towards the end of the flight. Turns out I just needed something to eat and drink. It was an early flight and international so we had to arise at 6:30 am or so quite early for me who was having trouble walking straight due to my sleep medication.

Once we were in the hotel we checked everything out about the hotel and ate supper at a restaurant in Ti. I had breakfast, eggs Benedict. I was so hungry that even the fact that there was thick creamy sauce — which I abhor — all over my eggs, ham, and English muffin, didn’t stop me from digging in. I’ve never had eggs Benedict so I did not know to ask for no hollandaise sauce.

The next day we did most of our shopping at the Fashion Show mall. I have found a new sports apparel store I love by Calvin Klein. Everything was thirty to sixty percent off and I ended up buying both in blue-purple a jacket and a shirt. I went to Lululemon also, hoping to find a couple of size 12 yoga shirts and came out with one top and a pair of yoga crops, deciding I’ll buy a top later in the summer. After a trip to Banana Republic where dresses happened to be forty percent off, I collapsed in our room and rested. We had eaten lunch at Johny Rockets at the mall and were fortunate to find a CVA right beside the escalator to the mall where you could get decent priced food and snacks. Too bad they didn’t have a wine opener because I was crushed when I couldn’t drink my bottle of shiraz merlot.

Day three I spent the morning lying in the sun by the pool and relaxing. We had breakfast at Starbucks and ate lunch from CVS. I don’t recall supper but we went to an amazing show called Rock of Ages. It’s based on late seventies rock so it was really fun to see people get into it and the staff even handed out lighters that had an electric bulb on the end that lit up. We visited the Venetian earlier that day too but I don’t think we spent much time there. Just enough to find where we had to go at night and pick up our tickets.

Thursday we spent shopping at Caeser’s palace and there are lots of good stores in there but mainly I was interested in Victoria Secret. Caesers has the best one in my opinion. The afternoon I spent lounging by the pool as long as I could. If you are wondering why I spent most of my nights in that’s because I can only handle one major activity in the day and I don’t think mom would have appreciated club music or being hit on by some American guy who can’t keep his hands to himself. When I go with A that’s what I’ll have to do with him.

Friday we checked out around 11:00 am and then gambled at the slot machines. My Mom had been doing this all week when I rested and/or walking further down the strip. We had burgers at Kahunavilles outside for lunch and the pool area was full so we sat outside in front of the hotel. The hardest part was keeping it together during the time I usually rested. But we took a cab to the airport early at 4:00 pm and waited to check in and go through security. We also did last minute shopping at the Duty-free store and had supper at the airport. It was 8:00 pm Las Vegas time when we got on the plane and 12:30 am in the morning Edmonton time when we landed. I slept most of the way. My brother picked us up. It was a three hour flight.

I was so exhausted I slept through the next day and most of the next. Today I finally feel as if I am myself again. I would have extended the trip a bit more to purely rest one day then a couple more days to see another show and more of the strip again. Having three hours in a day to do something is not conducive to travelling.

Day 15 – NaPoWriMo- Address the Poem ” The Day”

Today was rather short, poem.

I woke up so early around 4:30 am;

To say goodbye to my parents going to China.

Do you know how long that is my free verse poem, a trip to China?

It’s a very long trip indeed and they have

Several long breaks inbetween quatrain.

I don’t know what you do 10 hours in an airport?

I guess read, shop a little, eat airport food.

But back to you, poem, today a hairstylist carefully cut my hair.

And it turned out divine I think.

But poem, haircuts are a little different every time.

And then I got a wax, a bit painful but not bad.

The esthetician was fast and knew what she was doing.

Then, my quatrain, I made my own salad at SunTerra for $7.09.

I had spinach, chicken, pecans, goat cheese, and cranberries in raspberry vinaigrette.

And then I ate my lunch and came home.

My shoes they hurt my feet and

I have to go back next week, couplet to end sonnet.

Comings and Goings

I am so excited right now! My guy is flying into EIA as I write. He has been gone on a long overdue trip home to Morocco and then to Paris, France and Spain. Yesterday A was trying to find a flight into Edmonton from NY so I’m psyched that in 15 minutes, approximately, he will be landing. I know it’s been a long trip for him home and that he’s going to require 3 or 4 days rest but he is in the same city now and I will get to see him soon. A has been gone 2 months! That’s forever in ‘dating’ time. Almost an entire summer went by and I saw him twice. Once before my birthday and once before he left in July.

I am apprehensive about our relationship. Things were not going well before he left, and before that and we barely had time to make things right before he went away. It was good though, to have all that time to think and consider things, to figure out a direction I want to take with him. It was nice not to worry about the relationship when I was having health troubles this summer. But all in all, I’m excited to see A and can’t wait for us to be us again.

I have also extremely enjoyed the Writing 101 course I have been participating in through WordPress. I highly recommend to anyone who blogs. Any kind of education you can get to improve your work or your hobbies is beneficial and it’s exciting. I always found in school I learnt more in classes where the professor and the students participated and gave their opinions. I think that is what I find with the mini writing course. Having the input of so many peers and having the ability to read and learn through all the work of your peers is very helpful to one’s own writing. Not to mention, all the different prompts or topics and challenges we have been given have definitely stretched my comfort zone and improved my ability as a writer. I look forward to each writing challenge and I have found that writing for 20 to 30 minutes a day is not hard, even if you have to go back and make corrections through out the day for certain blog posts.

The Writing course has filled a void left by editing courses I did not sign up for in time from Simon Frazier. I did not realize I needed to sign up 2 to 3 months in advance and that you had to be signed up for all the editing courses you wanted to take all year. So at least I have a beginner’s copywriting course from April to July. I would also especially like to take my final course at the U of A for Residential design even if I miss half the classes due to health issues, in January. At least then I’ll be done that certificate and receive it in June 2015. All I need is a B.

Also excited for Brewfest — a pop up market and Beer thing next Friday and lunch with my 25-year-old baby brother Wednesday. Tomorrow I finally get into the doctors and have a bunch of paperwork I need filled out there and in November, time to Christmas Shop. I get mine done ahead of time and I think this year maybe a gift card year, we’ll have to see.

Talk to you in the future!
